This review was originally published on Grimdark Magazine

A Claiming of Souls is finally here, and it’s absolutely nothing short of suri-eal what R.A. Sandpiper accomplishes in this epic and soul-stirring conclusion to the Amefyre trilogy. Filled with equal parts action and emotion, love and loss, and heart and hurt, this is truly everything you could wish for from a grimdark romantic fantasy.

After the intensely bittersweet ending of A Promise of Blood, I was beyond excited (okay, and quite nervous) to dive into the grand finale to Kol and Suri’s story. In some ways, they are stronger than ever, yet at the same time things have never looked so dire for our precious broken babes; a soul has been taken, a prophecy remains unfulfilled, and a war comes ever closer to destroying all they know and love as threats both human and divine grow more deadly dangerous with each passing second. In other words, the stakes are high, the emotions run even higher, and absolutely zero punches are pulled.

Honestly, it almost feels unreal how far we’ve come with these characters since the start of A Pocket of Lies. I already loved Suri’s well-earned growth over the course of book 2, but I think she really gets her time to shine in A Claiming of Souls. Yes, she is still so realistically flawed and more scarred than ever on both a physical and an emotional level, but I found it beautiful to see how she has gone from being a selfish and stupidly impulsive thief to an absolutely badass reluctant hero who will stop at nothing to protect the people she loves; people who she never, ever could have imagined loving in the first place.

Seriously, I think the unexpected development of all the complex interpersonal relationships that lie at the heart of this story was just as surprising to me as it was to Suri herself, and I loved how both the multi-book slow-burn enemies to lovers romance and the heartfelt found family vibes came to their peak in A Claiming of Souls. I mean, it’s so common for me to lose interest in the relationship(s) over the course of a fantasy romance series, but I loved how Sandpiper avoided that here by continuing to explore new hidden depths to the characters and keeping a believable level of tension without creating unnecessary, melodramatic conflict.

Be it my dark, broody, and fiercely protective marshmallow of a Dark Lord Kol (please don’t tell Suri I was probably swooning even harder over him than she was, I don’t want her to hunt me down), the suave and sarcastic heartthrob Nadrian (a.k.a the true MVP of this story), or my fearsome sapphic ladies Scilla and Viantha (where do I sign up for their spin-off series?!); this entire ragtag crew of broken souls just has my heart, and I loved revelling in all their complicated but heartfelt feelings for each other. Also, this cast of characters is so refreshingly and casually diverse, and I really appreciated the authentic exploration and representation of physical disability, queerness, and mental health struggles.

There’s so much trauma that all these characters have endured and continue to endure, and I found it so powerful to see how they learned to cope, hold onto hope, and find moments of light in the darkness. Especially Suri’s inner conflict due to the loss of her soul in A Claiming of Souls felt like a metaphor for living with depression to me, which made it all the more hard-hitting for me to see how her struggles impacted both herself and the people around her.

All that said, as deeply impressed as I am with how well Sandpiper was able to balance and interweave all the many different aspects of this story, I have to admit that I was personally always much more invested in the inner/interpersonal conflicts rather than the external conflicts. To me, the diabolical, scheming Queen Lera felt a bit like an underdeveloped villain, and all the deep lore/magic dives with Sotoledi and Diophage were fascinating but maybe a bit overly ambitious at times. Moreover, the way that the entire high stakes final act unfolded felt a bit messy and suspiciously convenient to me, with a few sudden unbelievable level-ups in power and some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff that almost made my last lone brain cell wither and die.

Still, I think A Claiming of Souls overall more than sticks the landing, and I loved how Sandpiper gave more than enough closure to feel utterly satisfied while also leaving some threads dangling for potential spin-offs in this world. I absolutely devoured this trilogy, and I will absolutely be first in line for whatever comes next, be that in this world or something completely new; R.A. Sandpiper is absolutely going to be an author to watch, I’m calling it now.

This story is truly so much more than just another popcorn read of a Fae fantasy romance; it’s a refreshing, bold and deeply layered story of survival, sacrifice, growth, healing, hope, redemption, and love in all its devastating beauty. So whether you normally like your fantasy dark, brutal and action-packed or intimate, sexy and emotional, I think the Amefyre trilogy is an absolute must-read that might just satisfy reading cravings you never even knew you had.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. A Claiming of Souls is scheduled for release on May 10th, 2025.

“I am tired. I am angry.” Sotoledi said.
“Perhaps that’s the final lesson. It is all irrelevant. We all become what the world has made us in the end.”
R. A. Sandpiper, A Claiming of Souls

I very kindly received an ARC of this book!

My first ARC and it couldn’t have been a better book to start with! I’m sad this is the last book in the trilogy, as I’d gladly read more books with Suri and Kol. But this book did absolutely not disappoint. Following on from APOL, Suri is soulless. And must navigate her next steps in a Kingdom on the brink of war, which also believes Kol is dead. It’s fast-paced, thrilling, and absolutely full of plot twists. I received my copy on Saturday and ended up reading until the small hours of Sunday morning, as I just couldn’t put it down!

This review will contain spoilers from this point onward, you have been warned.

I'm so sad this trilogy has come to an end, but I'm excited to see what R. A. Sandpiper writes next!

I received an ARC copy of this book. An incredible end to a fantastic story. I'm genuinely sad that it's over and I couldn't recommend it more. I loved the characters, the plot, the world. I would give the series as a whole 5 stars, and I will be reading anything this author writes in the future.

cried on the train. i honestly can't recommend this series enough, im entranced in this world and its characters. Nadrian has me in a chokehold i fear, i think she even made me care for Rasel and the witch at some point?? Of course, everyone loves a morally grey FMC, and Suri is truly living up to that- nevermind the Lord of Death that every romantasy lover WILL fall in love with.
Can't wait for the next series, please keep writing❣️

I was kindly gifted an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

I tore through the first two books and novella in a week - this series is very bingeable and easy to read. I thought this book was a great ending to the trilogy. I loved Suri's journey and growth throughout this book and the series, she's a very well written FMC. Her journey from morally grey and selfish to a reluctant hero was interesting and very nuanced. Her struggles in the first half of the book made her so relatable and I loved how that was written.

I really enjoyed the world-building in this series and in this book in particular, I loved the diary entries at the start of each chapter and in the insight they gave us into the world.

I loved the romance aspect of this series and book. The slow burn and yearning was so well done that I was giggling and kicking my feet while reading.

Overall, this is a very strong fantasy trilogy that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I'm so interested to see what this author does next!

A Pocket of Lies was the first enemies to lovers book I had read for a while that was genuinely enemies to lovers... and the grand finale did not disappoint.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book to review prior to it's release date in May 2025 and inhaled it in a few days!

I always worry that a battle scene in a series like this will be anti-climatic because we've worked towards it since book one but it did not disappoint!

If you love:
- Found family
- Enemies to lovers
- Badass FMC
- A love interest who seems mean but lowkey is a marshmellow

....... you will love this series.

This is forever going to be one of my favourite enemies to lovers series to recommend and I cannot believe I have finally gotten to the end of Suri's journey - I am looking forward to see what amazing world the author creates next!

ARC REVIEW- I am incredibly grateful to have received an Arc copy of A Claiming of Souls. A huge, HUGE thank you to the author as I know how much time and effort has gone into this trilogy. My reviews are 100% my own honest opinion. :)

As I said in the review for book one, R. A. Sandpiper is a name to remember! What a heartwarming end to this beautiful trilogy. I want to scream about this book and the beautiful world it encompasses- if you’re looking to start reading darker fantasy but not sure if it will be for you, this book is a perfect entry as it showcases the darker, twisted side of fantasy without being too heavy and solemn for the reader. As someone who is still fairly new to fantasy, I didn’t expect to love this series as it has a very different plot structure to what I’d usually read. We all love enemies to lovers, but nobody has done it quite like Sandpiper yet! I read all three books in quick succession because I simply could not put them down. It is a privilege to read such captivating writing and I will not stop recommending this series to others.

A Claiming of Souls swiftly became my favourite book in the trilogy. We were introduced to the deeper secrets held by those in power, and how Suri’s own actions had the capability to change the fates of her dearest friends and new found family, whilst putting everything on the line to defend the place she now calls home. I loved the way this book continues to highlight the corruption of the world of the fae, and how someone’s power will inevitably force their true motives into the light. In Suri’s instance, she has been transformed from the filthy street girl, to the powerful and mysterious Mistress of Coin simply because of her new found family and harnessed abilities. Had she never found Kol and his lands, she would have remained that poor girl in the Tangle, fighting for her life, and this new power only intensifies her inner struggles- deciding on dealing the revenge card, or doing what she knows is right for her people.

The writing in this book is exceptional. Sandpiper has a talent for creating tension and suspense throughout the book, without falling into the trap of predictability. Especially towards the end, this book was really a nail biter; to watch Suri figure out how to use her new found abilities during the midst of war, destruction and loss brings an immense sense of pride to the reader for the FMC, who has always been the morally grey one. The confliction of Suri’s character from book one to book three is thrilling to read, and only emphasises Sandpiper’s ability to manipulate the image of the characters, and has you question your own morals. If you were Suri, would you really bother going to such great lengths after all the torment and turmoil you’d experienced?

The romance in this book is much more advanced than the last two, really highlighting the fact that this trilogy is the SLOWEST of slow burns - and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love how Suri and Kol find comfort in knowing they both harness these strange and compelling thoughts, and they both are extremely dangerous in their own ways- but for one another they are home, safety and true comfort like no other. A beautiful story of enemies to lovers, one that will stay with me for a very long time.

This book as a whole will remain with me for a very long time, and I cannot wait to see what the author does next. I fell in love with all of the characters, even the ones I thought I should have hated. The side characters have brilliant personalities and add elements of humour and light into a dark world, empowering Suri when she needs it most, as well as reining her in when she needs humbling. Honestly- a perfect book in my opinion. ❤️

I was kindly gifted this ARC by the author in return for my review.

After binge reading the first two books, I was so excited to get to read the next installment of the Amefyre series. I was not dissapointed. A Claiming of Souls gave me everything I needed. High stakes, character arcs and plenty of action. It moved, as the previous books did, with pace and the pages flew by. I couldn't predict where the story was going to go (this was a recurrent theme throughout the trilogy) and couldn't have predicted anything that happened.

I love that Suri isn't the standard self-sacrificing fmc that we usually see in romantasy. I love that she is messy, that she is selfish at times and we see her grow and find her place through the story. Definitely a favourite fmc - I plan to reread the series again in the future.

I cannot wait to see what R.A.Sandpipier writes next - she is an author to watch.

ARC REVIEW!

Where do I even begin?

This series has had me in a chokehold since the first book. I’ve been waiting patiently for book 3 and now it’s over. It’s my own fault of course. I just couldn’t put it down. I didn’t want it to end, but I also didn’t want to stop reading!

If you’re here for Suri’s journey, you won’t be disappointed. She finally finds herself a place she can truly call home. A place she will fight for, a family she would do anything for. A family that would also do anything for her. Each member of that family goes on their own journey in this book, and it’s beautiful to watch unfold. From Scilla and Viantha’s story, to my boy Nads! They all go through a journey of personal growth in this book. Don’t worry, I’m not leaving Kol out. How could I? The slow burn enemies to lovers is what brought us here in the first place. The rollercoaster ride of emotions he goes through in this book, not knowing if Suri’s feelings for him are real (soulless Suri) is enough to break your heart and make you fall for him all over again!

The stakes are high in book 3. Prepare yourselves, the rollercoaster ride of emotions you’re about to go on are not for the faint of heart! The storytelling and world building are top notch!

It’s safe to say the Amefyre Series is now one of my favourite series ever. I’m so sad that it’s over. But, I’m also so happy I got the chance to read this story.

The first two books were so gut wrenching and I was so emotionally invested and swayed by them but it all died down in this book and I’m so disappointed with how everything was just so off. The plot was fine but not satisfactory, and relationships weren’t amended the right way either. Kol was more distant in their relationship with his soul restored than when he was soulless lmao. Like what. And Suri just goes through all of that yet gets snarky remarks from Viantha because of spending a few hours in the sewers? BIG DEAL. Then we have Scilla telling her she’s the most selfish person ever even though everything that has happened proves otherwise… just saying anything. Nobody has done more than Suri has and she’s not even the one with the power mind you. Also, Scilla not feeling bad about Suris eye is soooo?? It felt like the elephant in the room everytime they were together except I was the only one seeing it apparently.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book and thank the gods because I couldn’t wait any longer!

***Spoilers and quotes are included in this review please read at your own risk***

A claiming of souls is exactly what this series needed, it wrapped up the trilogy so well and everything clicked into place so well by the end. It’s written beautifully and with such a depth of emotion. The plot is rich and so well thought out. The twists and turns however may drop you off a cliff a few times so buckle up and prepare for all the feelings.

The planning that must have gone into this series is insane. The small little twists and turns adding up to the greater plot. The turmoil and ever changing politics and world structure. The way that every character is a whole person that’s been painstakingly fleshed out. The way the author drip feeds you glimpses of the past that don’t seem relevant until suddenly they click into place. It’s all very bloody clever.

Suri and Kol circle each other’s orbits. They are the truest enemies to lovers I think I’ve ever read and it’s a wild ride to get there!
The way they navigate the world to keep each other in it is so beautiful but also so tragic at times. I love Suri for making her own rules and standing her ground. She’s morally grey but also why the hell shouldn’t she be? She’s been through so much she deserved to be selfish.
Kol changed so much in this book which was to be expected and I loved seeing him experience such varied emotion even when he was torturing himself. I did think he’d pull a muscle at one point though all that smiling has got to take a tole when you’ve been broody for years.

Also can we talk about this quote please! I needed several moments to compose myself after the ungodly squeal I made!

“Want is a word for good food and revelry. To imagine I simply want to fuck you is to imagine a starving man only wants a meal. I do not want it, I fucking crave it, you, all of it. I would claim you under every phase of the moon. I would ruin you in your finest dress in the softest sheets. I would worship you against a dirty wall.” -Kol

I love them both dearly and I would not complain if we got more books about their future together. After all they have time (don’t mind me sobbing)

I need to take a minute to talk about my boy Nadrian. This man has THE best sense of humour! The one liners and glib remarks that he chucked around had me cackling. I need to know what goes into an ice bolt because I wanna drink with him so bad! He lowers the tone constantly and then feigns shock when Suri or Scilla do it instead. I can’t cope with him.

“We’ve had worse odds,” he said.
“Have we?”
“I don’t know,” Nadrian replied. “It just felt like a nice thing to say.”

But his moments of vulnerability did me in most. I cried as she held his hand, I cried as she begged him to leave her, I cried when he left for the glen. Nadrian was my absolute downfall I’m so invested in him and he broke me only to have me wheezing laughing 2 pages later!

“Of all the people to pick a fight with, of course, we pick a god.”- Nadrian

Scilla was again a force to be reckoned with in ACOS but she also showed herself as more than that. She had so much hope, depth and love in this book. I loved her interactions with Suri even when they were painful.

The representation in this series is so well done. There’s no gimmick to it no pat on the back needed for them to be included. The characters are who they are and love who they love without being the “token diversity”. As a lesbian I appreciated how seamlessly this was done and I wish other authors treated it the same. Diversity among the Fae was extremely appreciated!

This is a found family that aren’t perfect. They each have flaws that run deep and demons that they must struggle against or overcome. It may be pegged as an enemies to lovers but you’re not just experiencing Suri and Kol’s story you get all the moving parts of the family they have built and have worked to be accepted by.

“I regret praying for an exciting life. Never a single shred of peace with you lot.”-Nadrian

It was an easy 5⭐️ for me and I really am grateful to R. A Sandpiper for letting me have the chance to read this early. If you’ve got to the end of this ramble and you want to read your next favourite series pick up this one because you will not regret it.

Such a great ending to the trilogy!
Suri and Kol work together to protect their friends and save the world from Sotoledi's return to the current world, aided by the wicked Queen Lera.
The character work in this book, and the series, is just top notch. Big personalities dominate but don't overwhelm the softer, quieter ones and we get some deep insight into past deeds and motivations. The real mark of an author is to take a dark, awful character and make their redemption arc believable. Rachel does that and more! Rasel and Scilla are just 2 prime examples of characters I never though I'd like. I found myself rooting for both and some of the scenes with Suri and Sotoledi really got me in the feels.
My favourite character has to be Nadrian! The banter is strong with this one!
Please read this series and don't forget the novella!

my rating is 4.75 rounded up for GR

Thank you to the author for the gift of the ARC!

That was such a great trilogy. I've loved it from start to finish.

This book bought the trilogy to a perfect an end, although I am sad that it's ended!

I loved Suri, Kol and company, although I think if I had to pick a favourite, it had to be Nadrian! I've loved the friendship that formed between him and Suri, and the moments in this book between the two were really some of my favourites.

I thought the characters were really well written and I enjoyed seeing how they grew as the series progressed.

I have to admit though that some parts hit hard, what with what is happening in the world. There were moments in the book where I actually thought I was reading about real life.

I thought the book was well written, and flowed really well.

If you haven't read the series, you definitely should.

Thank you so much to R.A Sandpiper for an eARC of this book.

This is the 3rd installment of the Amefyre series by this Indie author. I was lucky enough to receive the ARC of it ahead of the May 2025 release.

The book is a fantastic ending to the series. It continues the journey of this rag tag cast of unlikely heroes who are searching for a way to prevent the God of Death from coming back across the Ether. It has many twists and turns along the way that will have you on the edge of your seat.

I loved how Suri grew in this book and developed into her true self. We also got side stories and character development with Scilla and Viantha and my man, Nadrian! I think the revelations with Nad and his growth as a main character in this book were my favorite.

The story does lead up a to an epic battle at the end and the plot coming full circle. I was left with a few lingering questions or maybe plot holes so I knocked off 1/4 star for that.

Loved this book so much! For me Suri felt consistent through the series but she grew so much along the way and that doesn't always happen with main characters. I liked that throughout the magic system didn't allow for one or two people to be all powerful and unbeatable. I was hooked start to finish and so happy that Suri and Kol finally got their happy ending. I was as confused as Suri for a while there but really enjoyed how the author pulled everything together. Thoroughly recommend and would read again!

A Claiming of Souls is my favorite book in the Amefyre series, which pleasantly shocked me. Usually the first book is my favorite. With each new book in the trilogy, I fell more in love with the story and the characters. Everything from the plot, to the character development, to the writing itself continued to excel with each publication. If you like fantasy, slow burn romance, witty characters, and shadow daddies, this is one finale you won’t want to miss!

Warning! Series Spoilers below!

We end book two with a bit of uncertainty. They’ve gotten Kol’s soul back, but lost Suri’s. They have a tentative alliance of sorts with other kingdoms that could tip the war in their favor, but it’s all up in the air. The opening held the perfect amount of suspense that carried throughout and had me on the literal edge of my seat the whole time.

R.A. Sandpiper wove in foreshadowing like a cool breeze on a hot summer’s day to warn of a coming storm. From one scene to the next, I was pulled into the story with a focus that had me missing details the way the narrator would and having that *face-palm* moment when the foot dropped and everything came together.

The characters that we only see glimpses of in the first and second books get their own spotlight throughout this installment and I have to say, Nadrian is most definitely my favorite. I love a witty side character and our favorite fae prince checks all the boxes!

This was also my favorite book for Suri and Kol as individuals as well as a couple. Suri really learns who she is, embraces her flaws as well as her strengths, and strives to be the hero we all want her to be. And Kol….I mean, can we get a whole book just following him around? I love the brooding. I love the softening of his character for our MC. I love the bad boy with an all-encompassing love and passion for his woman. Two words make my stomach flip EVERY TIME I read them, “Found you.” *Cue teenage squeal and kicking of feet.*

This was probably the best written slow burn I’ve read in a LONG time. It doesn’t feel dragged out or rushed. It’s just right, as Goldilocks would say. And the spicy scenes? *chefs kiss* The perfect amount of passion without being cringey - not an easy feat, but R.A. Sandpiper does it tastefully while giving us ALL the feels.

The layers of villainy here just surprise me every time I think about it. Who is inherently good? Who is inherently evil? Who is somewhere in between? I am SO torn here, in the best way.

Last but not least, the LORE! We get to see so much more of the history that crested Suri’s world. While I know this is the last book for Suri (as emphasized by the author), I would definitely read another book in this world.

Thank you to the author for giving me an eARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Get your copy May 10!

I want to give this like 4.75 stars because overall it was amazing and I was so invested in this book. This series is going to be my new recommendation for months. I adore all the characters, especially our morally grey FMC. I only wish the ending was a little more drawn out, it felt a little convenient and there was no time for any grief. A good complaint I know but you know what I mean. Overall I adored this whole series.

4.5⭐️

it feels SURI-REAL that this series has come to an end (ha see what i did there💀). after how the second book left off & after reading viantha’s novella, i was wholeheartedly obsessed with this world and NEEDED to know how it ended. And now (thank you to my insane luck at securing the arc), i do :,)

this last instalment really focused on suri’s mental battles of self worth and belonging and i found seeing her progressively work through all her insecurities (while also preparing for the ultimate war-to-end-all-wars) crazily emotional, she truly has cemented a top spot in my ‘badass fantasy female leads’ list and it feels so bittersweet that her & kol’s story has come to an end 3

a few necessary mentions:
(1) the only reason i cannot give this a 5⭐️ is because of kol’s complete lack of communication in the first half of the book. i wanted to batter this man with a jack hammer myself and i felt his weird behaviour was rather uncharacteristic ?
(2) the end battle/s were insanely cinematic, i could perfectly envision every aspect and it had me SPEED reading out of anticipation
(3) & OF COURSE !! NADRIAN MY SWEET BELOVED <33 i need a ten part series (or at least A NOVELLA🤲PLEASE) on this man STAT

(Thank you to the author for gifting me with an ARC of this book!)

I loved this series so much! It was a blast start to finish. I picked the first one up on impulse after seeing the author on TikTok and thought I'd give it a try because TRUE enemies to lovers hits different. The second one was amazing (it's probably my favourite in the series as I've reread it and it hits just as much the second time around). And this one was really good too.
Kol was as badass as always but still paled in comparison to my queen Suri (he wouldn't mind that either, he worships her). The plot was interesting and set itself apart from typical fantasy fighting and war. Nadrian is a cutey who must be protected and reluctantly....I guess I like Scilla even though I despised her in the first book and hated her in the second.

Also a thought I had whilst reading, and I've noticed this in other fantasy books too. Whenever there's a scene where the FMC overhears information , in this case quite a lot of important information....I just think about how useless I'd be as a spy in that situation. I would forget every word of what I overheard or I'd retell it wrong and get everyone killed. Just a thought because Suri did a better job than I would lol.

Spoilers:

Let's get into it.

Suri: My babyyyy. I think i said it in my review before but Suri is so awsome as a main character. She's everything i want in my female protagonists. She's smart, funny and genuinly a good person. She's had some great development throughout the series from being a lone thief to a valued member of the court. She also begun the series quite selfish (which i don't mind because go for it queen, be a bit selfish) but she's found a family and chooses to fight alongside them. One thing i adore about her is how well spoken she is at points in this book, she really doesn't take any shit and stands on business. I love that she stands up for herself not in an overly antagonisit way if you know what i mean. She won't just scream and shout, she will calmly humble the hell out of that person. One of my favourite moments is when she's drinking and chilling at the outpost and Kol comes and suggests she's doing it to hurt him. He suggests his rejection hurt her and now she's acting out and my girl IMMEDIATLY SHUTS HIM DOWN. She explains about why she's acting as she is, mentioning her trauma he seemingly forgot, how she's lonely and trying to grapple with her worth and the loss of her soul. She says it, not to hurt him back but to explain why he's wrong and he understands. Their communication is chef's kiss, but I'll talk about them more later.
One little gripe I had with this book was the whole Suri doesn't have a soul thing but then she just gets it back? I knew she'd get it back eventually but it just happened so nonchalantly to where I was like...oh guess it wasn't that big of a deal then. Aside from a few mentions to Suri struggling with her feelings, her not having a soul didn't really change much. If anything it was just used as a device to prevent Kol and Suri from getting together a but sooner. I don't know, maybe I was just expecting more from her loosing her soul but she kind of just acted the same.

Kol and Suri: What cuties. Honestly they've had such good development. I adore when a couple doesn't just transition from enemies to lovers seemingly over night. It takes time and they first become friends and reluctant allies. Their romance doesn't feel overplayed, it feels natural and not hyper sexualised as well. Don't get me wrong they have their sexual moments and tension but not every interaction of theirs's is fully or hormones and sexual thoughts. Even when they do get together, it's not super in your face and overpowering the plot or story. There's cute moments where he just kissed her head and they go their seperate ways to do their own thing because they're still individuals outside of the romance. Also the power couple energy...chefs kiss. The way they work together and took down those people who attacked at the water-borne estate was so badass.
I also love their little thing about Kol sleeping on the floor, i love when a couple has a little thing (almost like an inside joke but not a joke yk)

More review to come, i'm just compiling my thoughts.

I really liked this series, good storyline, lots of action and a good balance of romance. it wasn't so much I was fed up of them every 5 minutes.

thank you to the author who kindly provided me and others with early access in exchange for an honest review

i loved this book.
a lot of things felt natural. first, the friendship development between Nadrian and Suri felt so genuine and it was my favorite relationship in the book. i loved that it didn’t feel like an arc to build Suri’s character but a real relationship that mattered to the author.

the worldbuilding also was, in my opinion, fantastic. it’s hard to believe this really is a debut novel. the plost twists were all great, and while i was able to guess some of them, a vast majority left me speechless.

the villains in this book are great. i love that towards the end, a lot of emphasis is on the fact that Suri and Lera are very much alike, but i feel like this wasnt brought a lot throughout the serie. also, i didn’t find Suri THAT morally grey, i don’t mind at all, it is just how the story was adverstised.
speaking if villains, i loved Sotoledi and his back story a lot, that wasnt something i expected at all. the little texts from him at the beginning of each chapters were brilliant and at first i wondered whom they were from. my first guess was Nadrian, then Diophage (and i felt so smart guessing it) so my jaw dropped when i understood it was from Sotoledi. (by the way, i felt the same thing from book 1. for book 2, i guessed it right away but it didn’t make it less enjoyable in any way)

i only didn’t rate this book a 4 and not a 5 because the thing that drawn me towards the book was the lemene i like the least: the love story. i wasnt rooting for Kol, i didn’t find the relationship between Suri and him as believable as her friendship with Nadrian. that said, i think it is only a matter of preferences and im sure a lot of people will love this part

overall, a great book and one of my favorite read of the year so far⭐️

thank you again to the author for giving me early access.

I finally finished my ARC copy of A Claiming of Souls by R. A. Sandpiper. This is the final part of her Amefyre trilogy, and it was a satisfying conclusion to a great series. (Also, just FYI—there’s a companion novella!)
The ending was genuinely unpredictable. I usually have a good sense of where stories are going, but this one kept me guessing—so kudos to the author. I really enjoyed the story in this final book. A lot was happening, and there was even a little callback to the novella, which I appreciated.
There were some surprising moments throughout. Suri’s new powers were used really well—I liked that they didn’t make her feel overpowered or invincible. She still had real moral dilemmas to face and discovered a lot about herself. Her arc was deeply satisfying; she truly developed as a character while still staying true to who she was at her core.
Kol, the other main character, wasn’t as prominent in this instalment. He was present, but he didn’t stand out as much this time. Another character, Nadrian—a fan favourite, and one I really like too—felt much more central here. I think the author may have just fallen in love with him.
There was one story element I was kind of dreading—without spoiling anything—it reminded me of a structure I usually don’t enjoy. Growing up, I had a favourite historical novel that ended in a similar way, and I always dreaded that part with every re-read.
I really dislike it when characters are stuck in one place for too long. I don’t even know why it bothers me so much, but it always does. It makes me feel restless. I want them to move, to go somewhere, to do something. I even get like that with TV shows—if there’s a hostage situation or a bottle episode where everyone’s stuck in a room, I’ll sometimes just skip it entirely. That kind of setting just drags for me, no matter how well-written it is.
So when I realised that might be happening here, I got nervous. But thankfully, it wasn’t too bad. Yes, there’s a stretch where they’re stuck, but it didn’t feel static. There was still plenty going on—emotionally, narratively, and even physically—and it didn’t feel like a waiting game. That made a huge difference.
Overall, this was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. And if you haven’t read it yet—what are you doing with your life? Are you really a fantasy reader? Just go and read it!

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review....

Finishing A Claiming of Souls did just that. RA Sandpiper has taken my soul and I feel like I've said goodbye to friends.

The journey continues and the Thief and the Son of Life battle their way to an ending that left me wishing I could read this series for the first time again.

Adventure, war, love and heart ripping character development.

There aren't enough words to describe how I feel right now.

RA Sandpiper is definitely one to watch... looking forward to what she delivers in to literary world next!!

4.5/4.75*’s - I love this trilogy!!!!

After inhaling book 1 and 2 (these books are where I realised slow burns were actually my jam, and what I thought was “info dumping” was actually ME just being slow), I was absolutely dying for book 3 and was over the moon when I was able to get an ARC and conclude Suri/Kol’s story. I think I could read about them forever… so honestly I will 100% be rereading this series.

There is another review on this book that absolutely nails my thoughts, though with some spoilers, so if you want something with a bit more comprehension and insight, definitely check out Gemma’s review!! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

⏳ Sensational Conclusion To This Incredible Series! ⏳

Wow! Just Wow!! I can’t believe how incredible this book is. Rachel left the best parts for last.

The character of FMC Suri, or "Little Thief" as introduced in book one, is impressive. The author's skillful character development makes her a complex and captivating character. FMC Suri's devotion and willingness to put herself in harm's way for her found family - her "home" - demonstrate her remarkable loyalty and selflessness. She’s the shining star of this book and this series and will forever remain one of my favourite FMCs of all times.

The author did an excellent job with the other characters too, giving them all their own limelight and journey. I loved the relationship that blossomed between Viantha and Scilla, and how protective Scilla was of her when they were together. The beautiful and extremely witty Fairy King Nadrian 100% stole the show from me. There were some great moments between him and Suri in this book. My heart literally stopped during a certain scene in the book, (iykyk). So cruel Rachel!

Let's not forget our main man - Kol, a man who consistently came through for everyone when they needed him most. He had a deep affection for Suri, and his beautiful words to her, 'Nen alerisee f'ith sotele,' which translate to 'the light in the darkness,' were both heartwarming and soulful.

The battle between light and darkness reaches its epic conclusion in a heart-pounding, expertly crafted battle scene that left me on the edge of my seat, and the epilogue at the end finished the story perfectly. This book and series are highly addictive, entertaining, and definitely recommended for fans of the genre.

⭐️4.5⭐️

I was lucky to have been given an ARC of this book. I sped through the first two books and novella, completely hooked, and couldn’t wait for the next one!

Like the other books, I couldn’t guess what would happen next, and I love when a story isn’t predictable (and not in a “trying to be unpredictable” way either).

I didn’t give this book a 5 because even though I love a slow burn, it felt a bit too slow for me, same with the plot over a series. HOWEVER, I didn’t feel like the storyline was rushed, which can happen when it’s a slower plot build up. Even though I wish I could’ve had more Time for some of the plot lines and scenes, hardly anything was left unturned. Wouldn’t mind a couple more novellas though ;)

Sad I’m done with the series, but what a journey. Jealous of everyone who gets to binge read all of it!

I received the ARC edition the first day on my honeymoon and I never thought it would be possible to be so disappointed to be holidaying, but boy was it a long 2 weeks of waiting before I had time to devour this book!

I had tried a dozen self published books before stumbling across A Pocket of Lies last year, and it was the first one to really drag me in and keep me itching for me. The Amefyre series very quickly became my favourite collection, I've read the first 2 books more times than some other series I've owned for over 10 years. The final book in the trilogy did not disappoint!

Reading Suri finally find her way in the world, and all the twists and turns along the way keeps you desperate for more with every page turn. This trilogy satisfies the urge for a true slow burn, enemies to lovers story, and ACOS hits the nail on the head of how to end a series.

I'm sad it's over, but I'm so excited to see what R. A. Sandpiper does next. If this is how strong she starts out, I can't wait to follow along with her writing journey.
