Mated Myths #1

Seducing Scylla

Rate this book
A Sapphic Greek Mythology Inspired Monster Romance

I can almost pretend it’s an adventure with a new friend—a Contiki tour to a mystical island filled with mythical creatures.

When Morgan's helpfulness sees her kidnapped and thrown in the back of a van, the last thing she expects is to end up marooned on a sentient and not-so-mythical island. Even less so, when she finds herself face to face with a tantalizing sea monster who claims they are fated mates.

Morgan is faced with figuring out how she’s going to get home, and more importantly, does she even want to?

Seducing Scylla is a story about second chances, finding love where you least expect it, and new beginnings. Join Morgan and Scylla as they navigate language barriers, meddling Fates, and a burning hot desire that neither of them seems able to control.

Greek mythology, monster romance and tentacles (IYKYK). And if you don’t know you’ll soon find out.

This is a must read for fans of Clio Evans.

Seducing Scylla is a sapphic monster romance set on a sentient island.

Overall it flows really nicely and the pace was great. The exciting moments were spread out. I laughed a few times and felt emotional a couple of times.

I also thought the length of the book was perfect. It was a quick and easy read and the pace worked well.

I finished the book in one sitting and have plenty of question but alas I’ll need to wait for book 2.

My favourite quote:
“We are so different, but also the same in many ways. The deep hurt that lingers in our hearts begs for someone to ease it, and perhaps we can do that for each other.”

Well done Lex on your debut novel. I can’t wait to see what else you write.

I am incredibly privileged to have read Seducing Scylla already.

So I enjoyed the beginning of this book, with the kidnapping and ending up on an island with Scylla. The language barrier was also good. But so many meaningful moments of relationship development seemed glossed over. I felt like I couldn’t see their personalities as well as I would have liked.

Spice: 2/5

Triggers: trafficking, captivity, threat of drowning, infertility/miscarriages (historical), divorce, brief internalized homophobia, threat of SA

If, as a child, you were very taken with the idea of being shipwrecked on an island and living off the land, making a cool home inside a cave - then I have good news for you. Now you are an adult, and this daydream would be made that much better by finding your fated mate on said island.

*What to expect*

Morgan is our shipwrecked maiden (not actually, I just wanted an m-word) and she finds herself scared, alone, and seeking refuge in a cave. Who should come across a sleeping Morgan but our Suave Cephalopod Queen, Scylla.

What follows is a short and sweet whirlwind romance between Morgan and Scylla that will absolutely have you kicking your legs and grinning like a fool.

This novella is ABSOLUTELY for fans of IPB (Ice Planet Barbarians). There are moments of tension, and a bigger world and story to be explored, which will make those who love to get lost in a new world quite happy. It also gets PRETTY STEAMY with our ladies so don’t worry, smut lovers are well looked after.

FIVE STARS FOR THIS DEBUT

This was such a wonderful read, short spicy and sweet with fantastic pacing and a delightful dash of Greek mythology.
I cannot lie, I think I would accept the traumatic situation that led to Morgan landing on the island of Aeolia if it led to me meeting my beautiful fated mate who is hell-bent on taking care of me.

I am certainly going to be lining up to read all future Mated Myths books by Lex Logan and I want to thank Lex for the eARC so kindly provided.

I really enjoyed this modern retelling of the famous tale of Scylla!

I know it’s a novella so it’s supposed to be short but I really wish it was much longer. I genuinely enjoyed the story and wish there was more time to flesh out the characters and their relationships with each other.

Due to its short length, there were a few plot holes and unrealistic aspects to the story (e.g. the women all disappearing, no mention of the Drakons again, Morgan just instantly accepting her fate, etc.)

I also feel like it could’ve been smuttier, but that’s just my opinion. This would be a good introduction for readers who are new to monster-love and smut, but as a seasoned smut lover I felt like there were a lot of missed opportunities and room for more, though the length of the story may also contribute to the lack of smut I was hoping for.

Overall, I did thoroughly enjoy this book. I just wish it was longer, but that just emphasises how much I liked the story and how potential both this story and the author have.

I loved this! It was on the shorter side, but still such an enjoyable read. I loved the instant connection between Morgan and Scylla, and the twist on the Mythology in the Odyssey! Scylla was a protective queen and Morgan was such a strong FMC, trying to save all those who washed up on shore with her. I really enjoyed this and would recommend this to any mythology or monster lover!

Thank you Lex for the arc ❤️❤️

This was an interesting take on Greek mythology. The heroine Morgan falling for the "monster" Scylla. When we all know who the real monster in the story is and how that thrust Morgan into this predicament. The love story was cute with enough spice, and the ending is definitely a HEA. I would love to see more stories in the same world.

This is such a fun story and has a great set up for the rest of the mated myths books.

It's got a really good balance of sweet and spicy & I definitely think this is a great book for anyone who has not yet dabbled into monster romance!

Thank you so much Lex for the opportunity to read this as an arc!

This was a sweet, monster romance that I think readers will love- especially if you are branching out into monster romance and want a read that can ease you into it! This sapphic, quick read was a great start to the series. Morgan is a librarian who is abducted & stranded on a remote, magical island where she meets Scylla, not only a mythical creature but…her fated mate! I really enjoyed this one and highly recommend for anyone who loves a bit of monster romance (ahem, tentacles are involved.) I genuinely wish this book was longer, I think I would of enjoyed it so much if we got the opportunity to see this story really fleshed out but I also love it’s quick pace as well! Looking forward to the sequel!

If you love the idea of reading a book where the FMC gets kidnapped from her day job, ship wrecked on a mystical island and finds her fated mate, this is the book for you.
I've been in a reading slump for a while and this book was just such a cute lil pick me up. Definitely not my usual read but did I love it? Yes i did.
Do I now want a pet shark even though I am deeply afraid of the ocean? Yes I do.

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance
Spice: 3/5 🌶️

Tropes & themes: sapphic romance, human x sea monster, forced proximity, fated mates, touch-starved monster, size difference, language barrier, tentacles and oviposition, touch her and die, sentient island, Greek mythology influences, found family vibes, cave home

Spoiler-free Summary:
Morgan was just trying to be nice, and look where that landed her: kidnapped in a shipping container full of other stolen women. If that wasn’t bad enough, amid a storm, her shipping container slides from its ship, marooning Morgan on a mysterious island home to a host of mythical creatures including a beautifully monstrous, tentacled woman that claims Morgan is her mate. Maybe Fate isn’t so cruelly after all.

Thoughts:
This was SO much fun! Imagine your favorite shipwrecked story, but add in a deliciously large, beautifully scary, possessive and protective sea monster that wants to take care of you. *swoons*

I appreciate a monster romance MC that doesn’t shy away from being attracted to their monster, and Morgan was unabashedly a monster f*cker, and I love that for them. Scylla was so sweet and tender with Morgan, yet she protected and cared for her with the instincts of a predator. I loved the little moments where Morgan was feral for Scylla’s more animal behaviors. And of course, I LOVED the tentacles 😂

The story itself was fast paced and full of adventure! Although shorter in length, I felt the story was well developed and the characters had plenty of space to breathe.

I definitely recommend this adorable sapphic romance!

🪽Loved how the story was both heartfelt and well-paced, with Scylla’s protectiveness and their shared pasts adding real depth.

📕Talk about trying to be kind and ending up in the wrong place wrong time 🥴
📕The story flowed really well throughout
📕Sometimes with shorter stories things can be missed snd skipped but this wasn’t the case - it was structured so well and told a full broad engaging story.
📕The need Scylla has to protect what is hers melted my heart 🩵
📕I loved the connection they have over their pasts.

🍷I’m cursing myself for not reading more survivalist books instead of losing myself in smutty romance novels.
🍷I am frozen in place. This woman with sand in her hair, wet clothing, and the prettiest eyes I have ever seen in my life is my… mate.
🍷“If you think I am letting you out of my arms, you are sorely mistaken.”
🍷“You may look like a monster, but you’re not one. Plus, I kind of dig the tentacles.”
🍷There is so much for me to learn, but I want to. I want to keep you.”
My eyes drift close. There’s a growing part of me that wants to be kept.

I had the best time with this one, binged it in one sitting was the perfect novella. Seducing Scylla is a sapphic monster romance, inspired by Greek Mythology. The story follows Morgan and Scylla and was both sweet and spicy, I just loved every moment of this.

It’s a story about second chances, finding love when you least expect it and new beginnings with such a beautiful setting. I loved the plot as well and I’m very intrigued to see where the next book takes us.

Book 2 in the Mated Myths series Tempting Triton will be out on August 23rd and I cannot wait to read it!

really liked it, it’s a high 3 for me. a 3.7-3.8/5. i’m usually picky about such quick romances but of course i make exceptions for short romance books but also this one has the bonus excuse of the fated mates trope. i will say one of my few complaints is the constant fourth wall breaking (? if it can be called that?), it got annoying very quickly. i guess it’s more of an awareness than breaking the fourth wall, but whatever it’s called, /that/ i did not like. it was funny at first but it very quickly became excessive.

however, all this to say, i really did enjoy it, it is a definite reread and honestly something i would buy a physical copy of.

This was my first full monster book and tentacles and saphic. And I enjoyed it all!
First of all the writing is so good and extremely easy to read. I enjoyed getting to know Morgan and Scylla. The storyline on how the fates brings these teo together is interesting and I definitely still have questions. The spice was done well and was at the right times. There is a good mixture of plot and spice for the story. The onliner humour moments I loved. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Short, sweet, and a sprinkle of spice.
The whole being kidnapped thing seems overdone, but it went so well in this story. I loved the little pets! They are such good babies and deserve all the treats of bad people! I feel so bad for Scylla, but if her past wasn't the way it was, she and Morgan would never have met.
I loved the epilogue because Morgan finally got the family she dreamed of!

literally read this all in one sitting because it was amazing. it's the book that's my type of guilty pleasure that I'll always go back to reread, it was captivating and engaged me all the way through. Morgan and Scylla's relationship was well thought out and written, and it was one of my favourite relationship dynamics too.

It was cute but for a monster romance it definitely needed more monster smut. So many missed tentacle opportunities. A good beginner book for intro to monster romance and the plot definitely set up for future stories.

Great novella for in between heavy world building series or if you just need something short and easy to fill in an hour.

Thank you Lex for letting me read and review your debut novel! It was such a treat to read!

This was such a fun read, it was the perfect balance of smutty romance and also tying in the myths that Scylla is based on, so it also made my mythology nerd self very happy 😂 This was a very quick read, but I still felt very attached to both Scylla and Morgan, and was rooting for them the whole time 💜

I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book Lex puts out!!
