Maid in Manhattan meets Safe Haven in this Hallmark Christmas-style series starter, Maid at Christmas, featuring sweet romance and a cozy holiday atmosphere with just a touch of tension.
She wants a fresh start. He's looking for purpose. Can Christmas at the Lockwood Lodge show them the future is brighter than the past?
When Sonora Jackson searches for a way out of New Orleans—and away from her ex-fiancé—she ends up exchanging beignets for a broom when she accepts a position in housekeeping at the Lockwood Lodge. The picturesque mountains of Vermont, and the luxury of the lodge at Christmastime, is exactly what she needs, but she didn’t bargain for the handsome, bookish man she meets there.
Graham Hastings needs a vacation more than he needs the worry over selling his company, but the two come hand in hand as he arrives in Vermont for an exclusive retreat for others just like billionaires. Focused on relaxing and recovering from yet another failed relationship, he’s not ready for the near-instant attraction he feels for Sonora. At least she’s like him—rich—and not likely to date him for his money.
Set against a snow-drenched backdrop of Vermont mountains and the quaint small town of Middlebrook with its own set of quirky characters, love blooms even as the truth separates. Can Sonora admit her status as a low-income maid and explain why she lied? Will Graham see past her profession to the heart of her feelings for him? And will he be able to keep her safe when her past comes calling?
Maid at Christmas is the first book in the Lockwood Lodge sweet romance series. This small town holiday romance features tropes like billionaire romance, age gap, and he falls first. There is a slight suspense thread included in this book, but it does not overshadow the cozy Christmas setting or aspect of sweet romance.
Bell Renshaw is a pen name for Emilie Haney who grew up in the Pacific Northwest and has a love for the outdoors that matches her love for the written word. She turned her passion for stories toward writing at an early age, finding entertainment and adventure in made-up worlds fed by the books her parents read to her as a child. Now, she's still getting lost in those worlds but they are of her own making.
You'll find sweet romance under the Bell pen name and romantic suspense under Emilie Haney.
Hi, yes, I would like to book my life-long retreat to a cozy Vermont inn with a 24-hour hot cocoa bar, thank you so much. 🫶
"Maid at Christmas" was practically perfect for me, tbh. I've not read a lot of billionaire romances, but I loved the way it was done here. Sonora and Graham have such a sweet love story; there's not a ton of lying or hidden identities (which can often be a pitfall of this type of story for me) but they're pretty upfront early on about their attraction to one another. For the most part, they actually act like adults, and I appreciate it, lol! (and when they make silly choices, both have sassy best friends at the ready to call them out about it, which I loved!) It's also squeaky clean with Christian characters, so what's not to love? It was such a delightful read, and I'm so excited to see what happens next at Lockwood Lodge!
Maid at Christmas brought to mind movie classic White Christmas due to its Vermont setting at a quaint inn.
In this current day novella, select upper crust members of society are invited to spend a week at Lockwood Lodge to just be themselves. Guests are greeted by their first name only (which may or may not be their true name). It's a unique chance to live a normal life for a week. Graham Hastings has recently been burned by his girlfriend and his father is hounding him about the family business. Graham welcomes the week to unwind.
Sonora Jackson fled her former fiance in Louisiana to work as a maid at her best friend's lodge in Vermont. Sonora just wants to be free from her ex-fiance Jonah and start over. What she doesn't expect is a quick attraction to one of the guests.
Sweet moments in this novella as Graham and Sonora learn to trust themselves and others again.
My gratitude to Just Read Tours for a complimentary e-copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
Maid At Christmas is the second book I have read written by Bell Renshaw and I look forward to reading more. This was a quick and easy read; I could not put it down. I enjoyed it and truly felt like I was in a hallmark movie.
The character development was good. I enjoyed getting to know Sonora and the reason she was where she was. I also enjoyed getting to know Graham. It was fun watching how Sonora navigated her past relationship with her ex-fiancé.
The storyline and setting were cute. They were straight out of Hallmark movie. A snow-covered lodge in Mountainous Vermont just screams Hallmark movie. It added to the story. But if you do not appreciate Hallmark, this might not be your cup of tea.
The developing relationship between Sonora and Graham was perfect. Getting to know each other, but both keeping secrets due to the nature of the retreat was the perfect balance, for a relationship disaster. But over coming this omission and past hurt relationships help them grow closer together. The relationship was sweet and nothing over the top. I appreciate a clean romance.
The Christian element was light, but I still appreciated that it was there. If you are looking for a clean Christmas romance heavy on the hallmark with light faith, this is the book for you.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
‘Tis the season to look forward to the approaching holidays with books filled with warm cheer and all things Christmas. Bell Renshaw’s Maid at Christmas follows the story of Lockwood Lodge’s newest maid, Sonora, and billionaire guest Graham Hastings as they learn to trust and find love just in time for the holidays.
It was a sweet book reminiscent of everyone’s favorite winter Hallmark movies with slightly more serious parts woven throughout the story. The book does discuss emotional abuse and manipulation, and although there’s nothing explicit in the story, the plot seems most suitable for an adult audience.
There was one thing that caught my attention in a bad way throughout the story that, if improved, would have made it a better read. The main issue for me - and maybe it’s a minor one - was the naming of the characters. The story was filled with characters with unique names - from Sonora and Blythe, to Graham, Marcus, Leo, and more. I’m actually a huge fan of unique names, but it just felt like too much for me. Any small town lodge filled with people is bound to have a few Sarahs and Johns, and the lack of more common names made the story feel less authentic.
All said, it was a cute book with a few flaws and makes for a cozy read leading up to the holiday season.
I received a free copy of this book for review from the author. A positive review was not required. All opinions are my own.
Lockwood Lodge is a destination I would love to go to. Thankfully, Maid at Christmas allowed me to visit this magical location set in a picturesque Vermont town at Christmas time.
Readers experience the story through the eyes of both Sonora and Graham as each character arrives at the lodge harboring secrets that threaten to haunt their holiday and future. Arriving as strangers, they soon meet, neither knowing the others true identity. Their quick connection is tested by misunderstandings, personal history, and a little danger. Will their new relationship survive to see a Merry Christmas or a dreary New Year?
I loved the setting, community, touches of faith, and suspense.
The surface level romance, deceit, and character reactions to some circumstances were misses for me.
I reccomend this story to readers who enjoy sweet, clean, Christmas romance with a dash of faith and suspense. I look forward to continuing the series. 3.5/5
I received a free eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Graham is a billionaire looking for a retreat from his life and a break from it all. Sonora is a maid working temporarily at her friend Blythe's retreat while she restarts her life after leaving a controlling ex boyfriend. The retreat this week is holding a very secretive event for millionaires and billionaires to mingle, relax and stay anonymous. When Sonora and Graham meet they instantly have a connection. But according to the retreat neither can share their true identities. SO they can get close, but the elephant in the room is always their true identities. When Sonora catches on to who Graham really is she hides it from him, knowing that if identities are shared the retreat will lose business. But it's hard to lie to Graham, especially when all she wants to do is be honest. What will he think when he finds out she's a maid? What happens if he finds out she's known who he is all along? Add on a controlling ex boyfriend that is closing in on Sonora's location... this story has everything: secret identities, a forbidden romance, suspense and all in this snowy small town around Christmas. I loved this story and it seems Blythe needs her own story now!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, the review was all my own opinion.
head to vermont and the charming lockwood lodge for a feelgood holiday romance!
sonora jackson wants distance from her past; graham hastings wants clarity for his future. the lockwood lodge brings these two together, when they wouldn't have crossed paths otherwise. they both have something to hide—and something to lose—but perhaps, in finding each other, they might just find the freedom to be themselves.
bell renshaw's maid at christmas is a sweet christmas romance. the lockwood lodge is a perfect setting for a holiday romance with all the snow, activities, and hot cocoa bar. add in a couple ride-or-die best friends, an inadvertent deception, a no-good ex, and a devious reporter, and it all makes for an enjoyable story.
it's easy to like sonora and graham (even knowing the misunderstanding is coming eventually). they both are desperate to learn from the past and not make the same romantic mistakes again, and i just wanted them to be happy together. their chemistry is natural and fun, and seeing them interact was always a delight.
if you're looking for a sweet christmas romance, check out maid at christmas!

Author Bell Renshaw has written an absolutely charming holiday romance that readers will love. This Hallmark film style story takes place at a small vacation lodge, Lockwood Lodge in Vermont. This also gives the story a bit of a White Christmas movie feel, as well. Readers will enjoy getting to know the characters, billionaire Graham Hastings and maid at the lodge Sonora Jackson and how they ended up where there. Renshaw’s story is a sweet rags to riches romance that takes place during the Christmas holiday season. A light, quick, and easy read that is perfect for that cold night curled up in front of the fireplace.

If you're looking for a Christmas novel that's reminiscent of a Hallmark Christmas movie, look no further! Maid at Christmas fits that description perfectly. Set at an exclusive resort in a quaint Vermont town, this cozy romance is sure to put you in the mood for Christmas.
I enjoyed reading about Sonora and Graham as they got to know each other. Their personalities clicked and Renshaw managed to show how they could get to know each other on a deep level while withholding basic information from each other. Graham, a billionaire, comes to the resort for a getaway for successful individuals seeking a respite from high-stress jobs and the demands of fame. The retreat's requirement of anonymity provided the perfect reason for Sonora and Graham's lack of honesty with each other, and allowed the novel to avoid the usual flaws of the miscommunication trope. The trope is well-executed in this story, and so it didn't irritate me as much as it usually does.
I would've liked to see a little more development in the various characters of the novel. Their personalities fall a little flat, not really going deeper than surface-level descriptors: Sonora is a kind FMC who's seeking a new start, Graham is a charming yet nerdy billionaire, Blythe and Marcus are their loyal friends. All form a likeable cohort of characters, but none of their personalities really go much deeper than this in the story. It's conventional for this kind of story, so not very surprising, but doesn't make for an all-consuming reading experience.
That said, I did like that the plot offered some real conflicts in the characters' lives beyond them simply becoming a couple. Graham grapples with his complicated relationship with his father and the trust issues that come along with being significantly wealthier than just about everybody, while Sonora is trying to build a new life for herself while trying to escape from her controlling ex. These issues are heavier than we usually see in a Christmas novel, and, while some of the twists were predictable, they added depth to the storyline.
Maid at Christmas was a fun way to kick off my Christmas reading for the year, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to read it! This was a solid 3🌟 read for me - a nice reading getaway with a sweet romance and wintry ambience!
My first book by this author, I really enjoyed the build up of the gentle yet still spark filled connection between the two leads, how the big reveal/third act conflict was handled, and the lead's relationships with their best friends. I'm also very excited to read Blythe's story next!
The characters are very like able and the setting is beautiful! This book is perfect for a Christmas read.
The meet cute between Graham and Sonora I think is absolutely adorable. I can picture it and it feels so relatable!
I liked how down to earth and loveable Graham is. He has some past baggage that keeps him slightly guarded, but he thinks things through and gives Sonora the benefit of the doubt. Such a good book bf!
Sonora (I love her name) is such a loyal and compassionate person. A few things she did were kinda annoying, but we are all human and we all make questionable decisions and that is what made her realistic.
I love a good HEA. Graham and Sonora got theirs, I just wish we could know more about it.
This story is a fun, Christmasy read to pick up and enjoy when you are in need of a little holiday magic. I enjoyed getting to know Sonora and Graham as they got to know one another. Both of them have just come out of relationships that left a bad taste in their mouths, leaving them questioning if the other is hiding similar faults to their exes.
I enjoyed this sweet, holiday themed romance and the misunderstandings that come about as Sonora and Graham get to know one another. The lodge backdrop is perfect, and I look forward to reading the next book in this series. This is a delightful, Winter read to pick up and enjoy!
I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.
Bell Renshaw has written a delightfully descriptive novel set in Vermont at Christmas that had me truly questioning if it was really 85F outside while I was reading.
"Maid at Christmas" is truly a mixture of "Maid in Manhattan" and "Safe Haven" with even a bit of "White Christmas" (my favorite) thrown in for good measure. It even had some Bing Crosby (also a favorite)!
Sonora and Graham were both great characters. The author did a wonderful job with the "billionaire" trope. I wonder how Graham turned out so well when the odds were stacked against him being a complete jerk. Instead he was a great listener AND Graham loved to read! Sonora was also a reader and was constantly pulling a well-loved book from her pocket.
I especially loved the bit of suspense toward the end.
This was the first time I've read anything by this author but this book has me wanting to read more of her work. It appears that she has written books in a few different genres.
I fell in love with Lockwood Lodge and hope to return there soon!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Maid at Christmas is about Sonora, who works as a maid at Lockwood Lodge. Starting over after a break-up with her fiancé in New Orleans, she seeks refuge and a new life in Vermont. There is more in her future than she realizes once she meets Graham.
The story is heartwarming with twists to keep you on the edge-of-your-seat, wondering what will happen next. The budding romance is sweet and will draw you deeper into the main characters as their many layers are revealed through suspense and mystery. The setting of the lodge at Christmas time brings part of the story to life, showing you a warm, cozy environment inside.
This is the first book by Bell Renshaw I've read, but can say, "I'm a fan!" Can't wait to read the next one. Highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
This is the first book I have read by Bell Renshaw and it will not be my last. I loved the lodge setting in the mountains of Vermont. I could actually picture the Lodge and the small, mountain town. It was the perfect Christmas setting for this story. The quaint, small town shops are all decorated for Christmas and the coffee shop has fun, warm drinks. The warm Lodge fires, the snow, the hot cocoa bar, the wonderful characters, and the romance all led to a fun story I could not stop reading! I enjoyed that Graham Hastings did not know who Sonora was and assumed she was at the Lodge for the same reason that he was. He did not even notice that she was the maid who had cleaned his suite. She even has a stalker of an ex-fiance looking for her which is why she fled to her friend's lodge in Vermont. All of that made for a fun story. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Maid at Christmas is set at the Lockwood Lodge in snowy Vermont. Sonora has fled her life in Louisiana to come work for, Blythe, her best friend from college as a maid. She is trying to escape her controlling and emotionally abusive ex fiancé. Graham Hastings is a billionaire. He has come to the lodge for a special anonymous retreat for rich people. They are not to disclose who they are in order to have a nice, relaxed week like a normal person. He is trying to relax and not deal with business or his difficult father for the week. Blythe has been put in charge of running the lodge by her grandfather, and is trying to live up to his legacy.
Graham and Sonora meet in the hotel lobby where the cocoa bar and cozy furnishings are a welcome reading spot for both. They are attracted to each other and begin talking. The story continues with them getting to know each other while never disclosing who they are. She doesn’t tell him she’s a maid at the lodge, and he doesn’t tell her he’s a billionaire. Sonora does find out who he is when Blythe lets the cat out of the bag to her. This is a disastrous slip up that could ruin the lodge’s reputation as the retreat is supposed to be anonymous. The retreats participants are promised secrecy. Sonora agrees to keep Blythe’s indiscretion to herself which of course leads to problems down the road when Graham finds out that she has known who he is almost the whole time they’ve known each other.
I found it a little hard to believe that after the anonymous nature of the retreat was hyped so much Blythe would let the identity of the biggest vip slip. Also, if he is a very well known rich and successful businessman would others at the retreat especially those that run in that circle not know or recognize each other? The premise of can he get over her being a lowly maid also raised an eyebrow. She is college educated and has only become a maid during her escape from Louisiana. My biggest issues I had with the book were based on the abuse storyline. I felt that there were a lot of things that someone who has been in an abusive relationship would not do. For instance, If you’re hiding from someone you wouldn’t have your new paycheck go to a joint bank account with them. There were also a lot of things that were downplayed. If you can just read this from the standpoint of a fictional story, and have never been in an abusive relationship then you probably won’t have a problem. If you have gone through that this may not be the holiday story you are looking for as it might not be a happy escape for you to read at Christmas. I received a complimentary book, but the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This one was so sweet and cozy yet had a suspenseful side as well. It felt like an ELEVATED Hallmark movie. I loved that we dug deeper than surface level with both the MMC and FMC. And the setting of the Lockwood Lodge – gah! It was a winter wonderland dream come true. To say this was a perfect December read feels like an understatement.
Sonora is seeking a fresh start after breaking things off with her extremely manipulative ex-fiancé. Her best friend sets her up with a housekeeping position at Lockwood Lodge. This year the lodge is hosting a “secret” retreat for the extremely wealthy. The retreat allows the attendants to be completely incognito and focus on things outside the size of their businesses and bank accounts. This is when Sonora meets Graham…the billionaire…only she isn’t supposed to know that fact. His bank account has absolutely nothing to do with the chemistry they sense between each other. Graham is kind, bookish, easy-going and a joy to be around. He’s everything her dreaded ex wasn’t. When Graham and Sonora start spending time together, she feels the pressure of being honest with the fact that she’s a maid at the lodge and not a guest.
Graham is also looking for a fresh start career wise, but his father is 100% against his plans. He wasn’t setting out to find love, especially when money hungry women are constantly on the prowl. Trust is a hard concept for him, but something about Sonora seems different and feels right. I loved that both Graham and Sonora had BFF side characters that were so incredibly sincere and heartfelt in helping them sort through their feelings. Although these characters are coming out of places of darkness, there is SO much light in their futures.
So happy to have discovered this new-to-me author!

Bell Renshaw has created a movie in written form and it is quite enjoyable, though predictable. Sometimes, that is the perfect thing for a Hallmark movie-style book. The theme of looking for regaining your footing and falling for another in the setting of a gorgeous winter wonderland at Christmas is full on in this story. Throw in a billionaire (how did I not know that this was a book trope?) and you have a fun, simple, and enjoyable read.
Sonora is trying to find her way after finding the courage to leave a bad relationship. She gets as far away from New Orleans as she can and takes on the job of housekeeping at a luxury hotel. Graham is trying to find his way away from his overbearing father and into the world of being a good guy who just happens to have a lot of money. (My favorite line had to do with Graham wanting to become the man his father never was.)
While they navigate the secrecy of the retreat center's week of hosting the ultra-rich of the world, they find that they enjoy each other's company and find solace in the honesty that they share. Except, the secrecy of the week means there is something hiding beneath the surface that could ruin it all.
This clean romance has a bit of Christianity in it, just enough to make it not your typical romance, though I could have enjoyed it being a lot bolder in the faith. I think it would have made the characters better. I did enjoy the story and don't mind at all sharing it with others.
I received a copy of the e-book from the author. All opinions are my own.
What a delightful book! I’ve loved every Bell Renshaw book I’ve read and Maid at Christmas is no exception! This sweet romance gracefully touches on some deeper topics in an encouraging, hope-filled way. I absolutely love these characters! Sonora is so sweet and kind and I was cheering her on from page one! And Graham is a totally swoon-worthy hero! I loved him to pieces! If you’re someone who doesn’t usually like billionaire heroes, don’t let that stop you from reading this book. Graham is not your typical billionaire and I have a feeling he’ll win your heart and perhaps change your mind about the trope as a whole! This book will give you all the best cozy Christmas vibes with just a hint of suspense. I adored every second of this story, and I loved how it ended! I also just have to say that I don’t very often find a book that is set in Vermont, where I live, but I love that this one is set here! I wish that Middlebrook and the Lockwood Lodge were real so I could go visit these characters! I also just have to say that I loved Sonora’s best friend, Blythe and I’m so hoping book 2 will be her story! Maid at Christmas warmed my heart and made me smile! Loved, loved, LOVED this book so much and I highly recommend it! If you’re looking for a book that feels like reading a Hallmark movie, but with more depth then definitely add this one to your Christmas TBR!
I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book from the author. My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own
I typically reserve my Christmas reads for the holiday season but there are books that intrigue me so much that I can’t wait to delve into them, which is exactly what happened with Maid at Christmas.
An annual gathering at Lockwood Lodge allows the upper echelon of society a week of total freedom. For one week every year each person that is invited is allowed total autonomy. This gives them time with no pressure and the freedom to just be themselves, which is exactly what Graham needs. As the week kicks off, Sonora is starting her new position at the lodge as a maid and is also trying to escape her past and start all over. What neither Graham nor Sonora expect is the instant spark that happens between the two strangers and how quickly that spark ignites a fire.
I am a sucker for a good meet-cute which is exactly what we get from Graham and Sonora, and it just gets more charming as the story progresses. It definitely gives a Hallmark-esque feel which I love, and the scenery is alluring in its depiction. All of the characters are inviting and relatable and it was easy to get lost in the narrative. I know one thing, it definitely put me in the holiday spirit, even if I am a little early this year.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
This was okay for me. Or maybe I just forced myself to finish. I liked the premise of the book but it didn’t execute as I would have liked. There were some slow parts. I felt like it was instalove where it just didn’t seem believable to me since I felt like there wasn’t as much depth. Some weird things: -during conversation sometimes the characters address each other by name every couple of lines, which isn’t normal in regular conversation. So that got annoying -Sonora had a thought about a side character after their nice conversation. “Married then-that made sense. He was such a warm person.” Being married isn’t an implication that you are a warm person. You can still be a jerk. -Sonora kept going back and forth hanging out with Graham after getting out of a toxic relationship which should have required some therapy or counseling? She wasn’t honest about who she was in the beginning. She wasn’t under the restriction regarding revealing her identity at the lodge. -Sonora explained Graham’s kiss tasted like white chocolate and cinnamon. I’m sorry, but when do kisses have flavors? Because I have never experienced that. - he loved her quick. Too quick. And it just didn’t seem like a believable situation to me
It’s easy to read, but it took awhile to get through even though it wasn’t a long book. Just wasn’t interested and I don’t recommend .
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
When you need to escape and start over, it’s nice to have a good friend who can help you recover and find a new identity. Sonora just wanted to disappear for a while so she could heal. She didn’t want to meet a handsome man who took her breath away. But when their friendship grew deeper, could she tell him the truth? Graham was just trying to slow down and enjoy his success without all the pressures. He didn’t want any more drama or lies in his relationships. Could he really let his heart trust what he was finding with Sonora? Oh, I totally enjoyed this book by Bell Renshaw. She’s an author I’m starting to become more drawn to. In this book, the dialogue and scene settings really helped to move the story along. She did a sweet job of bringing all the emotions of the characters to life. I loved the yummy descriptions of the hot cocoa bar and the combinations of flavors. My mouth was watering, and I wanted to have a cup myself. Hehe! If you’d like to read a book while drinking a mug of hot chocolate, this is the book for you!
Sonora seeks a new change and decides to leave New Orleans to work at Lockwood Lodge in Vermont. She takes up a housekeeping job there and bumps into Graham one night, over hot cocoa. Unknown to her, Graham is a billionaire who is there for a retreat while trying to complete a huge business deal.
While there is immediate chemistry between them, Sonora remains cautious due to her past relationship which has caused her to have trust issues. Similarly, Graham is wary as well but mistakenly thinks that Sonora is wealthy like him. When secrets are revealed, can their relationship still survive?
Besides the main romance plot, I loved the side story of Marcus and Blythe, who are both supportive and loyal friends to Graham and Sonora respectively. We all need someone to be there for us!
With Christmas coming real soon, this book is perfect for the season with vivid descriptions of snowy Vermont, the comfy ambience of the lodge and the festive mood all around town.
The story was really captivating read. The setting was so wonderful. It made me desire to be somewhere like that. So serene and relaxing.
Seonora and Graham characters were amazing. I could relate with their desire to start afresh and hibernate. In more ways than one they were both looking for a fresh start deviod of the tethers of their lives and they actually found it in the Lockwood cabins and with each other.
This story shows me how God guides us to find the good that we are looking for and more.
This is the first Christmas themed book I am reading this year and with this I can see my Christmas reads are off to a good start.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
This sweet new Christmas romance was a meaningful and cozy read. Written by pen name Bell Renshaw (who is also @emiliehaney and @createexploreread) it is pitched as Maid in Manhattan meets Safe Haven and that felt like an accurate description!
This is a romance that felt very grounded and that I could see playing out in real life. If you don’t prefer the hijinks of romcoms this would be more your speed. The healthy communication and processing of feelings was great to see.
The Vermont lodge setting was very cozy and brought all the wintery Christmas vibes. This book definitely makes you crave hot cocoa and I had to make the maple butterscotch cocoa one of the characters loves ☺️.
Trigger/content warnings: abusive relationship (thoughtfully handled). Steam level is kissing.
Maid at Christmas is a nice, quick read full of heart. With a backdrop of wintery Vermont and all the charm of a lodge at Christmas, this story has all the enjoyable atmosphere of a sweet, holiday read perfect for a fall or winter day...unless you're one of those people who love Christmas and romance any time of the year.
I definitely recommend Maid at Christmas to adult, and some older teen, readers who enjoy Hallmark-style happy endings with relatable characters and real-world struggles. You'll love Sonora, wanting the very best for her, and Graham will fill a niche in your heart too!
This has all the sweet romance, holiday vibes, and feel-good coziness of a Hallmark special *plus* some actual character development (and minus the bad acting). I bought the love story from the very beginning and really enjoyed watching it unfold.
My only complaints are, one, that the dude was all “you LiEd to me?” when she never really did; she just didn’t correct an assumption he never communicated. But he got over it pretty quickly so that’s fine.
And, two, I’m now salty that I have no hot cocoa bar to go relax at all day long. Someone please send me to a charming Vermont inn where I can read space operas and drink maple cocoa all day.
This was a captivating read that screams Hallmark Christmas vibes. Set in a snowy Vermont town, Maid at Christmas follows the story of Sorona, a temporary maid at Lockwood Lodge, and Graham, a billionaire. Both of them have arrived at Lockwood Lodge for a fresh start. I enjoyed the development of Graham and Sorona's relationship. This clean read has it all: light faith thread, light suspense, hidden identities, Hallmark Christmas vibes, romance, great characters, and a wonderful plot line.
I absolutely loved this Christmas romance! It even had some light suspense thrown in there that I wasn’t expecting but was pleasantly surprised! I seriously was up until 3am with this one. Sonora was super sweet and humble and has a heart for helping people. Graham is a high-tech billionaire, but when he lets his guard down he has a softness about him that is super sweet and playful. The lodge and small mountain town sounded so dreamy with the snow and Christmas decor. The retreat sounded amazing and I got a different perspective of what life might be like for the rich and big company owners. If you liked the movie “Maid in Manhattan” then you will definitely love this book.
The writing in this book was superb and I cannot wait to read more books by Bell Renshaw.
