Many years ago, the government used scientists to invent a device in secret, but the consequences of using it were too extreme. Some wanted it destroyed. Others wanted it out in the open.
When the device is discovered by Eliza, she sees into the mystery that’s haunted her past. Now, not only does she have to decide if she’s going to confront that past and solve the mystery of what happened to her father, risking her life in the process, but she also has to make up her mind if she’s finally ready to tell her best friend, Lydia, how she feels.
Concluding that the device is too dangerous to fall into the wrong hands, Eliza and Lydia put it where it could never be found, at the bottom of the ocean, only it finds its way into the hands of Rosie, a marine archaeologist, years later. Suddenly, Rosie is faced with a decision of her own. Should she give her ex the second chance she’s asking for or follow her heart in the direction of Felicity, who has been there for years without Rosie realizing that more could be between them?
With the device safely buried this time, Eliza, Lydia, Rosie, and Felicity leave thoughts of it behind, but when Violet discovers it in her backyard, she gets a vision of her distant future and the life she could have with a woman she’s never met. When that woman shows up in her life, Violet still has to wait for her because Rachel might not be ready for them to explore what Violet saw.
Each woman’s vision leads them to a chance at love they didn’t know they were looking for, but it also puts them in danger because there are people who want the device for themselves. Others want revenge for what it has cost them. Can these women uncover the origin of the device and get their happily-ever-after at the same time?
In this book, you’ll find four love stories, one device, and many secrets.
Nicole Pyland is a bestselling author of lesbian romance novels, including No After You, All the Love Songs, and the series like Chicago, San Francisco, Tahoe, Sports, Boston, and more. Since 2017, she’s published over 30 novels (not including her What Happened After shorts), and more books are on their way!
Nicole grew up in Indiana, studying English & Film and then getting a MS in Behavior Analysis and moving to California, working by day as a Head of Training at a start-up. She lives with her wife and their opinionated cat, who spends his evenings helping her write stories by occupying half the chair.
Echoes by Nicole Pyland masterfully combines the elements of sci-fi and paranormal romance, weaving together four separate stories with the aid of a mysterious device. All the narratives agree the artifact should remain concealed because of its destructive power in the hands of the wrong people.
The story's unique challenges kept me engaged, along with the thought-provoking decisions made after observing the past, present, or future by the person who finds it.
I would recommend this book, especially those into sci-fi romance. I received an arc for an honest review.
I need more of these characters. All of the couples have fascinating stories. The Origin chapter nearly broke my heart. This is a definite must-read for everyone. It will keep you on the edge of your seat till the end. I LOVE THIS BOOK!
If you like spooky stories that don’t really scare you, but leave you with that wary, thrilling, questioning, and uneasy feeling, Echoes is the book for you!
I love sci-fi type books and was really looking forward to reading Echoes. While it wasn’t what I was expecting, I was surprised how much I really liked it. Echoes is a really cool book. I think it is a perfect story for this time of year. You’ve got some sweet love stories, a lil mystery, and some suspense. I loved the 8 main characters. I loved how each of their stories were completely different, but tied together so well it blew my mind. I loved how the details made me feel so immersed in the story it was like I was right there. I think that’s one of the best things Nicole Pyland does… she makes you feel like you are "in" the books she writes. I don’t care if you know nothing about the jobs/sports/situation the characters are in, you don’t seem to notice.
There’s enough of each story to satisfy, but leaves you feeling like maybe there could have been more. (We always want more) Personally I hoped there’d be an epilogue at the end with Daphne and Iris. I know the book ended with them, but I wished we got a little more from them.
Overall, this is a book you're going to want to get your hands on (or downloaded on your kindle) especially if you’re a fan of Pyland’s The Meet Cute Café and/or Future Wife.
I am not typically into sci-fi/paranormal, but from Nicole I will read anything and I was not disappointed. The story kept me engaged and had me turning page after page. The different layers of romance is really what tied it together for me. Plus childhood best friends turned lover second chances are my weakness. I recommend this read to anyone, lover of sci-fi or not.
I honestly don't know what to say. This book was...incredible! Echoes is a real page turner and is just as good, if not, BETTER than Nicole Pyland's 'Future Wife'.
Echoes is a story about a device that helps to bring about the love stories of 3 different couples while also telling the story of the 2 women that created it.
The first story is about the Past and follows best friends turned lovers: Eliza and Lydia. One has to overcome a past trauma while the other stands by, patiently waiting for the woman she loves. The device forces them both to admit their true feelings towards one another.
The second story is about the Present or more appropriately named: a choice between two paths that could take place depending on a certain decision made at that time. The one that needs to make the choice is Rosie who is shown her two paths, not really knowing, if/how her choice directly impacts the life of her (potential) love interest Felicity.
Then there's the story about the Future. A woman named Violet is shown a vision from the device about her future wife and death - she uses the information to find the woman in the present and they start on a journey to make that future timeline a reality.
And lastly, the story that started it all. Diane and Iris. Their story was seriously the most confusing and interesting (in my opinion). Diane and Iris are basically responsible, not only for creating the device that helps the other women find their true love - but are also the reason that the device doesn't work as originally planned.
The device is never named nor is its full function ever explained but I feel that those details don't take away from the story but make it more mysterious and addicting. I would have liked more information about Diane and Iris since their story (especially the Origin ending) felt kind of rushed and confusing.
Other than that, if you like science fiction and romance then this is the book for you. It's a real page turner from the very first page. 10/10 recommend and would read again.
Echoes was another great book from Nicole Pyland. I enjoyed the mix of paranormal and sci-fi that was woven throughout the 4 stories in the book. The first 3 stories Past, Present and Future are about 3 different couples who stumble across this device that they each accidently activate which shows them a glimpse of what was, what is and what will be. The 4th story Origin, is about the couple who were the creators of this device and how it came about. I appreciated how this book wasn’t predictable, and threw in some suspense and mystery along the way.
The only downside to this book is that I didn’t want each individual story to end, I would have loved to have seen each story as its own full length book. I really hope Nicole writes some more books along this line as this book and her book Future Wife have both been a nice intro to Sci-Fi and have made me want to read more books that delve a bit into that genre.
This is an interesting take on a device that sees past, present and future, but each is discovered by accident. Echoes tells four different love stories connected by a device no one should really have. Each couple gets a glimpse of things that seem to be important in their life, but don’t really understand why. In the end they do know that the gift they were given should not be left to be discovered because it could be used for bad purposes. I will admit I was more prepared to not like this book because the premise was far-fetched in my opinion, but found that I couldn’t put it down. The four different stories interweave together to have one conclusive end. It has beautiful characters, mystery, science, and love. As I said I couldn’t put it down.
I thoroughly enjoyed Nicole Pyland’s venture into the paranormal with her latest book Echoes. Think, If These Walls Could Speak meets the X-Files. Each story was well written and could easily stand on its own. Many gave me new knowledge of different industries and time periods. I found myself not wanting each sub-story to end and then equally enjoying the next story as I turned the page. I’m always impressed with the authors ability to write so many different genres, so well. You won’t regret picking this book.
I like this author and have loved some of her books. I have even enjoyed a couple that are more sci-fi than conventional romance. This however, just misses the mark for me. Four main couples are introduced serially, which leads to a lack of development of each couple’s story arc. I’d have preferred it if there had been fewer characters and a bit more focus. It’s not bad and the ‘device’ in this certainly encourages some interest, but as a whole, this just didn’t quite hang together well enough for me..
What an interesting way to write a book and bring in so many different elements. I truly enjoyed this book. There was alot of romance, some suspense and I don't know what you would even call it but supernatural comes to mind. There are 3 (4) stories in this book that all have one thing in common. The device. It brings them all together in one way or another and weather it's past, present, or future that the device helps them see, they all get to have their happily ever after.

Echoes is an entertaining paranormal romance. All three love stories are well written and flushed out. If you have any experience with falling in love with your best friend then you may relate more to one story than the others. Having said that though all three stories are unique and fun paranormal rides . So pick up Echoes and curl up some apple cider or spiced wine this spooky season.
Another amazing book by Nicole Pyland. The book follows multiple timelines and potential couples who are somehow connected to one device. I would love to see what happens with the characters in the future.
It was not the average romance novel and maybe it was also a bit strange. It was like four short love stories that were linked by a mysterious device that stayed a bit mysterious, so the ending still felt a little open to me.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I normally don’t read paranormal stories but I guess there’s a first for everything and I’m so glad I did because I really loved it! Another thing I really liked is that it almost feels like you got 4 mini stories that all wrap into one. So many great characters to fall in love with. Each one having there own story of how they find the love of their life and who doesn’t want a book filled of many HEA’s!! While it does give you a complete story and I believe this is a standalone, I kinda hope that we can get more.
Wow what a fantastic gripping story I loved all the main characters their connection was described beautifully and in so much depth making you feel apart of it all it's my favourite a highly recommend MUST READ congratulations
