John Bekker returns in First Light to face the toughest challenge of his career.
Hired by a man dying of cancer to locate the baby girl he gave up for adoption forty years ago, Bekker discovers the baby wasn't adopted but sold to a New York couple named Gertz. They named the child Sarah, and Sarah Gertz disappeared without a trace twelve years ago in Washington DC.
Bekker uncovers evidence linking Sarah Gertz to the powerful Senator Oliver Koch, who is the next candidate for Vice-President. Twelve years ago, Koch and Sarah had an affair that left her pregnant.
Bekker is convinced Koch had her murdered, but unless he can prove it, a murderer will be in the White House.
Al Lamanda was born and raised in The Bronx, New York. He worked for many years as a private investigator and crime prevention specialist. He has authored five published novels, two feature films with another under option and more than a dozen books for Kindle.
I received this book through Goodreads First Reads.
A well written story filled with a lot of humor and likable supporting characters. I rooted for John Bekker to catch the bad guy through out the entire book and then was surprised at how it all ended. I have not read any of the other books that involve Bekker but I would definitely check them out now after reading this novel.
A SOLID 4 star read- and I love this series so much - I'd like to make it a 4.5! This is the 3rd in a great , fun, series..... These are very fast reads- Think Robert B. Parker- Jesse Stone series
Take the time and pick up Sunset which is the very first book in this series- you won't be sorry- !!---These books are police / private eye type books- with a great cast of characters- I can only hope that Al Lamanda will be writing more of this series!!
I can't stop reading. I love the John Bekker Series. They have me engrossed from the very first chapter. These should become movies. Please make a movie.
Fast and fun read. Thriller from page 1 to page 312. I will definitely read more of his books. This was the first one I read even though it says it is a sequel.
I enjoyed this #3 John Bekker mystery enough to add #1 and #2 to my TBR list. Bekker is a classic ex-cop with a trauma-filled past, recovering from an alcohol addiction. He's now a serious consumer of steaks on the grill, cigarettes, and donuts. The secondary characters are interesting and the plot well-drawn. The setting and some of the circumstances and characters reminded me a little of the Rockford Files (in a good way). I'll also be exploring some of Lamanda's other books/series. I like his writing style.
Another excellent tale of an unusual good guy and his interesting inquiries into puzzling situations where his casual but focused efforts win out in the end. Oliver Twist had nothing on Lamanda when it comes to convoluted essays that are a joy to read. Highly recommended.
Excellent; Continuing character: John Bekker; at his fiances request, Bekker takes on a job to assist a doctor find his daughter who he sold on the black market when she was a baby; political intrigue and murder follow
I have really enjoyed all three of the Bekker novels.I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, with a awesome main character, surrounded by a great cast of supporting players.Throw in humor to the mix and you have a great series.
