Swedish Noir at its finest.
Åre, Sweden. During an Easter weekend at a luxury mountain lodge, property developer Charlotte Wretlind is brutally stabbed to death in her suite. The investigation, led by local detectives Hanna Ahlander and Daniel Lindskog, quickly spirals into more violence. As the two detectives dig deeper, they uncover not only corrupt power players and hidden agendas but also painful memories that haunt both the case and the detectives themselves.
"Hidden in Memories" is book no. 3 in the Åre Murders series, which is now a Netflix adaptation as well. Viveca Sten crafts another chilling crime novel that feels unflinchingly realistic- the long waits for crime-scene techs, the exhaustion, the meddling press, and the emotional fallout all ring true, rather than feeling like the polished shortcuts of a glamorized police procedural. The book's dual timeline, set in 2021 and 1973 respectively, is particularly effective: the past isn't just a plot device but a source of generational trauma and a mirror for the present. Hanna and Daniel remain a strong detective duo that I’ve come to really like - they make a formidable team, complementing each other perfectly, though Hanna's pining for Daniel occasionally veers into the annoying for me.
The audiobook, narrated by Laura Jennings, brings the story to life with a quiet intensity. Jennings nails the Scandinavian setting, but her voice is sometimes too soft-spoken and airy for the often brutal story, which occasionally clashes with its emotional weight and darker moments. Still, the tension builds effectively, and her performance evokes both the bleak, snowy landscape and the emotional toll on the characters.
Dark and complex, "Hidden in Memories" offers a tantalizing murder mystery underscored by sharp social insight and emotional depth, layered with poignant commentary on violence against women and the long-reaching effects of trauma that echo through generations. For longtime readers of the Åre Murders series, it delivers a formidable continuation; for newcomers, it works well as a standalone, providing enough background to find your bearings without spoiling earlier books.

Hanna, a Swedish police officer, is called to the scene of a grisly murder. A wealthy businesswoman, Charlotte, has been stabbed repeatedly in her luxury hotel room. Charlotte was embroiled in controversy over her desire to demolish an old hotel and build a deluxe tourist destination, which many locals didn't want. Then a hotel maid is murdered, and Hanna and her colleague Daniel are convinced that the crimes are related. When the deceased woman's son is kidnapped, Hanna finds herself in the role of hostage negotiator with a killer who has nothing to lose. This exciting police procedural, excellently translated by Marlaine Delargy, is recommended to fans of Nordic Noir. Verborgen in het verleden is het derde deel in de Are moorden reeks van Viveca Sten. Ditmaal krijgen Hanna en Daniel een moord voorgeschoteld op een rijke zakenvrouw. Ze wordt vermoord aangetroffen in een chique hotelkamer en lijkt wel wat mensen tegen zich in het harnas gejaagd te hebben. Ze had immers plannen om in de buurt zelf een luxehotel uit de grond te stampen. De vraag rijst dus of haar dood iets te maken had met deze plannen of dat er nog andere motieven spelen.
Intussen leert de lezer de hoofdpersonages Daniel en Hanna nog beter kennen. Hanna heeft het moeilijk met haar verliefdheid jegens Daniel. Hij heeft een gezin en is dus onbereikbaar. Daniel zelf worstelt nog steeds met woedeaanvallen en gaat bij een therapeut langs om de oorzaken aan te pakken. Er is in dit boek ook wat meer ruimte weggelegd voor Daniel’s vrouw. Deze stukken vond ik heel fijn om te lezen omdat ze ook een jonge moeder is en ik soms overeenkomsten zag.
Doorlopend zijn er ook een paar hoofdstukken die de lezer een hel eind terug de tijd invoeren naar het begin van de jaren 70. We lezen er over een jonge serveerster die net aan de slag gaat in een luxehotel. Aanvankelijk is het wat onduidelijk hoe dit in het geheel past, maar later wordt alles duidelijk.
Het onderzoek zelf focust op enkele verdachten en geeft ook inzicht in de rouwverwerking van de zoon van het slachtoffer. Het plot is goed gevonden, brengt alles mooi samen en doet alweer uitkijken naar het vierde deel.
Het verhaal is zoals we gewend zijn van Viveca Sten, opnieuw zeer spannend en meeslepend. Daniel en Hanna zijn een goed team en interessante personages om over te lezen. Het feit dat Hanna in het geheim liefde koestert voor haar collega maakt het ook op dat vlak spannend! Ik heb genoten van verborgen in het verleden en geef het graag 4 sterren.

Vermutlich habe ich einfach schon zu viele Mysterys/Thriller gelesen, und leider muss ich sagen, sticht dieser aus der Masse nicht heraus. Der Fall war spannend und man wird auch von der Atmosphäre gefangen genommen, jedoch konnte ich mich mit dem Schreibstil nicht recht anfreunden, außerdem waren die unzähligen POV's für meinen Geschmack ein paar zu viele. Für gewöhnlich mag ich es gerne, wenn die Charaktere voll ausskizziert sind und noch Neben-Plotlines verfolgen und ein "Privatleben" haben, jedoch nimmt das in diesem Band doch fast schon überhand. War im Allgemeinenen betrachtet ganz okay, jedoch wohl einfach nichts für mich.

Har älskat de tidigare böckerna i serien men denna levde inte upp till mina förväntningar. Svårt att komma in i den, spretar för mycket och en del saker känns för osannolika.

Number 3 in the Are Murders series has Detective Inspectors Hanna Ahlander and Daniel Lindskog and their team investigating the brutal death of Charlotte Wretlind, a successful business woman who was attacked in a hotel in the Swedish ski resort of Are.
Set against a beautifully snowy but menacingly quiet landscape, there are numerous suspects for the murder as Charlotte was a very unpopular woman. Many locals are angry about her plans to demolish and rebuild a luxury hotel in the nearby town of Storlien, fearing it will increase unwanted tourism. There are also several other people with personal grievances against the victim and rumours that she might have been involved in some dishonest business deals.
Ahlander and Lindskog have their work cut out in finding the perpetrator and the plot is twisty enough to keep the reader fully engaged in the story. There are also more insights into the personal lives of the members of the police team which provide further interest. The burgeoning relationship between the two DIs is particularly intriguing as the series moves along.
The reveal of the murderer was a surprise to me but I did think the ending, generally, was a little overlong. There was an opportunity for the author to provide a sharper finish instead of the messy rambling conclusion which I won't say anything more about here (spoiler alert) but didn't, I feel, add anything of note to the story.
I've given the book a 3 star rating (Good rather than Great). It's well worth a read for crime fans, especially those who like a Scandinavian setting. It can be read as a standalone novel, but the reader will probably get more from the series if the books are read in order given the development of the characters and the opportunity to become familiar with them.

Vlak voor Pasen wordt een succesvolle zakenvrouw dood aangetroffen in haar hotelsuite in Åre. Ze is bruut vermoord. Daniel Lindskog en Hanna Ahlander worden op de zaak gezet. Het slachtoffer blijkt banden te hebben met het ooit beroemde maar nu vervallen berghotel in Storlien.
Maar Daniel en Hanna hebben veel aan hun hoofd. Daniel is begonnen met therapie om zijn woede onder controle te krijgen, terwijl Hanna wanhopig probeert haar emoties de baas te blijven. Samen gaan ze een onderzoek in vol wendingen en pijnlijke jeugdherinneringen.

Vervolgens lees je ook weer veel over hoofdpersonages Hanna en Daniel. Ook hun privésituaties komen regelmatig aan bod. Samen werken ze aan deze brute moordzaak en gaan ze op zoek naar de dader.
Ondertussen lees je ook meer over het dodelijke slachtoffer en er komt bepaalde informatie boven water. Echter weten Hanna en Daniel nog steeds niet goed in welke richting ze het precies moeten zoeken. Verschillende verdachten komen namelijk voorbij.
Viveca weet ook de omgeving en sfeer heel goed te omschrijven en dit zorgde voor een fijne beleving. Hanna en Daniel waren wederom interessante personages om te volgen en hun persoonlijke issues zorgden ervoor dat je je als lezer extra betrokken voelde.
Het is een redelijk dik boek, dus het kan soms ietwat traag aanvoelen. Het begin vond ik in ieder geval ontzettend goed en ik was benieuwd naar de verdere ontwikkelingen.
Dit is zeker weer een boeiend deel om te lezen en ik wil @lsuitgeverij / @lsthrillers heel erg bedanken voor het recensie-exemplaar!

This Swedish Nord Noir delivered exactly what I was looking for. Hannah, the detective, felt like a fully realized person — strong but with vulnerabilities that made her easy to understand. She navigates a world filled with darkness, and her journey felt real and raw throughout the story. The book tackled tough subjects head-on, showing not just deaths but deep injustices from the past, and how those wounds still affect people today. That heaviness gave the story real weight and seriousness.
The way the story moved between past and present didn’t feel forced at all. Instead, it showed how the past seeps into the present in ways that aren’t always obvious but are very powerful. The characters carried scars — both emotional and physical — and their pain wasn’t glossed over. It felt honest and unflinching, which made the whole story hit harder.
The mood was classic Nordic noir — dark, tense, and atmospheric. But this wasn’t just a crime story. It was about the emotions underneath it all: the sadness, the anger, and the quiet fights for justice that often go unnoticed. The tension wasn’t only about catching a killer, but about confronting what has been hidden for too long.
The relationships between the characters felt layered and complicated. I could see how history shaped them, how their decisions were affected by things that happened long ago. It felt like everything was connected, and that connection made the mystery more than just a puzzle to solve — it was about the human cost behind it.

Die vermögende Charlotte Wretlind kommt nach Åre, um ein verlassenes Luxushotel in der Nähe durch einen spektakulären Neubau zu ersetzen und den alten Glanz wieder aufleben zu lassen. Noch bevor sie dies in einer Pressekonferenz verkünden kann, wird sie brutal erstochen. Die Polizisten Hanna und Daniel stellen schnell fest, dass Charlotte keine Menschenfreundin war und so einige Leute schlecht auf sie zu sprechen waren. Ob diese Antipathien für ein Mordmotiv reichen?
So fand ich’s:
Je länger das bewährte Team Hanna, Daniel, Raffe und Anton ermittelt, desto mehr Spuren tun sich auf und weisen auf Leute, die von Charlottes Tod profitieren. Der Mord geschah in einem riesigen Hotel mit vielen Angestellten und Gästen und schon die schiere Anzahl der Personen überwältigt das Ermittlerteam. Und bevor sie alle Mitarbeiter und Gäste befragen konnten, wird eine zweite Frau getötet. Hätte sie der Polizei entscheidende Hinweise geben können?
Ich mag die winterliche Atmosphäre im Skiort Åre, das knisternde Kaminfeuer, den Pulverschnee und die Tatsache, dass ich vom kuschelig warmen Sofa aus von eiskalten Füßen und Schneeflocken im Bart lesen kann. Das alte, verfallene Hotel war früher ein Glanzstück der Region. Nun erzählt man sich Gruselgeschichten und Ereignisse aus früheren Zeiten, die wir in kleinen Rückblicken erleben. Man bekommt auch Einblicke ins Privatleben von Hanna und ihren männlichen Kollegen, das bei den aktuellen Ermittlungen wieder mal überall zu kurz kommt. Das Ermittlerteam hat seine kleinen oder großen Sorgen, die sich durch alle Bände dieser Reihe ziehen. Dadurch habe ich die vier Ermittler schon ganz gut kennengelernt, allen voran Hanna und Daniel, und weil ich alle vier sympathisch und interessant finde, ist das auf jeden Fall ein Grund mehr, dieser Reihe treuzubleiben.
Die Mordermittlung hätte einerseits ein bisschen zügiger gestaltet werden können, ich fand zum Beispiel die entscheidende Schlussepisode im Hochgebirgshotel wirklich (vielleicht einen Hauch zu) ausführlich, andererseits mag ich die typisch skandinavische, ruhige und atmosphärische Art zu erzählen sehr gern. Der Lesesog hat locker gereicht um mich flott durch die Handlung zu treiben.
Auch wenn mich der zweite Band “Tief im Schatten” ein bisschen mehr gefesselt hat, überzeugt mich auch dieser dritte Teil so, dass ich wieder eine Höchstwertung vergebe. Diese Reihe ist genau mein Geschmack und ich freue mich schon auf die nächsten Bände!

Ich mag die winterliche Atmosphäre im Skiort Åre, das knisternde Kaminfeuer, den Pulverschnee und die Tatsache, dass ich vom kuschelig warmen Sofa aus von eiskalten Füßen und Schneeflocken im Bart lesen kann. Das alte, verfallene Hotel war früher ein Glanzstück der Region. Nun erzählt man sich Gruselgeschichten und Ereignisse aus früheren Zeiten, die wir in kleinen Rückblicken erleben. Man bekommt auch Einblicke ins Privatleben von Hanna und ihren männlichen Kollegen, das bei den aktuellen Ermittlungen wieder mal überall zu kurz kommt. Das Ermittlerteam hat seine kleinen oder großen Sorgen, die sich durch alle Bände dieser Reihe ziehen. Dadurch habe ich die vier Ermittler schon ganz gut kennengelernt, allen voran Hanna und Daniel, und weil ich alle vier sympathisch und interessant finde, ist das auf jeden Fall ein Grund mehr, dieser Reihe treuzubleiben.
Die Mordermittlung hätte einerseits ein bisschen zügiger gestaltet werden können, ich fand zum Beispiel die entscheidende Schlussepisode im Hochgebirgshotel wirklich (vielleicht einen Hauch zu) ausführlich, andererseits mag ich die typisch skandinavische, ruhige und atmosphärische Art zu erzählen sehr gern. Der Lesesog hat locker gereicht um mich flott durch die Handlung zu treiben.
Auch wenn mich der zweite Band “Tief im Schatten” ein bisschen mehr gefesselt hat, überzeugt mich auch dieser dritte Teil so, dass ich wieder eine Höchstwertung vergebe. Diese Reihe ist genau mein Geschmack und ich freue mich schon auf die nächsten Bände!

Betyg: 4 av 5 - Den här boken, Botgöraren, är den tredje boken i bokserien Åremorden. Jag har även läst dom två tidigare böckerna i serien, och jag har också läst alla dom tio böckerna i bokserien Morden i Sandhamn. Jag har tyckt om alla böckerna, och Viveca Sten tillhör en av dom författare som jag alltid läser böckerna av. Kan absolut rekommendera den här boken, precis som alla hennes tidigare böcker.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller read! I liked this one better than the second book, but not as much as the first. I love this Swedish mystery series🥰
this book follows a rich developer who is murdered in a luxury hotel. Hanna and Daniel race against time to figure out who did it. I liked the “past” timeframe aspect in the book which connected with the book overall.
I can’t wait for the 4th book next year :)

I enjoyed this, but it was another part of a series I have never even heard of, which I tend to avoid for obvious reasons. Overall though, it was okay.

”Botgöraren” är den tredje och senaste delen i Åremorden-serien av Viveca Sten. Även denna bok har jag sträcklyssnat på. Det här är en riktigt bra story, berättad i högt tempo, med dramatik och karaktärers levnadshistorier som fångar mitt intresse. Jag tycker det är minst lika intressant att följa utredningen och jakten på den skyldige som att följa utredarna Hannas, Daniels och Antons privata liv. Det här är en serie jag gillar och absolut kan rekommendera.

A disappointing read, especially as I usually thoroughly enjoy novels by Viveca Sten.
This story seemed a bit like a mystery by numbers, trying to include various themes, none of which was succsesful.
There was no character development, in fact most of the characters were very one dimensional.
The three romantic sub plots, were a complete distraction from the main story, and the fact that none of them was concluded, made them a waste of time.
Hopefully the next book in the series will be up to her normal standards.

Complex and Enjoyable Third Novel in the Åre Mystery Series
Aada Kuus is a cleaner at the Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Åre, Sweden. She is cleaning a room when she hears a noise from the Silver Suite next door. Then, she hears moaning and a crash like a lamp hitting the floor. The noises sound like when her father hit her mother. She goes to the door but is frozen in fear. She cracks open the door and recoils when a man rushes out of the Silver Suite, clutching a shiny, bloodstained object. His cap is pulled well down over his forehead, and a black mask covers his mouth and nose. Aada can see only his burning eyes. She closes the door and freezes again. She is afraid that he will come after her.
This novel consists of four threads. The first is the investigation into Charlotte Wretlind’s murder. This thread is narrated mainly by Detectives Ahlander and Lindskog, with other officers narrating a few chapters. The second thread is a flashback that tells Monica's story about her first job as a waitress at a mountain hotel in Storlien. This thread provides a critical piece of information for understanding this novel. The murderer is the focus of the third thread. Wretlind’s son and business partner narrate the last thread, providing their actions after they arrive in Åre.
Wretlind was about to announce a major hotel complex in nearby Storlien. Her death brought much political pressure to have it solved quickly. Their boss, who works in Östersund, is now conducting the daily briefings in Åre. As the investigation progresses, it stalls because they must identify or find several potential suspects. Then another death occurs, ratcheting up the pressure. If professional pressure is not enough, Ahlander and Lindskog's personal lives are also problematic. To understand the main storyline, the novel is narrated by many voices. This aspect did not confuse me but gave me a clearer view not only of the investigation but also of the victim, her family, several potential suspects, and the perpetrator. This aspect gave me an excellent picture of the whole story, much of which the investigation does not yet know. Needless to say, my attention was locked in to continue reading.
The background and B-storylines in this novel were particularly enjoyable. Like the author’s Sandhamn Murder series, multiple B-storylines cover more than just the protagonists. First is Ahlander’s infatuation with her partner. The second starts when someone else becomes interested in her. The third is the relationship between Lindskog and his wife. Within this thread, there are subthreads for each of them, providing more information about their relationship than either of them knows. The last thread deals with Lundgren, a colleague of Ahlander and Lindskog. In the previous novel, Lundren ended a romantic relationship due to a conflict of interest with the current investigation. The investigation in this novel brings them back together without the problem that had divided them. The depth and breadth of these B-storyline threads enriched my reading experience.
Aspects that can cause readers to stop reading are present in this novel. There is one crime against a woman. Otherwise, there are no other intimate scenes. For language, vulgar language is basically limited to f-bombs. Rude and impious language is a little more frequent. Much of the violence is portrayed in an edgier way as it occurs, but mostly does not rise above the primetime TV level. I felt that all references to events in prior novels were adequately explained so that this book could be read first. I found reading this novel on my e-reader convenient because of easy Internet access. I looked up the various locations mentioned in the novel, which helped me understand where they are.
The only downside of this novel was the ending. For me, it was a little bittersweet. I did have a little sympathy for the perpetrator. On the upside, I liked that Ahlander is more of a team player in this novel. Her conducting her own investigations, which was prevalent in the first novel, is gone in this one. I also liked the numerous B-stories that extended beyond the two protagonists, making for a very rich read. In the main storyline, there were no loose ends. My reading experience with this author is two previous Åre Murders and half of the Sandhamn Murders series. She is one of my Must-Read authors. I highly recommend reading this novel. I am also pleased that the fourth novel in his series has begun appearing on e-commerce sites. I rate this novel with five stars.

Rechercheurs Daniel Lindskog en Hanna Ahlander krijgen de zaak toegewezen. Al snel leidt het onderzoek naar een ooit prestigieus, inmiddels vervallen berghotel in Storlien. Een plek waar oude geheimen onder het ijs verborgen liggen. Terwijl de aanwijzingen zich opstapelen, worstelen Daniel en Hanna ieder met hun eigen demonen. Daniel probeert in therapie zijn woede onder controle te krijgen, terwijl Hanna vecht tegen emoties die haar dreigen te overspoelen.
Wanneer het verleden zich onverbiddelijk met het heden verweeft, wordt duidelijk dat sommige wonden nooit echt zijn geheeld. Een duistere thriller vol onverwachte wendingen, verstikkende spanning en pijnlijke jeugdherinneringen die liever begraven waren gebleven.
Mijn ervaring:
Wat een tof, pakkend en meeslepend vervolg. Viveca Sten weet mijn hoge verwachtingen voor dit derde deel moeiteloos waar te maken. Opnieuw is dit een echte pageturner, met korte en krachtige hoofdstukken. Het verhaal leest vlot, is levendig en beeldend geschreven en zit vol verrassende en krachtige twists en wendingen.
De personages vormen opnieuw de grote kracht van het verhaal. Daniel Lindskog en Hanna Ahlander zijn inmiddels vertrouwde gezichten en worden door de verschillende delen heen, naast de moordzaken, steeds verder uitgediept in hun privéleven. Deze ontwikkeling zorgt ervoor dat je echt met beide rechercheurs meeleeft. Doordat je een compleet beeld krijgt van hun leven, voelen ze menselijk en levensecht aan. Dit geeft het verhaal bovendien een sterke psychologische gelaagdheid: Daniels woedeproblematiek en Hanna’s emotionele kwetsbaarheid zijn geloofwaardig en indringend beschreven.
Viveca Sten bouwt het verhaal rustig en zorgvuldig op. Met een pakkende en spannende proloog wekt ze direct nieuwsgierigheid en spanning. In het juiste tempo laat ze de mysteries zich ontvouwen. De afwisseling tussen heden en verleden is mooi gedaan en deze verhaallijnen vloeien gaandeweg steeds meer in elkaar over. Ondanks het beheerste tempo weet Sten je als lezer voortdurend te prikkelen door onverwachte gebeurtenissen en slimme wendingen. Je wordt actief meegenomen in het puzzelen en blijft nieuwsgierig naar de ontknoping. Naarmate het plot dichterbij komt, loopt de spanning voelbaar op en werkt het verhaal toe naar een krachtig hoogtepunt dat je met ingehouden adem volgt.

Atmosphärischer Schweden-Krimi

Wenn man mich nach Empfehlungen für Autor*innen aus Schweden fragt, wird ein Name immer mit als erstes fallen: Viveca Sten. Sten begleitet mich mit ihren Krimis nun schon viele Jahre. Von der Sandham-Reihe bin ich ihr, ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken an den Polarkreis gefolgt – und auch hier hat Sten mich bisher nicht enttäuscht. Die ersten beiden Bände waren für mich bereits fünf Sterne-Krimis. Jetzt erscheint mit BLUTBUße der mittlerweile dritte Band der Reihe. Auf den neuen Fall für Kommissarin Hanna Ahrlander habe ich mich im Vorfeld schon riesig gefreut.

Darum geht’s: Charlotte Wretlind wird in ihrem Hotelzimmer erstochen. Die Immobilienentwicklerin hatte im Skigebiet Åre ein neues Luxushotel geplant – sehr zum Missfallen der Anwohner…

Was mag ich nun an Stens Krimis? All das, was sie auch diesmal wieder zuverlässig liefert. Fangen wir mit ihrem Schreibstil an, der einfach so flott und flüssig ist, dass er mich mit kurzen Kapiteln wieder einmal leichtgängig durch über 500 Seiten führt. Wenn ich ein Buch von Viveca Sten zur Hand nehme, schlage ich es auf und bin direkt in der Geschichte. Das Setting und die Atmosphäre sind so bildhaft und eindrücklich beschrieben, dass ich gefühlt mittendrin bin. So auch in BLUTBUße. Ich finde mich umgeben von Schnee in einer überfüllten Hotellobby wieder. Die Stimmung ist gereizt. Die perfekte Ausgangslage, um zügig einen Mord geschehen zu lassen. Der Krimi startet also gleich mal mit einer gehörigen Portion Nervenkitzel und Hochspannung.

Der Mord ruft die Ermittler Hanna Ahrlander und Daniel Lindskog auf den Plan. Zu den beiden habe ich in den ersten beiden Bänden der Reihe bereits eine gute Bindung aufbauen können. Ihr Privatleben nimmt neben dem Fall eine wichtige Rolle ein. Die Charaktere und ihre Geschichte werden wieder ein Stückchen weiterentwickelt. Ich bin jetzt schon neugerig, in welche Richtung es hier künftig noch gehen wird.

Damit komme ich jetzt mal zum eigentlichen Fall. Der Handlungsverlauf und das Spannungslevel sind typisch für einen Krimi. Ein zweiter Mord bringt die etwas vor sich hindümpelnden Ermittlungen nochmal einen entscheidenden Schritt voran. Außerdem wird mit dem Element eines Erzählstrangs in der Vergangenheit gearbeitet. Nur ganz kurz werden Informationen eingestreut, die sich zunächst nicht zuordnen lassen. Man hat halt nur diese Ahnung, dass es irgendwo einen Zusammenhang geben muss. Der wird dann auch hergestellt und der Fall schlüssig aufgelöst. Das passiert diesmal ohne nennenswerte Höhen und Tiefen. Auch der große Überraschungseffekt bleibt aus. Dafür entschädigt der Schlussteil nochmal mit einem rasanten Showdown.

Fazit: BLUTBUßE ist für mich nicht der beste und spannendste Krimi von Viveca Sten. Das gleicht sich aber aus, weil bei ihren Büchern einfach immer das Gesamtpaket stimmt. Wenn der Fall mich nicht restlos begeistern kann, lasse ich mich eben mehr in die Stimmung, Atmosphäre und/oder Entwicklung der Personen fallen. Das Zusammenspiel aller Komponenten ergibt für mich das große Ganze. Und das stimmt eben, so dass ich im Gesamtkontext der Reihe auch diesmal wieder zu einer 5 Sterne-Leseempfehlung komme.

Das Setting und die Atmosphäre sind so bildhaft und eindrücklich beschrieben, dass ich gefühlt mittendrin bin. So auch in BLUTBUße. Ich finde mich umgeben von Schnee in einer überfüllten Hotellobby wieder. Die Stimmung ist gereizt. Die perfekte Ausgangslage, um zügig einen Mord geschehen zu lassen. Der Krimi startet also gleich mal mit einer gehörigen Portion Nervenkitzel und Hochspannung.

Der Mord ruft die Ermittler Hanna Ahrlander und Daniel Lindskog auf den Plan. Zu den beiden habe ich in den ersten beiden Bänden der Reihe bereits eine gute Bindung aufbauen können. Ihr Privatleben nimmt neben dem Fall eine wichtige Rolle ein. Die Charaktere und ihre Geschichte werden wieder ein Stückchen weiterentwickelt. Ich bin jetzt schon neugerig, in welche Richtung es hier künftig noch gehen wird.

Damit komme ich jetzt mal zum eigentlichen Fall. Der Handlungsverlauf und das Spannungslevel sind typisch für einen Krimi. Ein zweiter Mord bringt die etwas vor sich hindümpelnden Ermittlungen nochmal einen entscheidenden Schritt voran. Außerdem wird mit dem Element eines Erzählstrangs in der Vergangenheit gearbeitet. Nur ganz kurz werden Informationen eingestreut, die sich zunächst nicht zuordnen lassen. Man hat halt nur diese Ahnung, dass es irgendwo einen Zusammenhang geben muss. Der wird dann auch hergestellt und der Fall schlüssig aufgelöst. Das passiert diesmal ohne nennenswerte Höhen und Tiefen. Auch der große Überraschungseffekt bleibt aus. Dafür entschädigt der Schlussteil nochmal mit einem rasanten Showdown.

Fazit: BLUTBUßE ist für mich nicht der beste und spannendste Krimi von Viveca Sten. Das gleicht sich aber aus, weil bei ihren Büchern einfach immer das Gesamtpaket stimmt. Wenn der Fall mich nicht restlos begeistern kann, lasse ich mich eben mehr in die Stimmung, Atmosphäre und/oder Entwicklung der Personen fallen. Das Zusammenspiel aller Komponenten ergibt für mich das große Ganze. Und das stimmt eben, so dass ich im Gesamtkontext der Reihe auch diesmal wieder zu einer 5 Sterne-Leseempfehlung komme.

Endlich geht die Reihe von Viveca Sten weiter und ich habe mich gefreut dieses Buch mit meinem Buddy zu lesen.
Auch hier wird die Geschichte aus verschiedenen Perspektiven erzählt, insbesondere aus der Sicht von Hanna und Daniel. Theoretisch würde ich sagen, dass man die Bücher unabhängig voneinander lesen kann in Bezug auf die Fälle , jedoch wird hier in diesem Buch viel über das Privatleben der beiden Ermittlern preisgegeben, was ich einerseits interessant fand, aber andererseits etwas zu viel des Guten fand. Dementsprechend würde ich die Bücher chronologisch lesen.
Wie immer haben wir hier wieder kurze Kapitel, man fliegt durch die Seiten und der Schreibstil ist wie immer gut.
Der Fall an sich ist spannend und interessant gewesen und mir hat es vor allem gefallen, dass man halt wusste, wer der Täter nicht ist und dass es eine unbekannte Person gegeben hat , wo man direkt wusste, dass dies der Täter ist, aber man bis zum Ende hin nicht die Zusammenhänge sehen konnte, sodass man Theorien aufstellen konnte. Denn ich habe ich anfangs die kursiven Kapiteln (aus der Sicht einer jungen Frau in der Vergangenheit) nicht wirklich in den Zusammenhang zum Täter greifen können. Man ist sich bewusst gewesen, dass es eine Verbindung gibt, aber ich bin nicht drauf gekommen welche.
Mein größter Kritikpunkt an der Geschichte ist jedoch, dass die Ermittlungen eher langsam vorangeschritten sind und es viel unnötiges "BlaBla" gegeben hat, was ich nicht gebraucht hätte und man meiner Meinung nach die Geschichte hätte kürzen können.
Nichtsdestotrotz ist es für mich ein spannender Krimi gewesen, der ein schlüssiges Ende hat und mir unterhaltsame Stunde bereichert hat. Ich kann euch diese Reihe weiterempfehlen und ich freue mich schon auf den vierten Band, da ich glaube, dass es da noch ungesagte Dinge gibt.

This is the third book in a series set in a Swedish ski resort town. DI Hanna Ahlander and DI Daniel Lindskog return to investigate the stabbing of a property developer at a luxury ski lodge. This story unfolds through two main timelines - one in 2021 and one in 1973. In the beginning of the book, A terrible act in 1973 leads to the events in 2021 and the author shifts seamlessly between the two timelines. Both timelines are interesting, but the current events are the most suspenseful.
I really enjoy the character of Hanna who is sometimes impulsive, but is an excellent and caring detective. She loves working with Daniel who she considers a friend, but she must also fight her attraction to him since he is married with a young child. The two of them balance each other out and make a great working team. The investigation into the stabbing kept my interest and the showdown at the end is tense and dramatic. This is another winner in a great series.

3.5 stars. I liked this more than book 1, and less than book 2. Good, entertaining and twisty plot. Characters that feel real; the killer has a motive that makes sense and in its way, understandable. This is sort of the epitome of Nordic noir. I could just do with less of the angsty romantic longings, and really didn’t think this needed to be 450 pages. Moves quickly at the end, the middle of the book is a bit of a slog. Great translation, unlike many, it works well and doesn’t feel stilted. Looking forward to book 4.

Med Forsoneren har Viveca Sten skrevet en bok det er utrolig vanskelig å legge fra seg. Det beste er kanskje karakterutviklingen og hvordan fortid og nåtid veves sammen.

Inte lika engagerande som de två tidigare. En del fånigheter. Den är ju verklighetsbaserad men jag tvivlar ändå på att poliser i verkligheten får för sig saker utan fakta bakgrund som sen visar sig vara rätt.

What a ride! After seeing the adaptation of this series, I’ve been wanting to get into all of the work of Viveca Sten. This story was a bit dark and had multiple points of view and a non-linear timeline.
I really became so engrained in the backstory of each character, but didn’t feel bogged down with information - it was just the right amount to keep me interested and guessing for what the outcome would be. The author plays up your stress levels as well as warming your heart. The dynamic between the characters is genuine and you do want the best for them, to find out more and to get to know them. It really shows how much getting a little information out of someone can really strengthen a relationship.
There wasn’t a ton of jumping back and forth in timelines, but enough to get you a full picture to understand motives and feelings.
I will be looking more into Sten’s other works and want to see what’s next in this series as well!
