A few words that immediately come to mind after reading this book:

Gritty
Sexy
Horrific
Thrilling
Disturbed

Set in the 70's, this book takes us on a gripping ride as we follow young Emilia as she sets out into the big wide world to become famous, by any means necessary. Women want to be her and men adore her.

This novel is gritty and dark and is not for the faint of heart. This is not a story with a happy ending, well maybe it is, it depends on which definition we're using here... Yeah, I said it. Truthfully, although the backdrop is the 70's porn industry, the spicy parts are pretty mild. The violence, less so.

If you're looking for a gripping, soul wrenching, chilling, murderous, passionate thriller with a love story (or two) molded in, then this book is for you. Entirely unputdownable.

Can't wait to read what Adam writes next!

Adam Lewis’s Super 8 is a masterful plunge into the shadowy abyss of fame and obsession, demonstrating once again why Lewis is a standout voice in the thriller genre. With a narrative as mesmerizing as it is chilling, this novel propels readers into the glittering yet treacherous world of 1970s adult film stardom, guided by a tale that is as thrilling as it is thought-provoking.

From the first page, Lewis sets a tone of palpable tension and intrigue, immersing us in the glamorous life of Natasha, a captivating icon whose fame casts a long and dangerous shadow. Natasha's existence seems like a flawless dream, yet beneath the surface, an insidious threat looms large. Lewis’s portrayal of Natasha is both exquisite and haunting; her beauty and fame are juxtaposed against the backdrop of an ever-encroaching nightmare, making her plight all the more compelling.

The novel’s strength lies in its ability to intertwine reality with fantasy, blurring the lines in a way that keeps readers on edge. The malevolent stalker’s obsession is portrayed with unnerving realism, making the reader feel the fear and uncertainty that Natasha endures. Lewis’s skillful narrative craft ensures that each page is laden with suspense, leading to a crescendo of dread that is both exhilarating and chilling.

Lewis’s vivid portrayal of the 1970s era adds an authentic texture to the story, and his character development is nothing short of brilliant. Natasha’s journey through her own personal labyrinth of fear and desire is rendered with a depth that evokes empathy and tension in equal measure. The stark contrast between the public adoration she receives and the private terror she faces is handled with exceptional nuance.

Super 8 is more than just a thriller; it is a penetrating exploration of the dark side of celebrity and the harrowing consequences of unchecked obsession. Adam Lewis’s deft storytelling and atmospheric writing invite readers to not only engage with the suspense but to reflect on the nature of fame and the vulnerabilities it conceals.

In conclusion, Super 8 is a riveting read that reaffirms Adam Lewis’s prowess as a storyteller. It is a tale that grips the imagination, confronts the darkest facets of human desire, and delivers a thrilling ride that is both emotionally resonant and unnervingly suspenseful. For fans of psychological thrillers and those intrigued by the complexities of stardom, this novel is an absolute must-read.

Engaging and compelling

A chilling and riveting second thriller. The story follows our heroine as she faces a malevolent stalker whose dangerous obsession blurs the line between her public allure and private sanctuary. As reality and fantasy intertwine, a nightmarish story unfolds, propelling her into a harrowing journey where every step could lead to peril
The author masterfully crafts a tale of suspense and dread, painting a vivid picture of a world where the seduction of fame transforms into a treacherous snare, promising readers a heart-pounding experience through a labyrinth of fear and desire, highlighting the true cost of adulation
The book is well-written with realistic dialogue. It is provocative, with an adult theme. The characters are thoughtfully constructed. However, some extra development and nuance could enhance the story. Despite this, the novel delivers a compelling psychological narrative that kept me engaged throughout.

This e-book was sent to me by LibraryThing and Adam Lewis.

We all need a little bit of pulp in our lives. Life is hard and getting harder, and the day-to-day is often enough to drag me down. Add to that all the depressing stuff I read and watch, and injecting some easy to read, simple words is sometimes what I need to regain my energy. Super 8 is pure pulp.

This book is what it is, no more and no less. In under 180 pages, Lewis told a story. He didn't waste a single word, didn't add any unneccesary side stories just to make the book longer, and there's no hidden meanings or confusing twists. Sure, there's also no real character depth or development, and the first and last chapters were silly, but perfection is hard to find, even in this genre.

Super 8 tells the story of a young woman who has escaped poverty and desolation and made her way to Hollywood to be a star. She ends up being the hottest porn star on a generation, falling madly in love with a seemingly good dude, and has the world at her fingertips. Unfortunately, a psychopath's (who happens to run the projectors at a porn theater (it's the '80s)) obsession with her leads us down a dark road.

This is a great book for a long flight or rainy day when you just want to block out the world and get wrapped up in a story that has nothing to do with you or real life. This type of book will hopefully never make up the majority of what I read, but I'll also never give them up.

Super 8 by Adam Lewis is an absolute page-turner that grips you from the first page and doesn’t let go. The story, told as a flashback, follows actress Emilia’s journey from a small town to the gritty and glamorous world of the 1970s porn industry. Along the way, she experiences success, love, and the terrifying reality of being the target of a stalker-turned-psychopath.

Lewis masterfully immerses readers in this evocative and controversial setting, with its smoky lounges, seedy studios, and neon-lit streets brought vividly to life through his sensory-rich descriptions. Emilia is a determined and relatable protagonist, striving to succeed despite her insecurities. While the story features moments of violence, they are handled tastefully, avoiding gratuitous detail.

The subplot involving the psychopath is chilling, and while I wanted to find some sympathy for him, his irredeemable nature made that impossible. One of the book’s strengths is the way it intertwines the lives of Emilia, Rick, and Karl. However, I did wish the connections between their stories had been revealed earlier, as the suspense of waiting for them to converge felt prolonged.

Overall, Super 8 is a captivating read with well-drawn characters and a vivid sense of place. Lewis’s ability to weave tension and emotion throughout the narrative makes this a book worth reading.

DNF. Author claims to be critically acclaimed but their “award” came from an Indy site where you can pay for 4&5 star reviews. This is unethical and quite frankly, shady. The only reason I looked into the “award” was due to how badly this book had been edited, if edited at all. The book felt like it was written by a 15 year old boy, one unfamiliar with proper syntax. The, “to be honest” and “haha’s” strewn about were akin to someone writing a brief post or texting. These inclusions were not used during dialogue so it was even more jarring and egregious. To be sure I was not being overly harsh, I had a friend read it. They found it equally bad. They agreed that claiming an award as prestigious, when given from an Indy site that you can pay to get good reviews on, was dishonest. So, it wasn’t just me.

Here is a small sample of the writing, for examples of why I rated it the way I did. There’s more, but this should suffice.

Sitting on the faded lime green sofa, with its worn, slightly tattered burgundy pillows, she sat. ***redundant, we already knew ahead of time that she was sitting.

When she wanted to start. ***this was a sentence.

Norma-Gean ***it’s Norma Jean

But for all the love she bore her mother, she also knew that she had no chance of becoming the woman she wanted to be with her in her life. ***what? Badly worded

And tossed her tiny purse on the chair as she leaped to her feet and headed for the illuminated dance floor with all its sweaty masses kicking out their best moves.***this was another “sentence.”

I wanted to love Super 8, but unfortunately, it left me underwhelmed. From the start, the writing felt repetitive—words like “faded” and “worn” are used twice in the span of two paragraphs, setting the tone for a lack of finesse. The style is overly explanative and devoid of emotional depth, reading more like something generated by AI prompts than a story with soul.

The chapters are short and often end on uninspired notes, leaving little motivation to keep reading except for sheer curiosity about where the twisted paths of the characters might lead. The world-building is equally disappointing, offering minimal visual detail to immerse readers in the psychological states of the characters. Instead, it leans heavily on body language, which quickly becomes monotonous.

The characters themselves are difficult to believe. Emilia, for example, comes across as shallow and unconvincing, seemingly willing to follow any path that keeps her from poverty. Rick, on the other hand, is equally implausible; men in his position don’t typically drop everything for one young woman—they often juggle several.

The one redeeming element is Karl’s storyline, which explores the delusion and obsession of a stalker. It’s the most compelling aspect of the book, and honestly, I think a more fitting title would have been "How Stalkers Are Made."

Overall, Super 8 had potential, but its lackluster writing, flat world-building, and unconvincing characters made it a forgettable read.

“Super 8” by Adam Lewis was a page-turner. The story never lets up from the first page. I read it in one sitting on a rainy afternoon. Most of this story is written in the third person, which is done well and suits the scenes.

The story is a flashback to the years of an actress, Emilia/Natasha, as she moves from a small town to Hollywood. She finds herself heady with success, love, and the target of a psychopath.

Lewis’s writing is thoughtful. He has a gift for dialogue. There is violence, but it is not over-the-top graphic. The heroine is determined to succeed despite her insecurity. Despite his flaws, her love interest, Rick, is the one I rooted for the most. I wanted to feel sympathy for the psychopath, but he was irredeemable.

Lewis excels at descriptive writing. He is talented at making the reader visualize the scenes by incorporating all the senses. Hollywood, lounges, and the strip come alive.

I enjoyed curling up with this book. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer! I highly recommend this work, especially if you have free hours, because you will not want to put it down.

Super 8: A Psychological Thriller has an interesting storyline, but some mechanical issues and underdeveloped characters get in the way. Misplaced commas, random spelling mistakes, and formatting inconsistencies make it feel unpolished. While the main character has a solid backstory, the other characters don’t get much attention, so it’s hard to connect with them. The dialogue can feel awkward at times, which makes certain scenes come off as forced rather than natural.

The plot itself starts strong but doesn’t fully deliver. The first half moves slowly, bogged down by lengthy descriptions that don’t add much. Then suddenly, the pace picks up so quickly it feels like a completely different book. By Chapter 10, there’s a major twist that comes out of nowhere and is hard to buy into. These sudden shifts in pacing and tone left me feeling more confused than thrilled. Despite its flaws, the story did have enough psychological tension to keep me curious about what would happen next, but the errors and stiff character development took away from my overall experience.

Adam Lewis’s Super 8 proved a brilliant read. The book takes the readers into the dazzling yet treacherous world of 1970s adult film stardom; it delivers a chilling tale of the darker side of fame and glory. At the novel’s centre is Natasha, a celebrated icon whose outwardly perfect life is shattered by a malevolent stalker. The narrative reveals a great plot. Step by step, it dives into the sinister side of celebrity, where public adoration becomes a terrible trap , and where admiration suddenly turns into obsession.
Lewis’s ability to build suspense is out of the ordinary. He very subtly balances Natasha’s glamorous facade with her increasing terror. The language is here used as a keen tool to reinforce the feeling of foreboding. Attention to the detail, extensive but vivid descriptions and a mounting sense of dread keeps one hooked, to be sure, though the pace generally changes between fast and slow – which I personally like.
Overall, Super 8 is an unsettling – and thus, amazing – thriller. Highly recommend!

Super 8: A Psychological Thriller (by Adam Lewis) is an intense yet fast read that is hard to put down. The writing has a gritty, noirish, often over-the-top authenticity that fits the story perfectly. Even the dangling and unnecessary commas this reviewer noticed in the text seem to add to the off-the-cuff feel and immediacy of the narration by a rags-to-riches porn star of yesteryear. And the fictional narrator delivers the goods with such charming deadpan earnestness that the reader wonders if the writer’s tongue is actually in his cheek. And what a varied adventure, from the lives and dreams of denizens of the Seventies heyday of adult filmdom and the LA club scene to the inner and outer workings of a homicidal maniac whose deluded being has come to revolve around porn and his favorite star of the genre. Sure, the characters are walking, talking cliches — as well as doing more pruriently interesting things — but they hold their own in this delightfully melodramatic, movie-like story. So if you’re looking for a wildly entertaining, even campy read, give this one a try.

Super 8 starts with Emilia, an adult-film actress, who’s ready to tell the tale of her life. What follows is part Boogie Nights, part Fatal Attraction, as Emilia and her husband (and director) Rick ride the highs and dangers of a life of infamy.

This novel reads quickly, in a good way—Emilia and Rick’s chapters hit quick, like watching a fast-action noir film. It’s also very noir, or I should say punk, in its details: neon lights, lots of rain, dingy theaters juxtaposed with high-class Hollywood parties. It’s lives in the fast lane, fueled by indulgences that—as indulgences do—end up going too far.

A quarter of the way through the book is when we’re introduced to Karl, a lonely theater worker who adds a dangerous element to the story. Believing Emilia to be a woman from his past, he molds her in his mind in to the perfect idol, his addiction to her fueling a lot of the conflict of the story.

If you’re looking for a read with a fast pace, and beautiful people living on the edge, then Super 8 is right up your (dark) alley.

I enjoyed the book Super 8. The book dives into the underbelly of the 70s porn industry, detailing the rise of an aspiring actress, wanting to become famous. I enjoyed the story crafted in the beginning. I really enjoyed her back story and her quick rise to fame. Sex sells and it definitely hooked me early on.

As the story went on, we’re introduced to a deranged lunatic who is obsessed with the main character. I enjoyed this character. He was scary, creepy and deranged. The darkness that came with his scenes were really intriguing.

The book really highlights the mental health problems of the deranged lunatic and his inability to recognize what was real and what was not. I found this fascinating. The internal struggle was real. His infatuation with this beautiful actress made him do sick and depraved things. Very dark.

I enjoyed the book. 4.5 stars. Not my favorite book but one that kept me entertained nonetheless.

This was definitely not what I was expecting but it was so captivating and enjoyable! The characters were well rounded (though I wish there was more events between the two lovers) and there's always something going on to keep you entertained while you wait for the next big event from Karl. Karl's character is so relatable to some people in today's society that become infatuated with celebrities to the point it become dangerous and I love it. It's not a story you see every day. Great read and very intriguing!

Captivating Story

I was not sure what to expect from the book title. The story is set in the seventies adult movie industry and it took couple of early chapters to grab my attention. But then the story explodes into the unexpected and held my attention through to the end. It's well written and I enjoyed the plot. Suspenseful and a great read.
