While it says it's a woman's guide, some of the book's language is a little more inclusive. Could be more inclusive, but growth.
In any case, I learned a lot about my own body. Not a surprise, but pelvic floor physical therapists are few and far between. I won't even get into the inadequacies of American healthcare.
I’ve been a follower of this author Instagram page for a while now, so I was very excited when she announced her book! In some ways I imagine you can get a lot of this information from her Instagram but I enjoyed reading it in this form. I read through everything (even though I am not currently experiencing menopause) and everything was really informative and positive while also being about uncomfortable topics. I learned so much and there is a lot I am going to proactively start doing for my health. There’s also a lot I wish I would have known in my first pregnancy and when I was postpartum that I am glad to know for if I get pregnant again. I would recommend this to everyone with a vagina! Care about your pelvic floor!! Don’t pee your pants! Don’t be in pain! 5/5
I’m so grateful this book exists. When I first discovered my prolapse eleven years ago, I thought I had cancer. No one was talking about it and finding information was hard. I’m so encouraged that books like this now exist so that my girls and all women now have better access to pelvic floor information. This book is written very accessibly.
Every single woman should read this book. If you are a woman, read this book. I’m not even kidding. It is SO important to know these things about our bodies, especially so that we can find and demand the care that we need in all stages of life!!!
This is an excellent reference guide, written by a highly regarded pelvic floor physical therapist. It's well worth reading for all women who are experiencing problems with their pelvic floor. I found it to be clearly written and comprehensive.
Absolutely everybody with a pelvic floor should read this book! I especially enjoyed reading about pre- and postpartum pelvic care while waiting for my hysterectomy consultation! I’m sure I’ll rely on the information for surgery healing as well!
Absolutely loved the messages and the author (as I also follow her on instagram and attempted the Vhive membership)! Every woman should read this book. I already knew most of the information from school and my own journey, but I also still managed to learn so much more than that. It was a great reminder of things I still need to work on, and tips for prevention care as I age.
I only gave it 4 stars because I felt like it was very redundant.
First half of this book was somewhat boring but I really came alive for chapters 7-9 on pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Shoutout to Jenny, my amazing pelvic floor PT, who has taught me so much. This is yet another topic that really should have been included in high school health class curriculum.
A few takeaways:
- I should stop hover peeing in public toilets. - I should also stop peeing “just in case.” - Constipation is harder on your pelvic floor than running! - Yoga and walking are great for the pelvic floor and life in general. - I have second degree tears, hemorrhoids, and prolapse from childbirth but there are many far worse chronic pelvic floor problems that I am grateful not to have.
I started reading this book because I am learning about the female reproductive system in school and wanted to read something to supplement that. I thought it was really informative and insightful. After all, the body that it describes belongs to half the population, including me, and I did not know about a lot of these things. I think it speaks to how, to put it simply, knowledge of women's health doesn't have a lot of transparency or ease of accessibility. It's really important to be your own advocate in these settings.
It makes me feel sad as well, as somebody entering the medical profession, to see the lack of trust the author has in the medical field. I can't even say it's not warranted because I know exactly where she's coming from.
I like that a lot of the things in this book were actionable, and the author takes their time to explain what can be done about certain issues, both on your own and with the help of some equipment.
I appreciate what a feminist book this is. I think this is definitely a book that I'm going to be recommending to people because we need to be increasing our own health literacy. It is definitely a book that I would come back to regarding any problems that I might have in the future as I continue to grow older.
I read this book more so for the preventative side of things and learned so much. I skipped a few chapters that really didn't relate to me but can definitely see myself reaching for this book if an issue comes up. a must read for everyone
📚 This book could easily be read all at once, or it could be used as a way to intentionally learn about different issues that occur with pelvic floors. I found myself alternating between this book and fiction books - because this information was so rich and meaningful that I needed time and space to process it fully. Sara made the information easy to access for the reader and I am so thankful to have it on my shelf. I can fully see myself looking back through this book as I age and need to reread certain parts.
🌟 If you want to learn more about the Pelvic Floor this guide is where you should start! If you’re like me and you’ve followed The Vagina Whisperer then you’re going to want to support Sara by reading her book!

OK this book is great and I got the audio book from NetGalley (thanks to the publisher) and the author read it, which was great but yall need a hard copy of this one. I was going to give a 4 star simply for that reason but I can’t. I’m sitting here listening, thinking I need to buy a copy of this for myself and for my daughter. I need to buy this for every woman I know. I think this will be my go-to gift for baby showers.. for weddings.. for 40th birthdays. This information is SO important! It’s truly for women of all ages. And it’s not just for those pregnant or postpartum. It’s truly for everyone. Far too long, woman’s pain has been ignored or brushed off. Our suffering has been normalized and made into an inconvenience. If you’ve leaked while sneezing, this is common.. but it’s not normal and it’s not every woman’s destiny! Surprise, your pelvic floor muscles are connected to everything! Some of the general info about perimenopause really had me floored. I just didn’t know anything. This is a very practical guide with stretches and exercises listed and referred back to again and again. This is why a hard copy lying around that you can flip back and forth with is essential. As a 40yo mom of 3, I highly recommend this book!
Floored: A Woman's Guide to Pelvic Floor Health at Every Age and Stage—A Comprehensive Guide for Women of All Ages is a wonderful resource for all women. I have looked for more information related to the pelvic floor during past pregnancies and could never find anything outside of textbooks. Sara Reardon fills the gap in education for the average women in what is arguably one of the most important parts of our body.
Essential to our everyday functions, our pelvic floor helps control our bladder and bowels. Too many women only learn about their pelvic floor once there is a problem. I am so glad there is a book I can recommend to both friends and family, as well as clients I see during the perinatal period (pregnancy and postpartum).
Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, Park Row, and the author Sara Reardon for an ARC of Floored in exchange for an honest review!
Pelvic Floor health is one of those topics that is never really taught or thought about. Sure, everyone has heard of a Kegel, but there is so much more to know and understand. For starters, I did not even know that a pelvic floor physical therapist was even a thing before I picked up this book. Floored by Dr. Sara Reardon is a revolutionary book on pelvic floor health that contains practical advice, pelvic floor exercises, and a warm guidance as you navigate through whatever stage in life you find yourself.
Floored was an engaging and illuminating look at what pelvic floor conversations can and should look like. EVERYONE with a pelvic floor should read this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the advance access to this book in exchange for my honest review.

A wonderful resource for understanding how to care for your body. It has best practices for daily activities and comprehensive information in an easy to understand language.
I recommend everyone read this - especially women - as I had no knowledge of the pelvic floor's function within my body and have adjusted the way I sit & perform daily activity.
The narration of the audiobook was done by Sara and she did an excellent job.
I learned so much useful information about pelvic floors, and this book even made me think about how I might teach my children good habits around emptying the tanks. I originally thought that pelvic floor pt was mostly for postpartum moms, but that is definitely not true. I feel empowered and informed to take charge of my pelvic floor health throughout every stage of life with this book without the need to pay for PT.
Reading this book is like a toolkit for life…highly recommend to any woman. There’s definitely an overload of detail and a lot of repetition but I really love the author’s voice, passion, and perspective.
Honestly changed my life in so many ways, and I love the absolute honestly of the author and how open she is about her own pelvic floor. Recommend this to every single person I know with a pelvic floor!
Every woman should read this book. Pelvic floor health is so important at all stages of life and this book helps readers understand how to care for their pelvic floors.
This book was packed full of information every female needs to hear. All ages and stages in life. Dr. Sara writes in a way that is enjoyable to read, understandable, and easily relatable. This is a book I will keep on my shelf for me and my daughter and hopefully more generations to come.
I’m planning to buy this book and bookmark chapters and pass it out to all my friends whenever they talk about pelvic health issues 🫶 I’ve received pelvic floor PT and it was a game changer for me so I loved how clear and accessible this was for those who might not have the means or ability to go themselves!! It will def be worth a re-visit as I enter new life stages as well!
Why pelvic floor PT is not a standard care of care for all women is beyond me. A very important conversation with helpful information and tips for all stages of life! Hoping we can change the narrative and make this a more common conversation for all. I appreciate her work in advocating for and educating women!
Incredible book for anyone interested in understanding the pelvic floor and women’s health. Loved experiencing this from a PT’s perspective. So many personal and professional takeaways
