Step 1: Tie a Knot Around Your Wrist To create a foundation chain, start by tying a knot around your wrist. This will create a loop that you will use to work the rest of the chain. 1. **Thread your crochet hook with your yarn.** The end of the yarn should be coming out of the hook, with a long tail. 2. **Hold the yarn tail in your left hand.** The hook should be in your right hand. 3. **Wrap the yarn around the hook, going from front to back.** The yarn should now be on the hook, with a loop hanging down. 4. **Bring the loop over the hook and through the loop on the hook.** This will create a knot around your wrist. 5. **Tighten the knot so that it is snug against your wrist.** You should now have a foundation chain of one stitch. You can now continue on to the next step of your crochet project. ### Step 2: Work the Chain Once you have tied the knot, you can start working the chain. To do this, simply yarn over and pull through the loop on your hook. Repeat this step until you have the desired length of chain.
