The sixth book in The Bodyguards Of L.A. County series by Cate Beauman. Abigail Harris was kidnapped and forced to work for a man she trusted in a sex-ring organization. She was rescued but now is hiding until the court date when she can testify with her bodyguard, Jerrod Quinn. Meanwhile, baddies are after her to shut her up and get revenge.

Another one of those books that just didn't quite do it for me. I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. It is part of a series and I have not read the other books in the series but I don't think you really needed to. Other than characters in common, it pretty much is a stand-alone from what I can see. Anyway, I thought Abigail border lined on being TSTL. She was determined to keep working and going places that made her vulnerable. Therefore, I felt 3 stars was appropriate.

This was a freebie, and I like romantic suspense, so I thought I'd check it out and see if this is a new series for me. It says it can be read as a standalone, but there are quite a few characters (obviously from previous books) who got updates. I've decided this series will end for me with this book.

Is Jerrod a professional bodyguard or hormonal teenager? Both were equally annoying. Kiss Abby. Push her away with "I can't do this". Repeat, repeat, repeat. Plus, he wasn't a very effective bodyguard. He couldn't spot the giant neon sign over Shelby's head that screamed "I'M THE VILLAIN!!!!" I'm pretty sure it could be seen for miles.

The biggest problem in the book is (completely unrealistic human) Abby. She just graduated from college, but she's launching her own fashion line. Sure. She comes from a poor background, but she was able to travel the world in college. Sure. She's only 5'4", but she's a supermodel. Sure. Abby spent two months as a captive in a sex trafficking ring, and a few months later she's pretty much fine. Sure. I can totally buy that a few months after being raped and abused she'd have no qualms about doing a half naked photo shoot.

But the thing about Abby that annoyed me the most is her raging case of TSTL syndrome. She goes out of her way to put herself in danger and then pouts like a child when she gets called out on it. I started to actively hate her.

Other random things that made me roll my eyes:

There's no way a town of 15,000 people only has three stop lights. I grew up in a town about twice that size, and there are probably 100+ stop lights. And a sheriff in that size of a town would have more to his job than breaking up bar fights. I realize it's not LA or NYC, but there's more to the midwest than barn dances and farming. Google is your friend.

Are there really women dumb enough to fall for "I'll pull out"? Multiple times????

Why weren't there any "real" law enforcement officers involved in helping secure a witness with this much value to a case?

What kind of rookie security outfit is this? The watch broke so the transmitter doesn't work?

The courtroom scene? Abby gets to spout off a huge monologue about all that she's been through? But it's off the record? In front of the jury? The defense attorney doesn't object? Does no one watch Law and Order reruns anymore????

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I love this series. This book is not a stand alone. You should read (Forever Alexa: Book Four In The Bodyguards Of L.A. County Series) before you read this one.

I was amazed by Abby's strength, and courage. Abby was kidnapped, and was thrust into the world of sex trafficking, and prostitution. She was saved at the end of book 4. In this book we got to see Abby slowly healing from her nightmare. She had panic attacks, and nightmares, that seemed so real. They caught a few of the people behind the sex ring, but the key players were still out there. They wanted to silence Abby forever before she had a chance to testify. It was Jerrod's job to make sure Abby stayed safe. The romance that played out within the pages of this story was sweet. It didn't feel rushed at all. The two built upon a friendship. She trusted Jerrod with her life, and Jerrod took his job serous. I loved the way she always called him "big guy" the banter between the two was fun and entertaining.

The suspense was really good. I was always holding my breath waiting for something to happen. I couldn't stand Jerrod's ex.... grrr. Hey this book had it all, kidnappers, sex trafficking, a crazy ex, and hot steamy romance.

I loved the way this book brought all the characters together from the previous books. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Justice for Abby by Cate Beauman is Book VI of the Bodyguards of LA County Series and I have been eating these romantic suspense novels up, like the M&Ms I love so much. This may be the best one yet.

Abby is taken from the rest area parking lot, right in front of her sister, Alexa, and her daughter, Livy. With the threat of harm to her family, Abby is forced to work for them, but her eye is always on escape.

After her rescue, she has lingering affects, flashbacks and panic attacks, and fears that she won’t be able to come back if she loses herself…again.

She is the prime witness for the prosecution in the trial for the traffickers. She is single handedly bringing down the largest sex ring they’d ever seen, so she has a bullseye on her back. They want her DEAD.

The traffickers are brutal, savage, only interested in themselves. The women are possessions, bought and sold, passed around like a commodity. Imagine the threat of death and torture hovering over your head, day after day, month after month, year after year, with no relief in sight.

Abby is a fighter with a big heart. She is making a name for herself in the high fashion world and paying it forward by creating opportunities for those less fortunate, hiring some of the women she knew from her captivity.

Her bodyguard, Jerrod lives with her, protecting her. He is all business, but will the sexy little kitten win over his heart? Me thinks so. I love the recurring characters and the danger that surrounds them as I wait…for that terrible something to happen.

Margret…my heart goes out to Margret and I know there is nothing Abby won’t do to try and save her.

Shelby, beware of a woman scorned and a shallow one at that. Can a villain be redeemed? I always have hope, but you’ll have to read the book to find out.

Cate Beauman describes the scenes in such vivid detail that I can see Abby dancing, singing, and shaking her bootie as she cooks and I can’t help but smile even as I type these words. Makes me want to get up and dance.

When the shit hits the fan, I love how Cate Beauman handled it and she sure has me terrified, wondering…

I love how Cate Beauman twisted and turned the normal romantic suspense beast, you know, that push and pull of attraction, the dance between yes and no, making my rating of Justice For Abby over the top.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Justice for Abby by Cate Beauman.

FIRST IMPRESSION:

This is the second book I am reading from this series and had my expectations piqued by the covers I had seen of the books that belonged to this series. The cover conveyed as less as as possible, but managed to be eye catching. The first line of the summary should have given enough clue that this book is a sequel that continues a story from a previous book.

REVIEW:

'Justice for Abby' - Abby was abducted by a human trafickking gang and she was rescued. This book details her journey towards justice. The gang who had abducted Abby were split because of her rescue and want her dead before she can ruin them further. She has to be kept safe until the trial happens. Abby realises, (for the umpteenth time) that the gang was dangerous. The bloodhounds chase her ruthlessly and Abby runs agains time, chased by criminals who would stop at nothing to murder her. Abby wants to be able to successfully give her witness in the court as justice for all the atrocities committed. Enter Jerrod Quinn, who has been assigned the task of keeping her safe. But his past and hers collide, with unknown, unexpected troubles thrown up as they get friendly and slowly attracted to each other.

The story works in some ways - it is not limited to a particular genre. There is the thriller element, the romance, the steamy scene or two and the horrific kidnapping and torture scenes. But the great beginning of chapter one and the totally unconnected chapter two had me confused for a moment. To realise that it was a flashback and the current book dealt with the events after the rescue was the important point to understand the book.

While it works great as a standalone, there are a few places where certain characters (from previous books) are not introduced in details. Like most standalone books that are part of a series, this book too would work best if the previous books had been read, in their sequential order. It is like a series of books where each book follows the life of a particular character in detail, and introduces a few from the previous works, and then a few more as story fodder for upcoming books. But if you want to concentrate on Abby's story alone, this book is more than enough from the flashback to the current events.

The plot is tight - with Abby looking for justice and her pursuers thirsting for revenge. The book made me uncomfortable in the detailed description of the abduction and rape. While the author has to be appreciated for talking about such a sensitive issue and highlighting the problems faced by young girls who go through this horror, this book will shock you in some places. It could have been a bit more sensitive to Abby's character and the psychological after effects of such cruelty (but it is mentioned in a few scenes - just not consistently).

Overall, great writing, interesting and detailed plot element, with some predictable twists and a few errors that just might slip under the radar.

WHAT I LIKED:
The strength of character showed by Abby
The author dealing with such a sensitive issue
The cover

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER:
The trial at the end and Abby's free reign to explain herself seem a bit rushed
In my personal opinion, the romance element doesn't fit well with the theme of the book.

VERDICT:

Predictable but well written.

RATING: 4/5

After I read ‘Falling For Sarah’ and ‘Saving Sophie’ I just knew I needed to read more books in the Bodyguards of L.A. County series. So when I was approached to read the sixth book in the series called ‘Justice For Abby’, I was super excited and started reading as fast as possible. I love that these books are standalones but still have the same characters. And I definitely plan to read all of them.

‘Justice For Abby’ is the story of designer Abigail Harris. Abby went through something horrific a few months ago and is going to testify to put the man responsible in jail. But doing that makes her a target yet again. Former US Marshal, Jerrod Quinn is signed to be Abby’s bodyguard. Not only is this a dangerous job, but spending time with the beautiful but traumatized Abby makes Jerrod feel things he didn’t know possible. But he can’t fall for his client..

From the beginning of this book I really loved Abigail Harris. She was such a strong, kind and beautiful person. I loved reading her story. It definitely was a hard story though.. Reading about Abby’s abduction and the horrors she went through. Cate Beauman definitely knows how to write a story that keeps you hooked on every single page.
Bodyguard Jerrod was very serious, but in everything he did you could see the way he cared for Abby. He really wanted to take care of her. Jerrod was definitely swoon worthy. I loved his character and couldn’t get enough.

Not only was ‘Justice For Abby’ another beautiful romantic story, it also kept me on the edge of my seat. There were definitely some nail-biting and thrilling moments in this book and I just never wanted the story of Abby and Jerrod to end.

The Bodyguards of L.A. County really is a great series. I really recommend it to every romance, bodyguard loving reader out there. And remember.. when you start reading these books.. You just can’t stop.

Abby is the fashion designer that was kidnapped in book 4. Abby has overcome so much since her kidnapping, the subsequent panic attacks and nightmares and has gone on to be a successful designer. It is Jerrod's job to keep her safe until the key players in the kidnapping ring are brought to justice since Abby is thekey witness. Abby trusts Jerrod with her life and they develop a friendship that leads to more. Lots of bad guys and not to mention Jerrod's ex who is a giant bitch but it's all good at the end. Lots of suspense in this one and a great storyline.

In Book #4 of the Bodyguards of LA County series, Forever Alexa, two sisters, Abigail and Alexa Harris, were driving on their way home from vacation along with Alexa’s sleeping three year old Olivia when the younger sister, Abby, was abducted. That book, Book #4, was Alexa’s search for Abby. This book, #6 Justice for Abby, is Abby’s story. (Definitely, you will want to read Forever Alexa first but it isn’t necessary. Both are standalones, telling the story of these two sisters. As you can imagine, being sisters, their stories do overlap. You might be a little spoiled by reading Justice for Abby before Forever Alexa but not much. They truly are two different books with two different stories.)

The beginning here was rough. The abduction was relived. Abby’s first moments as a captive were shown in gruesome detail. I have to admit I put the book down several times.I am not sure if this is because I have a younger sister or a two and a half year old daughter myself or what. I wondered how I would survive just reading Abby’s story. She is abducted by brutal sex traffickers. It ain’t pretty, folks. Definitely not for kids. (Hats off to Cate Beauman for tackling such a difficult topic!)

Guess what?! I stuck with it and I am so glad. The second or third chapter proved to be a huge relief for me. I am not into spoilers so I will not tell you why. Just do yourself a favor and stick with this one. To say it gets better is an understatement.

It is different from previous books in this series. The main character here is strong and quite admirable. She faces a horrific set of events and struggles to thrive. Unlike other books, she already has a history with Ethan’s bodyguards. Jerrod is no stranger, but a good friend. Ironically, this story seemed safer than previous books. I say it is ironic because Abigail Harris, so far, is the only character who has faced danger previous to her current situation. So, when everything goes sour, the suspense about killed me. I was just on the edge of my seat. The build is amazing.

The writing here was fantastic. The characters came alive. I laughed. I cried. Cate totally nailed switching points of view. It was flawless, not jarring like so many other books. I did not consciously realize the story had changed viewpoints until several paragraphs later. The setting worked well. I won’t say more than the things I wondered made me realize the extent of research the author must have put into this to “get it right”. All of the music references made me so glad I have the book’s playlist. (HERE it is – bookmark it. You will thank me later.) The only criticism I have for this book is: Where is Alexa? There could have been a one-line explanation. It seems that she should have made an appearance at certain times.

This deserves all 5 stars. I could not put this down. It has to be, if not the best, then one of the best in the series. Or maybe the series just keeps getting better and better. I don’t know. I am a fan. If you haven’t picked up one of her books yet, what in the world are you waiting for?

**The violence and romance puts this squarely in the New Adult category, best suited for adult readers.

I saw this on Book Blub and if you haven't signed up for that website you need to. I have found some amazing books that are only free for a short time and that is how I found Justice For Abby it was free and I thought why not.

Once you start reading this book you realize right away it wasn't going to be easy to get though due to the story line which revolves about sex, rape and international sex ring in which Abby is the only witness.

This book is a stand alone but I did feel really lost wishing I had read either the last book or the one before that hoping for a little more clarity.

The characters have heart, strength and lots of fun even with how dark the subject matter is.

Cate Beauman brought light to a very dark subject.

That characters had great banter and it felt natural and not forced.

The suspense was perfect and the twist I saw coming. You find you hate Jerrod's Ex-Girlfriend but at the same time the Cate Beauman gave her depth instead of making her fluff without a reason to be in the book. Everyone had purpose and reason for being in the book and I love that.

This book might have triggers for those who have been in violence situations similar to Abby.

I got this book free from the author for an honest review. This story was intense!!! Abigail Harris is fighting for her freedom and her life as she awaits to stand trial against her abductors. Jerrod is the bodyguard, who is assigned to keep her alive until the trial. Abby is an up an coming fashion designer and keeping her identity a secret is no small task. Jerrod is up to the task but along the way he starts to have feelings for his principal and he has to figure out if he will cross the line and open up to the girl he is falling in love with. The story is well paced and there are gripping moments when the abductors don't back down. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one in the series :)

First book I read in this series and it was good. Well written with enough angst to hold you. Could have don't without some things but karma is a wicked bitch...although we never found out if anything happened to that LA bitch journalist we can't say the same for Shelby....she had a hard lesson there. Liked the heroine taking a brave although somewhat sad approach to recovery....nice job.

Jerrod and Abby

Abby Harris is finally going to get her day in court. She has been kidnapped, raped and terrorized and is trying to get on with her life as a fashion designer and model. Jerrod Quinn her her personal protection officer and has been with her since she left the hospital. He is the newest member of Ethan Cooke Security and very qualified for this job due to his stint with the US Marshals’ as a WITSEC program. These two live together and are together 24/7. He accompanies her to various appointments and jobs and even filled in at a photo shoot when the male model doesn’t show. That’s where everything changes and the two realized there is really something between them. Of course stuffy Jerrod pushes her away as he must focus on keeping her safe. Abby is put in danger by an ambitious reporter who reveals she in LA and the two go on the run from the two remaining members of the sex trafficking ring who have not been apprehended. This book is action packed and suspense filled. It also has a loving family, farm life, a vindictive ex girlfriend, flashbacks, panic attacks, learning to fight back, more danger, some hot steamy scenes and love.

Difficult subject matters talked about in this book

This book is very dark. The subject matter dealt with during this isn't for everyone . Abby the main character has been kidnapped, tortured, Raped and abused, and is now the prosecutions star witness against the head of the sex syndicate she was made to work for.
She has PTSD and a bodyguard because of her ordeal herself and Jarod her bodyguard have become close and feelings have started to develop on both sides what better time to test the water of feelings then when in a life threatening situation.
I suppose it could be classified as a romantic thriller, but with so many triggers I don't know how.
I enjoyed the action in this, Abby is trying to grow out of her terrors and deal with these things but being pre trail she's feeling trapped.

Gritty, heart-rending, and ultimately sweet and rewarding.

Abby was sex-trafficked by a man she thought was her friend and has to be protected by Jerrod Quinn, a no-nonsense by-the-book bodyguard. She is running from monsters who relish violence, rape, and torture, and the point is made when her young friend, 15 year old Margret is ... and ...

While Abby fights off panic attacks and tries to get under Jerrod's skin, betrayal and exposure cause them to go on the run together. The story is hot, fast-paced, and emotional as Jerrod discovers a side of himself he'd been suppressing. Their emotional growth was awesome to experience and I love the teamwork of bringing in both former and future bodyguards to finish off bad guys.

I was excited to start this book. After her ordeal (through Alexa) in book #4, I' been waiting on the "epilogue" to that story for some time. I must admit, though, that it felt like somewhat of a slow start. I wasn't as in to it as I'd hope.

But I'm glad I stuck with it. Because as the climax approached - wow. There were twists and turns I didn't see coming. Even knowing there would be a happy ending, I still found myself dropping my jaw at certain parts and getting teary at another part.

Bravo.

On to book #7.

Justicei For Abby: Book Six In The Bodyguards Of L. A. County

I loved the fast paced action in this book. This book was exciting and kept me up all night reading it. The story of how determined Abby was to work through all the nightmares, panic attacks was impressive. The positive influences in her life are her sister and niece and her personal bodyguard. Jerrod Quinn became not only her bodyguard but her confidant. The plot is very fast moving and has you sitting on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend reading anything this author writes I know I will..

Such a great story but...

But there is at least THREE explicit and very descriptive rape scenes in this book that were AWFUL to have to read and one was a rape and brutal murder of a 15 year old girl. I always want to rate a book less for this. My imagination is bad enough, the descriptive scenes are disgusting. But, maybe this problem lies only with me.

Holy Sh*t!

This book was so much more than I ever expected it to be. It has action, it has drama, it has comedy, it has an amazing love story (a little cliche, but I love a cliche) and I couldn’t put it down. There are so many build ups I had to get to the next chapter. I would absolutely recommend for anyone who has eyes and knows how to read!!

Intense from start to finish

This book was harder to read than the others due to the serious subject matter and the glimpse into the depth of hopelessness and sadness Abby has to overcome. It was fascinating, intriguing and full of highs and lows. Good read.

Another great read by Cate Beauman. This series is definitely one to check out as it has so much going for it. Great characters and great storylines that will have you hooked right from the start. Intrigue, danger, suspense and romance all rolled into one.

Abby has had a brush with danger that she doesn’t want repeating after being kidnapped and kept in a sex ring. You don’t find out everything that happened to her straight away, only through moments of flashbacks that occur when something triggers a memory. If you have read the whole series then you might know more details but I felt that it helped bring more suspense and intrigue to the story by not knowing everything. Abby is the major key witness who can take down the sex ring as a whole and because of that there are people that want her dead. For the past six months she has been living a life hidden from the world, waiting for the trial date to get closer. The only constants in her life are her work designing clothes and her bodyguard Jerrod. She has always just seen Jerrod as her bodyguard/friend, nothing more, nothing less. But slowly she starts to see him in a new light, one where it helps that his shirt keeps coming off – yum! While at a secret fashion shoot for her coming out debut when the trial is over Jerrod has to step in last minute with her or the shoots off. You can see how her thoughts on him would start to get cloudy after beginning half naked in a bed with him looking seductively into each other’s eyes. When her cover is blown though they have to leave ASAP so Jerrod takes her somewhere no-one will know her, someplace safe. He takes her to his childhood home hoping it will be calm sailing there but this is where the fun really starts to begin for them.

Jerrod has tried to not think about Abby as anything other than his principle. Every decision he makes is for her safety and that must be his only priority. The thing is that being that close to her for so long his feelings have changed. He wants her more each and every day but doesn’t know how to be with her without risking her safety. Then there is the fact that his ex keeps hanging around causing trouble while trying to get him back. Emotions run high throughout this one as the subject matter is so much more delicate but the moment Jerrod gets his lips on Abby he knows he’s a goner. He just has to decide whether to take that leap of faith to get the one person he knows he can’t live without.

Loved how clued in Abby was with each environment she finds herself. When she felt happy and carefree you could almost relax reading, as you knew nothing bad was going to happen. There’s always the calm before the storm though and what better way to deal with the calm than in Jerrod’s arms. But the moment she started to feel restless (she was right not to trust that guy, no matter whose friend he was) you just knew danger was brewing. Everything is leading to a big climax at the end and you are just waiting to put all the pieces together to see how it will all play out.

Had slightly the same style with the guy not being able to make his mind up if he wants the girl or not (might be a running theme with the series but not sure). Though not to the extreme that Ethan does in Falling for Sarah. More like stolen kisses and confusion before just going for it. Once Jerrod has Abby though he has no intention of letting her go. Which is what she has wanted for a lot longer than she first thought – him too.

This is only the second book I have read in the series. Even though this is technically book six I feel that it could be read as a standalone. There are only a few moments where other characters are mentioned at the very beginning and end where you might feel a bit lost but they pass quickly enough.

I received this ARC from Book Review Tours for my honest review.

After being rescued from a brutal sex ring, Abby Harris is now the key witness in the trial of the two men arrested in her case. However, their partners are still free and actively searching for her before her testimony can end them as well. She tries to keep her life as normal as she can, as her bodyguard, Jerrod Quinn, does all that he can to keep her safe. Abby doesn’t always make it easy as the protocols that keep her safe and the need to be constantly looking over her shoulder take their toll. As the trial gets closer, flashbacks and nightmares threaten to cripple her. Jerrod is her rock, yet caring for her when she is at her most vulnerable, awakens feelings in Jerrod that could compromise his ability to keep her safe.

Still loving this series. Once again I was given the opportunity to review a book in the compellingly addictive Bodyguards of L.A. County series. Actually, this turned out to be the first book I read in the series and it was a terrific introduction. From reading other reviews this book seems to be a sequel to book 4 in the series. Forever Alexa is not a book I was asked to read, however I would love to. Not having read it didn’t hamper the story for me at all. This book stands alone quite well. The author has a knack for including something for all readers and allowing her story to cross genres. This is not a sappy romance. There is plenty of suspense and intrigue with just the right amount of pulse pounding action and a touch of steamy romance. The banter between Abby and Jerrod is fun and is the perfect lead in to a relationship that neither is sure they are in a place to pursue. The story is character driven, Not just the two main characters, but all of the secondary characters add life and charm to the story. It is great to see reappearances of previous book characters as well.

Abby is a strong person, who is able to make what she has been through work for her. She is lucky to have a strong support system around to help her through the worst. The story of just what she has endured is unrolled throughout the story in pieces making the story less about her ordeal and more about her recovery. Jerrod’s story is just as interesting. His back story made him seem a bit one dimensional and shallow at one point in his life, yet we are able to see his growth to the man he is now. His family was an interesting addition to the story, though at first I thought bringing his ex into it was just an excuse to have a bit of conflict for the romance, even she turned out to be more than a bit of story fluff.

All in all this is a terrific book that I am sure I will read again, provided my ever growing To Be Read list allows me the time.

Justice for Abby by Cate Beauman is the sixth book in The Bodyguards of L.A. County series. Abby Harris was kidnapped by a brutal sex trafficking ring, where she suffered horrific abuse for several months, until being rescued in an FBI sting operation. Now, she lives with a bodyguard, Jerrod Quinn, a former US Marshall, who now works for Ethan Cooke Security. As the trial date nears, new threats pop up, continually testing Jerrod’s skills and ability to keep Abby safe from harm. The heads of the ring want Abby dead, and Jerrod has to think quickly to keep his client alive until the trial date. Along with that, the two begin to harbor romantic feelings for one another. Will Jerrod be able to do his job, or will his feeling for Abby put him in a vulnerable position?

Miss Beauman has written a fast-paced, heart-pounding romantic suspense novel. I enjoyed every moment of this book, finding myself pulled into Abby and Jerrod’s world seamlessly. Even though this book is a part of a series, it definitely stands alone. I would be keen to read other books in the series, as the writing is so compelling. The plot was perfectly developed, and I felt the story ended when it should have. I loved the relationship build-up between Abby and Jerrod. There were some very steamy scenes in this novel, but all were tastefully done. Justice for Abby by Cate Beauman is definitely worth the read for anyone who enjoys a little action with their romance.
