Twisted Oak: A Sexual Odyssey

Rate this book
Terrified of becoming her mother, a woman always waiting for her next fix, Susan leaves behind dreary Kansas City for a hostel in New Orleans. With no sense of place, and no one to help her navigate the city as she struggles through withdrawal, Susan soon falls under the wing of Ty, a man no stranger to misery himself. Among crumbling walls and garden gates, he leads her to a family and world so unlike her own that she must take on a new name: Neige Blanche. Armed with this new identity, Neige finds her way to Twisted Oak, an estate owned by Mr. Gregory-Michel Delacroix, a place where power and pain are both familiar and profane. Wrapped up in his love for her, and intoxicated by his demands for complete surrender, Neige falls for this wealthy stranger. With the kaleidoscope of New Orleans as the backdrop of her transformation, Neige embraces this new terrain, but is left wondering: Why me?

As she unravels the Delacroix family history, the answer to her question is revealed.

Without giving anything away because a book like this needs to be experienced first hand, almost with your eyes wide open (and tightly shut as you read some parts possibly), this book left my
description....

Completely and utterly shot to hell.

This read is not for everyone, for a multitude of reasons, but to me - it was everything in the time I was reading it. It had lil' bit of everything I love to read, kinky-f*ckery at it's very best! I love it when books consume me, not very many have the capacity to do that, and to hold and sustain my interest at a level like this story did. Even when certain things and characterisms drove me CRAZY, I miss it already. And as for Delacroix and his demanding 'little ways' if I had to choose the dom I'd want from any book I've ever read, he would be mine. He's my kinda f*cked up, twisted.

I'd kinda do anything for more, to just know more from their pasts, present and future.

Erotica is not usually my first choice of genre though I did read the Fifty Shades series, after the record-breaking sales, to see what all of the hype was about. I was really disappointed overall with the series. IMHO, they were poorly written. I picked up Twisted Oak because it was written by a local author and I have always had a love for Mississippi Writers. William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams, Richard Wright, John Grisham... Twisted Oak should be (and I predict will be) the book that is breaking sales records. It is a beautiful, eloquently written novel which accurately portrays the culture of the south and the beauty of New Orleans in a narrative style while taking the reader on an odyssey of their own. The author's use of the local dialect in her writing is amazing! Mark Twain himself would be proud. Miss Nez, thank you for a great read and odyssey. This modern-day work continues the tradition of many Mississipi writers. I look forward to many more from you!

Twisted Oak: A Sexual Odyssey is a work of erotica as the title suggests. I am really torn as how to rate this book. As a work of fiction, the prose was beautiful and compelling. The author is an excellent writer and her writing was beautiful and compelling to read. In addition, her examination of the psychology behind the characters was excellent. As a work of erotica, I did not enjoy the sex scenes. Some of it was the way they were written and some of it was that they made me uncomfortable as the topic was way outside my comfort zone (group sex). In addition, I had some trouble connecting with the characters in the book.

Oh wow this book was a great read. It is really intense and not for everyone. With that said it was a must read for me. It was hard to read in some parts but those were some of the best parts in my opinion.

I read this and found it so bizarre that I half convinced myself the end would be her waking up and the story being part of drug induced hallucinations. The way it is written it sounds as if it takes place in the 1800s and not 1987 onwards. At times I felt as it was as strange as Johnny Depp's Alice in Wonderland.
The writing for Ty's speech intending to demonstrate his Creole accent was at times confusing and I had to reread.
'feel the pain, embrace the pain, you're alive' on repeat got a tad annoying and cloying.
I understand that it may be tricky deciding whether to go with the biological or metaphoric terms for sex and body parts but I couldn't help but cringe in this book:
'pebble'. 'most private estuary', 'canal' (there must have been a water based theme at this point!), 'vaginal portal' (sounds like time travel time), 'juice of life', 'sacred sword'.
I think my face curled up with laughter the prose was so bizarre at times:
'so fucking cerebral; I wish I could stick my dick in your ear and fuck your brain.'
I've read a lot of BDSM based prose and in none of them has the woman been called such abrasive terms so frequently, it was quite jarring. She goes from virginal to being a nymphomaniac within hours, then soon on to group sex, it felt a little forced on her.
At the end, yes there was a happy ending, but I still felt a sinister edge, I wanted to shake Neige, Ty and Sunny and tell them all they'd been rescued and then brainwashed rather than saved.

I was excited to read this book from the interesting cover and book summary.
Reading the early pages, I found it to be quite disjointed.

As for the male lead, why is he attracted to her? It's lost on me. This is where I think it may have worked better in this story to perhaps provide alternate points of view.

It was a chore to chew through at the beginning. There was a lot going on and it was not executed well.
It was all safe which does not allow the reader to wonder where the story is going to go.
I found the erotic side not anything new, it probably missed potential for feelings and the small details.
The Sir and Lord was all a bit silly and repetitive to me.
I could not read the whole lot and skimmed pieces.

3.5-4 this book was written exceptionally, however it dragged on. Then the finale is rushed. I was disappointed at the end, after all the details twisted dark that I love, the wrap up was too quick...
