My Neighbour's Affair

Rate this book
After I discovered my neighbour's affair, my mistake was getting involved... I've never liked my next-door neighbour, Tanya, but I'm shocked when I discover she is having an affair. She doesn't seem the type, plus her husband, Joe, is gorgeous, so why would she risk her marriage?

With her secret out, I have to decide what to do next. My husband, Spencer, wants me to stay out of it. He says it's none of my business and he might be right. But news travels fast on a street as sleepy as mine and sordid secrets aren't safe in suburbia...

I can't help it. I have to get involved. I believe I am doing the right thing, only to discover, to my horror, that my neighbour is not the only one capable of making a mistake. I am too, as are the people closest to me, and as things get out of control and multiple marriages are at stake, I'm going to wish I never found out about my neighbour's affair...

Nice read, just too predictable. It pains me because I love anything Daniel writes. This one just did not grab me like his other books.

This is the first Daniel Hurst book I have ever finished. I have never been able to enjoy one of his books, despite the fact that the blurbs always appeal to me. I wanted to finish just one book so I knew it wasn’t that I just needed to get through the first part of his books. Honestly what did I get read 😂 Mr Hurst is just not for me, but I think I’m an outlier here!

"My Neighbour's Affair" was fair.

Not good or great.

WHY?

1) There were many, many affairs in "My Neighbour's Affair".

(At least five!)

The first 65% of this book showcased the dalliances of the book's protagonists and their immediate families.

(Huh?)

And then a dead body was discovered.

2) I was hoping for a classic Daniel Hurst popcorn thriller.

I do not enjoy books that predominantly focus on the romantic indiscretions of multiple couples.

-----------------

I am a huge Daniel Hurst fan and have listened to all of his audiobooks.

Some of Daniel Hurst's books are better than others.

This was not one of his better books.

The audiobook was narrated by Penny Scott-Andrews and Andy Cresswell.

Penny Scott-Andrews' narration was good but not great.

Andy Cresswell's narration was outstanding.

Such a genuinely terrible book, felt like the author was trying to meet a word count the whole damn time.

4.5⭐️ I really enjoyed this one! It was the perfect palette cleanser thriller that I needed. This author has been hit or miss for me but this was definitely a hit! Scandalous drama, affairs, neighbor drama, deceit, murder all the things that makes a thriller a thriller! It gave me Desperate Housewives vibes and I mean that in the best way! I’m usually the twist detector but I only figured out one of the twists in this one so it was nice to be surprised by the end. I recommend this one for a popcorn thriller!

This is my 35th book by Daniel Hurst and he never ceases to amaze me. That brain of his must be in constant overdrive to come up with the things he comes up with. This book truly has so many twists and turns along the way that I was getting whiplash!!!!! What will be next for Daniel? Whatever it is, you can bet I’ll be first in line buying it!!!!

Another brilliant read from this author, very different to his usual books but equally as good.

It starts with a nosy neighbour and just gets more involved as time goes on with all the brilliant characters, great storytelling with an ending I never guessed.

I can thoroughly recommend this book, well done Daniel.

Another fast paced read from Daniel Hurst. My Neighbour's Affair . A risque read from the author, but thankfully no graphics.. Clover overhears her neighbour on the phone talking to someone she is having an affair with. The plot builds and unfolds from there with some unexpected revelations.

This novel reminded me of the theory that a butterfly flapping his wings can create an effect a world away. I probably wrote that wrong. This story was like a domino set up where you push one and the whole stack starts to fall. That’s better. An overheard conversation starts an avalanche sweeping up revenge, family issues, murder and those twists Daniel is good at. I received an ARC but I am posting this review on my own.

Holy crap. My brain just had a whiplash of rollercoaster emotions.

Your asking how can your brain have a whiplash? I don't know, but what I do know is that this book had twist after twist after twist and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Alot of mind games going on. Ok on to the actual review.

I love all of Daniel Hurst books and this one didn't disappoint. The characters in the story and the twists that you didn't see coming were brilliant. You always think you have figured it out and then Daniel throws in another twist. definitely highly recommended

I felt parts of the story was a bit over the top, with characters that showed no emotion at all, especially Spencer when she found her husband murdered in bed!!! But overall it was an enjoyable read.

Great Writing

I liked this a lot. No blood and guts. All psychological drama. 3.7 stars rounded up. Would have like more edge of your seat suspense but it was still good.

Good cheeky fun. A suburban drama that’s fast, entertaining, and full of people making questionable choices. Not a life-changer, but perfect if you want something juicy to break up your TBR.

I started this one the second Libby dropped it in my lap (26 people were in line behind me) which tells me that Daniel Hurst knows how to keep readers hooked.

Told in dual narration, this story drops you right into a quiet street where secrets are never safe for long. Affairs, feuds, and plenty of “oh no they didn’t” moments keep things moving. It is dramatic, messy, and no one here is winning any awards for good behavior.

While I found the plot more predictable than I hoped, there were still a few fun surprises along the way. This one is pure popcorn reading, the kind where you shake your head at the characters and still turn the pages to see what they will do next.

✌️Vibe check. Read this if you like.

🏠Quick suburban drama
🎭 Messy and entertaining
🙅‍♀️ Unlikable characters
🕵️ A few twists mixed with predictable turns

Affair after affair

The only thing one needs to know before reading this book is that the main plot is multiple extra marital affairs by multiple people. The book begins interesting enough. There is a married couple and only one of which is happy in the Union. The wife Clover is quite naive to her husband’s true nature. Spencer is having an affair with her sister Lilly and actually believes they can be together once they let Clover know they truth. Then there are the neighbors and her parents and a woman from work…… just a tangled web of deception and clearly unhappily married couples who fall so easily into cheating. The writing fell off. It became redundant, and very unrealistic and also predictable. I barely held on to completing the story. It wasn’t a thriller it was a snoozer

nonsense

This was such a ridiculous implausible book. None of it was believable- from being able to hear someone next door having sex; to the police prosecuting someone with no evidence to the photographer - who doesn’t drive- seeing the couple having sex. What a pile of rubbish

I’m always grabbing Hurst’s books as soon as they come out and have also grabbed a few ARCs! He has such an easy reading style. I read hundreds of books each year, and some of the heavier reads can be so brain taxing. Hurst’s books are the perfect read to just sit back, relax, and enjoy! This book fits all of my needs! I read it quickly and enjoyed the story!

Twist and turns galore!

The Neighbor’s Affair isn’t really about the affair itself—it’s just the spark that ignites a rollercoaster of unexpected twists and turns. This is one of those stories that keeps you on your toes, with each chapter revealing another character stepping far outside the norm. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially being inside the mind of someone who consistently makes questionable choices (to put it mildly, haha). It’s a quick, compelling read, packed with just enough drama to keep you hooked until the very end.

Great job Daniel! This story was more of a romance thriller but in any case, it was great.

Hurst's latest novel, "My Neighbor's Affair," is the one in which everyone sleeps with everyone else's spouse until one of them ends up in mortal danger. The fast-paced thriller tells a wild and scandalous account of sex, lies, and suburbia that unfolds once accidental knowledge of an affair sets off a shocking chain of events. None of the characters are particularly likable in this story (and a few are completely despicable), as one might expect, yet this honestly made it more entertaining. I constantly looked forward to the moment everything would hit the fan and cause deceptions to finally be exposed!

Overall, the book was hard to put down, despite some of its more outrageous plotlines. If anything, the narrative serves as an extreme cautionary tale about infidelity and the emotional upheaval or deadly consequences that can lie in its wake.

I’m someone who generally finishes a good thriller in a couple of days but this took me over a week to read. It got to the point where reading another page felt like a chore but I soldiered on anyway. Terrible plot, ridiculously predictable and not even a single bit enjoyable.

Great book

This was another great book by Daniel Hurst! It's a very fast paced thriller. Clover and Spencer are happily married and live in a cozy neighborhood. Clover overhears her neighbor talking about ending an affair with a married man. Clover has never liked her neighbor, but she is surprised by this bit of gossip. Little does Clover know that this is the beginning of the end of her perfect relationship with her husband and her sister. Highly recommend any of Daniel Hurst's books!

Fast paced. Edge of my seat. What a READ!!!! The conniving characters, the absurdity (in a good way) of it all, the secrets and the scheming! Wow. This is a new favourite author. He’s so good!! Like I couldn’t put this book down!!! I’m still laughing from just wrapping my head around this book. Damn!!!

I only wish a few things had been tied up at the end which is why it loses one star.

Disappointed

I’ve read all of this Authors books and have enjoyed every one. This was mediocre, couldn’t hold my attention, boring at times and I knew who the culprit was immediately. Very slight twist in the tale! Or was there? Certainly not one of his best books.
