Read on An older brother’s best friend romance with the added spice of a fine af hockey player! You won’t want to miss this small town girl finally finding her place in the big city…with the right guy. And it comes with a guaranteed HEA!
(Might or might not be a spoiler for some) I fairly liked this book. It was well written with no noticeable grammar or punctuation errors, not that I care that much if I did notice any as I’m always down to read a good and guaranteed HEA book with or without errors lol. The book was fast paced with a lot of back and forth in it between the MC’s. I will say that there wasn’t much of a first time problem between the characters to make this a second chance story though but nonetheless, it was a good book.
I will say that I wasn’t a fan of the FMC some times. Especially with her back and forth of should I stay or should I go every time the slightest of things happened. It felt like one ongoing cycle of her feeling like its too much and she can’t do it, she’ll go back to her hometown and then there’s one little compliment or change in the MMCs demeanor that had her determined to stay and work things out. After the intimate slip up that night and then the distance, I thought she would just keep her distance and leave it alone for longer than she did. When she was accused of that one thing, I really thought that was the nail in the coffin but it’s like once he apologized, all was well and she was even more determined to stay. If anything, I would’ve been ready to dip and let him figure out he made a mistake on his own.
The half of the conversation being heard by her between the brother and Mav with no chance of explaining before taking off was expected from her to be honest. It fit right into her character.
One thing that did bother me with the whole big career opportunity thing was that it wasn’t really talked or thought about… Something that big of a decision should take more than a day and night to decide on. It’s like they discussed it, he played a game, and then they discussed it again and made their decision on it. That’s something that should be thoroughly discussed before being agreed upon. To ME it seemed like choose me and my career dreams over something that could be huge for you and your career. I would have liked to see more separate thoughtful thinking regarding pros and cons from both MMC & FMC
Vixa Vaughn surely can write a story that’ll keep you engaged with wanting to know how it’ll play out. Despite it knowingly being an HEA, some authors have a different outlook on what that looks like for certain characters and I’m glad these characters got the HEA they deserved. Looking forward to reading more from this author for sure.
I don't usually write reviews. Instead, just I usually give a number of stars and try to be generous, but this needs words. While I applaud anyone who has the time and determination to write and publish, this book just wasn't for me. The sex was lacking. The conflict was lacking. Important details missing...what has the lead female been through? There are hints, but nothing that explains why she is so apprehensive and unsure of herself... the descriptions of characters are lacking, what kind of brown skin? What makes Maverick so irresistible other than short brown hair and blue eyes? The sex is okay at best--the whole thing feels like a Hallmark movie with a little basic sex added in for good measure. And the "conflict"?? A slight misunderstanding that results in a major overreaction and is resolved immediately is just boring at best. The second "challenge" to the relationship is even more perplexing to the reader...as is the resolution. It all feels...just so basic. If you're interested in hockey romance, I HIGHLY suggest the DENVER REBELS series by Maureen Smith. The Black women leads are smart, capable, confident, and fully formed, the romantic partners are sexy, fleshed out characters, and the story is much more filled out and keeps you engaged. I wish I hadn't bought this whole series, but took a chance based on some of the other reviews. I have no interest to read anymore of this series, and wish I could return these books. If you like bland, vanilla romance with basic descriptions and no real conflict, than these are the stories for you. I hope the writer continues to develop her storytelling skills and wish her success, but this is the end of the line for me.
This is another example of how GOOD this Vixa’s work is. This one provides you with grit and determination and a whole lot of patience. Will give you a beautiful, slightly flawed, HEA. Don’t Give A Puck gives you sex, lies and some video…(lol)…Just the chemistry alone between Maverick and Tyree is palpable.
Truly a work weekend starter.
Any opinions, recommendations, or suggestions expressed within this review our Solely and uniquely made by me. I originally and voluntarily received in advance copy of this book via Bsprout.
I think all along, he was going to fall in love with Tyree. he was patient with her, even when she was messing up. she was destroying his life and his career, but he gave her another chance. he believed in her. and when they scandal hit, he helped to prove it wasn't her. when she tried to walk away, he fought for her... for them. he stopped being self-centered and let her in. and who doesn't love a sexy, overprotective alpha male who also plays hockey.
Listened to audiobook on YouTube. It was really good, but this was my 3rd book and it was a bit formulaic. I wonder if all Vixa's stories follow the same formula While the plots and settings are different, the characters are rather similar too. Despite this critique I really enjoy these stories and would definitely listen to more. Highly recommend.
I really wanted to like Tyree but her character and how she reacted to some of the events really showed how young and naive she is. I marginally like Maverick a bit more but not by much lol. Both of these characters read really young. Like the brother's best friend troupe though.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
