A whistle on the wind. A trill, a warbled cry, a wavering hum. A song only he seemed to hear echoed on the wind and filled his head with its enchanting music.
Lucian 'Luc' von Ravenstein doesn't believe in Fate. His every step has been decided by others. His noble grandfather made sure he knew his place when he shipped him off to the royal navy at 13. Upon his mother's death, and with a cruel captain eager to claim him, Luc takes life into his own hands.
A daring midnight escape leads him to find work on a smugglers ship. His hopes of making it to a neutral port are dashed, however, when they are attacked by magic vessel straight from his mother's fairytales.
The Fate's Thread is supposed to be a legend. Magic and Monsters aren't real, but Luc can't deny it when he's brought face to face with a real mermaid on the ship's deck. With the blessing of the enthralling captain, Saerys, Luc finds himself on a journey to claim not only his freedom, but his very own destiny. More than adventure awaits Luc, if only he can open his heart to the enigmatic captain with eyes of gold and a smile that make Luc's heart race with fear and desire in equal measure.
The captain had golden eyes, flat and cold like coins. His hair was long and blue, the shaggy layers interspersed with braids and beads, and skin a warm tawny brown. The stretch of his smile seemed too large for his face, teeth too straight, eyes too wide… And yet he was handsome in some impossible way. The unnatural hue of his hair, the shape of his pupils, and the subtle oddness of his features confirmed Luc’s feelings. These weren’t humans.
This is an MM fantasy romance and contains mentions of past SA.

“Well now. I had a feeling you’d be large, but I can’t say I was expecting more than one.”
Yes, I'm leading with diphallia. 4.5 stars rounded up because this was a fantastic short (232 pages) fantasy adventure, with pirates, sirens, and a sentient magical ship, that I easily read in one sitting.
Perfect fit for the last day of the Trans Rights Readathon! A debut book by a nonbinary author and a past freebie from the Monster Stuff Your Kindle Day in 2024.
And what a ship she was! Her sails were gold, shining brightly in the scarlet sunset, the hull was once a vibrant blue – the paint weathered and worn, and black ropes made up the rigging in brilliant contrast. Luc’s jaw hung open. The ship was stunning, simply magical.
Ships, magic, magical creatures, curses, Fate, and lovely prose. This book is an ode to freedom, to finding your place and to storytelling as a balm to the soul. Loved it. And yes, my monsterfudgers will be satisfied too 😂
This book is absolutely gorgeous. Gorgeous prose, gorgeous story, gorgeous characters! For being a bit on the shorter side of a novel, it certainly packed a lot of goodness in it and I would love to read more in this universe. Luc and Saerys were absolutely delightful, and their journey to finding each other through the string of fate had me eager to keep reading. Saerys is not just any sea creature, he's something great and powerful. How his fate weaves with Luc's is so neat, you just have to read it yourself to find out how!
I seriously cannot describe how BEAUTIFUL the writing is, my god!! Elegant is the perfect way to say it. S.R. Garcia is a master of their craft, creating such a rich world with such perfect metaphors and descriptions, along with strong feelings and emotions. I'm not gonna lie, I teared up at the end because it was just so precious 🥹💕 I absolutely adored this book!
Incredible imagination. Intriguing story about personal pain being healed by love and sweet revenge. Luc's love for a sea monster helps heal a life full of pain.

[3.5] this was soooo good. the only part of it i didn’t like was the main relationship help 😭😭 their interactions did /not/ give soulmates and they did like no bonding before they were suddenly so in love. kinda wish that luc ended up with ajax… but maybe im the problem. the story itself ate down, and the writing was so whimsy yet easy to follow.
This book is full of magic and I couldn't put it down. I loved both mcs they were such sweethearts and I loved the magic ship and how it was portrayed here, it made it unique and im so glad we got a hea with these guys as they really deserve it with all the trauma they got put through on these books. Pirate found family tropes are always so good and mash that with the flow of magic everywhere in this book was just chef kiss.
Tropes ⭐️ - mm pirate fantasy - human /siren romance - monster romance - hurt/comfort - grief recovery - mates - magical ship - HEA - Found Family
CW's ⭐️ - past sa - violence/death - double penetration [lets goooo]
I am an alpha reader, and I have been reading this story ever since it was just an idea. It's incredibly exciting to see it here, now - complete and wonderful.
I love the writer's style when describing things, and I love everything about the way they developed the characters and portrayed them. Saerys is captivating and has this mystique and, honestly, I don't blame Luc for being so taken by him. Heavens knows I would be, too.
Luc is someone who has been a victim and who is struggling to find his freedom. He doesn't quite know what his place in the world is, but he's taking it all in stride - because, it he just keeps walking, he is bound to get somewhere.
It's amazing to see where this author has gotten, and I'm excited to see more from them!!

I’m a sucker for any merfolk story, and my god this did not disappoint. I mean, it’s hot, but it’s also so heartfelt.
I’m struggling with some serious grief in my personal life and found a lot of this bizarrely comforting. It was clearly the right time for me to read it.
