Death held no fear for her, especially as she lived the life of a secret assassin. Sharp-witted and seemingly innocent, Hope Taylor had perfected a lifestyle that nobody could rival. Everything had been going according to plan until an unexpected visitor returned home after years. When her best friend’s brother, Theo Jones, returned for his sister's engagement party, he was the last person Hope expected to see. A long-standing rivalry between the two reignited, and she found herself avoiding him at all costs. As she focused on her extracurricular activities to relieve stress, she began to feel watched. Amartolós, her ruthless assassin rival, had one to kill Hope. With devilish charm and a reputation for deadly sins, he found himself caught up in the chase to torment The Angel of Death. However, there was one he didn't know her real identity. As the chase began to catch up to both of them, the interference of feelings raised questions. What will they do to stop each other?
I really liked the concept and the story was good. I just felt like it needed some fine tuning. Formatting & editing would really benefit this book. It was difficult to follow sometime especially when dialogue was happening. But I'd definitely give this author another shot.
So first off….who edited this book? There are capitalization errors, spelling mistakes, and missing punctuation. I mean “sue chef”….c’mon! The dialogue was hard to follow because of all of the errors. The timeline of flashbacks didn’t make sense. Flashback of Hope and Theo three years ago…but Joely was three years old…that doesn’t track.
The plot and concept were cute, but the execution of this book definitely needs to be reevaluated by the publishers…
Okay, I read this book after I got a reel on my feed from another bookstagrammer and I was hooked on it, like, the kind where you want to keep everything aside and read the book though you already know the book is going to shatter your heart, tear it into pieces and then glue it back.
Hope Taylor, My Girl, she's strong, witty, positive minded, a single mother, a successful lawyer, and a assassin ( whom everyone wants to end cuz she's just too strong ). Her early life was tragic af, yk the type where the parents don't deserve to be the parents?? Exactly. The only anchor in her life was her grand mother, Mary Allen. Then comes the love of her life, and her cute daughter, Joele.
When I started the book, it was a whole mystery of qho the lover boy is, and then Reed came in, Theo came in, and the masked man assassin guy. Confusing af... Somewhere in the between, I did doubt that Theo was the lover boy, but then if he was, why were they talking so normally? The tension was there, but it didn't feel like broken couple tension. It was just like, I want to save you from a douchebag of a guy who doesn't deserve you ( and also maybe I'm a lil, okay, who am I kidding, A LOT possessive ).
Then I wondered how Reed's story is going to end, and when it did, I couldn't believe the guy was such a douchebag with a capital D. I got the flashbacks of Ryle and Lily no kidding. Then when Theo took the charge and was like "WHO DID THIS" ARGHHHH
WE ALL MELT HERE, DON'T WE!???
The suspense was suspensing and the twist at the end?? Not expected trust me. What was that?? Theo is the MAN for his family, and also Hope. The way he fought and even when he knew he'd die, he didn't disclose abt Marie and Bella's whereabouts.
Now, who could've thought the guy who used to sulk abt relationships would be the BOSS!! LUCAS MY GUY WOW.
Bella? I hate her. She was sus af a few times but I ignored it. She's the problem!! How, just how?? She's your bestfriend, you saw her suffer, still, your freakin heart didn't melt?? Bitch what!??
The problems were the writing!! It took hella time for me to understand how Kathryn wrote, the perspectives and stuff. Because it was so new, and confusing, initially I read the same sentences 2-3 times to understand who's speaking. And the typos, oh god forbid. The book needed a very good editing, It feels like it was just published, the first draft was published off. The grammatical mistakes were awful and also, I think sometimes, the names were just shuffled off.
Such an emotionally attaching, thrilling, and fun piece of literature. Emily Kathryn’s debut novel knows how to bring it’s characters to life and completely captivate the reader. Absolutely read this book if you love thrillers, romances, and all things in between.
Came from TikTok to give this a try, and it’s not the worst I’ve read, but this book definitely needs a lot more editing. I focusing on errors, which made it really hard to connect to the characters.
Starting off with a single mother who works as a lawyer☺️ and also she works as a hitman🫠 I was starting this book with just looking at the cover and thought it was a cute romance but it was a lot more than I thought, which is a good thing🤩 as the mystery of who the father is put me on a spin all around and made me dizzy, the mystery was very exciting😁 lots of action and a lot more than I bargained for⭐️4
So this book was truly the unrealistic book I have ever read, but it was well written so i gave ⭐️⭐️⭐️ there were a few errors and the plot was a bit faulty but all in all this is a good book especially for all delulu girls who want to accomplish everything
Spoilers: Hope is a 25 year old single mother, junior associate lawyer and a sniper? The last one was described wildly in the book but the author forgot to tell why
For me it was to unrealistic that hope is a lawyer and a sniper, because someone who defends murders at court will not kill like 5 men every week even for the money, but this is just my opinion
The second one that bothered me a bit was that Theo was also like a sniper and they killed so many people together, like what are the odds that you don’t recognise the eyes, mouth and voice from the love of your life??
This book had like all tropes that are currently trendy : Best friends brother, surprise and secret pregnancies, no talking, super Wonder Woman female Charakter, bad family, best friends betrayal and so on…

I saw it coming from a mile away, which was unfortunate. I like a good plottwist. All in all, a good book, but it was just to predictable for me. Wouldn't read again ):
This book has SO much potential. It’s just hard to look past all of the grammar mistakes. This would have easily been a 4-5 star book without all of the mistakes!

Why would a lawyer think the only way to get rid of the monsters in the world is by playing vigilante? And why is a single mother of a 2-year-old with a full-time job out and about playing Batman every night? And her double-life vigilante boss’s boss being her silly goose colleague? Bffr
I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt this need to do it now. I went into this book blind. I came across it and immediately downloaded it. I finished it within a day and I loved it entirely. It kept me thinking all throughout the book. This book is so beautifully written although it took me awhile to understand the writing style(especially during dialogue) but I got the hang of it. I didn’t expect certain things to be in it based on just the cover. I was so surprised and enthralled with new realizations I came across within the book. This book will have a special place in my heart and I am forever grateful to have read this beautiful story. I applaud the author and her creativeness. I will be sure to look into the author because I need more books by her!! Shifted just made it into my top favorite books list.
When I first started reading this book, I thought the plot was moving slower than I would’ve liked. It wasn’t until maybe 60% of the way through when things started to pick up for me. I was originally going to give this book three stars, but I added a fourth because the concept of the plot was good. I spent a good portion of the book wondering where the story was going to go. I consistently contemplated whether the man behind the mask and the man in Hope’s heart was the men (or man) I thought it to be. Not only was I delighted by the ending (which also contributed to my rating), but I completed 2 12-3-30s at the gym without dying because I had this book to distract me (so for that, I owe this book an extra star LOL).
I found this book through a video posted on TikTok by the author and immediately started reading it. It had me hooked from the very beginning and I just couldn’t stop reading afterwards. Their story is so heartbreaking beautiful. This book will make you laugh, cry, scream, and eat all the snacks in your pantry. My only regret is that is not a series I’m honestly going to miss hope and Theo.
the writing/publishing made it difficult to understand who was speaking, random spelling errors throughout plot was interesting, felt unique, though the twist of theo being amortolos was quite predictable, but it is funny how she doesn't recognise anything about him despite the many interactions they've had lucas being the "boss" felt like a random occurence as well story had good pacing throughout

I’m not one for a mystery romance. But I couldn’t put this book down, I cried, laughed and felt my heart melt. Sure, there are a few edits that can be made here and there but it’s nothing distracting. From her wattpad account she seems like a young author, so I give her props for this book. I found it absolutely captivating and beautiful. I can’t wait to read more of what she’s got.
I really liked the story and the concept of this book. However, it definitely seems as if it lacked professional editing with the writing type. It was often difficult to follow what was happening in the story.
So much potential!!! Loved the bones of the book. Personally I struggled with the way it was written but eventually got into it. Very good twists in the story!! I just felt that there was a few holes in the story and a few loose end left over at the end. Overall not a bad read
I enjoyed this book! There were grammatical errors and it was unrealistic but I really enjoyed reading it. I will definitely read another book by the same author whenever she comes out with one
Honestly this book has a lot of potential but.... it could use some editing and by some I mean A LOT. Like I didn't know half the time who was saying what and the spelling errors are fine like I could deal with that but the other stuff hell nah. I DNF it 50% in.
