Desperate to avoid the turmoil that now engulfs her, Dee would do anything for a chance to turn back time. Wracked with regret and paralyzed by fear, she is forced to hide halfway across the world, all in a bid to safeguard the one person she holds most dear. If only she could undo the past and prevent this disastrous situation from ever unfolding.
After waiting five long years, Luke thought he was finally making progress in his relationship with Dee. But just as she begins to open up and trust him, she suddenly vanishes, leaving him bewildered and determined to uncover the truth behind her sudden disappearance.
Anne Gibson’s debut novel is an action-packed, second-chance romance featuring a relatable protagonist who must confront her inner darkness in order to discover her faith. In the middle of her path is a bold hero who steadfastly clings to his beliefs as he overcomes uncertainty.
Perfect for fans of Terri Blackstock, Dee Henderson, and Lynette Eason, Misgivings is a clean, faith-based romantic suspense filled with redemption, second chances, and heart-pounding emotion.
This is a complicated story. But sometimes love is complicated. In Luke’s presence, Dee regains some form of confidence and learns to trust, but when her abusive ex pulls her back down with his horrible ways, she disappears. I love that the other wasn’t afraid of difficult subject matter and that the story had an international aspect, which included Colombia. If you’re a fan of edgy, Christian fiction, Misgivings by Anne Gibson is the right story for you.
This is a grittier Christian fiction book that delves into domestic violence and as such, may be challenging for some readers as it goes quite in-depth into the various forms of abuse that can take place in relationships. As a story, it raises awareness into how domestic violence can affect anybody. As a message that imparts empathy, it demonstrates why it's not always easy to have an exit available. With readers being able to get into Dee's mind, it makes her relatable, as if she could be one of our own friends or a colleague who is hiding something that is threatening her life. While not a breezy read, it's an important one as it shows how we can support those around us who may be suffering.
One of the things that stands out in this book is the extent to which people will act in desperation, whether they are the victim or the perpetrator. It's against this backdrop that Dee finds she needs God's help most. I appreciate that things aren't tied up with neat solutions along the way, indicating our ongoing reliance on Him. The last part of the book is quite jam-packed, so prepare yourself for all of the emotional twists possible, with a gratifying end to come. Readers who enjoy action and plenty of drama will find much to experience in Misgivings.
Misgivings’ was one of those books that pulled me in from the very first page. The pacing was absolutely perfect. I flew through it because it was just that easy to read. The author did a great job creating a storyline that felt both fresh and emotionally engaging. The premise was super interesting and had me genuinely invested in where things were going. However, I’m not a fan of the miscommunication trope, and unfortunately, there is a lot of it throughout the story. Some of the issues in the book could’ve been resolved if the characters had just talked to each other! I especially found it frustrating that Maggie and Jeff were left completely in the dark, and somehow didn’t notice what was clearly developing between Dee and Luke. Are they really that oblivious? Still, despite those frustrations, I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, compelling, and surprisingly heartwarming. Luke was a total sweetheart, and I can overlook the communication gaps because the story as a whole was just so satisfying. 4.5 ⭐️ (like almost 5. It is so good!)
Dee believes she's in a solid relationship, all seems to be going well... that is,until she finds out her boyfriend is cheating. In the midst of his lies, he shows his true colors, and it forces Dee to have to take stock of her choices. She moved in with a man, unmarried, and he was very unkind to her. She did everything in her power to "make it work" because she had " given him everything" when really she needed to give all her shame over to God. As her world is flipped upside down along comes her childhood friend/ her best friends brother, Luke. Luke is everything Mark is not. He is very much the friend she needs at this time and shows her how she should be treated. As one relationship is closing , a second chance at a romance seems to be happening. But it can't... Just when things seem to look up for Dee, something happens that forces her to have to leave behind everything and everyone, for good.
Luke has always loved Dee. But he was content with being her friend as long as he knew she was happy. And he prayed continually for her to find God. As things between him and Dee seem to finally stand a chance, he decides he wants to share ALL of his true feelings for her. But unfortunately for him... he does just that, and finds out shortly after... Dee is gone! No one knows why, but they know she says she will not be returning.
What is going on with Dee, can Luke find her and see why she left? Could they have a future? Or did he scare her off by confessing his true feelings?
This story is so full of faith, redemption, suspense, friendship, and most of all love. Luke is such a godly example of a man, and his patience and kindness towards Dee was so wonderful to see. And his letters... so sweet! I loved that this story tackled the shame believers feel when they knowingly step out of God's plan, and struggle to get back on track. We can not fix our mistakes, we have to acknowledge them, repent and get back on track with God's guidance. Dee needed to see it all wasn't a lost cause, she could start over, she still deserved love and a godly man who loved and respected her. Loved this story! Keep on writing Anne!
This book captured my attention right away, and I liked how for the most part it felt fast paced - which I personally enjoy better than slower paced books. It kept me engaged the whole time, and I kept wanting to read to see what happened next, especially after hitting the 50% mark.
In a lot of ways this felt like a suspenseful Hallmark movie, even though some of the content was much different than what you'd see in those movies. I enjoyed Luke's character, and appreciated that he was dedicated to not dating Dee when she wasn't a Christian (although in real life I would also recommend waiting longer after someone becomes a Christian before dating them, but for the sake of the story I understand it kept the plot moving).
I also liked Dee's character growth, especially in her becoming a Christian in the book. I do feel like the gospel, and specifically that Jesus loved her and saved her no matter how many bad decisions she made in the past, could've been expanded on a bit more, but in all I'm glad this was a key plot point.
One of the few things I didn't enjoy as much was the lack of communication/miscommunication/assumptions between some of the characters at multiple points throughout the book, but that is just a personal preference thing for me and it's one of the things that always annoys me. It was not enough to keep me from wanting to read the book or from enjoying it.
Content: deals with topics of abuse, r*pe, kidnapping/torture, and violence, but all of it is not detailed or graphic, and I believe was mentioned in very tactful ways. Some kisses that are not detailed.
Overall, if you enjoy a clean Christian suspense read, you will likely enjoy this book! 😄
I was given a free copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.
Dee thought she and Mark would eventually marry, so she never questioned his late nights or frequent absences. Mark believes she should submit to him, using manipulation and threats to keep control. It all comes out in the open when Mark wields his power in public. Fearing for her loved ones, Dee disappears to a foreign country, and when Luke—who has secretly loved her for years—realizes she’s gone, he’ll stop at nothing to bring her home.
This book had me hooked immediately. Mostly because I wanted to shake some sense into Dee. Mark is beyond a psychopath and Dee is very clearly an abused woman. As is proven by Mark’s treatment of her after Dee finally comes to her senses and tries to rid herself of Mark. Luke, a soldier, is a wonderful and caring man and the polar opposite of Mark. But Dee pushes him away because she is afraid of relationships and feels she needs to protect Luke from Mark. Dee felt responsible for everything that happened around her, even though she had no control over the actions of others.
The book brought up images of redemption, being a martyr for Christ, and learning the hard way how God’s love can set you free. Dee was well-written. It was easy to see how Dee's relationship with Mark impacted her emotionally. Dee seemed to think her issues were with her family and it was this thinking that got her into such a poor relationship. I especially enjoyed Luke's character. He is a man of conviction and does not waver from his truth or love of God. He makes me want a better relationship with God too.
The thing that got me was the end. This book cried out for an epilogue of six months to a year later. Even though my Kindle said 100%, I kept swiping thinking, “Surely this isn't it”. Don't get me wrong, the ending was good. I just wanted more. That's how good this is. Anyone who enjoys romance with a high level of suspense, or those who appreciate a strong Christian theme, will enjoy this book.
Trigger Warning: domestic emotional abuse, non-graphic violence, non-descriptive rape, kidnapping/torture, and death. If I had known about this, I most likely would not have read it but for me, it turned out not to be an issue and I am so glad I read the book.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All opinions are my own.
Misgivings is a book that makes you think you know the story from the description but surprises you along the way. There is a flash-forward scene in the beginning, but I found that I was wrong about every conclusion I drew. I appreciate that the author kept me on my toes as I read, and it made the story more exciting.
I don’t give 5 stars easily, but this book earned it primarily because of the hold it had on me. I found myself thinking about the story throughout work and counting down the time until I could read what happened next. I enjoyed Luke!! Dee’s decision-making could be frustrating at times, but part of that came from being the victim of abuse (and keeping the plot rolling, which is something we all love to hate).
This book was not written perfectly, and I am generally very picky in this area, but I enjoyed the story so much that it didn’t keep me from finishing it.
I was trying to think about how I would describe this story, and I decided that I thought of it as a dark, more stressful Hallmark movie. The one thing I really missed was a sweet epilogue. In all, I’d recommend this book as a fast read that keeps you guessing what will happen next.
I received a free ebook in return for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
This story will keep you hooked from page 1! True human Love might stay silent for a long time, but like God’s love, it never gives up. Very well done!!!
I’d actually rate this 3 1/2 stars. I quite enjoyed the story and adored Luke! The second half of the book is full of twists and turns. The one thing that kept bugging me though was the practicality of Dee just up and leaving her job. How could she afford her medical bills and a new apartment? I think I would have liked to know more about Mark’s background or had the character developed a little more. Also, the book does need a thorough edit because there are a lot of grammatical errors. The overall story is good though!

Anne, the author reached out to me to read her new book, and I am so glad she did! I truly enjoyed this book and Anne did such a great job creating these characters and the storyline. This book isn’t just a romance book, it has a lot of drama and action in it, which I really enjoyed. I gave this book a 4 star rating out of 5 simply because I am not a huge romance lover, and the main character frustrated me a little bit. This book is about a girl named Dee who has found herself in a dangerous relationship. The book starts off with a bang with a cheating boyfriend and assault. Dee’s best friend from college Maggie is getting married. While they are at the rehearsal dinner, Dee finds Mark, her first serious boyfriend who she lives with, out to dinner with another woman in a red dress. After a heated discussion, Mark loses his temper and ends up pushing Dee off a second story balcony. The groom (Jeffrey) and best man (Luke) come to her rescue. While Jeffrey, a doctor, makes sure that Dee is not seriously injured, Luke, a veteran, chases down Mark and holds him until the cops come. This begins a series of events where Dee is fighting for her safety and separation from Mark. I really enjoyed the sequence of action events and I did finish this book in only a few days. I could not put it down! I really appreciated the Christian characters in the book and the openness about their faith. Luke is honestly my dream man. I gave this a 4 star rating because I did not enjoy Dee’s responses to her ex. Now I personally have not been in an abusive relationship and cannot not relate to someone who has suffered through that. I was frustrated that she ran away and thought she was protecting a person (Luke) who is perfectly capable of protecting himself. I wish she would have went to the authorities and been truthful with her friends sooner. So Dee did kind of frustrate me, but maybe it was also because I have a bit of a crush on Luke. Overall I thought this was a great book, very well written and I cannot wait to see more books by this author!
Review I wasn’t sure what to expect when going into Misgivings by Anne Gibson. It is a story that showcases growing and steadfast faith. I don’t normally read contemporary suspense so it took a bit for me to get into it but halfway through I was fully committed.
The characters have deep struggles to overcome. Dee is such a timid character and tries to do the best for those around her. I had a hard time reading about some of the things she went through, both from Mark and other events. Luke is an amazing example of what a strong Christian man should aspire to be. The villain in this novel is just awful.
Misgivings feels like an uphill battle. There were some devastating scenes as well as proof of God’s presence through hard times. The only thing that threw me off occasionally was the point-of-view. Sometimes the POV would change mid scene. It was something that I had to get used to. It really wasn’t bad and didn’t stop me from enjoying it. Overall though, Misgivings was a lovely story of light overcoming dark.
No-Spice Rating: light kissing - @ssault, t0rture, mental and physical @buse Language: Clean Faith Elements: ✝️ Christian fiction
I was not at all expecting this book to be what it was but I was pleasantly surprised. When I started in on Misgivings I was kind of confused. I didn't really know what was going on but it did not begin how I thought a Christian contemporary romance would. Even the cool but ominous cover was throwing me off. The further I got drawn into the story through I was hooked. Somehow from the beginning when I hardly knew these characters, I became maybe a bit too invested in their lives. Even when their miscommunication was upsetting me I found myself rooting for the characters as they grew on their journeys. But despite how I wanted things to turn out it seemed the book had other plans to complicate things. The story had me up late with its suspense, I felt like the elements of faith and redemption were woven in really well, and the romance completed the balance. If you are a fan of romantic suspense I would highly recommend Misgivings.
Content note: Misgivings deals with some more mature issues including SA, and other vi0lenc3 but how explicitly these things are described is limited
I really enjoyed reading this book by a debut author!
It is filled with lots of action, suspense and romance.
Luke is such a super stellar guy. His faith guides him throughout his life and the decisions that he makes. I love what he does to show his love to others.
Maggie is such a great friend. She opens up her house to her friend and is always there for her.
Dee has had so many struggles in life but she keeps on fighting. I enjoyed how she struggles with her faith and the journey that she takes.
There is some domestic abuse and assault in the story that may be hard for some to read.
Thanks to the author for the arc. The opinions are my own.
This book was recommended to me and I loved it. Didn’t want to put it down. This book clearly demonstrates what true love is. The love of Christ shines through everything you do.
Yes, there are very difficult situations - reader, beware. At times it was a challenging read. The scenarios the FMC finds herself in is heartbreaking and life threatening. The author provides just enough description without being graphic, for which I am thankful. There’s several twists, turns, and surprises. I loved the MMC; I believe most every woman hopes and prays for a man like Luke. If you can overlook the occasional editing errors and redundancy of sentence structure - and perhaps even if you can’t - then you just might find yourself thoroughly enjoying this novel.
I was gifted this book by Anne Gibson to give it an honest review.
I loved the prologue, it had me hooked! I wanted to know what had happened immediately. I didn't really like Dee. The story felt a bit repetitve at times. I wanted to like the story so bad, but it just wasn't for me.😕
Anne's romantic suspense novel captivates readers with its compelling narrative, weaving together the engaging journey of Dee and Luke. The story masterfully balances heart-pounding suspense with genuine emotional depth, creating a rich tapestry of relationships, friendship, and spiritual resonance. From the beginning, the plot grips readers, compelling them to eagerly turn each page in anticipation of the next unexpected twist. This book is an absolute must-read for anyone seeking a suspenseful and heartwarming literary experience.
Trigger warning: domestic and emotional abuse, non graphic violence, non descriptive r*ape, kidnapping/torture and death.
"Dee looked up and caught Luke watching her. Standing up, she hooked her purse over her shoulder. She walked over to Luke and stopped a few steps away from him. Hesitating, she adjusted the weight of the purse on her shoulder. She looked like she wanted to say something but couldn't. Luke had never seen her look so lost or helpless before. Closing the gap, he put his hand on her shoulder and asked, "Are you okay?" Dee nodded, but her eyes filled with tears."
Dee has made wrong choices throughout her life. Living with Mark tops the list, especially as he refuses to let her go. But the one good thing that comes out of everything is she finally looks to God for help and healing. Luke could be another good thing, but only if she can learn to trust him too.
The description of this book is certainly accurate. Faith is important, and both the right and wrong type of romantic love is on display. Mark is a powder keg, so he certainly adds to both the suspense and the action. As for the drama, that might be mainly Dee. I felt impatient with her at times as there seemed to be better solutions to her struggles than running away.
Dee wants to do the right thing, but she definitely falls short quite often. Luke continues to be a steady person. He lives out unconditional love. I could see how his efforts to continue to come to her rescue could be a picture of Christ. We certainly fall short and are helpless, yet God loves us no matter what. He waits for us to come to Him because he is our only hope. Note: while not graphic, the main character is abused and some descriptions are provided that could be triggering for certain readers.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. A few parts frustrated me because the main character's choices were unpredictable and seemed unnecessary. But what I appreciated is the fact that this book had a unique plot. I liked the side characters, and I liked the message that none of us are without hope. We are all worth saving thanks to a Savior who loves us in spite of ourselves. Final rating: 4.5 stars
This book had so many ups and owns, twists and turns. My heart truly broke for Dee and the pain, fear, and confusion she felt. As relationships grow and deepen, then get tossed around, I have to say I was rooting for Dee to have a happy ending. Does she? The reader will have to read and figure it out themselves…
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
This was a very emotional read and one that will stay with you for a while. Dee comes from an abusive relationship and Luke is there to help her through it all but Dee’s Ex has other ideas. Dee goes on the run to protect those she loves but danger finds her while she is hiding out as well. Luke comes to the rescue but will he make it in time?
Emotional read with difficult topics in this book and may be sensitive to some.
Misgivings is a Christian romance and suspense story about a young woman named Dee who finds herself struggling with an unexpected situation that fills her with heartache, regret, and fear. Her friends don't know the full extent of what's going on, and if she can help it they never will. Dee grapples with her own insecurities and faith doubts, while also trying to protect the ones she loves most.
This story really takes the reader on a wild ride where it continually ripped my heart out and put it back together just in time to rip it out and shred it all over again. I'm not complaining about that, I love when I get drug through on a ride such as this.
I'm not sure what else to say without adding spoilers in but if you don't have any triggers and enjoy Christian fiction with some suspense then I would recommend checking this one out. I enjoyed this story and the characters, especially Luke. Though, I did have a bit of a hard time with how the POVs changed randomly throughout the story, once I got used to it, it worked out okay.
Feel free to contact me if you'd like some more information on what kind of content and possible triggers to expect with this story.
I received an advanced review copy of this book. This review is my honest opinion and thoughts.
dark, emotional, hopeful, reflective, sad, tense, fast-paced 4.5 Stars!
This is an excellent book. It was hard to put down, and if it had been an audiobook I could listen to while doing tasks, I probably would have finished it in just a couple of days.
This book might be difficult for survivors of abusive relationships. The suspense is handled well, the traumatic scenes are not graphic, and the reader understands what happens, even though it "fades to black" and is kept off-screen. I found myself frustrated with Dee at times—she keeps so much to herself and doesn’t share with those around her who might be able to help. However, I’ve never experienced the things she goes through, so I can understand why she made the choices she did to protect the people she loves.
Maggie, although she always wants what is best for her best friend, and brother, seems a tad out of touch about what that means. She annoyed me a little bit, even though she was always in protective sister/friend mode.
I adore Luke. His character is an incredible example of a man relying on God to provide. His faithful prayers for his friends and family, along with the way he lives his life, are wonderful examples of dying to self and striving to live more like Christ.
"'The Bible doesn't promise that it will get easier. In fact, quite often, it gets harder.' "'But why, if God loves us...' Luke cut off that thought. "'It's because there is a war between good and bad. You made a huge decision, and the enemy hates you for choosing the right side. Quite often, the enemy tries to make life harder in order to scare you away from your initial decision... Life is hard anyway. It’s just much harder without Christ.'"
Content Warnings Minor: Bullying, Death, Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Gun violence, Physical abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Torture, Toxic relationship, Violence, Blood, Kidnapping, Grief, Stalking, Death of parent, Murder, Pregnancy, Gaslighting, and Injury/Injury detail
This book addresses the difficult topic of a woman surviving an emotionally abusive relationship. Once, she believed he had rescued her. Over time, however, her boyfriend began gaslighting her. When she caught him cheating, he became physically abusive and unhinged as his life started to unravel.
What a suspenseful first book of the year! I appreciated Anne Gibson’s story in this book! I loved Luke from the beginning and really enjoyed his character. I think I relate to him a lot! Maybe it’s an oldest sibling thing! He really stepped up for Dee and I thought that was really special. He was a great metaphor for the way Jesus often approaches us as His children: patient, forgiving, loving, and rescuing.
I also loved Dee’s journey to faith and the portrayal of how hypocritical Christians can come off and her journey back to God from that. There were lots of Biblical truths woven in that I enjoyed!
I had a couple things I took some issue with in this book, for example, the point of view switched around a little too swiftly. That was a preference and could be because of how my brain works (or doesn’t work). This pulled me out of the story a bit. There were also a couple characters I had issues with and struggled to root for/enjoy, so that is why I chose my rating.
The suspense never stopped either! A lot definitely happens over the course of this book! Overall, still pretty glad I picked up this book! It was a very unique twist to this type of story and I enjoyed reading it!
Content Guide: Language: None Spice: Level 1 TW: Intimacy before marriage implied, cheating, domestic emotional manipulation, physical abuse, violence (non-graphic), sexual assault (not descriptive), kidnapping/torture, death
This book was a roller coaster ride! With interesting characters, a relentless villain and edge of your seat suspense, it's one adventure you don't want to miss!
I was given this book for review by Anne Gibson and I want to start out by saying that the overall storyline was pretty interesting to me. As the stakes increased especially the last 40 - 70 pages of the book, I refused to put it down due to the tension and the lives at risk. I was up till 1:30am watching everything unfold.
That being said I overall did not enjoy this book. There were a few spelling errors throughout the book and there's a particular scene at the beginning of the book that was repeated 3 times with slightly different wording which should have been caught in the editing phase.
I didn't enjoy Dee as a character and found her quite frustrating to read about. I kept being told she was special, one of a kind but none of her actions provided any evidence to the claim.
The only people I really liked we Luke and Maggie. We got far too little on Jeffery for me to be attached to him. But one could argue the same for Maggie, through I'm biased towards female best friends so I'm letting it slide though I wish we got more of her as a character. She would have been an amazing support system.
Luke was a great representation of a good godly man and I was only ever rooting for him (sorry Esteban) since his emotions always had rational/logical roots which I greatly appreciated.
This is in great contrast to Dee as this was not the case for her. Her being emotional in the situations she found herself in was 1000% reasonable. The issues I have with her is what she chose to do in her emotional state which greatly diminished my enjoyment.
This book also contains stalking from an ex partner and abuse from said partner, however it's not super graphic but the content does exist.
I did enjoy some aspects of the faith content and appreciated this book for showcasing Christians who suffer and how we overcome that suffering with the Lord and His people.
Misgivings is the debut novel by author Anne Gibson, and is a wonderful and powerful story that speaks of great things to come in the future from her as a writer.
I read a lot of Christian suspense, and I always feel that stories that dive into darker content need a lot of Jesus to provide a ray of light in an otherwise heavy story. That's definitely the case with this one, as though many of the plot points are heart wrenching and hard to read about, all are used in a way that helps Dee discover who God is, and that He has a plan through all the valleys and shadows if she can only reach out and trust Him.
The romance is sweet and slightly tumultuous since much of it is taking place after Dee removes herself from a domestic abuse situation. She's struggling to replace what she's known about love in the past with what Luke is freely offering her now. I enjoyed the way he gave her space and time to process everything, while still making sure she knew that he was willing to be there for her in whatever way she needed.
The writing was spot on, and I had a hard time wanting to put this one down. I'm going to briefly say that the author tackles several tough subjects gracefully, but just be forewarned that domestic abuse, guerilla warfare, and r*pe all play roles throughout the course of this story, and you'll want to be prepared if you are triggered by any of those situations.
All in all, I think this is a fantastic debut novel and I'm excited see what this author has in store for readers in the future.
Final Rating: 4/5.
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense novels with a heavy faith presence, and a beautiful romance element.
Thanks so much to the author for providing me with a complimentary copy to read and review!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.
Thank you Anne Gibson for a copy of your book to read.
This is a clean Christian suspense romance.
Dee learns that her partner is cheating on her. When she starts to question him about it, he gets angry and shoves her off a balcony.
Luke is Dee’s best friend’s brother and has been in love with Dee for years. However, after college he joined the army without telling anyone, and was fighting in a war for 3 years. While away, Luke prayed that Dee would find her faith in God and that he’d have a chance with her when he got back. However, Dee moved in with Mark.
Dee feels that since she gave herself completely to Mark outside of marriage she wants to reconcile, and claims to still love him. But his controlling abuse continues and Dee starts to finally realize that Mark doesn’t love her and she is better off without him. But alas, Mark continues to show up - using, abusing, and finally threatens to kill her and Luke. Acting on pure emotion, Dee runs and tries to hide.
This book did suck me in from the start and the last 70ish pages really kept me glued to the story. I do have to admit that there were several times that I wanted to reach through the pages and shake Dee and Luke because they just wouldn’t have a conversation. Or I’d get frustrated because they were finally going to have a conversation and they’d get interrupted and never come back to it. I also wish that we would have gotten closure with what happened to Dee’s aunt and Uncle, Luna and Carlos, and Esteban. And was Jorge taken care of or did he get away? I also would have loved a little more at the end.
While the story takes on some heavy topics, they are handled with care and nothing is described in graphic detail.
Content: abuse(emotional and physical), sexual assault, rape, beatings, kidnapping, alcohol, shootings, tax evasion, militants, hostages, death of a child
I was given a complimentary copy and the views and opinions are solely mine.
Misgivings is a debut novel but a promising new author. If this book is a preview she’s going to do amazing things! This book is full of faith and forgiveness.
Our main character is Dee. Dee has not always been on the straight and narrow and there are things from her past that haunt her. When that haunting of the past starts to catch up to her she must leave behind the only good thing in her life.
But what if he’s not ready to let her go?
Luke is Dee’s friend. But he loves her. He’d love to have a relationship with her. But she’s been living with a man that doesn’t treat her right. When she finally leaves him she in essence leaves Luke too because she’s trying to make a break and get away.
Can Luke find Dee and help her?
There is drama in this book. And as I did mention you have people living together before marriage but there isn’t anything that will make you blush. There is suspense in the book. You’re going to want to keep reading. The characters are great.
I feel like we can all relate to Dee. To have things that we just don’t want to give to God, to think we’re not enough. And even thinking that we are defined by our actions and our wrongs. That we can’t rise above them.
This was a great book and I enjoyed reading it.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Misgivings: A Second-Chance Romance with Suspense and Faith Haunted by regret and fear, Dee flees overseas to protect her loved one, leaving her best friend's brother, Luke, who's waited five years for her trust, searching for answers. This gripping debut novel weaves suspense, faith, and healing into a story of second chances.
Highlights: * Dee's Journey: A raw and compelling story of a heroine navigating trauma and finding faith. Her choices, while sometimes frustrating, add depth to her character. * Luke's Steadfastness: Luke is a patient, protective, and faith-filled hero. His unwavering support for Dee makes him admirable. * Faith Themes: The novel beautifully explores trusting God through life's hardships.
Reading Advisory: This book contains themes of domestic abuse, gaslighting, stalking, and assault. While not graphic, these scenes are emotionally intense.
Final Thoughts: While suspenseful novels aren't my preference, "Misgivings" is compelling for those who enjoy faith-centered stories, suspenseful second-chance romances, and heroes who lead with love and protection. It's a 3.5⭐️ for me
