This book is an unveiling of the difference between our natural human life, and the knowledge that is derived from our five senses, in the Life and Nature of God. Eternal life is the Nature of God. The Greek word is "Zo?", the new kind of Life that Jesus brought to the world. It is a strange thing that the Church has majored "manner of life" or "behavior" rather than Eternal life which determines in a very large way the "manner of life". Receiving Eternal Life is the most miraculous incident or event in live. It is called conversion, the New Birth, and the New Creation. Some have called it "getting religion". It is, in reality, God imparting His very Nature, Substance and Being to our human spirits. The New Creation, then, is a miracle thing. It is man receiving the very life and nature of God Almighty. This nature of God recreates man's spirit and makes him a new species among men. The Church has never majored this New Creation fact. Its leaders have never realized the possibilities that this New Nature offers to men. This book is a thrilling study of what this Life and Nature of God means to the child of God. This book is not a new Philosophy, it is an unveiling of a lost truth, the most vital of all that God has given to us in Christ. It will thrill and challenge you.
"It is a strange thing that the Church has majored 'manner of life' or 'behaviour' rather than Eternal Life which determines in a very large way the 'manner of life.' Receiving Eternal Life . . . It is, in reality, God imparting His very Nature, Substance, and Being to our human spirits. . . Christianity gives to man God's very own Nature." (2)
"The philosopher cannot find anything outside of himself unless it comes from some other being." (7) // as C.S. Lewis said in Miracles, a system cannot change of itself and cannot understand things outside of itself unless aided by that which is outside
"I used to wonder what it was that made some who had been criminals such enthusiastic Christians. I knew that there was nothing in the forgiveness of sin that would do it. I knew that if all God did for a man was to forget his past, to pardon it, the man would go on and have another past. Forgiveness has no power to change a man's nature. Then I found out about Eternal Life." (8)
"Our popular Christianity is the product in part of the Dark Ages. It is not the Christianity of the Pauline Epistles. Consequently there is much said about sin, and Repentance for sin, but there is little said about Eternal Life. If it were possible for God to forgive a sinner his sins, it would do him no good, because he would go on sinning. The thing that the sinner must have is a New Nature. He must be Recreated." (13) // this is a beginning to my struggle with the idea of evangelism, essentially: why should a sinner care that his sins were forgiven?
"...the very substance and being of God has become a part of our spirits." (17) // C.S. Lewis' Miracles so much life He had life to give away and yet lose nothing of Himself.
"The New Creation should never be put under condemnation. If sin comes, we should confess it, put it away, and walk on with Him." (17)
"The Church has made more of the manner of living than it has of the Life that would make our living like the Master's." (19) // not to act saved, to be saved. to be alive.
"We have majored conduct, conversation, and habits because they are in the Sense realm. They have always appealed to the babes in Christ. We like to be told what we can do and what we cannot do." (20)
"It [Eternal Life] is receiving God's Life into our spirits. It is receiving the Creative Ability of God." (21)
"We have reckoned unto men their trespasses. We have kept them 'trespass-minded.' We have kept them conscious of their weaknesses and failings. We have preached sin instead of Eternal Life. We have preached judgement instead of reconciliation, when God has committed unto us the 'word of reconciliation.' [2 Cor. 5:18]" (22)
"'Him who knew no sin God made to become sin that we might become the righteousness of God in him.' [2 Cor. 5:21]" (23) // Christ was not made sin so that we could be forgiven or redeemed of that sin, but so we could become His righteousness. not sin focused.
"Man is not lost because of what he does, but because of what he is. You ca see now that forgiveness of what a man does would not reach the issue. He must have a new nature." (28)
"There should never be the question of whether this person or that person is a child of God. If he walks in love, he is a child of God. If he does not walk in love, he is either out of fellowship and not walking with the Father, or else he has never received Eternal Life." (29)
"And He wants me to know that He cares for me; that my burdens are His. He wants me to cast every anxiety upon Him. Isn't that beautiful? This is the most attractive feature of this Divine Life. He said, 'Be not dismayed, for I am thy Father-God.'" (31)
"He declared: 'All authority hath been given unto me in Heaven and on earth. Go ye, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.' He didn't say, 'make converts,' but 'make disciples' - students. He wanted men and women who would enter into their privileges and take their places as sons and daughters in the Family of God." (34)
"We do not have to do a thing but simply repeat the Name of Jesus, and demons are defeated. [*scripture reference]" (34)
"Christianity is a biological miracle. Christianity is not a religion. It is the imparted Life or Nature of God in man." (37)
"God has not lost His Godhood. [so how can anyone believe that the time of miracles has passed away?] . . . John 1:4 : 'In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.'" (39) // C.S. Lewis Miracles ch11 p91 that He is so brimful of existence that He can give it away and lose nothing
"You will not be afraid of any circumstance, of any disease, or of any condition. You will fearlessly face life - a conqueror. After a while you will find that Romans 8:37 is true: 'Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors.' You will never be a conqueror until you confess it." (59)
"When you confess your weakness and your disease you are openly confessing that the Word of God is not true and that GOd has failed to make it good." (60)
"We should never confess our sins to people. We may have to ask forgiveness of them, but then we are to forget it. Never tell anyone about your weakness or about your past blunders or failures. They will not forget them, and sometime will remind you of them. If you tell it to anyone, tell it to the Lord and then forget it." (60)
"The Holy Spirit renews our mind and our thinking through the Word. I used to think it would come through prayer. Praying will not renew your mind. You must study, act, or 'do' His Word." (67)
"We must confess what we are in Christ. We must confess what He is to us, what He is in us, and what we are in Him." (86)
"The Father loves me; yes, loves me, cares for me, watches over me, feels a personal interest in me, and is ambitious for my success in life." (88)
"If we could learn how to walk in love and make it the business of our lives, we would solve many problems of human relationship which we thought were impossible." (95)
"Jesus lived in love. He lived int he realm of Love. He spoke love. His words were love-filled. His acts and deeds grew out of love. He could not help healing the sick. Love drove Him. He could not help feeding the multitudes; Love compelled Him." (95)
"The Vine is a Divine Human Being; the branches are human Divine beings." (101) // John 15:5
"The two constructive forces are love and faith. The two destructive forces are hate and unbelief." (107) // there are two major constructive forces and two major destructive forces in the world
"Hope is always future. Faith is now." (109) // we are called to act in the now, to live in the now.
"This is the heart of the Revelation of Redemption given to Paul." (118) // that we do things *in* Him and in *His power* and that it is intimacy with Him that allows this.
"This Redemption is real. Satan is defeated, disease is outlawed, and want is banished. We are free." (119) // freedom and independence are not the same.
"Eph. 2:10 'For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus.' If you are His workmanship, you are satisfactory to Him. He is pleased with you. We have preached condemnation and sin so long that we do not know how to preach righteousness and to tell the people what they are in Christ." (120)
"There is only one person of any standing before the Supreme Court who could lay anything to your charge. That is Jesus, and He will not do it." (122)
"You are invited to come now to the throne room and sit with the Master and with the Father. You are to come boldly. Don't come creeping in. Don't come in confessing your sin, bewailing your weakness and failures. Put on the new garment. Dress fittingly to appear before the throne. YOu are the sons and daughters of God Almighty without condemnation. You *will* find mercy and grace to help in time of need." (124) // [emphasis added]
"We lock our people in a creed, making them prisoners of the theories of men born a hundred years ago. The Creed Christian is not a Bible Christian. Each creed must have the Bible translated to fit it. We have discovered a Christ who is greater than the creeds, a Redemption that is greater than the creeds, a New birth that bursts the bonds of creedal Christianity and sets the prisoners free. We are discovering a type of Christianity that is better than the creeds, better than anything to which the creeds have given birth." (125) //having been raised with this attitude, i remember being so confused as a kid when my cousin asked what kind of christian i was. [meaning what denomination] i had never been given any concept of that.
"It is not a beggarly Redemption, but a vast God-sized Redemption that glorifies God and glorifies Christ and honors every man who embraces it." (126)
"Satan can rob us of our fellowship with the Father, with the Word, with the brethren, and with ourselves; but he cannot rob us of our relationship with the Father." (135)
"Let us consider for a moment the fat that here is God's ability to do 'exceeding abundantly above all that we could ask or think;' and it is according to the ability of God that is energizing in us right now. The one who is talking about his lack has within him the ability of God. The house is wired. The bulbs are in their sockets. Everything is waiting for him to turn the switch, yet he gropes in darkness. It is not a lack on the part of the Father. It is his lack of taking advantage of God's ability that is given to him that he may grow in grace, in knowledge, and in usefulness." (126)
"'Hear this then: "Who delivered me out of the authority of darkness and translated me into the kingdom of the son of his love: In whom I have my redemption." Is that true, brother?' 'Oh, yes.' 'Well, then you are not in bondage, are you? You've taken advantage of your rights and you are revelling in the ability of God that has taken you out of the realm of darkness and has placed you in the realm of the Lordship of Christ, where every need is met, where the ability of God is at your disposal.' He says, 'Oh no! I haven't faith for that.' 'But did you notice that the word "faith" did not occur here? He says that He has delivered you out of the authority of darkness and that you are now in the realm of the Son of His love; and that in Him you have your redemption. It is not a problem of faith. It required faith to get into God's family, but you are not in it. You are what He says you are.'" (137)
** Col. 1:9-12 "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it ... That you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding." > "knowledge" is the Greek word "epiginosko" meaning, not 'simple wisdom/knowledge', but 'exact knowledge' or 'perfect knowledge' I can have perfect knowledge from God about His plans for my situation. I am not wandering aimlessly. I do not have to act and hope it is right. I can make request for His perfect/exact knowledge about my actions.
It is very similar to few of Kenyon's book that I have read. If I am to recommend just one of his books, then I'll suggest you read "The Hidden Man" instead of this.
E.W Kenyon was a great teacher of the word and Author of many Success classics.
In the Two Kinds of Life, he takes an interesting angle into explaining the concept of eternal life to the believer and how it permits every aspect of our life.
He shines the spot light on the central of God's Word in building our faith and the tenacity of our confession while also fully walking into all at our disposal through the new birth.
Any book by EW is worth reading and this one is no exception! He dives deep into what it means to have a relationship with Jesus and what transformations take place when we step into the eternal life of God.
