I wanted one thing just for me: a hot night with an anonymous masked man. And oh, did I get it.
A shy, reserved woman like me, wearing a gold mask and spending the night with a stranger from a fantasy fulfillment app? Yep, I did that. And it was the perfect escape from the pressure of trying to save my failing company.
Then, Roman Wells—ex-rugby star and new investor in my struggling business—walks into my office. Everyone else loves him: his easy laugh, rugged good looks, and confident charm, but I can barely meet his eyes without turning into a blushing mess.
From our first painfully awkward encounter, things only get worse, with misunderstanding after misunderstanding, until he blindsides me with a ruthless business move that leaves me reeling.
But that’s nothing compared to the positive pregnancy test in my hands. That fantasy night becomes all too real when I find out Roman is my masked man—and the father of my baby.
Roman is determined to be part of this baby’s life—and mine. He won’t back down easily. He wants to make things right, but after the underhanded move he pulled, trusting him isn’t so simple.
He might be winning over my picky cat, personally delivering breakfast to me every morning, and leaving me really cute notes, but how can I believe the man who betrayed me in business will take care of my heart?
Shira, sweetie, I really looove your character, but you're waaay too good for this guy. He absolutely did not deserve you, especially considering he hasn't even bothered to apologize sincerely for the way he treated you at the beginning. Idk, maybe he thinks his actions might be his way to do that, but I needed the words. Sadly for you, you never really heard a heartfelt apology from this bulldozing annoying judgmental prick.
I really don’t get why you'd choose to be with someone like this. He's a red flag for the first (or almost) half of the book, and no, his acts of service to make up for his initial stupidity don't suddenly make him a green flag or a likable guy. I can't just forget and forgive all the stuff he did to hurt you; that's just not going to happen.
Also, it's clear (sometimes painfully) that you always choose to be kind and forgiving, never the one to hold onto grudges. I'm not fully onboard with it, but hey, it works for you, so I'm going to tolerate it. But, since I'm your complete opposite, I'll take on the role of holding grudges for both of us (happily, might I add). Because again, this doofus absolutely did not deserve you, not one bit.
PS. At first, he finds her unattractive, and it takes him a while (second half, I think) to realize that her beauty is the silent type (whatever that means). Shira's soooo plain that most characters in this book agreed that if it hadn't been for the pregnancy, the jerk would never have looked at her way. Anywaaay, do what you want with that info.

Initial thoughts:
Self note:
I came across some reviews saying he was quite harsh to her in the beginning. So, I'm going to assume that he would mess things up and maybe (or not) he’ll end up groveling.
But tbh, just knowing that detail is already making me feel a bit wary of this book. I've never been a fan of cruel MMCs, especially when they use their baggage as an excuse for their actions.
Anyway, I’m going to need all the spoilers I can find, just in case I decide to read this.
I truly don't know how to break this one down in a review. I also think, I may just appear like a broken record, stuck parroting praise of Julia Wolf again and again. Sometimes there is just that author that you click with and their stories move you in ways no one else can. I'm not making excuses for that, I can love who I love.
I just hold this author to a different standard and she surprises me, continuously. There is a quality to her romances and storytelling that I find very rare in the romance landscape right now. It means I am extremely attached to her and I don't care who knows it!
When it comes to a character like Shira, I don't think I could be more opposite if I tried. There are SO many things she does and decisions she makes that go against how I would react. It could have been frustrating in the heavy hands of another author. Shira is shy, introverted, and reserved. She works behind the scenes and doesn't shout her good works out loud. That means she can come off cold and aloof at the first meeting.
Roman Wells is larger than life (literally) and truly gets a bad impression from Shira when he invests in her late husband's business and comes storming into her life. He demands answers and assumes the worst of her. It is honestly crushing and made my stomach sink time and again. If I didn't trust this author, I would have ditched him. But in his POVs we know where he's coming from. We understand why he's frustrated and he sees the state of the company as her fault. There are many employees who rely on it and he thinks she's letting them all down.
It's rough ya'll. But the thing is... we know a little secret. These two have met before, in a much sexier situation. A situation in a sex club, with masks, and free reign to explore each other. We know their connection and compatibility. See, Shira may be painfully awkward in a business situation, but in that room, she lived out a fantasy. And when there are consequences from that night, she's honestly a bit pleased, until she learns who her masked man was...
The brute that just wrested control of her business away from her.
So... you see how things might be a bit awkward when she shares the truth with him. Because now, Roman realizes he has been wrong about more than one thing when it comes to Shira. And he can only hope she'll give him a chance to show her a different side of him. He is ALL IN on the Baby Daddy train, and so are a few of his brothers too!
I truly didn't know how Roman could win me back over after a few of the things he said and did. Yet, that's the beauty of a grovel, isn't it? And seeing Shira come into her own and bloom into a mother was heartwarming. I loved every second.
As usual, my review of her book is way too long, but I could go on and on. This book was fantastic. It was heartbreaking, romantic, cozy, and sexy. Everything I'm looking for and more!
And P.S. You're In-for a treat if you miss Elliot and Kit! They have a great presence in this one as they work in the same building.
6 stars 3.5 on the spice scale

By The Letter is an emotional romance following Shira, a widow struggling to keep her late husband’s company afloat, and Rome, the company's new investor. While the two are forced to work together, after Rome takes an immediate dislike to Shira, he is all too happy to have her removed from the workplace. However, when Shira discovers she is pregnant from an anonymous hookup weeks earlier, she is shocked to discover the father is Rome, the man who was all too happy to backstab her.
I loved every minute of binge reading this romance! While the beginning was messy and full of so many misunderstandings, I loved that we still got a warm and tender relationship from Rome and Shira in the end. The two were so sweet together and I appreciated that their relationship was built around a sound friendship that blossomed into more as they grew to understand each other. While I do think Shira could have been a little more firm and selfish for herself, I understood where the author was going with making her so shy and reserved. She was honestly such a unique and refreshing character. Rome on the other hand was just an inconsiderate jerk in the beginning, he drove me crazy with his one sided opinions and observations. Thankfully the man immediately corrected his wrongs and did everything in his power to keep Shira happy and helpful; I loved his groveling and attempts to break past Shira’s walls. Overall, this story was full of raw emotion, tender care, steamy romance, and so much profound love that wrapped up into one of the most perfect accidental pregnancy romances I have ever read!
You'll like this if you don't mind a MMC that steamrolls all over the FMC in the name of suddenly giving af about her health and safety. This girl can't even start a new job (you know, after he ousted her from her previous one bc some woman he knows cried to him about her same-age-ice-queen-stepmommy issues) before they're even really on life-detail speaking terms, without him being disappointed that she didn't immediately clear it with him and he had to wait to find out until the next time he saw her in person. 🙄 It's cute that he took care of her cat's shit every day for months but this man didn't feel horrible enough about what he did to her for me. Sure he threw his money around for her once he found out she wasn't a gold digger, but he didn't grovel. He told her how things would be every step of the way and she's so timid she just accepted it all. Mostly, I'm annoyed that he didn't try to find ways to make up for the way he destroyed her career, she did that on her own while he was still patting himself on the back for not letting the past get to him and just moving forward instead. 🙄🙄🙄
Even without all of that, you cannot convince me this man was into the FMC at all aside from her fulfilling his unexpected pregnancy fetish.
Just look at the way he describes her. There's a difference between just generalizing/not noticing how beautiful someone is until later, and this, where he literally lists specific features he doesn't like because he HAS noticed and dissected her.
"There was nothing eye-catching about Shira. She dressed in monochrome, either black on black or gray on gray, modest to a fault. Her dark hair was always raked away from her face and wrapped in a neat bun at the base of her skull. Her face was the kind of plain that was easy to forget once she was out of sight. The only thing remarkable about her was her eyes, but I wouldn’t say they were beautiful. A shade of green so pale there was something ghostly about them."
Sure, you could say he saw her beauty later (I'd argue it was just because the author needed him to--one short line about it being a soft beauty, but there if you look for it), but even his brothers knew she wasn't at all his type:
"This is what I mean. You’re clouded, Rome. On a normal basis, you’d never look twice at—”
And he's then interrupted by the other brother who also seemed to find something lacking in her looks because he knew why to cut it off:
"...If you say one fucking word about her looks, brain injury or not, we’re throwing down..."
There are other hints of this same theme regarding her looks from the pseudo OW/her stepdaughter and others, even herself. Honestly, I think people can care for and love people who aren't their usual type. But all this fuss about it in the book about it, coupled with the fact that the MMC never spared her a moment of consideration or care until he found out she was his baby mama just gives me the ick. He was attracted to the carefree and sex hungry woman he had an anonymous one night stand with + the woman carrying his child, and was willing to accept the package she came in.
Anyway, I wanted to leave no review on this one, but...if I don't do that, I forget why I hated a book later and why I should be cautious of other books by that author.
I loved this book. Let me tell you a little bit about why. There were three things that really stood out to me in this one that just absolutely blew me away.
1. The friendship between Shira, Bea & Clara. If there is one thing about Julia Wolf that you need to know it’s that she writes the absolute BEST girl gangs. Now we first really got a taste of this friend group in Clara’s book, In The Details, but the dynamic between them only intensified in Shira’s book. The way the three of them love & support each other is just so beautiful. Then you add in the banter between them and it takes this threesome up a whole other level!
2. The relationship between Roman & his brothers. I loved every single one of them, but especially his relationship with his twin, Ben. Ben is just a magnificent character all around. Every single scene that he was in was pure gold & I am definitely going to need more of this golden retriever man. ;) These four men support each other through everything, no matter what and I adore that.
3. The growth between Roman and Shira, both as individuals and as an eventual couple, throughout this entire book was so beautifully done. Julia truly takes you on a rollercoaster of a journey with these two and I was along for the ride! In the early chapters of this book, Roman does & says some really cruel things towards Shira, but as the story progresses and things are revealed, you begin to understand why he acted the way that he did. By the end of this one, Roman had grabbed onto my heartstrings and I still don’t think he’s let go. I shed tears over this man, y’all! Also, in the early stages of this book, Shira seems to give off ice queen vibes, but as you continue on, you learn so many things about her and her past that again really allows you to understand and comprehend the things that had happened to cause her to be the person she is. & that she’s not the icy person that people thought that she was. I loved seeing her eventually start to come out of her shell with the last person she expected. Watching Roman & Shira fall in love was so sweet & magical. Two people who shouldn’t work together, but that are absolutely perfect for one another.
This is book two in this series, and can be read as a standalone. You’ll just see characters from the first book (In The Details - Jake & Clara) in this one. You’ll also see characters from past books, most notably Elliot & Kit from P.S. You’re Intolerable. It was so fun to see them again and to see where they’re at in life now!
If you are into romance books with billionaires, found family friend groups, a group of close-knit brothers, and an accidental pregnancy, then definitely add this one to your list!
This book releases on Feb. 20. Thank you to Julia Wolf for allowing me the chance to read an early copy of this release. :)
Every time I read a Julia Wolf book I go into it knowing I’m going to like it and still get surprised by how much I not just liked, but loved it! This one was full of angsty goodness in the beginning and had adorable cozy moments in the end. I’m sorry to everyone who will feel betrayed but I actually love the accidental pregnancy trope every now and again. In most romances, it ends before we get to read about them growing their family (if they do) so I always love reading that aspect of a relationship. Plus the juicy possessiveness and taking care of the FMC is always good.
I don’t know how Wolf did it but I started out absolutely hating the MMC then ended up loving him. He had preconceived opinions about the FMC and always assumed the worst about her. Nothing tastes sweeter than when the MMC realizes how wrong he was about the FMC and has to grovel. Roman was a really good MMC but he wasn’t quite as good as most of Julia Wolf’s male characters. Maybe it was because of how he acted in the beginning but I didn’t believe in his love as much. He also originally basically thought the FMC was ugly and plain looking which is exactly what you want your boyfriend to think. They also just didn’t have as many romantic moments as I usually get in Julia Wolf’s books.
The FMC was very sweet. As a shy girl myself, I completely understood her. She was a very sweet and likeable character. My only gripe is she fell under the “super duper tiny and skinny but still had huge curves and boobs” body type. I would love to read more about skinny FMCs without exaggerated hips and curves. This author usually writes body positive and plus size characters so I’m marking this one as a write off.
Besides those very small issues I had, I loved this book. It’s had the perfect combination of angst and romance with a lovely side of amazing friends and brothers.
Spoilers, thoughts while reading......no rating at this present time
Reread book 1 so I'm coming into this one pissed off 😭. I initially rated book 1 4 stars that reread wasn't a good idea...... nevertheless
Shira girl I need one favor from you.....please have a damn backbone
☝🏿Shira indeed......did not have a backbone 😭😭😭😭 for fuck's sake man this is one of my favourite tropes everrrrrr I love baby from a ONS even better when the h isn't a ball buster but Shira depressed the fuck out of me and now I'm sad as fuck man wtf 😒
Proper(read long ass😂) review will come on a reread ,for now.........
{Safety}
Roman had been out of a relationship for a couple months (no details on the ex) he tried his brother's app became intrigued by Shira they set a meet at the sex club his brother owns. Shira married a much older man who died, she just wants to be with someone but she's painfully shy. Bea told her about the app, she and Roman messaged and set up a meet. Both wore masks and had lots of sex with the end result being a broken condom She ends up pregnant In the time in between no others Roman said he'd had lots of sex Shira had one boyfriend in college and never had sex with her husband 🙄 Roman was an ass to Shira in the beginning because of what he's heard about her and thinking she was a cold ass gold digger..... eventually he learns the truth and sets about to fix his mistake Slight OW drama that wasn't a thing because the woman was actually his brother's ex who's a family friend.....all that hugging and smiling 😒😑 Plain Jane h

I'm really really really looking forward to Bea's story and hope her character stays the same and it's with her billionaire who's crazy obsessed with her 🤞🏿 ETA Bea's book is coming in October 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
Favourite character was Ben but I liked seeing Elliot and Kit again with their kids and he's so deliciously obsessed and protective with her omg
I couldn't put this book down! Rome and Shira's story completely captivated me from start to finish. This novel perfectly demonstrates how to handle the surprise pregnancy trope with sensitivity and depth.
While I adored the overall story, I had mixed feelings about Rome. His initial behavior made me roll my eyes multiple times - treating Shira poorly without a proper apology really bothered me. However, I appreciated how he eventually stepped up, especially with the support of his brothers who added wonderful family dynamics to the story.
Shira quickly became one of my favorite characters ever! Her strength despite her heartbreaking past was truly inspiring. The way the author portrayed her friendships was beautiful - that support system made my heart full.
The business subplot involving Shira's ex-husband added an interesting layer of complexity. I was genuinely invested in seeing how both characters would navigate these professional challenges alongside their personal relationship.
The romance development felt authentic - from awkward beginnings to friendship to something deeper. Their chemistry jumped off the page! The author handled the pregnancy storyline responsibly without unnecessary drama.
I'm already counting down for the next book in this series and secretly hoping Rome's brothers get their own stories!
Loved it! This one had me hooked from chapter one, and kept me invested until the very last page. Accidental pregnancy trope is one of my favorites, so this was right up my alley. These two might be my new favorite Julia Wolf couple. I’m really hoping all of Roman’s brothers getting their own books.
The book blurb had me at shy h wanting a one night stand, but I rolled my eyes for most of this book 🥴🥴
This ain’t a five star read. You arc readers are LYING. AGAIN.
Starts off with the h and H meeting at a sex club in room 10. Because that’s how we want “this is how I met your mother” stories to start 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄👀 help ME help YOU understand. They go at it like teenage bunnies, knowing it will be masked anonymous sex and he leaves saying to let him know if the worst should ever happen……..BECAUSE HIS FVCKING CONDOM BROKE!!!!! And she’s not on bcp or any other contraceptives and she tells him IM SURE ITLL BE OK 👍🥴🥴🥴😂😂🥴🥴🥴🥴😂😳😂🥴😂🥴😂😳🥴😂😳🥴😂😳😂🥴😂😳🥴😳😒 I mean…….okur. This is a one night stand pregnancy book but I wanted something more…..I dunno, complex and intricate?! Like her bcp fails or SOMETHING than that blah conversation that they ended with.
Her relationship with her late husband was really weird too 🤨🤨🤨😒 her mom worked for him as a maid and when she gets sick and dies, she takes over for her mom and then this old guy marries her so that she can be his friend and caretaker. Bruh. You so rich, you can afford a personal caretaker!!! Why do you need to marry a 20 year yer old girl to give you baths and wipe your ass? She never effs frank the old guy/husband and gets all his money when he dies which causes franks daughter to act bitchy to her. Speaking of the stepdaughter, she’s mentioned fleetingly and is such an afterthought. She steals furniture from frank and h’s house and treats shira like shit. Why even mention her at all? She’s mentioned once or twice in the beginning and then halfway in the book when h and her fri ends go on a baby moon trip.
And then the relationship with frank and the H Roman…….his father was friends with Roman’s dad. When his dad passes away, he writes letters to frank but she ends up writing back to him and he thinks frank is the one that wrote these meaningful letters. This was just too much cliche and not well thought out to me you know?it’s too straightforward if that makes sense 🤪
Anyway, he treats her like crap when he first sees her in Frank’s company (she took it over when he died per his dying wish I guess?)and she just literally rolls over and submits because he’s so HaWt and she can’t talk when his handsome face is looking at her 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Speaking of treating her like crap, his youngest brother Adriane also treats her like crap thinking she’s going to……what? Go after his money? I dunno, the reason to hate her was so dumb and redundant. It was basically how Roman treated her initially too.
When she gets pregnant, he’s suddenly all about her and takes care of her. But they don’t even fuck!!!! After all that chemistry and fvcking in a SEX CLUB ROOM, they don’t get horny for each other or jump each others bones?!! What is happeningggggggggggggggggg?!!! Why is no one questioning this? Jaysus fvcking Christ………they don’t even get to the fvcking til like…70%!!!! 🤔😳🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
……..meanwhile……..til about 80% of the book, she thinks they’re just friends 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🥴🥴🥴😒😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣😂🫡😂🤣🤣😂🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 she thinks that there is just no way he can be interested in her. He’s only there for her because of the baby. Good fuvxking god that was frustrating. She’s a fvcking idiot 🥴🥴🥴😂 she even sees him with his brothers ex gf and tells him that she’ll leave them alone so he can spend time with her 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😒😒😒😒🥴🥴🥴🥴🤪🥴🥴🥴🥴 fvcking eejit this girl.
Edited to add: the author uses the word fisticuffs.....why not just fight? No one says fisticuffs!!! 🤔🤔😐😐
So yeah. Processing this book and writing out my review……I’m wondering if I need to give it a 1 star……but it’s been better than other books I’ve been reading so that tells you something 🤣😂
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: accidental pregnancy, ONS Angst: 😱😱😱😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥1/2
I absolutely fracking loved this book! The FMC. The MMC. Hell, ALL the Wells men, (especially Ben) lol. I am so very invested, and I hope we get stories for all of them. By The Letter made me laugh and totally pulled at my heartstrings. I loved how the characters grew as people and as a couple. Just fabulous storytelling!
⋆🌷🫧💭₊˚ෆ Julia Wolf once again charms me with an accidental pregnancy romance ༘⋆🌷🫧💭₊˚ෆ
Once upon a time, I read PS. You're Intolerable and I loved it with my whole being. That one was also an accidental pregnancy romance but the baby wasn't the hero's! This time around, in By the Letter, the hero and heroine have a one-night stand in a sex club, not knowing that they know each other from work, because they were wearing masks at that moment! When they find out their real identities, Roman instantly knows he fucked up this relationship because just a day ago before finding out he's the father of her baby, he orchestrated a company meeting where Shira was taken out as a CEO.
Shira is a shy woman who has had no one since her mother died when she was 19. It was then that Frank, her deceased husband, offered her marriage. Knowing this marriage was only in name only and for her to use it as a benefit, she agreed. But not everyone knows this... Some people think she is a gold digger, that she doesn't care about the company, that she's an ice queen. When in fact, she's just doing her part of the deal while also having social anxiety. Roman misjudges her so badly at the beginning, believing a lot of what people say about her. Oh you're going to be pissed at that first maybe 15%, you will want to shake Roman and tell him to open his eyes!! But the groveling and the scenes after he finds out he was so wrong are *chef kiss*
જ⁀➴ I loved their relationship. Roman is SO IN since the very beginning. I couldn't stop giggling and swooning over them. Roman does everything for her, cleans her cat's litter box, brings her smoothies every morning, buys furniture for her new house, and buys the house next door to her new house. Like this man IS A MAN. If he wants, he would. Truly he would.
Both of them are super rich. Frank left Shira a lot of money when he died, so she doesn't need money. I love it when both characters are rich in romance books because you don't have a sort of dependent relationship between them. Shira doesn't need Roman in any way, but he is there because he wants to do it all. She lets him be part of this journey and he is going to show her how perfect they are together. I loved everything about their relationship 💗ྀི
It really bothers me that **I** held a grudge longer than she did.
Unfortunately his asshole-ish beginning, lack of apology or believable remorse, the way he bulldozed himself into her life and continues to railroad her, meant that his overbearing behavior never felt like the cute overprotective vibe I guess the author was intending. He just felt like the same bulldozing jerk.
When we met Miles waaay back in a previous series, I hated him. In fact, I was not sure I wanted to ever read his story because how could you ever redeem that? But this author did it, and I love Miles. Love him. That is quite literally the only thing that kept me from quitting this book before it really got started. I had faith this author could do it again.
Roman is a piece of shit. Like a colossal flaming asshole. He treats Shira like scum from first contact, calls her a gold digger, describes her as being unattractive, and his primary goal is ruining her life. He’s a real Romeo, right? 🙄. I kept reminding myself about Miles though, thinking he had to do something amazing to turn it around.
Only he didn’t.
A big difference with Miles, is that we saw Miles’ emotions and the reactions when he saw how his actions hurt others. He was GUTTED when he learned the girl he remembered as being a friend in school told him he was her bully. And he had huge character growth. I never saw any actual character growth in Roman. Everyone raved about what a great guy he is, such a caretaker. And I guess he was like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, because to his family, he WAS that amazing caretaker. But he was horrendous to this beautiful woman who didn’t deserve it. And like the doormat she is, she lets him get away with it.
Roman loathes Shira, but then discovers she is pregnant with his baby and suddenly decides he better make her hate him less since they’re stuck together. (As an aside- I did love how the pregnancy happened. Although WTF, who goes to a SEX CLUB and isn’t on birth control???). He isn’t remorseful. He doesn’t even apologize. He’s not gutted for the completely disgusting things he did. In fact, I think at some point later she even thanks him for ruining her life because it set her free from the job she hated 🙄 Even when the women who quit pointed out his vile behavior, I didn’t feel his remorse all that much. So his acts of service to convince her to believe he’s not the complete piece of shit he really is? Barf. Not nearly enough. And I’m angry that it took some pastries and him barging into her house with a litter box for her to forget all the malicious things he said and did to her. And he still followed up with bulldozing throughout the book. Having a fit because she wants a girls weekend trip at 30 weeks pregnant? That’s TEN whole weeks before her due date. People travel well beyond that. 🙄
And let’s be completely honest- his acts of service were filling HIS need bucket, made HIM feel valued, so it was never really about her needs.
It was weird to see him react so strongly to his brother’s hatred of her, (even though I applauded him standing up for her), when he is quite literally the reason for it. He set the tone by telling them how awful she was, by treating her the same, but then got mad when Adrien treated her the same way he did? Actually less brutally really. I wish someone had called him out on it.
I just didn’t get the “I’m with her because I love her and can’t live without her” vibe. It felt very much like he was with her solely because she was pregnant with his baby, and because he is a “caretaker” personality (which we are told many times) so that’s what he does. Even if he’s making the best of it, and he’s actually an amazing caretaker, it’s still sad. I’d hate to be the woman who is with a man who not only hated me before he ever met me, admittedly found me completely unattractive, and settled for me because his caretaker personality made it an obligation when he learned I was pregnant with his baby. Even if eventually he learned to like me. Yet, here Shira is.
I will concede that I liked him for the last third of the book. But he was so vile in the beginning, and the bulldozing acts of service did not make up for it, that I couldn’t get on board. In the end it was still “a couple that never should have been together making the best of the shitty hand they were dealt”. And that is really sad.
Trope - strangers to lovers, one-night stand, billionaire romance, accidental pregnancy, dislike to love, workplace romance, grumpy × sunshine, MC with twins, forced proximity, found family, grief, character development, steamy, HEA
I was excited yet sceptical about this book due to the online reviews, but I was glad I didn't let them influence my decision to read it because it turned out to be quite enjoyable.
The story begins with a one-night stand featuring secret identities, leading into a dislike-to-love office romance. The initial banter between the characters was entertaining.
Both characters made a bad first impression—Shira's impression was limited to the book's characters, while Roman's impression extended to the readers as well.
I understood Shira to a different extent. Her anxiety, her cold demeanour, everything but damn I loved her confidence. She was so freakin strong. I LOVED HER, damn even after going through pain all her life that woman never bowed in front of anyone and spoke volumes. She was too good to be true. Shira was so damn precious, the more I read about her, the more I liked her.
Roman, on the other hand, made me loathe him. I didn't like how he— objectify women based on their looks. Even though he had a character development where his actions were explained, his initial thoughts/words were always lingering in the back of my mind.
Regardless of how much hate I had for Roman, I liked how he had a head over his shoulder and was fast enough to take responsibility when he realised the truth. He was a caretaker and a hardass; he took his time to let people in, but when he did, he loved them to the fullest. He eventually grew on me.
The short letter exchange and morning routine had to be one of the sweetest moments in the book.
I love it when men grovel, and Roman did it well after all he had done. His love language was the act of service and caretaking, and he was good at what he did.
Shira was so unloved (except by her mom) that she didn't realise what love was, and that broke my heart.
Side characters - * I loved Shira's friend circle; all the women surrounding her were strong and confident- from Clara to Kit, to Bea to Terry. The satisfaction I got when women stood by women. GIRL POWER!!! YES!!! * Terry was such a lovely friend to Shira. I loved how she never missed an opportunity to stand by and support her. * Elliot and Kit's cameo had me screaming, and omfg it was fun watching them back. * The Wells brothers were all unique but amazing. Ben, our golden retriever twin, was the best thing in the book. He was Shira's personal cheerleader, and I loved how he always stood by her side like a good friend and brother-in-law. Adrian, though, came out as standoffish at first. I understood him and his defence mechanism. Nate was calm and collected.
The ending was bittersweet. It was beautiful to watch Roman and Shira find happiness and love in each other, but what was even more beautiful and loving was witnessing their growth as they provided themselves and their baby with a caring family. The found family trope was lovely. Shira found three brothers in the Wells boys, and that made me happy. The epilogue was the best way to end this book; the last line Roman said was what did it for me.
The reason this book lost its rating was mainly because of Roman at the beginning of the book and his words. Another is the fact that there was no bonus chapter after the epilogue.
and the award of worst book of the year goes to this one seriously . i could not finish this book to save my life. why would someone write this?????? i HAD TO stop at 9% cause i couldn’t stand roman anymore… read some reviews saying “awwww he’s changed when he finds out shes pregnant so good to see him change throughout the book” but even them didnt convince me. he treats her POORLY idc if he doesn’t know who she is at first… the part where he says shes not pretty, the other saying shes a gold digger????? when i read the blurb i thought it was going to be such a good read but girl… I WAS DEADASS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! i enjoyed other julias books but this one.. sorry🥹🥹🥹🥹
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

Let's start by saying this is how you do a book with the surprise pregnancy trope, well written, thoughtful, all beautiful.
Rome and Shira's story started out as one night, then off on the wrong foot (not knowing they'd already had that night), and I must confess that some of Rome's actions made me roll my eyes more than once, but when he figures it all out, he fixes it, and well, I forgive easily (when it's fiction). Shira struck me as a strong FMC, with a past that made me want to cry, but at the same time left me with a full heart when I saw the group of friends she has.
The whole issue of the company and her ex-husband was interesting to me, I wanted to see how Shira would evolve in that aspect and what Rome wanted to do and well, she didn't disappoint. The pregnancy issue as I said was handled very well, there wasn't much drama, they were held responsible, Rome's siblings were very supportive, everything went well with that part and not to mention the romance because I loved it.
Seeing these two fall in love was one of the best things because first they became friends and after all the misunderstandings were cleared up, everything fell into place and seeing them together was the best. I'm definitely looking forward to the third book in this series and I hope the Rome brothers get their own books.

Let me start this off by saying there are a few ways I rate my books. If you want to see the detailed version you can see it on my Instagram at @ letsreadlotsofbooks.
So, back to why we have all gathered here today, the review. At first when I started this book I did not like it, not because of the writing or story, I LOATHED the MMC – Roman. I found him to honestly, be an utter asshole. The reason I thought this was the way he treated Shira (side note sorry if this is a family name but it didn’t fit the character to me, my only negative); he belitted her, made her feel like inferior as a woman and downright bullied her. Why did I keep reading? Shira. Something about her character made me crave more of the story, I knew there was more to her than we were reading and seeing.
“Your kind of beauty is a whisper. The closer you pay attention to it, the more you understand and become attuned to it. And once you are, you can’t believe you didn’t notice it in the first place.”
She is described as the only way I can say a ‘ plain Jane’ but maybe that’s one of the reasons I liked her so much, she was genuinely nice, caring, embraced the women in her life. Most other books the FMC is always described as flawless and gorgeous ‘despite this’ but not Shira. She gave up her life for another person to protect them and care for them. She helped another woman leave an abusive situation. She did so many little things throughout the story that you don’t hear from her, you hear from side characters because that is the person she is; she didn’t do it for the attention or praise, she did it for the people she loved.
Back to Rowan, his character growth in this book was incredible and in my opinion it is very telling to the world we live; he listened to what someone else said without doing his due diligence and getting to know Shira before he made his own opinions. He judged her every step of the way and assumed everything she did was negative. Shira was a character that did so much for others and gave so much love to others even though she had a rough childhood and she didn’t do it to compensate for that, she did it to show people there was good in the world.
Again, I think this is a good testament to the world we live in, we judge others based on things we hear and others opinions without making the effort for ourselves. The feminism in this story was subtle but there and amazing. All the women in this book were great and I wanted to be friends with every single one. I want Terry to be my cool grandma.
The relationship between Rowan and Shira became something truly beautiful. He fell and fell hard once he realized who she genuinely was, he found her beautiful but I think he found her soul the most beautiful of all. That to me is love, true love. Do I think they would have had a relationship if not for the pregnancy? Not sure but I am sure glad they did.
So yes, this book is a 5 star read to me, back to what I mentioned in the beginning; one of the main things a book has to do for me to give it a 5 star rating is illicit a reaction of me. Something that makes me feel something so deeply I won’t stop until the book has been finished. This book did it for me. Please read it and do not give up when you want to DNF. Trust me. CHEFS KISS. I cried so much.
You can walk a hundred paths in your lifetime. If this one is coming to an end, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of your dreams. You’ll get up, walk down a new path, and find the next dream.
Also – PLEASE for the LOVE of all that is holy tell me I am getting a Ben book. His banter was TOP NOTCH. I NEED IT.
**Thank you Valentine PR for an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
3.75 - 4⭐️ | 3🌶 I honestly don't know how to feel about this book. I almost put it down at the beginning because Roman was insufferable and made me SO ANGRY. Listen, i get portraying a broody a**hole but he was just outright rude and judgemental. Now, I loved Shira! I kept reading for her (because in a way i am her). She was the epitome of a strong woman despite her quietness. And the little moments she shared with baby during pregnancy and after were so wholesome. I loved that Shira had a strong, unwavering support structure, despite her trauma. I also loved Bea, Clara and Kit. And Ben! I need the other Wells brothers to have their own stories (especially Ben & Nate). I wanted to love Roman and I hoped as I progressed that I would, but he downright degraded Shira in the beginning and as a girls girl, that was something I simply couldn't stand for. There was no need to belittle her like that AT ALL! And then to find out that THAT is her story (iykyk). I was a little nauseated by Roman's actions, even if he didn't know her story. I get he had his own issues but that is no excuse. In spite of that, I will be continuing the series because I'm excited to see who's next and who else gets an hea. thank you to valentine pr for this arc
This was a sweet read that delves I to misunderstood personality traits and why we are the way we are….the moral of the story is don’t judge a book by its cover… or appearances can be deceiving. Shy Shira is judged to be arrogant and an ice Queen because she is quiet. The truth is she has an abusive background. Anyways she has a ons at a sex club with Roman. They are both using fake names and wear masks. They break a condom so he leaves his info at the front desk. They part ways with no plans to ever see each other again. Surprise Roman buys a large percentage of the company Shira was left by her dead husband. Roman thinks she’s a gold digger. He thought of her husband as a mentor. Anyways of course there’s a surprise pregnancy and the story revolves around that. Low angst.
This book was great. I loved the FMC she was portrayed so realistically when it came to being awkward in social situations and being caught Off guard. It just reminded me of me and it was so relatable. I didn't like how the MMC treated her in the beginning, but he eventually stopped listening to what other people said and started to open his eves on the things he did wrong. He apologized and made up for his mistakes, and when he found out she was pregnant with his baby, he stepped up. I loved how he cared for her cat. There was also a cameo from the couple from "PS. You're Intolerable," it took me like up to 85% of the book to click that the couple was from that book.
A couple of years ago, Julia Wolf was a new author to me. Since then, every single time I open one of her books, I get this flutter in my belly, because I know that the love story she wrote in front of me will be wonderful and passionate. This time it was Shira and Roman's love story and I can say one thing... I am in love with these two.
You do understand, I couldn't take my eyes off this book. I waited for her book for so long and her love story never disappointed me.
Shira is struggling with life after her husband's death, and she is trying her best to keep the company afloat. For once in her life, she wanted to do something only for herself. She finally gets that when she goes to a sex club to fulfill her fantasies. She meets a very handsome and sexy man who does all of those wonderful things to her. The thing is that he leaves her a present after their night of passion. When the company needs saving, the solution comes in the face of Roman Wells. Sadly, after their first meeting there was misunderstanding after misunderstanding. But then again, Roman is that sexy man who fulfilled her fantasies, and it's going to be her baby's father. From then on, it gets really fascinating because I was truly wondering if he would crawl for forgiveness properly 😁.
I loved Shira. To the people she doesn't know, she comes off cold, dismissive and not communicating. But this is not true at all. She is extremely shy and when she first met Roman face to face she was literally mesmerized by him. Sadly, he thought that she was just cold and didn't want to save her husband's legacy.
After all the misunderstandings are cleared and Roman finds out he will be a father, the story gets even better. When he sees the real Shira, he goes on a mission to sweep her off her feet and show her he can be the best father and a man for her. It does take a while, because she is still hurt by his actions and she doesn't trust him. But bit by bit, her heart starts warming up to him. He fell a little bit before, but after everything he just falls harder. Because she is his woman, and she needs to know he loves her from all of his heart. It is quite difficult for her to trust him again, but being with Jim every day, she sees that he is a good person. A person she starts to love very deeply.
I won't miss mentioning their steamy scenes. They were just so hot and full of passion. We also had some kinks floating around and they were so smutty. I loved every single moment these two were together. They just fit so perfectly in the bedroom 🥵. He was all her fantasies coming to life, and she was the woman he always wanted 🌶️.
Overall, I am so much in love with this story and its characters, so I am definitely buying this book in paperback ♥️.
***I received an ARC from Valentine PR and my review is given voluntarily.***
By The Details starts out with a sexy one-night stand between strangers, to an enemies to lovers workplace romance.
Roman and Shira meet up at a sex club for a one-night stand, no names, no strings attached. Unfortunately, a broken condom will lead to an accidental pregnancy. Roman enters her life to try and save her dead husband’s company, but he has a negative impression of Shira and immediately treats her horribly. When things fall apart and Roman finds out she is pregnant with his baby, he is in for a wake-up call about how wrong he was about her.
Shira had a traumatic childhood and always felt like she had to be quiet. She married a much older man to take care of him, and Roman assumed she was a gold digger. Now, he is determined to make up for his mistake, and he steps up completely to be a father to their baby.
This has some of the best groveling, and even though I was frustrated with Roman in the beginning, I truly appreciated everything he did to make Shira’s life better. This man shows how much he cares through acts of care, and I loved every moment.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW 🎤Dual narration by James Cassidy & Avery Reid
I absolutely loved this audiobook. Avery did such an amazing job showcasing Shira’s shy and awkward nature. James Cassidy was perfect as the dominant and sexy alpha Roman Wells. I highly recommend the audio.
By the Letter is another delicious romance in the Mile High Billionaires Series. I have been following this author for years and to this day, I continue to enjoy her writing style, relatable characters, and engaging storylines.
Roman Wells is a bull dog - cinnamon roll hero. I am not sure I can accurately explain his character other than I adored him! His inner monologues were both sweet and hilarious. Shira is a hardworking heroine with a huge heart. As the CEO of a failing company, there is a lot of weight on her shoulders and she is extremely shy to the point of almost coming off rude to those who don’t know her well. She is easy to relate to and as such made her a very likable character.
The first chapter immediately drew me into Shira and Roman’s story as the initial encounter between these two opposites set off fireworks. Their next meeting had me on the edge of my seat. Shira and Roman seem like an unlikely couple and yet, they are perfect for each other. The notes exchanged between them captured their different personalities and oftentimes had me in stitches. They each have intriguing backstories that clearly shaped who they are today, but I feel that the author did not develop that aspect of the storyline as much as I had hoped.
The secondary characters in this novel truly made this book entertaining. I reveled in the interactions between Roman’s brothers and I hope that they each get their own books. As for Shira’s friends, I would love to have them in my corner! By the Letter, for all of its humorous moments also has its fair share of angst and drama without it being over the top. If you love spicy, accidental pregnancy romances, By the Letter is a book you won’t want to miss!
I don't think my heart is physically able to contain the love I have for By The Letter; Shira in particular. I didn't want this book to end. That is my literal only complaint. The fact that I had to say goodbye to these characters. However, if you ask me to choose between Roman and Shira, Elliot and Catherine, or Hannah and Remington? DON'T. Because I would rather perish.
Moving on.
Accidental Pregnancy is one of my very favorite tropes but I rarely find one that balances the relationship and the actual pregnancy. The pregnancy always seems to be an afterthought. But Julia Wolf never lets me down. This had just the right amount of everything I wanted.
Shira is the sweetest possible human! Every time someone misunderstood her shyness and anxiety for rudeness I was ready to go to war for her (even if it meant fighting Roman 😤). I LOVED seeing her become more comfortable and allowing herself to experience the love and life she deserved.
Roman. From the first time he was a jerk, I was already giggling and kicking my feet in anticipation of the moment he fell for Shira. I knew it was gonna be good. And it was! He was such a lovely surprise of a human. He was soft and he cared and loved so deeply. He truly was a caretaker to his core. He was everything Shira and their kid* deserved.
Getting to read these two so naturally fall in love and grow together made my heart want to burst. They were so perfect for each other and the chemistry? My god. They burned hot.
Seeing Elliot and Catherine again was such a treat! I missed them so much. Shira and Roman's support system is everything. I love Clara and Bea and the Wells' brothers? I need their stories. BAD.
