When Arik Beltrán checks into a hotel on business, he expects the tedium of unfamiliar beds and boring meetings. He expects to meet a financial client and be home before the solitude of being a stranger in a mundane land becomes too much to bear.
Instead Arik finds Blaze: a mysterious man with an inner fire that lives up to the name. Nothing in Arik's life, not his deranged father nor even his faint brushes with the magic only Arik can see in the woven web of life could have prepared Arik for the man in the hotel lobby who casually invites Arik to room 1109 for late night...Well, anything at all.
Blaze Zaituc, on the other hand, knows exactly who Arik is and what Arik needs: Blaze. He has crossed land and sea to find the man who has appeared in Blaze's Visions as the next target in the Quest that comprises Blaze's life. Arik is someone for whom the Universe has plans, and Blaze must make sure Arik complies. Or else.
Unaware of the lives and risks hanging in the balance, Arik untangles himself from the sheets in the silent hours of the morning. He wonders if he will find the door to 1109 open and waiting. He's not a risk taker, but this one time, just this once, maybe he'll take a chance...

I don't wanna give much away about this book, as the not-knowing is one of its perks. Starting the story, you don't really know what kind of book you're getting yourself into. Is it more love story or mystery, or both? Or could it be paranormal? Is it full of tension and horror?
If you read this book, you're gonna get a lovely romance, some steamy and passionate sex, a lot of mystery, and 2 very likeable characters. There is no drama here, just a mysterious story, slowly revealing itself.
The story is told in an alternating 3rd person POV, which worked really good. I am not a fan of the authors' writing style, though. I found it bumpy in parts, and I had problems following what was going on sometimes. I needed to really concentrate to get what was going on. Maybe it was just me and I was distracted. Or Maybe not. The conclusion of the mystery felt especially confusing to me. I did get what it was about, it was just a bit exhausting.
The paranormal/mystery element of the book was a bit esoteric and there is a sense of predetermination. Both things are not favourites of mine, but I wasn't really bothered by it.
As this is a free read, 'Vision Quest' is a really good deal, and I recommend it!
"You did this," Arik narrowed his eyes and stepped closer. "You and your damn witch blood did something."
It was an unreasonable argument; Arik knew it was. Blaze had been nowhere near him when the nudges had started. That thought didn't help shut down his mouth in the least.
"Or was it some fucking crap that you spit in my mouth when we kissed? Dropped in my coffee, maybe? What's your game, Blaze? What the fuck are you doing?"
Blaze's jaw tightened. He nodded, though it appeared more to himself than anything else. "Look, Arik, I hear what you're saying. I see what you're feeling. And I know and understand where you are. But let's try and take it easy on the bashing—"
"Fuck you." The words popped out of Arik's mouth before he could stop them.
"Fuck ... " Blaze tilted his head. "Me? I doubt that will resolve anything."
Reason snapped in Arik's head. He lunged. "Do you think this is a game—"
Even as his father's words shot off Arik's tongue, even as his clawed fingers sought out the much smaller man in front of him, the horizon shifted, body movement followed a gentle, yet insistent shove, and Arik found himself finishing the sentence to the soap-slicked, water-spattered laminate of the countertop. His cheekbone took the brunt of the fall, his teeth clacked together with a snap that made him grateful his tongue hadn't wandered between them, but it was more surprise than pain that brought the, "Ow."
Feisty for a little guy—Blaze had caught Arik completely unprepared. So much for those tae kwon do lessons.
Arik flexed against the hold Blaze had on his arm; the arm twisted just so across Arik's back. If he stayed still, Arik was fine. If he tried to move either self or limb, that was a totally different story, however.
"Two things," Blaze said. "I will reiterate again that I understand. I feel for you, Arik, I really do. But you will not ... " A small tug sent warning streaks of pain up Arik's arm and into his shoulders. "You will not attack me. You want to pick me up and throw me on a bed, I am cool with that. Hell, ninety-eight times out of a hundred I'll like it. You want to hold my hands over my head while we're having sex, and play the part of Mister Tough Guy, that's awesome. I like a little rough play as much as the next guy. But the moment you come after me with actual intent, the way you did just now, I will break you. I don't care what the fuck your reasoning is behind it."

A story and characters both so thrilling and powerful that it is impossible to stop reading.
The novel tells about a tragedy so unspeakable and love so strong that I was surprised that words could be found for them.
The fate of Blaze and Arik is so deeply touching that it made me holding my breath so often. And their lovemaking is so hot (fiery, burning) that it will take all willpower not to just give in.
The protagonists and their story make reading this m/m novel a new experience!
The M-M action starts barely several pages from the opening hotel lobby meet scene ... and the sheer amount of writing devoted to sex and sexualized banter made me wonder what the hell was going on. I began fast-forwarding entire sections to find crucial plot traction, became re-engaged by the hint of mystical/magical backstory, a snippet of a horrific murder ... before being plunged back into the sex - gah! DNF read @ 57%.
I am not a horror fan. At all. The book was OK, though, heading for 4 stars, until the boys got to Lucas's house. And that's when everything got ruined :(
Strangely I liked this one. It got creepy at times. Mentions of rape, torture, with blood and gore. Bit confusing at points but I liked that Arik and Blaze supported one another, both with their own issues and in the end saving each other. The fire play at the end was interesting.

Well... this was quite a story. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's good quality writing in a novel length story that managed to be both creepy and romantic. The horror elements were pretty well done - there aren't a lot of MM out there that can be seriously creepy. One of the main characters is a Romanian gypsy and that made me a pretty harsh critic of the cultural references (being Romanian myself) but it wasn't as bad as a feared :D The Romanian used was actually pretty accurate (mostly), though it was intermingled with some gypsy words that I didn't have the slightest clue about - had to google those. At first it totally amused me that this Romanian gypsy was red haired and freckled, because considering the ethnicity you'd normally go with some darker hair color at least. There are always exceptions, of course, and in this case it was properly explained that he was in fact unusual for his family and his look came hand in hand with other powers he inherited. In conclusion it was all explained pretty neatly. For any Romanians reading this - I was totally amused by the sudden combinations of Romanian and English in some passages (my favorite being "My bunica was a vrajitoare" :) ). It is startling to see the language used in MM :) It does have my seal of approval for correct usage of words (even though there were a couple of grammar/spelling mistakes). The last sex scene was very fiery (literally) and it amused me. Can I say it was a bright and hot ending? :)))
3.5 stars...I'm not even sure what to say about this. It starts pretty hot...gets a little confusing, gets hot again, then things become somewhat clearer, get hot again, things take on a dark horror-nightmare quality...well, on an on it goes. I did like it. I'm extremely glad I read it. The characters were...sweet together, I was rooting for them, my heart was hurting while I was waiting for the bottom to fall out, so I was definitely invested in them. It was an interesting and pretty original story (at least based on things I've read) I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the So overall, I enjoyed, and would read more from this author.
A good paranormal story surrounded by a whole lot of hot sex. I would not call this a horror story. Blaze has been cursed to follow his visions and do what the person in his vision needs. Arik needs to forgive his father and learn how to use his power. I liked the way that both men were slowly exposed to the reader. There really weren't any secondary characters as the story was all about Arik and Blaze. The ending was strong yet came on rather abruptly. I would read more by this author.
3.5 stars Well this was quite different. It wasn't an easy read - Arik and Blaze's stories needed quite a bit of concentration. More than once I got them muddled up. I thought the premise of this story was fascinating and well told. The writing was very descriptive, at times dark and the sex intense, although the scene at the end of the book had me thinking of a certain Johnny Cash song - lol!
What a beaut! Rich imagery, gorgeous language, wholly unexpected gem.
Slight expansion:
Never read a book quite like this. A brilliantly original story that transcends the mm genre, delivered in an entirely unique voice - AFH and KW seem to bend the language to make it at once both their own and entirely Other. Astonishing that this is free.
Ok. So, I’m still at a loss with this one. I have to give it 4 because overall, the writing is good. It’s a good plot and such, but there were times when I didn’t quite get what was being portrayed. And it’s probably just me. But at times some of the writing was just off for me. And trying to figure it out left me more confused. The gist of it is, Blaze has been cursed for over 300 years by a witch from when he was in Romania. He has visions that take him on quests now to help people he’s sent to. Some are good. Some are bad. His latest quest has led him Arik. What happens between Blaze and Arik though, is mysterious and magical. There is a spark that lights them up when together, and Arik is seeing things himself. They are trying to work through each and every thing they are dealing with but some of it is hard to stomach and leaves Arik a bit off. He overcomes it, if for nothing else, then for Blaze, because he’s starting to realize the true hell Blaze has been living. And Blaze deserves some good in his life. But little by little, Arik is starting to put the pieces together on how to finally free Blaze from his curse and it starts happening at the meeting of a man he was supposed to meet earlier in the week. Everything has to happen in it’s own time. But surviving it may be another matter. I don’t know who I felt for the most, Arik or Blaze. The sheer magnitude of what Blaze has been through alone, is enough to make anyone want to run screaming. But what Arik is seeing is just as horrid. And after seeing the things he’s seen growing up, it’s a tossup at who to feel worse for. Blaze obviously, since he’s been cursed. But it’s still pure horror at what they have faced and are about to face. Their lives have been lined up for a reason. Whether fate, curse or what, they are now intertwined and that bond is not letting go. But because of what they are dealing with, it’s a blessing and a curse. Irony is cruel. But no matter how many times Blaze tried to find a way out, Arik wasn’t giving up. Blaze didn’t want to give up either, but he didn’t want Arik to deal with everything he had to and then know if they got to stay together, Arik would die and Blaze would not. So, it was tough decisions all around. Very hard on both of them. Like I said, overall, it’s a pretty good book. I just felt off at certain times, but again, it is probably me. Give it a chance and see what you think.
2.5 Oh boy, I hardly know where to start with this one. To start with, it's probably 75% sex. Yeah, you read that right. There is A LOT of sex (This is a 200+ page book.), which I don't actually have a huge problem with, but I like to know that's what I'm in for and was surprised to find it here. Some of that sex was smoking hot, some not so much and after a point it was just redundant.
The plot is weak. There is one and it hangs together up until the last 15% or so, which I'll address in a moment. The reader spends the beginning of the book confused, as is intended. Once things start to come together the book smooths out, however the writing style is such that information is left scarce. This creates a certain horror-esque atmosphere, but also leaves the reader always feeling a little off balance.
Again, I think that feeling of just barely grasping what is happening was purposeful on the part of the authors. And it worked to a point...until the end. It felt like throughout the story the authors constrained themselves and walked a narrow path in which the book maintained a certain necessary level of realism. Then in the last 15-20% (pretty much everything after the lodge and definitely everything in Luca's home) they just decided to let loose and skipped hand-in-hand off into La-La Fantasy Land. Things just got weird and not in a good way.
I could have dealt with the LSD-like visions. Visions often are symbolic, even if most of them had been pretty straightforward in the rest of the book. But that last sex scene...no, just weird. Not disturbing in any fashion, just too Middle-Grade fantasy merged with m/m sex. Lets just say, it didn't work for me.
I'd give the first 80% a 3.5 and the last 20% a 1.5 star. The writing itself was fine. It was a little over-wordy at times, but readable. I noticed a few editing mistakes, but not enough to be bothered by.
Quick Summary: Arik is just in town for a business meeting. He can’t help bumping into the handsome stranger who invites him for a late-night hookup. But once the night is over the handsome stranger, Blaze, doesn’t leave. After his meeting is postponed, Blaze convinces Arik to spend his unexpected week off having fun together. He doesn’t know that Blaze is here for him. Blaze has spent a large part of his lifetime following the visions that tell him to guide people who need help. According to the visions, Arik is the next person in need of guidance.
My Issues: I actually went into this book knowing next to nothing about it. There was more gore and imagery than I was prepared for. I wasn’t fond of the gore but it was a part of the story.
What I Liked: Sometimes the writing was on the fractured side in the earlier chapters. It threw me for a loop, though it seemed to fit Arik’s mental tangents as he tried to burry the visions he was plagued by. Trying to uncover the little mystery details kept me drawn into the story. This story was heavy. I feel as though I need to turn around right now and re-read it to put the details in place better.
What I Just Gotta Know: I wanna go to this Mini Golf Insanity Land place, just without the melting goat vision. Is it based on a real place?

A brilliantly written tag-fiction between two very talented authors. Plenty of hot scenes. Feel free to keep going back for just those. I do. They take up half the book, I think.
I've simply been reading the original version hosted over on Ms. Kelly Wyre's blog, but with a road trip that took close to three weeks and no internet connection, I downloaded this from Amazon to keep a copy on my iPad Kindle to read on the road. I love sinking into the worlds made by these two authors. Very good stress relief.
Well, wait. Henley's books are good stress relief despite the sleepless nights from staying up to read. Wyre likes to keep me right there on the edge of that chair, regardless of how much my rear and spine are screaming at the abuse until I turn that final page. She likes getting people all worked up like that, it would seem.
I made a mistake on a reply over at Amazon that I will have to go correct now in the mentioning of odd/even chapters. They apparently don't exist in this version, and chapter 1 didn't begin with Kelly Wyre's Blaze.
In clarification: Arik chapters are written by Henley. Blaze chapters are written by Wyre.
I hope you pick this up and enjoy it. It is quite a ride. <3
Written better than most, this M/M horror novella (with a HEA, luckily) fails to convince entirely. First, there is too much sex and most of it is of the "over-the-top" variety: it is not tainted by the horror elements of the plot, big relief here, but it slows down the narrative and there simply too much of it. Horror is not exactly a genre where one can enjoy good erotica for the sake of it. Second, the denouement feels mostly unrelated with the hints which pepper the plot creating a divide between the novella and its conclusion which appear nearly unrelated.
This was not what I expected. Arik arrives in town for a business meeting and finds himself strangely attracted to a man called Blaze. Blaze has visions and while he is never sure what he needs to do for the man in his vision, he finds him anyway. Blaze and Arik are soon on a mission to satisfy the vision. What happens next is quite intriguing and compelling.
I had no idea what to expect when I started this book the blurb made it look like an interesting story. It turned out to be very intriguing and very different. I can’t quite describe it but I can recommend that if you take the time to read it it will be worthwhile.
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I really liked it. Blaze and Arik were fascinating characters, I felt their emotions 100%, and the plot.... Well that's hard to talk about without giving all sorts of stuff away, but it's pretty darn awesome. On the other hand... something just felt missing, plot-wise. There was all this complex, magical stuff and visions (obviously) and fascinating pasts to delve into, and then it just kinda... resolved itself. I was expecting more... effort? I guess? And I was also really expecting the murder in the news to be something... and it just disappeared. I didn't get it.
So Arik and Blaze are lovely and that final sex scene is steaming (literally?), but though the plot was fascinating, it left me wanting something more. Certainly worth the read since it's a freebie, but I was expecting more outside plot mechanisms to show up.
*sigh* I never actually thought this day would come. This is my very first DNF. I tried. I tried for like a month and I still only got 14% through it. I found the beginning confusing and it didn't give me enough information about what was going on to even TRY and capture my interest and make me want to read. It almost felt as though the author didnt want to put the time in to give a proper intro. It could also be that things would get better and make more sense later on but I just can't force myself to keep going with it to find out.
One of the first m/m books I read. I didn't expect the supernatural element (probably didn't read the blurb properly then - I was a a total novice dealing with amazon or anything else) but I really enjoyed it. I have read the book again since and still found it totally engaging second time round. A few questions could be asked about the whole bleeding issue and I did get lost a bit at one point what was happening in that bathroom at the end - but still - this is an interesting read, and definitely something different from the usual m/m romance.
I thought I wouldn't like it. I knew I was right when I couldn't understand what was going on at the beginning. Then I started to see what was going on and got into the book. Then I couldn't put it down. I was pleasantly surprised. You can't miss a thing or you might get a little lost, it could just be me. It was extremely hot. I'm gonna tell you that much.
I really loved the idea but it was a bit weirdly explained. I had moments when I had no freaking idea what was going on and I had to go back a few pages and reread but in the end I got it and I loved it. The Romanian was great until the last Blaze chapter... that was horrible yet it had the best and the strangest smut scene EVER. Great book if you have the time to really understand it.
