She had the unsettling feeling the stalker was waiting to strike. But who could it be? After a heartbreaking tragedy, Chloe had relocated to sleepy, safe Lakeview, Virginia, where she'd spent idyllic summers as a child. Where handsome minister Ben Avery had welcomed her and helped her believe in more than she'd ever thought possible. Yet her fear had followed her. Chloe kept seeing a stranger lurking in the shadows. And her things were going missing. Was it just her fragile imagination? Or was a sinister somebody much closer than she ever expected?
Chloe Davidson has relocated to Lakeview in hopes of healing and making peace with her past. A fresh start where no one knows her. Working for her 'adopted' grandmother/auntie figure at her florist company, she's hoping her past will stay in the past. But the past won't leave her alone. Fortunately the local pastor and his friend, the local sheriff believe her incredulous story when trouble finds her again.
Ben lost his wife over a year ago. The pastor takes his vows very seriously, so when Ms. Opal calls telling him her niece needs help setting up for a wedding, he heads over immediately to lend a hand. What he wasn't planning on finding was a very interesting, physically and emotionally scarred woman he can't keep his eyes off of. So when her past catches up with her again, he'll do everything in his power to keep her safe, and convince her that by his side is the place she was meant to be.
Another cute story about a man knowing when he's found his true love and being kind and gentle enough while she discovers the truth for herself. I quite liked this story. Yes there was a lot of God talk, but when it's a story about a pastor finding his true love, there better be a fair bit of God talk! The author makes a smart move not putting a time stamp on her Epilogue wedding, which I didn't think was necessary to complete the story.
Shirlee McCoy’s stories are always entertaining, and Stranger in the Shadows fulfilled my expectations. It started with suspense and action that carried through to the end… with characters that you genuinely like and a happily ever after ending that only God’s intervention can be responsible for. Thank you, Ms. McCoy for another exciting afternoon.
Sweet ending to a suspenseful tale; but honestly this location series (connected to the brothers series as well) is starting to sound similar in terms of plots, with the stalkers and such. Chloe was a great lead and so was Ben and the puppies were a cute addition to the story.
Not as good as Valley of Shadows, but was happy to see Hawke and Miranda show up in the book. We never do find out what Ben used to do, before he became a Pastor...some military op for sure
