She’s the worst thing to come along since the black plague, and she will do anything to alter the destiny she was made for. Failure is not an option. But if the shadows of evil overcome her…
Only one person can stop her.
When she meets Micah, she doesn’t expect him to save her life, or to offer his help. They were born enemies after all. Though he boasts noble intentions and a belief that, together, he and Kris could swing the tide of the war to the side of good once and for all, Kris can’t help but suspect that he is hiding something.
They have a plan…
Strengthened by new allies, Kris and gang take their fight to the Skotadi. As they discover shocking secrets and grow closer to learning of the evil-doers ultimate plans, Kris worries that time has run out. Struggling with her inner demons, she does the only thing she can to protect the ones that she cares about most, even if it tears her heart in two.
Question is, where will her heart lead her?
Book two in the Ignited Series, Sacrificed continues the journey of Kris, Nathan, Alec, and Callie as they set out on an adventure to alter destiny. Lasting friendships are formed, lives are changed, romance sizzles, and hearts are broken in this exciting follow up to Desni Dantone’s debut, Ignited.
I live in the quiet, middle-of-nowhere Everett, Pennsylvania with my three boys.
I've been writing since I was eleven, after I swiped one of my mom's Dean Koontz books. I still remember the first one I read; it was called Darkfall, and kept me awake most of the night. Anyway, I was totally inspired when I learned that he came from the small rural town I called home (true story, I swear!), and started writing freaky little horror stories because I wanted to be just like him. I gave the stories to my mom to read. I don't think she was as impressed as I was, but she put on an encouraging face...and that was how my writing obsession started.
After years of writing for a hobby and taking creative writing courses, I've published my first novel, Ignited. My dream is for Dean Koontz to no longer be the only bestselling author from my little middle-of-nowhere hometown.
Free will or fate. Soul mates or happenstance. Humanity or love. Saving the world or saving the ones you love. What choice would you make if no choice is a good one?
Because Kris wasn’t just thrown a bad lot in life. There was nothing accidental about her being thrown on the wrong side of the war. She was literally bred for evil.
Theatrics aside though, this was good. Despite there not being much progress in terms of the Kala-Skotadi war (I looked up after some 6 hours of power-reading to realise they’ve made pretty much no progress against the Skotadi...), I was hooked.
For a girl whose daily crisis has gone from whether the boy she’s crushing on likes her to trying not to kill the man she loves, who has an evil she-wolf alter ego, Kris is thankfully a pretty drama-free girl. She doesn’t mope; she doesn’t throw ‘woe is me’ tantrums and she doesn’t wait around to be rescued by her man.
Three boys. One girl. No love triangle. Kris knows she wants and she makes it blatantly, even painfully clear from the beginning to anyone and everyone. Not that said love interest makes it easy. There is plenty of angst, heartache, doubt, temptation and steamy moments to satiate the romantic in me.
Though I would have loved to see more depth in the characters of Callie, Micah, Gabby and Richie; more stuff to happen; and some tidying up of the dialogue between the characters, there is no doubt that this was un-putdownable. For me anyway. On the bus, walking to work, brushing my teeth, waiting in line for sushi, this occupied my every (rare) free moment.
I am so glad i decided to continue on with this series, this book was fantastic...
The reason its 4 stars.
Sometimes i felt the love triangle was a bit Bennet/ Wickham/ Darcy, but gone wrong. Nathan came across as stoic (Darcy) but whereas Darcy was selfless and won Elizabeth's love Nathan is just annoying.... I feel he is constantly leading Kris on, he may be conflicted but Kris is going through much worse and needs an anchor to the good side and he seems to be completely reluctant..... I think the nicest thing he did all book was bake her a cake.....
Alec on the other hand is the fun selfless version of Wickham, who although is in love with her knows where her heart truly is and knows that Nathan will be her way to goodness, he makes her laugh and tries to take her mind off their current predicament when it gets too much, although she may be his anchor to goodness he lets her go, for her closure.
Apart from Coming off as a little desperate with Nathan i do like Kris i sometimes wish she could do more and not keep getting rescued, fireballs are a great start.
The brilliant
The story itself is fantastic you cant put it down, we discover Kris's origins and fall deeper down the Rabbit hole as new hurdles are placed before our Hero's.
I have to take of my hat to the way the author writes it is truly beautiful the way she captures and portrays body language and gestures in communication, it makes the character so much more real you can really picture them.
Micah is written to perfection he comes across as the creepy meant to be good guy (think he is a baddie)
Callie i think has been turned into a Skotadi immortal but no one seems to be bothered she was captured and had some incantation said over her while she was tied up, they just send her home. but other than that the ending was great more questions and heart wrenching reunions all in all brilliant. Bring on book three, i'm just hoping Nathan pulls his finger out!!!!
Kris was raised to believe she is human. This illusion lasts until her 17th birthday, when she comes to the attention of "bad" magic wielders (the Skotadi) who first try to kill then recruit her. Turns out, she is not human...Kris is actually a very powerful magic wielder whose talents have just started to manifest. The Skotadi believe she is destined to turn dark and become their champion.
The concept isn't terrible. My biggest frustration is the amount of time wasted on Kris' unrequited love quadrangle with large helpings of teen angst (the key ingredient of every YA book EVER written).
First there's Nathan, the broody guy who was her guardian angel during life threatening childhood events. He's a bit older and virtuously resists her repeated attempts to lure him into her bed.
Then there's Micah, champion of the light, a manipulative teenager who believes that Kris is his soul mate and routinely sends her inappropriate dreams. She wants nothing to do with him, yet, in true stalker fashion, he just won't move on.
Finally, there's Alec. Alec is probably my favorite. An angsty teen fighting the lure of the Skotadi, he is secretly attracted to Kris, but knows she is infatuated with Nathan. Instead of pursuing her, he becomes her sarcastically humorous friend and confidante. Despite her feelings for Nathan, Kris is reluctantly attracted to Alec.
As Kris' "love compass" wandered from person to person, I grew bored and irritated with both her indecision and the guys' unrealistic obsession with her. By the end of the book, I was secretly hoping she and Alec would turn to the dark side and have a fun, hedonistic romp on the wild side. At least that might have kept my attention.
So instead of getting any work done, I have sat in my room for the last 4 hours determined to finish this book. It was great! It was well-paced and kept me wanting more from chapter one. I'm rooting for Nathan--just saying. I'm glad we've got more answers to what is going on with Kris and the Kala-Skotadi war even though I have so many questions! It was great to see more of Alec and I'm still not sure how I feel about Micah...I'm looking forward to the next book!
sucks when an excellent first book to a series gets bombed by a blah follow up.
felt like there was a whole lot of nothing really going on. the new reveals were o.k. micah is creepy and i don't understand the point of having human bestie ... there.
appreciated the change up and drama toward the end and i'm interested in book three, see where that goes, but over all a bit of a disappointment. the first was interesting and worth a read, i can't say this was either of those things. sad.
A really great sequel to Ignited and a good continuation of this exciting paranormal series. I really liked this book - just as much if not more than the first book. IN this story we get to see Kris learning more about her past, her destiny and her new abilities. There is also all the underlying relationship drama throughout the story if all the action scenes weren't entertaining enough. What was a love triangle threatened to become a love square with the addition of Micah - the mysterious Kala boy in white that Kris has been dreaming of. Personally I can only take this kind of angst in small doses and ended up reading this book at the same time as another one so I could take breaks from all the drama. Also, I really hate Micah and think he's a creepy tool. Aside from that, I really enjoyed the rest of the story and though it was well-written and well-paced. The ending was also really good in that it wrapped a lot of things up but left a clear path for the next book in the series. My favourite part about this book was Anyway, this is a great series and I'd highly recommend picking it up if you're looking for a good action-packed young-adult paranormal series. I can't wait for the next book and will be eagerly awaiting its arrival to find out what happens next in this awesome story.
Just as bad as the first book in the series just add a few more love interest and hardly any story line there you have it Sacrificed. How in love with herself can Kris get. I can honestly say this was a difficult audio book to listen too it was so boring i kept tuning out. The whole story line was constantly being shoved aside to listen to how much involve with her each of the guys was and how she did not want to kiss them all except Nathan who low and behold at one point was on her taboo list as they may have similar parentage in some freaky way.
A continuation from the first in the series keeping up the many twists as you make your way farther into the story. A Good read. Thank you Desni Dantone
Between a 4.0-4.5, but I rounded up because I couldn’t put this book down! It was a roller coaster; you came down from one huge moment, and another immediately followed. The only thing I didn’t like was (as someone else mentioned) the love triangle, which was actually more of a love Y.
Plot: In hopes of saving themselves, Kris and Alec, along with Nathan and Callie, have been roaming around trying to find out how the Skotadi are converting the Kala. Along the way, they run into Micah (i.e., the boy in white who Kris keeps dreaming of killing). Kris’ gang and Micah’s gang decide to team up and work together. As they continue to search for answers, Kris learns more about her heritage and her true purpose with Micah. Matters become even more complicated as Kris and Alec begin the change to Skotadi, and everyone realizes they are running out of time.
Characters: As in Ignited, the primary characters all worked well together; in fact my favorite scenes are the ones where Nathan and Alec team up to fight or get information. In Sacrificed, that dynamic is there. Micah just puts a little bit of a damper on it.
In the last book, I was pretty happy with Kris. She was strong, but not snarky and aware of her emotions without being whiny. Things are a little different this time around. She’s so indecisive that it becomes annoying. She’s either pining after Nathan or lusting after Alec. Nathan (my hero) doesn’t help matters any. Throughout their journey, he tries – albeit often unsuccessfully – to fight his attraction to Kris. Alec, on the other hand, is very open about his feelings toward her. With Nathan continuing to be the broody, yet passionate protector and Alec being the fun-loving flirty one, they are both great guys. I just like Kris better with Nathan. Plus I kind of always hoped that Alec would get together with Kris’ best friend Callie, who seems to be able to handle anything – and there are a lot of things thrown at her – while remaining perpetually perky.
Micah, aka the boy in white, also seems drawn to me. For some reason, I just didn’t like Micah very much. I’m not sure whether it was the fact that he was another obstacle for Kris and Nathan or that he didn’t have very much personality. It didn’t help that once Kris called him the boy in white, I automatically thought of the little bald boy in X-men: The Last Stand. I couldn’t get an accurate picture of him after that, so it never seemed plausible for him and Kris to be drawn to each other.
There are a couple more new characters, Gabby and Richie, but we don’t know a whole lot about them, and Lillian is back and more vengeful than ever.
Writing: I was really impressed with Ignited, as it was Desni Dantone’s first book. I worried that she might fall into the sophomore slump, but that didn’t happen. She continues to be super easy to read, making the most of every situation and keeping the readers on edge as often as possible. I found a few misspelled words sprinkled throughout, but that’s definitely not one of the things I’ll remember most about the book.
Bottom Line: This was a pretty good little book. I didn’t want to put it down, so I finished it in two nights. (Then I panicked because the next one won’t be out until later this year.) Don’t worry though…. The story doesn’t have a cliffhanger. We know the story continues, but Dantone at least gives us the closure we need until that happens.
3.5 stars The Skotadi believes that Kris is some sort of “The One”. She is supposed to go “dark side” and eradiate the world of their enemies. We finally get to met Micah, the strange boy from Kris dreams. He is supposed to be her nemesis, but for some reasons, he wants to joint force with her and become allies. He also believes that him and Kris are soulmates and is super creepy.
“If Micah though we were going to start picking out china patterns together, he was seriously mistaken. If anything, I wanted to pound the hell out of him.”
Nathan is keeping Kris at arm’s length and need some time to think about his feelings. That mean no smootchs, even if Kris is constantly thinking about it. Ok fine, they do kiss couples of times but there is always drama not long after. And there is also Alex (yes there is three guys after Kris…) He was so annoying with his “I know you want me” & flirtation routine. Just leave the girl alone! Kris doesn’t help since she thinks he is hot and must remind herself that she is love with Nathan. (Even if he is giving her the cold shoulders). Ok so the love quartet is annoying, but strangely I found this book super entertaining. I am rooting for Nathan so all the other guys, back off!
All I can say about this book is "Wow." Not just any kind of 'wow,' but an awesome, impressive, awe-inspiring kind of 'Wow."
This book was beyond amazing. There are many characters from a numerous amount of series who go through a period of struggle with their 'inner demons,' and have just the darnedest of times trying to overcome them and save everyone else from them. However, I'm not sure that anyone else has experienced quite the level of inner demon control that Kris has. She was literally BORN to be evil. Yet despite this, she has STILL managed to overcome her darker self and continued to fight for her better half.
To me, Kris is the epitome of perseverance and determination in fighting for the light. None have it harder than she, and her fight makes a huge statement of commitment to protecting the good in life and enduring the bad so that better days may find there way into her life.
Gah, I like Micah, I dislike Kris and most of the things she does. Back the frick off of Nathan, focus on not self destructing and ending the world. Stop putting pressure on the poor guy who is in over his head trying to fix this whole mess. And seriously, how many times does Nathan have to get shot before she thinks she might ease up on him a little. Demi god or not. The dreams with Micah where she's all happy and lovely annoy me as well, I get that she is a demon created to hate him and the dreams are their happy place. But when you add Alec into the mix, it was all so much to the point I feel the author just really likes writing about girls that are wanted by all the hot men they come into contact with. It was kind of sad to read tbh.
What can I say? Ignited was good but Sacrificed was better, as this story continues to evolve it gets even better. I can't wait to see how things evolve in the next book. Which by the way can't be released soon enough. Kris is just now getting a grip on who she is and potentially who she will become and as her heart chooses Nathan will her soul choose Micah? Don't get me wrong I'm all for Nathan getting his girl but I have a feeling it won't be that easy. If you haven't read Ignited please do so before picking this book up. I can't wait to get my hands on the next installment Salvaged Soul. Happy reading!
I'm actually considering leaving it here since its actually got quite a nice ending. however I want to find out what happens. I really enjoyed this book and I would have given it 5 stars if the main action scene had actually shown more action but otherwise it was great
Such a great read! I'm so thrilled to have found this series. It has everything that I love in a paranormal romance. I'm so glad that all 4 books are out so I can start on the next one immediately!
I enjoyed this sequel to Ignited. The characters were as fun as I remembered. As for her love interests... 1. Micah- I just don't like him. He has way too many secrets and just saying someone is your soulmate doesn't make it true. He obviously has no true feelings for her other than maybe friendship. 2. Nathan - He annoys me with his attitude. He obviously has no clue what he wants. He seems to only be interested in her when someone else is moving in on her. Nobody else can have her but he doesn't want her either. Then he admits to loving her but it seems more selfish than real love. 3. Alec - Now this guy I like. He is fun and flirty but he is truly in love with her. So in love that he steps aside because he thinks that will make her happy. She did follow him. I feel that shows something is truly there on her side also.. even if she ignores it for what she thinks she wants.
I did find it sad that Callie is sent packing. I like her being there as buffer against all that testosterone. I can't imagine how the next book will be. Especially since they are past the prophecy. I am definitely curious as to where the series goes now.
I am loving this series so much that I just had to jump into book 2. I’m loving where the story goes kris is learning about herself and training. They’re trying to find out why she’s wanted to badly and she finally meets the boy from her dream Micah. He helps her with her gifts but there is something he’s hiding from her. Her relationship with Nathan is tested with self in the picture and how that she has Callie her best friend with her she’s not as afraid. That is until she starts to change and now she’s afraid of hurting those she loves. They all get captured and her love for Nathan is put to the test again. I’m so glad they both share how they really feel and I swear in never disliked a character more than I do Lillian. I was on the edge of my seat the last few chapters when they were captured and I must say I liked that it wasn’t so drawn out! Great book can’t wait to read the 3rd next
This is a good read. Audible brings the book to life. I would recommend. I don't tell what is in the books I read. That is for you to read and find out. Three boys to choose from. One chosen, but others still on her mind. Choices, choices. Off to my next adventure. Hope you enjoy
Interesting enough to keep reading and see how the story progresses. Not awesome enough to want to re-read. I am thankful, however, that the almost-love-triangle didn’t progress and ended basically before it began. I wouldn’t mind a little more action packed scenes btwn the good & bad sides. Hopefully book 3 picks up!
This series continues to thoroughly entertain. The teenage angst did get a bit much a few times but I continued reading because I really enjoyed how the overall plot and characters were developing. I look forward to reading the next book in this series
I loved this series. It was recommended by the author of the course of the gods series and it was well made. Strong female lead mixed in with Greek mythology and some romance. Loved it!
This book is amazing. I honestly could not put it down and it was perfectly paced. The new characters that were added really worked with the story and I loved the whole thing. I'm just wishing Kris was with Alec because I'm definitely team Alec.
This series is growing on me. A light-hearted reading with sufficient action packed into the storyline. My only gripe is typo/grammatical errors (a few).
