His novels and short stories are characterized by their dreamy abstractness and romantic appeal. His essays reveal the soul of a true wanderer providing some of the most beautiful renditions of travel in Bengal. His love for forests and nature provide the background for many of his novels.
A highly successful chartered accountant by profession, and an accomplished musician, Guha is very urbane in his lifestyle. He was one of the first to create characters representing easy-going, upper middle-class modern Bengali families, whom readers could identify with, and that gave him instant popularity.
He is the recipient of many awards including Ananda Puraskar, 1976; Shiromani Puraskar; and Sharat Puraskar.
The Library of Congress has over fifty titles by him. His most famous novel, according to many, is Madhukori. It is considered a milestone in Bengali literature.
He is also the creator of Rijuda, an imaginary character who moves about in jungles with his sidekick Rudra. The jungles that he wrote about were mainly in Eastern India.

"সমগ্র হিসেবে ঋজুদা ২ কিন্তু সেরা।গুগুনোগুম্বারের দেশে বা রুআহা দুটোই দারুণ কিন্তু কেমন যেন আসল ঋজুদা নয়।ঋজুদা মানে কিন্তু পালামৌ,ওড়িশার জঙ্গল-ওগুলোই আসল।" বইটা পড়ার পরামর্শ দিয়ে বলেছিলেন সোমদাদা। কেন বলেছিলেন তা পড়ার পর উপলব্ধি করলাম।
"ঋজুদা সমগ্র ২" ছোটদের জন্য লেখা, আবার ছোটদের জন্য নয়ও। ঋজুদা সমগ্র ১ এর নিটোল কাহিনি বা টানটান উত্তেজনা এ সংকলনে বলতে গেলে নেই।আছে অরণ্য, প্রকৃতিপ্রেম, শিকার, অরণ্যচারী, সাধারণ মানুষের জীবনপ্রবাহ, বন্যপ্রাণী ও সাধারণ মানুষের প্রতি ভালোবাসা।গল্পগুলোর নিজস্ব আত্মা আছে।
প্রথম উপন্যাস "ঋজুদার সঙ্গে জঙ্গলে" পড়লেই বোঝা যাবে লেখক ও তার চরিত্ররা প্রকৃতির কাছে নিজেদের সমর্পণ করেছেন।
অন্য শিকার,বাঘের মাংস,ঋজুদার সঙ্গে লবঙ্গি- বনে,বনবিবির বনে,টাঁড়বাঘোয়া উপন্যাসগুলোতে নিরীহ শিকার কাহিনির আড়ালে পাকিয়ে উঠছে অন্য কিছু- কোনো গভীর বেদনা,কোনো নির্মম বাস্তব,কোনো সরল জীবনদর্শন।
এ সংকলন পড়ে আনন্দের চাইতে আমার বিস্ময়ের পরিমাণ বেশি। অনেক বছর আগে মহাশ্বেতা দেবীর "শ্রেষ্ঠ গল্প"এর সাথে ভারতবর্ষ ভ্রমণে বেরিয়েছিলাম। সে ছিলো রূঢ়, কঠোর, ক্ষমাহীন এক ভারতবর্ষ ভ্রমণ। সেই ভারতবর্ষের একঝলক দেখা পাবো ছোটদের জন্য লেখা রোমাঞ্চ উপন্যাস সংকলনে,এটা ভাবতেই পারিনি।

বনে বাদারে ঘুরে বেড়ানোর নেশা আমার ছোটবেলা থেকেই । সেই সাথে শিকার এর নেশাও । নাহ, বন্দুক দিয়ে না । ক্যামেরা দিয়ে বনের ভেতর শিকার করতে ভীষণ পছন্দ করি আমি । বইটা পড়ার সময়, প্রতিটা মুহুর্তে নিজেকে ঋজুদার সহযাত্রী হিসেবে ভেবেছি । আমার জন্মের আগের লেখা, কিন্তু পড়তে পড়তে ভেবেছি, আমিও ওই সময়ে বসবাসকারী একজন । আমার পড়া অন্যতম সেরা বই । প্রিয় বইগুলোর মধ্যে একটি ।
কলকাতার কলেজ স্ট্রীট থেকে কিনেছি পুরো সমগ্র । প্রতিটা বইয়ের প্রচ্ছদ অসাধারণ । সেই সাথে আমার বইগুলোর ভেতরে ছোটখাটো স্কেচ করে দিয়েছেন বন্ধুবর, আর্টিস্ট অসীম ।
বইগুলোর বেশীরভাগই পড়েছি ব্যাঙ্গালুর থেকে কলকাতায় যাওয়ার পথে, ট্রেনে বসে । অসাধারণ সেইসব মুহুর্ত ।
ধন্যবাদ বন্ধু শাফিউল আনামকে, এইবইগুলো পড়ার রেফারেন্স তার কাছ থেকেই পাওয়া । শিকার কাহিনী পড়তে ভালোবাসি শুনেই বলে দিলো, এই বইগুলোর ব্যাপারে৷
আমি বলবো, একবসায় পড়ে শেষ করা যায়, এমন বই ।

I have read this book countless number of times. A nice reading on jungle adventures. The stories are moving around for hunting of man eaters in different Indian jungles. In once case it's for the trail of a rogue elephant. The best of of the lot is one of my favourite, "Rijudar Sange Jungle e" meaning "With Rijuda In the Jungle." The narration of Indian jungles in different seasons is simply superb. The picture I can vividly recall in closed eyes.

Various Shikar stories..full of atmosphere and describes a lost time . A book to get lost in ..
