At forty-three, and after twenty-six years of a chaotic life and a toxic relationship with alcohol, Lisa knows it’s now time to break the never-ending cycle. She needs to say goodbye to Party Girl and lay her to rest. Lisa takes us on a rollercoaster ride through recovery, through air-punching highs and desperate, heart-wrenching lows. An inspirational and never-to-be-forgotten true story of strength, resilience and new beginnings that will have you belly laughing and grabbing for the tissues at the same time.
Your journey, courageously shared with such raw honesty and vulnerability, is nothing short of inspiring. I found myself turning each page with anticipation, drawn by your candid reflections and the palpable sense of your determination that permeates every page. Thank you for providing a source of inspiration and encouragement. I am confident your book will help many others find their path to sobriety. Clair Chadwick, founder, Cause UK
You’ve depicted a very honest account of your experiences in and out of recovery and managed to put it across in a manner people will relate to, using humour along with humility. Neil Firbank, founder, Recovery Games
Firstly, I absolutely commend what the author achieved and I can only imagine how difficult it is for anyone struggling with alcohol addiction. Lisa Peacock seems like a wonderful woman and I think it’s fantastic that she shared her story, and will likely help many others going through similar experiences. I totally agree with Lisa that drinking culture (particularly in England and Ireland) can be extremely damaging.
BUT, I always rate books based on the overall quality of writing and the impact of the writing. In my opinion the writing wasn’t fantastic and felt a bit repetitive. This is the type of memoir that could really benefit with a few relevant statistics included which can help to break up sections and add to the overall impact - in this case statistics may have been useful to show just how many people struggle with alcoholism / addiction.
Nevertheless, I’m sure this book will help many and ultimately that is more important than the quality of the writing itself.
This book was very inspiring for just not alcoholic, but other addictions sex , drugs, etc. Every day is a challenge and we face triggers and challenges. With this book, that Ms. Peacock that is a trusted friend that has confronted her demons and gets it.
I wish I knew you in person Lisa. Your story is so much like mine. I loved your story, your humor, and your tenacity to not give up. Thank you! You have inspired me to continue on my road to recovery and success!
