The zombie army is ready. The assassins are ready. But...is the San Diego PPD ready? Chief Jin Kannon has his elite crew locked, loaded, and ready to dish out some serious beatdowns. But even he knows the harsh truth—they’re still heavily outnumbered. And to make matters worse, they’re up against a horde of the undead, a relentless army of zombies who don’t give a damn about pain or death—except when they’re the ones dealing it out in spades.
Meanwhile, Lord Vestin is practically vibrating with sinister excitement. He’s got the numbers on his side, and his smug grin widens every time he thinks about it. His army dwarfs Kannon's forces, and with Emiliano, his cold-blooded new second-in-command, there’s no doubt in his mind that Kannon and his crew are in for a world of hurt. Emiliano’s the kind of guy who won’t stop until every last piece of Vestin’s twisted plan is laid out perfectly.
The odds are stacked high, the tension’s thick enough to choke on, and the clock’s ticking as one of the most notorious comic convention erupts into chaos.
Can Chief Kannon, his PPD crew, and their assassin allies find even a flicker of hope in this swirling shitstorm? If not, the fallout won’t just scorch the innocent—it’ll set the entire world ablaze.

NoThis third and, alas, final book of the SDPPD was a brilliant ending to Chief Jin Kannon's experience in serving in a Topside Police Department.
How he and his Team came up against the Vampire, Lord Veltin, and his Zombie Army, was both hilarious, and super creepy, and I loved that mix of humour and such a weird kind of horror! Lol
I'm very sad to see Jin go, though I have just been given a short story involving him, that I'm very eager to read, called 'Dumbstruck', so I'm hoping I'll be able to tell you about that once I've finished reading it.
But, once that's read, I'll be popping back to the last few unread series that I have, by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle, and I think I'm going to start the 'School of Roots and Vines' series, with Book One being: 'Sophie Briggs and the Spike of Death'.
I've just searched, and the short story 'Dumbstruck', isn't in the Goodreads catalogue, so I won't be able to review it, officially but, if it's anything like the trilogy, it's going to be worth the read!
I got the story by signing up to John P. Logsdon's news email - I'd already signed up with Jenn Mitchell, last year, so this was worth it to get the free short story! Lol
So, I'll read 'Dumbstruck', then Sophie Briggs, book one, and then I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I thought of them both!
NB:
I just finished Dumbstruck!
OMG, it was hilarious!
I think every fart joke, ever, was beaten by this story! Lol
I loved it, & it followed in seamlessly from the previous book!
Now, to me, this didn't sound like the end of Jin Kannon's story, so I'm going to be keeping a close eye . . . Just in case! 👍🤣
That being said this book was actually the perfect length, but I love the PPD, and this SERIES was just too short… ***sigh*** I guess we can’t have everything.
I have to say though, that I have to agree with Jin’s final thought, which is actually the final sentence of the book. He really SHOULD have seen that coming. I was hoping that the event in question would form a fourth book, but instead we DO get a free short story that covers it. Like I said, I guess we can’t have everything. lol
Keep up the good and hilarious work, John! Outstanding. And Jenn, I’m excited to see what you do in your own series. Seriously looking forward to it!
Jin is forced to step up even more in his new life as the final battle for San Diego happens. This feels like a long awaited conclusion but also sooner than I would have liked. As this is a new collaboration I'm not sure if we will see more from the precinct but after this brilliant piece of writing I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Thunderstruck by John P Logsdon and Jenn Mitchell is a great story with a lot of fun and humor, and varied characters. You have the evil vampire not-so-mastermind, a zombie army, assassins, and many others. So take a break and have some fun reading this book.
Vol 3 of the SDPPD surges ahead with the story so far. It is difficult to right a review without giving spoilers. We finally see Raina’s Dark Unicorn and several characters grow into their own. The culmination of events from the first two books is handled well. Oh, and I definitely would go and see “Anklebiters the movie”.
A succubus, assassins, zombies, vampires, and a thong designer....... Put all these in a story and you have a great tale that will keep you interested and laughing at times while the bad person tries to take over the world. Hated to see the last book end. I enjoyed all 3 books.
Again I laughed until my ribs hurt. The characters are very well developed and not only fun but interesting too. As I was reading until 2 am, I am not sorry I was a grump all day.
The final book was the best of bunch. This series had some interesting new characters, plus we got some Easter eggs from some of the other PPDs. Reading about the Retrievers made me miss Reaper and Piper. Having said that though, being reminded of the other departments showed just how much this series was lacking. Jin’s time as an assassin was still the most interesting part of the book. I could see a series of vignettes dealing with his and some of the other assassins’ greatest missions. Chancellor Frey has got to have some great stories. Hopefully, we will get to read some of them.
Wasn't too certain about the beginning but decided to give it a chance. The author has a sharp sense of humor that got me laughing. The characters are interesting takes on mythology. Does feel like it was short changed and, since I have now completely the series, all three books should have been combine into one. The break points don't make sense and don't actually encourage one to read the next book in the series. Over all enjoyable but feels poorly broken up.
