DUKE SIMON - Extremely cold person (did to his upbringing) has no intention of ever being in love - marrying or having children, his younger brother will marry and his children will inherit the title. A MARRIAGE has been arranged for him and will take place soon.
LADY OCTAVIA - a very kind young lady her parents died in a carriage accident when she was very young (she was the only survivor). Octavia wanted to travel she is not interest in marrying - her young cousin though is due to marry the dukes younger brother swiftly everything is going well. UNTIL - she disappears before the wedding without leaving a note of information of what has happened. UNFORTUNATELY - the dukes younger brother who was to marry her has disappeared as well. SIMON has to put this right before everyone finds out ( He had people out searching for them believing they may be together). As time runs out the Duke suggests that he marry Octavia which will silence the gossip. THIS IS A GREAT STORY THE INTERACTION BETWEEN OCTAVIA AND SIMON IS GOOD NEITHER WANTED THIS - TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES. I read this within two days - curiosity I needed to know what happened, my heart went out to Octavia. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT I RECEIVED AN ARC.
This marriage of convenience had a rocky start. Both of them were against getting married. They spent the beginning of their marriage bickering. Their arguments got a little boring to me after they kept happening. They finally found their way to friendship with led to their physical attraction, but they still were afraid to admit their feelings. When things seem to be getting better there was still wasted time that made the story longer than it needed to be. The story just seemed to focus more on the bickering and the main characters’ relationships with the other people in their lives than with one another. I wasn’t really sure if I liked the characters or not so I could only give 3.5 stars, but I do like a HEA.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion in this review.
I was happy that Simon was so disgusted by his parents marriage, but I hated that he even suggested doing the same thing, though glad it was shot lived. I did like how strong Octavia was & didn't let his attitude, stop or control her. I found his ideas & actions to be frustrating at times though I was glad he regretted them & changed. Ones Simon & Octavia started getting close, I did enjoy their relationship, the way they teased each other was entertaining, there was a fair bit of humorous throughout the book, it started slow, then was enjoyable. starting to drag around page 280, But the end was really nice.
I enjoyed this story but there were a number of mistakes which made it a little confusing at times. Also, Simon's name changes to Cassin on three occasions. The story is interesting but I felt annoyed with Duke Simon's attitude at times. He was stubborn and did not want to bend, even though Octavia was willing to try for the sake of their marriage of convenience. There were some points which bothered me: - the way Octavia found a clue about Isolde was far fetched and what happened to Simon's brother? Overall, I enjoyed the story.
I felt that some of the bickering between the main characters could have been shortened. I didn’t understand how the heroine and hero marrying would stop the gossip of his brother and her cousin not marrying. The hero was very distant t the beginning which was due a lot to his upbringing. The heroine was easy to like and very optimistic even if she had experienced a horrific accident as a young girl. She tries to make the best of their marriage of convenience. What happened to his brother and her cousin could make another story.
This book was as a mystery. Never knowing what they were going to do with each other. Forced into marriage for them both. And not liking it. Married and living in a large mansion they were trying to stay out of each others way. Every time they seem to be okay one or the other would start an argument. Which wasn't so bad at least they were speaking. The problem is they were always told how to act. Hope you enjoy.
Two people in an arranged marriage That neither wanted. But thru many Mishaps their attachment starts to Change & grow. But Two missing persons are also on the agenda & that puts a damper on their loving happiness until a separation happens. And it changes everything. This is a reread & worth reading again & again.
To prevent a scandal Octavia and Simon have to marry although he never wants to and she would rather travel after much bickering the two fall in love in this wonderful story
A heartwarming story of overcoming a child's bad childhood
This is a marvelous story of a couple forced into marriage due to unusual circumstances. Though many problems arose, eventually the couple are able to resolve the issues.
I found the story to be fascinating, full of love, drama, intrigue, suspense, and a little deception. They had to struggles as most married people do, but they had the additional problem of trying to overcome the scan with his parents.
From start to finish, it held my attention. I loved the story, and the slow journey it took from beginning to end made it that much more enticing. One of those, ' I will just read the next chapter'. Which actually means I will read the book.
Simon and Octavia have chemistry from the beginning. It takes Simon awhile to lean into it but when they did it was steamy. I got a little confused by Simon being referred to Cassin about 3 times in the book. I do recommend this book!
Can’t wait to read Isolde and Alexander’s stories too. Really enjoyed this one. A little bit of mystery there. No major aggravations. Would read again.
Simon never wanted children due to the poor parenting he had experienced. Then is marriage of convenience to Octavia gave him love and. Acceptance of his worth
Great characters in this book that details their conflicted relationship as they navigate an arranged marriage, missing family members, and past trials.
The story line was nice and light. The editing left a bit to be desired. One or two typos I would be ok with, however they were everywhere throughout the story.
