The Astrellian Heirs

The Awakening of Gods

Rate this book
On the continent of Astrellia, Princess Elana Sable is perfectly content to live a quiet life in her family's shadow, even if it means she's stuck learning how to be a good wife and a healer instead of how to fight or rule. Her older sister, Aislinn, the crown princess of Adrithia, is preparing to complete the once-in-a-generation quest alongside the heirs of neighboring kingdoms to earn the gods' elemental powers. Should each heir succeed, harmony and peace shall be secured for all-but there's no guarantee the heirs will survive the gods' tasks, or the treacherous mountain range on which the challenges take place.

At the ceremony where Aislinn will officially take her place as heir and embark on her journey, the gods' messenger declares Elana the true heir instead. With the kingdom shocked, and Elana reeling from being chosen, she must quickly learn how to fight and survive in nearly impossible situations. Pushed to the limit physically and mentally, Elana must step out of her sister's shadow and defy the odds to complete the trials. She must forge new alliances-including with the dangerous yet devastatingly handsome Prince Aidan-and navigate politics as dangerous as any sword fight, all while impressing the gods enough to earn their favor.

With war brewing on the continent, it's more important than ever for the kingdoms to work together to protect their people and their way of life. Elana could be the key to victory, or the catalyst for destroying the continent's fragile peace.

Listed as Morgan Kielisch's debut, this is a very strong, very robust fantasy novel, shocking that it is a first for the author. Where has this author been hiding? I expect we will see quite a bit of her name around soon!

This book centers on Elana Stable, a second born princess. Her sister Aislinn, first born, is the next in line, and therefore has been trained her whole life for the Crowning Ceremony and challenge that follows. The challenge comes once in a generation (think the Tri-Wizards Cup) and requires years of preparation.
While her sister has prepared for this gauntlet, Elana has learned other skills. Skills that will benefit her future husband and those she will serve. She has some healer skills, but ultimately she is a quiet, respectful girl with no aspirations for greatness.
So imagine everyone's surprise when Aislinn is NOT chosen at the Crowning Ceremony. Instead, the phoenix places a crown on Elana's head. She will be joining other heirs at God's Peak for the challenges her sister trained years for! GULP.

Here's where the story takes off and it's everything a fantasy novel should be. Quests, alliances, dragons, cute/witty boys,...wait that's what I look for in a fantasy book...

But really, this was done so well, especially the world building. It never felt bulky and yet it is filled with rich storyline.
Beware, this does end in a cliffhanger, and while it will be released on September 12th, I don't know when the next installment is due. But similar to Fourth Wing, I believe it is WELL WORTH THE WAIT.

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for a chance to read prior to publication in exchange for my honest review.

My mind is certifiably BLOWN that this is a DEBUT novel. I picked this up at an event with The Well Red Damsel because I love fantasy/romantasy and Morgan was so sweet when I met her, but I am ready to camp out on Morgan’s front porch until she gives me the next book.

I was hooked from the first chapter and felt fully immersed in the world. I loved learning about the lore of the various gods and the backgrounds of each character. The way sisterly bonds are portrayed in this book also was just perfection, and healthy, supportive friendships were also present. But there were some big shocking revelations that made me literally scream at my book and the yearning between Elana and Aidan made me swoon a little (this book has just a pinch of spice, but it is definitely still a romantasy!!!).

The balance between character development and plot was spot on, as was the pacing. I truly have nothing negative to say about this book other than it ends on a cliffhanger and the next book isn’t out yet! 🤣

I sobbed my way through the last few chapters of the book. Literally. It has been 15 minutes, and I am still crying. I think I’m alright, and then I think about the ending again and my eyes start to well back up.

So yeah, this is me telling you to go read The Awakening of Gods by Morgan Kielisch immediately. 5 trillion ⭐️s!

BookSirens ARC Review✨

The Awakening of Gods
By Morgan Kielisch
Pub Date 09/12/24

In her debut novel The Awakening of Gods, Morgan Kielisch takes you on a journey that I could not put down.

When Elana is chosen by the gods as the heir to her kingdom over her older sister, she must prepare for the quest and trials she has to endure in order to receive her power from the gods.

With little time to train, she heads to the mountain range where she and the other 4 Heirs of her neighboring realms must complete challenges sent by the gods. Along the way each one is bestowed a gift of power by the gods but earning those gifts is a challenge in itself. Elana must stay alive to keep her kingdom safe but with rivals in their group she must outsmart them and help keep them all alive.

She strikes up unlikely friendships while up on the mountain range but the most surprising is with the dangerous and mysterious, Aidan. Why did her sister earn her about him?

After their missions are complete and they return home, Elana learns of a battle coming to her land. She must use her new powers to save her country or they will perish. Can she harness the power within to save the people she cares about?

This was such a good debut novel but Morgan...girl...the ending??? OMG, when is book 2 coming out? I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!

Thank you for the ARC, Book Sirens!

I really enjoyed the concept of this book - a princess unexpectedly chosen to be heir, with part of the deal being that she has to participate in a gruelling trial alongside other heirs in order to receive her blessing from the Gods.

I found the pacing to be good, there was always something happening. I thought the book would have ended after the trials, but it set up the scene for the next book (what a way to end!). I think I would have preferred it to have been fleshed out a bit more so that the impact of the events hit harder.

I enjoyed the sisterly bond between Ash and Elana as well as the friendships she built with the other heirs. I would have liked the romance to take longer to develop, but I do like the love interest (and the nickname they give her is so cute!).

I think this would be a lovely read for anyone wanting to get into the fantasy genre who enjoys a bit of adventure and romance.

The Awakening of Gods
Morgan Kielisch

4.5 stars

“Good morning, Magpie,” he says. “Good morning, degenerate,” I smile back.”

Morgan Kielisch’s debut fantasy brings us a novel that starts The Astrellian Heirs series with bang. The Kingdom of Adrithia gathers together to witness the crowning of the eldest daughter of the King before her journey to the temple of the Gods. No one was prepared for the Phoenix to crown the spare daughter, Elana. That’s where the book takes off and leads us on an adventure, starting with Elana’s crash course in weapons and defense to hopefully give her a fighting chance on the journey with the other four heirs. The test of the mountains promised drama, action, and some good old fashioned rivalry, especially now that Elana was the chosen heir and not her older sister, Aislinn. The generational challenge led the characters to grow and change to become better rulers of their future kingdoms while also helping forge friendships and potential partnerships that would last the rest of their reign.

“Gods, you’re stunning when you smile.”

I was quickly pulled into this story and invested in discovering how Elana’s journey into the temple of the gods went. The plot kept moving forward, and the characters and their decisions supported the storyline, making for an enjoyable read. The twists and turns written into the story were dramatic and stuffed to the brim, but never once did it feel contrived or overdone. Morgan did an excellent job at bringing something interesting to everyone at the table without the story feeling bogged down or heavy. Akin to The Princess Bride, there was adventure, fantasy, creatures, magic, romance, tragedy, betrayal, and more to keep my interest piqued to the very last page. I especially enjoyed the witty banter between the characters, finding Aidan to be absolutely delightful, if not aggravating. I noticed only a few things as I read, such as the incorrect verbiage concerning her mare, Misty, panting. Horses do not pant. Secondly, there were moments where the momentum slowed down in the writing, and it felt lacking in support. I was left wondering what was missing but couldn’t quite grasp it. Neither of these things was massive enough to affect my overall experience with the story negatively and would not stop me from rereading it in the future.

“The path you walk will not be easy, but stay true to your heart, and the world will be a better place for it. Be brave, dear one. Be the light. Be the darkness. Be the gray space in between. Fight for your own destiny.”

In conclusion, The Awakening of Gods by Morgan Kielisch was a fantastic debut novel, and I will be waiting with bated breath for the sequel. This first novel was wonderfully done and has everything a reader would look for in a fantasy novel, with excellent world-building and character representation. There is a cliffhanger at the end of book one, but it’s aptly placed and makes complete sense! I’d recommend this book to anyone looking to get lost in a fantasy world and appreciate how a journey full of challenges can help shape a person and their friendships.

Thank you Morgan for the gifted book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such a fun read! A wonderful debut full of unique magic, forbidden romance, and action 🤭 I really love books with royalty, and this had such an interesting twist on it with the magic!

The plot was very unpredictable at points! I kept thinking I knew what was coming, but I was def wrong 😌 there were so many times I said “just one more chapter” ✋

Elana is the second born princess, and has spent her life thinking she is the spare to be married off. I really loved how different she is from a lot of FMCs I usually read about! She has never been trained in battle or politics and has to quickly learn, but remains determined despite her weaknesses.

I won’t spoil it by talking about the MMC, but he’s so sweet to her 🥹

The romance was super intriguing! I didn’t really know who the love interest would be at first, but when you know you know 😌 I loved the tension and banter and nicknames 🤭

I do think I felt a slight disconnect with the characters at times. I honestly don’t know why, but I just wasn’t in love with them during some scenes. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I think it’s super unique!

This was a decent book, with engaging moments, action, mystery and romance. It was told fine, but all the twists were incredibly predictable and the MFC was a bit shallow. She had some growth but it was never triggered in a way that made sense, my biggest annoyance in romantasy is when the MFC falls over herself because of a handsome man, and that's the focus, rather than the death-defying tasks she faces? When you are running on adrenaline, panicked and close to death are you really focusing on some dude's hair? I should have known though, because in the very first chapter she fastened her corset over her 'curvy breasts'... Objectifying the MFC (in first tense as well) is never a great way to start...

I actually enjoyed the premise, being chosen as the heir unexpectedly and having weeks to train for a quest which will end in her having god-given powers. Fun. She's weak but it's understandable, she has to navigate her family and the other heirs insulting her and not believing she should be there, she needs to adapt and grow across the journey and she does in some ways. I liked the different characters being given their powers, the challenges, the squabbles, even her 'chosen one' reveal.

I wish the book had stopped at the end of the quest though. This is the first book of a series, so the ending of this book could have been its own novel. It was a rushed return home, reveal the seer queen, uncovering treason, reintroduction ball, marriage prospects, warning of war, then the war, loss of the king, then the reveal of the secret (obvious) betrayer... It ruined it to rush through the entire beginning of the conflict that will no doubt continue into the next book. As is prophesied.

If it weren't for the romance and the rushed ending I might have been more interested in the rest of the series.

Great debut!

I was wasting time watching reels on Facebook when an ad popped up for a signing by this author at a bookstore near me. I love meeting and supporting authors, so I checked her out. This book looked like it was right up my alley, as I’ve read many like it with magic and a female main character who has to push herself to be who she’s meant to be.

With just a week before the signing, I dug in. The writing is really good, and I found myself reading whenever I had a chance. The magic is thoroughly thought out and has some abilities I haven’t read before. I loved the characters, too… well, I loved to hate a few of them, but the rest are lovely, and I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

I’m also looking forward to meeting Morgan in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin this Saturday!

Elana is the second child, a spare. Aislinn is the first born, and therefore, the heir. Their lives were set like that. Aislinn trained for the challenges that would happen in the Gods' Territory after the Crowning Ceremony and Elana was taught how to be the perfect lady, the perfect wife. All that came burning down when the phoenix placed the crown on Elana, not Aislinn. She now has just a few weeks to train before joining the other heirs at Gods' Peak. There, they hope to overcome the challenges and have a god deem them worthy and bless them with power.

First I want to say how I loved that Elana has such a supportive family. You don't see that enough in fantasy. Aislinn didn't hate Elana for "taking" the crown, her parents did their best to prepare Elana in the short amount of time she had, and they realized they should have trained both daughters, not just the first born. It was such a breath of fresh air! I spent the whole beginning waiting for the jealously or betrayal and it, thankfully, never came.

This was such a quick read and kept me hooked the entire time. There is just enough world building and explanations, no word vomit or where descriptions drag on and on. I personally loved all the characters; Elana is shy and obedient but learns to toughen up and how she can be a leader. The banter between Elana and Aidan is chief's kiss! I love Rian and Rayna so much, they are amazing friends. Calder is a jerk and I hate him haha. He has a lot of family and ego issues. Alric was sweet at first, but then he got so clingy... I got Dain vibes haha (from "Fourth Wing"). I absolutely loved this book but that cliffhanger!?! I need that next book NOW!!

The only thing I didn't really understand was the warning Aislinn gave Elana. She said to stay away from Prince Aidan, that he was quick to anger and the most dangerous. But we never saw any proof of that. If anything, Aislinn should have spent more time warned Elana about Prince Calder. Slight Spoiler: Now if Calder and Elana got together, I'd say then this book would fall in the "enemies-to-lovers."

The Awakening of Gods has:
- Supportive Sisters/Family
- Deadly Trials/Epic Journey
- Very Little Spice
- Lots of Banter
- Reluctant Hero
- War/Battle
- Gods/Goddesses
- Elemental Powers

Some Favorite Quotes:
- “My name is Prince Aidan Ashfall, but you, bunny, can call me Your Handsomeness, Your Regalness, or Your Exalted One, whichever you like."

- " “I’m following you, Magpie, so don’t even think about falling behind again. I’d like to get home this century,” he says, a smirk pulling up a corner of his lips. Like he didn’t threaten another heir just moments ago.
“Magpie?” I ask as I walk, scowling.
“Ah, yes, I’ve decided you’re too foul-tempered and noisy for a bunny,” he says."

- “You deserve a chance to rule. So don’t die, Magpie. I want to see you soar.”

This has:
🖤 forbidden romance & forced proximity
✨ deadly trials
🖤 "touch her and die"
✨ friends to enemies
🖤 he would burn the world down for her
✨ unique magic system

This was such a fantastic debut! I was hooked immediately, and I really enjoyed the pacing and the world building. The story was unique, and we had three badass women to root for which is always my favorite in a fantasy book/series. I loved the empowering and uplifting relationship they all had with each other. The sister banter between Ash and Elana was top class.

The trials aspect was a lot of fun to read, and the characters felt fleshed out. The MMC in this is *so good* and I loved the dynamic between him and Elana. I won't say much else just to try and avoid some spoilers, but I *love* a man that respects his girl and her autonomy. Very much "whatever you say" instead of "do what I say" and I'm here for it.

I absolutely stayed up all night finishing this and cried my little eyes out at the end. The magic system was fascinating, and I loved learning about the Gods and their powers, and how each heir was selected. The final scenes were heart wrenching, and really put everything we had learned up to that point into action. I can't wait to see how it further plays out the following books. That cliffhanger??!! I need the sequel *immediately*!!

I did sort of sense two of the twists coming, but not because it was obvious - I think Morgan did an amazing job writing this and think I was just picking up what she was throwing down. There were a couple lingering questions, which is why this is getting a 4.5/5 instead of a full 5 star rating. I'm hoping the answers are coming next book though.

Favorite quotes:

"You're making a huge mistake, Semere."
"The only mistake around here is the one your mother made when she married your father."

"If you don't stand down, Ashfall, I'll kill you too."
Aidan's answering chuckle is humorless. "Go ahead and try, Bubble Boy."

"Why would that damned soot chicken choose me instead of Ash?"

This book was amazing! I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Elana and Aislinn are sisters in their father's kingdom of Adrithia. As is customary, the King and Queen and the sisters set out for the Crowning Ceremony. The Crowning Ceremony is where the God's messenger will place a crown on the head of the King and Queen's eldest (normally) child. But in this case, the God's place the crown on the youngest of the two, Elana. This is unheard of and Aislinn has been preparing her whole life for this moment, training to lead her people. Elana has not. Elana feels drastically not prepared but her sister takes it upon herself to teach her sister all that she can in the 20 days before she sets off for the God's challenges.
Once Elana sets off got the God's territories and challenges, she not only feels inadequate but she has to deal with the fact that some people think she stole the crown for herself, that the God's did not choose her for this role.
During the trials Elana finds out that she is much stronger than she ever knew herself to be. There is another heir to another kingdom as part of the trials who maintains the entire time that Elana does not deserve to be a part of the God's trials that she must have stolen the crown, that she doesn't have what it takes to complete the God's trials. More than this is when Elana finally sees the God of the powers she will be blessed with, it is not like the other's powers. She is blessed with something that no one has been blessed with for a thousand years so people fear that too.
I love Elana's perseverance and her kindness and her willingness to do whatever she can to aid her new found friends and even the one who seems to hate her most. I also love how her family steps in and supports her every step of the way even though they are as shocked as Elana at the results of the Crowning Ceremony.
There is a major twist at the end. I look forward to more of Elana's journey in Book 2 of The Awakening of God's!

Wow! What an incredibly well written story. If you like adventure stories with unsung unexpected heroes, kings and queens, mythological gods and creatures, a wonderful fantasy world, an action packed storyline, and an underdog story pick this book up immediately. I was hooked within the first chapter and couldn’t put it down until I got to the very last sentence on the last page. Oh what an ending that was!!

Elana goes into this adventure with the odds against her, the world against her and yet despite the fear of the unknown and the assumptions and hatred towards her from the people of her kingdom. she puts her best foot forward and shows up as herself. She has everything to prove to the world and boy does she prove it!

All of the other characters in this story enhance the likeability of Elana and helps you further love this goofy and very relatable character. You find yourself rooting for her and wanting with every single page that goes by for her to get everything she could want and more.

This first installment of the series sets a great foundation for the main characters as well as some of the secondary ones. It leaves us with many unanswered questions throughout the book as well as one hell of cliffhanger. Just when you think you have it figured out which direction the plot is going, your attention if rerouted to a different direction and it only adds to the list of speculations.

If you are looking for a really good book, fun lovable characters as well as some to dislike or loathe, and one hell of a cliffhanger to bring you back to the next book in a series this is the book you need.

I can't rave enough about this book (especially in such limited space)! I loved it from beginning to end –– yes, even the ending that left me with my jaw on the floor! Book Two can't come soon enough!!!
I read this book in two days! I couldn't put it down!! The author penned a beautiful world and lovely characters. The world building was just right and not an overwhelming word dump. The banter between characters was excellent *chef's kiss* I especially loved the sisters relationship; Ash and El were wonderful to read on page. I don't see enough positive sister relationship portrayals, so, this one was beyond refreshing! Especially when things could have been bad because of the crowning ceremony, but they weren't. I really loved these characters! The ending brought tears to my eyes and then it left me furiously swiping to read more but there wasn't more because it was over! On that cliffhanger!!!
I'll definitely be rereading this one just to visit Astrellia and the characters. I highly recommend this book!

Side notes: I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but let me just say, that some of the *men* and their actions caused a lot of verbal reactions in my household. I won't get into specifics because I don't want there to be spoilers, but if you're curious... see chapter 7!!! What was he thinking! Chapter 11, IYKYK. Chapter 14 and honestly, just Calder in general... well, you'll see. Chapter 34, one "Lord" in particular... *spit take* and then who she dances with after... BOY! Take a hint! Alright, that's enough from me. Enjoy the book!

Absolutely Captivating Debut!

The Awakening of Gods hooked me from the very first page. Morgan Kielisch has created a beautifully woven world full of danger, heart, and unforgettable characters.

Elana, the second daughter of Adrithia’s king, never expected to be chosen as heir. That was supposed to be her sister’s destiny—until fate (and the gods) intervene. Suddenly Elana has less than a month to prepare for the grueling trials that will determine her worthiness. I loved following her journey as she grappled with fear, determination, and unexpected sparks of romance—especially with Prince Aidan, who I cannot wait to see more of!

This book took me through every emotion: I laughed, I gasped, I cried, and I held my breath more times than I can count. The supporting cast is equally engaging, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into their stories in the next installment. It truly feels like we’ve only just skimmed the surface of this incredible world.

On a personal note, I was lucky enough to snag a special signed hardcover from a local bookstore—complete with a themed bookmark and character artand it’s just as stunning as the story inside. The cover alone is a masterpiece!

What makes this debut even more amazing is knowing that the idea for the series came to Morgan in a fever dream. Talk about divine inspiration!

I can’t wait to continue Elana’s journey in The Reckoning of Gods. If you love epic fantasy with heart-pounding trials, slow-burn romance, and a heroine worth cheering for, you need this book on your shelf.

Keep writing, Morgan—your world has me hooked!

This was a fantastic debut book. It has a unique magic system that was thought out, and was refreshing. The world too, is unique in the fact you may gets vibes from some other fun/well loved book series, but its really only a glimmer. More of a vibe of this makes you think of X book but its sooo much different.

The pace that this book was written was good. It wasn't dry in the start. And the pace wasn't rushed but fast enough to keep you moving and not wanting to put the book down.
I enjoyed the sisterly banter between the MFC.

You do have a forced proximity, forbidden romance within this story . You also have friends that become enemies.

You do kind of get the root for the underdog vibe when you get started, as our MFC is chosen for the trials and she isn't equipped for them like whom would be the obvious choice. Which in the end shows us all her strength within her and helps her flesh out in to a wonderful character. Thats where you will think the book is predictable.. but its the details that will give you some surprises, or make you question which way it will go.

I gave this 4 stars because it is great book, but there are lil bits you get left wondering on. I don't know if the author left those things for book 2.. but prepare yourself for the emtional end and cliffhanger!

I can't wait for book 2!

Why? Why is there not more than 5-stars that I can give this book?! Also, when can I get book 2??

This was an amazing fantasy read! I absolutely cannot recommend this book any more profusely if I tried. I refuse to rehash the plot line in a review, so if you want to know what it’s about, head on over to the summary.

This book has a very well developed storyline, great characters with fabulous personalities, conflict, and danger both encountered and overcome. There are also wholesome, supportive families represented here and two sisters that love each other and want the best for the other, no matter how that might affect their own lives. Princesses with power who have decided to choose their own destinies while still finding room for friends, love, adventure, and personal growth. It’s so very rare to see a first time novelist with such a great story, but Morgan has delivered! It’s been a long time since I read a fantasy book this great. And the best part is that it was high on love and value, low on sex and lust. I read the ARC for this book and got so sad when I realized I was going to have to wait a while for the next book! Morgan Kielisch is definitely on my list of authors to watch and read anything they write!

ARC review!!!

To start, I could not put this book down, and I have it on every device so I could always have it with me. I also procrastinated my coursework to make sure I didn't have to put this book down.

Listed as Morgan's debut, you would think it was her 100th published book. A fantasy novel focusing on the second born daughter who is picked by the gods for the throne of her country. She now has to be proceed to the challenge (think Forth Wing) she has to succeed, and prepare to be queen with. no. training.

This book is refreshing, though there is immense world building, it is not suffocating. Morgan did a fantastic job of world building and character development without making you need to take a break to understand. Like I said, you would think she's published 100 books. It's also refreshing because there is no family drama. The first born sister didn't get jealous that her sister was chosen by the gods and not her, and didn't try to sabotage her sister. There was an unusual support system that I loved to see instead of the drama (though I do love familial drama.)

The banter between characters was to die for (I love banter.) The writing style *chefs kiss*, it was the perfect fantasy. PLEASE NOTE that this does end a cliffhanger but I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could not put this book down!

Elana and Aislinn's sister relationship is amazing, with the support and the back and forth between the two.
"I may get cranky when I'm hungry, but you, sis get downright violent"

I really enjoyed the fact that even though Elana was picked by the Gods and had to go through the gauntlet, she has a few weeks to be trained by her badass sister and her father rather being thrown straight into danger.

Elana is one of my favourite FMC I've read in a while, she's compassionate, smart and curious even if it might put her in danger...
"Elana, maybe we need to have a lesson on not touching strange objects that radiate evil"

*Spoilers ahead*

The dreams did make me think that Elana might be a seer but with the Queen of Orican...I doubt that theory now!

I cannot wait to find out what awoke when Elana let out her first blast of light power I'm so intrigued on how it will continue.

Aric - he's best friend material. But after the last few chapters he's suspicious. He could be either a spy for Calder OR a younger brother of Nadia who escaped the families fate?
He was overbearing even after Elana survived the Gods trial to gain her power! As one of her closest friends I would have expected him to have more faith in her and her new powers.

I'm really looking forward to the next book!

What an impressive and engaging debut fantasy! This story grabbed me from the very beginning and never let go.

Princess Elana has always seen herself as the spare sister, never meant to become queen, and no one is more shocked than her when the messenger of the Gods crowns her as the heir. Thrust into an epic quest to prove her worth, with little time for preparation, Elana must learn to trust herself, as well as the other Astrellian heirs.

The characters in this story had so much depth and grit, while the relationships between them felt layered and complex. All of the heirs fascinated me, and made me eager to learn more about them and their kingdoms, even the ones we're meant to dislike. I would absolutely love to read a backstory or spin-off for each one of them! The relationship between sisters Elana and Aislinn was beautifully written and heartwarming.

I also really enjoyed the setting of Astrellia, a diverse and lush landscape filled with fantastical creatures. The magical gifts bestowed by the Gods were varied and interesting, as were the Gods themselves. I look forward to learning more about them as the story continues.

I started out reading this book through Kindle Unlimited, but before I had even reached the end I purchased a copy of my own. I'm so excited for the next one in the series!

We start into this book with an unsuspecting FMC. Elana is the younger of two sisters, and she is marked as the spare to the heir. In her world, this means nothing else than being pretty and married off as soon as she's of age while her sister will get the crown. The catch? At the crowning ceremony, the Gods choose her, not her sister which marks the start of a challenging journey in search of her powers.

At the start of this journey, Elana is a very timid character, used to being nothing more than second best while her sister was drilled at an early age to fight and survive the trial that was surely to come. What I loved about this story, was that this doesn't change. Her character grows but she's not suddenly a fundamentally different character. She can't fight well - how should she, when all she learned throughout her childhood was to sit pretty and learn to shut her mouth? And still, in her softness lies her power.

When she enters a deadly trial alongside the other heirs of the different regions, it's instantly clear that she's not the strongest and does have a lot to learn still, even after her sister tried to train her as best as she could in the weeks before.

It's hard to believe that this is Morgan's debut novel and it is well thought through. I love how she managed to make Elana's arc very much believable. While she does step into her power and grows confident with time, she still is herself and never loses the qualities that make her, her.

Apart from the character arc, the plot itself was very well written and I found it easy to immerse myself into a world full of trials and foe-turned-friends.

"The Awakening of Gods" follows the story of Elana Sable, the second born princess of Adrithia. Despite being overshadowed by her sister, Aislinn, the crown princess, Elana's life takes a dramatic turn when she is unexpectedly chosen as the rightful heir by the messengers of God during the crowning ceremony. This decision sparks a rebellion and upsets the supposed peace and balance of the Astrellian Kingdom.

As part of the trials by the Gods, where the heirs are tested and granted the God's power, Elana must form new alliances and navigate the challenges to survive. Endowed with the rare or long-forgotten twin-God, Elana must now unite the kingdoms and confront the looming evil threatening Astrellian’s peace. Gifted with the shadow and light, she is the key to victory or the catalyst to destroy the continent’s fragile peace.

The book captivates with its rich story building to portray the trials set by the gods, the blossoming friendships, and the intricate power dynamics between kingdoms. I am eager to read the continuation of the Astrellian’s Heir by Morgan, such a good read!

The plot is very interesting
There is a variety of characters and though not everyone is very developed i guess i can expect more from them im next books
There are some plot twists along the story witch were really surprising.
The end of the book leaves the reader eager to read the next one.

I struggle to read some parts due to the pacing of the story, wich i found to be quite slow sometimes
I found the challenges not as exciting as i expected them to be.
I think that the piction of how much time has passed doens't translate accurately to the reader, since during the travel i felt like it was shorter than It was in reallity
The love relationship happens too fast. I think there are happening more important things in both Elana and Aidan life's too felt in love so deeply in barely two months.

In conclusion, its a good book and it entertained me. There are somethings could improve, but taking in account that its the first book of the author, i think she did a good job.

very fast, enjoyable YA read

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in one sitting. While this book takes components of popular themes, it puts them together in a way that’s wonderful and new.

The world building is superb without being so wordy that the reader loses interest. The descriptions really let you visual the settings the FMCs are in.

The pull between jealousy and family values is also so well written. It is very refreshing to see a close knit family in a romantasy. Finding out who is an antagonist versus protagonist is part of the mysterious adventure the plot takes the reader on, with possibility a bit of heartbreak.

With the right amount of twists and turns, readers will love this book. The spice level is low and this feels like a new adult read. A wonderful in-between with a great storyline. I fell in love with the characters and their interpersonal relationships.

I am not a mythology girly, but as I get more into reading, I thought I would go into it with an open mind and take a chance on it, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I really really enjoyed this book. All of the characters have incredible banter with each other. Both sisters are super supportive of each other in all aspects of their lives. I wish I had a sister like El or Ash. There was a slow burn romance between two of the heirs that fit in perfectly with the story. Normally I get frustrated with slow burns, but this one went so well with the storyline, so I loved it. In regard to spice, I’d give this a 1. There were a couple make out scenes and a closed door sex scene. I’m not a fan of one character and I despise a second. We don’t know much information regarding the second’s background, but if my suspicions are correct, I have a feeling he may have some connection to the first guy. I look forward to reading book 2.

This book was absolutely incredible! I would have never started reading it at 9pm on a Sunday if I’d had any idea how much I was going to love it. The last time I threw responsibility out the window and stayed up reading until 2:30am was when I was a teenager. Was I a zombie at work on Monday? Yes. Do I regret it? Absolutely not, I simply couldn’t go to sleep without finishing it.
This story had me giggling like a five-year-old more times than I can count. The plot, the characters, the way they support each other, the banter, everything was just perfect. No doubt this one’s going straight into my list of all-time favorite books.
I’m so grateful I got to meet you in person and have a signed copy. It makes this reading experience even more special 🥰

The Awakening of the Gods follows Elana, the spare, while her sister was shaped into the heir, training her whole life to claim her crown and powers. Elana is suddenly thrust into this world of magic and divine intrigue, unexpectedly being crowned the heir. I thought this was a good story with an engaging plot and plenty of potential. The main character’s lack of training was noticeable, but I also felt she could have shown more bravery. She came across as very innocent, which may have been intentional. The romance was slightly underwhelming, as the chemistry didn’t fully land for me. However, the direction the story took was interesting and kept me invested. Overall, it is a solid read with promise for future installments.

This is a great book! Loved reading it! Thank you author for the opportunity to have an ARC.

The plot was interesting and fast-paced (I read it in two days). I thought that the storyline ended at two thirds of the book, but it had a few more surprises. The romance was always quite sweet and would loved to see more of it.

I'm only not giving 5 stars just because I felt the FMC and MMC started to like each other faster than I was expecting. And also because I felt that there were too many names starting with the letter A and I would get them confused when they were all together (but I could be just a me thing).

Hope the author get the recognition she deserves.
