Her hair once was shining black, but now turning gray. Jesse has now passed middle age. Jesse relied on her physical beauty to get her past broken marriages and the pain of a poor and abused childhood. Jesse spent all the money she made as a runway model and finds herself isolated from family. She is dependant on a man she no longer, perhaps never, loves. The story is set around a beautiful fourth of July night in Laguna Beach. Jesse recalls her childhood, and the trip to Los Angeles with a coyote transporting her Mother and sister from San Salvador. She regrets her failure to return the kindness of her sister, the tenderness of her Mother. A literary short story about a woman's own failures.
