This was a bit better than book 1, though still lacks decent scientific explanation for such widespread and complete devastation of huge swaths of North America. There was a bit too much focus on Kane. Yes he was an opportunistic weasel, but at least it wrapped up decently. I'm warming a bit to old Earl; he is still crusty, but he is correct about a lot of what these guys need to do to survive. I'm disappointed in some of the military that are capitalizing monetarily on the tragedy. The Sheriff is a bit overwhelmed and I like Officer Carter a lot and hope he is not a red shirt. Wish I could warn them of the looming bad guy.

All it took was one spark to start a conflagration that is set to burn up the entire country. With their family divided by disaster, one part struggles to get home while the other just tries to hand on. Both are going to face long odds and tough challenges as they try to survive.
This is book two of the series. It does okay as a standalone, but will be much more enjoyable if read in order.
This is a post-apocalyptic disaster story featuring an experiment that got seriously out of control. The story is well written with a setup that could be part of tomorrow's headlines. That makes it both good as it is believable, but also bad in that it sometimes strikes a bit too close to home. Suspension of disbelief is actually pretty important at times. The characters are really well done, both the good and the bad. Our hero is really well done and quite resourceful which comes in handy as he has a lot to deal with. Overall, this was an excellent addition to the series and I am eager to see what happens next.

Peril abounds on the farm and off
With David's ankle slowing his and Jodi's way home, the farm comes under attack from a band of violent scavengers intent on taking over the farm. The pits formed by the explosions continue to expand, further slowing David and Jodi on their way home. After nearly being shipped east by the military, David and Jodi are unsure where to go next. Great characters, even the villains nd police and military with ill intent are well written and believable. Dialog, pacing and everything else are excellent. Easily as good as book 1!

This is a really good & enjoyable part to this new & exciting series. I do like the main characters in this story & find it interesting how they deal with the nightmare world that is evolving. Good ideas with good levels of action, barely any angst, which is a nice change. A good fun read, I can't wait to see where this storyline will go & do recommend.

As always an awesome book full of suspense. Underground explosions are endangering everyone. Even being rescued is not a safe choice. How will everyone survive and find shelter. Impossible to not enjoy this book. Ready for more.

Against the odds
Jody and her dad work their way toward home. They meet various people ,some goof some bad. Molehill at home the foods on the farm face their own problems. Looking forward to book three.
