There’s something wrong with Olmeda’s paranormals.
First, the fire mage can only produce ice, then one of the wolf shifters can’t shift back to human. What’s worse, it all seems centered around the Tea Cauldron, especially when an out-of-town witch suffers from the same magical issue shortly after stopping by.
Turns out, it’s not the first time this has happened in Olmeda, and all the leads point to an old local dark coven. Is a witch related to the past trying to get revenge on the city, or is there a new magical threat targeting those close to me?
Owning a witch shop might’ve started as my and grandma’s dream, but its become so much more than that. I might not have huge power at my disposal, but I have Ian, my allies, gumption, and plenty of affirmations to back me up.
Whoever is causing all this mayhem better get ready, because I’m not letting my friends or my town down, even if it costs me my shop!
Join Hope in her quest to have the best witch shop in the Urban Fantasy world of Good Bad Magic, featuring witches, shifters, demons, one sexy bounty hunter, and all kinds of magical creatures. Full of humor, mystery, banter, plenty of heart, and a slow-burn romance.
Isa Medina loves writing and reading Urban Fantasy books, playing MMORPGs, and scouring the Internet for pet pictures and beautiful art.
As a child, she was first introduced to the world of Fantasy through Dragonlance and she has never looked back. She also has a soft spot for Gothics and treasures all her old Victorian Holt paperbacks. If it has Fae, ghosts, vampires, demons, mythical creatures, or magic in it, she's all in.
Something is wrong with the paranormals in Olmeda. It begins with the fire mage producing ice instead of fire. Then one of the shifters can't shift out of his wolf form. Unfortunatly it appears like Hope's tea shop is involved, since everyone effected has visited the Tea Cauldron recently. When Hope starts to investigate, an old local coven who dealt in dark magic comes to mind. Is it possible one of their spells is in play here?
The sixth and last book about Hope, Ian and the others - I will miss all of them! The best thing about this book was that Hope and Ian worked together a lot to solve the problem; they haven't been doing that as much before. I also love how all of them have become one big family, and that we got a bonus epilouge about how they celebrated Christmas together - the perfect ending! If you enjoy a mix of urban fantasy and cozy crime you should try this series!
* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *
The lastest (and last? For a while?) Good Bad Magic book begins with a curse and ends with a Christmas celebration. Hope is doing a little better as is the shop but a visit from her customer and sometime employee Brimstone send chills down her spine as his fire magic is elementally changed to ice. What is going on and why is it spreading? Soon others are involved and ailing and Hopes cure suddenly isn’t any more. Big guns of Witcher’s and Magic arrive and set out to do what Hope couldn’t, but the results are worse than before. So with the help of her town mates and the rag tag group of people who look up to her and get on her every nerve she needs to solve the puzzle and save her friends. The best (and funniest) in the series so far and I am sad to see it end… but maybe it will be back. I certainly hope that it will be.
What a cool conclusion to this series! So many characters to fell in love with, and I did! Ms Medina excels at bringing a fun, engaging read with all the elements! I love how Ms Medina intertwines the mystery with the drama. Heck, magic going wonky is definitely dramatic and trying to find what caused it is definitely mysterious! Considering how well the author conceals it, a million questions spring to mind and plodding through with Hope makes me feel like a detective wannabe, really brilliant!
Hope has one dream, to own the tea shop in Olmeda but with the probation the council has imposed, and some residents who are less than welcome, she faces a daunting task. She's full of cool ideas, like organising a Christmas event, which has some less than friendly residents scoffing and at the same time scrambling to be a part of. Some hilarious banter ensues with these individuals. But, the thing is, she is not much of a power house witch, she's kind of mediocre, but what she lacks magical ability, she makes up with her smarts, which she utilises to the fullest getting to the bottom of a strange occurrence in Olmeda. She might come across as bungling and insecure but when it counts, she sure brings the goods! She even managed to contain Ms Bagley! Gotta love the "evil" Ms Bagley, the previous owner of the tea shop who dabbled in illicit dark magic, trying to undermine Hope, to belittle her prowess, all to no avail, Hope is just so genuine, so sweet, so kindhearted, she's even hellbent on rehabilitating Ms Bagley!
Delightful banter and comedic interludes throughout, I was giggling a lot, especially with Dru, heck Dru is the best! Her acerbic tongue spews belies her true nature. Oh she's plenty scathing but she's a great friend, supportive, helpful (Dru style!) she's not the harsh persona she presents. All the characters are a special breed, I love Shaun and Alex and Key is just delightful! Three characters make my heart burst with joy whenever they appear, Fluffy, the sweetest tiny fluff ball doggie, Rufus, the big tough but ultra protective doggie and tiny Kraken, the most delightful creature who lives in Hope's water pipes! See? Such cool characters! But wait! There's Ian! OMG is HE drool worthy! He's a Bounty hunter, tough, stoic, no nonsense kind of guy but with Hope, heck, he's putty! I adore him to smithereens, such a caring and romantic guy, ok, he's romantic with Hope but he'll go to any length to protect those he loves, even his grouchy brother Hutton, another, like Dru, who hides behind a facade.
The whole mystery of what was happening took on a scary turn, even 2 powerful witches couldn't solve it but guess what? Yep, Hope, out of sheer determination and a healthy dose of fear, comes to the rescue. With the most unexpected results for Hope, I dinkum did a fist pump in jubilation! And golly, what an awesome twist when the culprit is revealed! Soooo not expected! Cozy, warm, incredible fun, with a gorgeous HEA that will get anyone smiling! That's a promise!
“ As the official witch of Olmeda, it was my job to guide the local paranormal community” --In other words, it was her job to be Official Babysitter. and Placater of Evil.
It’s Christmas, and Hope wants to celebrate by starting with a treasure hunt, which surprises me, since I expected her to barrel hip-deep into all the tacky traditions. When Brimstone and Destruction (Jeremy) bangs on Olmeda’s Tea Shop, he blames Hope’s potions for turning his fire powers into ice, so I immediately googled the antonym for Brimstone and Destruction. Would you believe it is Joy and Peace? Ha ha! How perfect.
The surly, mixed bag of townsfolk need to be investigated again, because Brimstone is not the only one whose powers flipped, and Hope finally deduces that her shop is the one element in common. But every time she tries to question someone about the situation, they divert the topic to the Christmas event. Who cares about powers flipping out when there is money potentially to be made?
And yes, Hope is still glass-full: “ we’ll listen to one of my favorite affirmation books next.” [Hope says...] “Just leave me to rot in the rust bucket and be done with your torture.”
Can you read it as a standalone? ------Yes. Each of the stories is a complete arc. You miss out on character growth, but the humor can stand for itself.
I think I missed some of the series, but I had no trouble understanding what is going on. And I enjoyed the mix of mystery with quirky characters. It’s a clean, fun story.
Owning The Tea Cauldron is finally within Hope Avery’s grasp! With her probation period almost up and things finally settling into a regular rhythm, it’s just a matter of time until she can add ‘witchy shop owner’ to her resume.
That is until magicals start having their magic going topsy-turvy, upside-down, and the only common factor is her shop 😱
Hope, like the heroine she is, jumps in both feet first and, with her trusty Fluffy, Rufus and Ian by her side, works on solving the crisis in her own unique way. Even if it means closing down her shop altogether!
The good news is that there’s no better team than one led by the ever-optimistic Hope, and you just know she’s going to save the day. The bad news is that it’s never easy, and this time, it might come with a cost that’s too much to bear 😢
With this being the final book in the series, it was always going to be an amazing book but Isa does a brilliant job of keeping all the things I love about this series at the forefront while raising the stakes dramatically! And then, Isa delivers on that ending ten-fold 😍
There’s no doubt that Hope has many more adventures in her future, so while I’m 100% sad that this is the end, I’m very happy with the way it finished.
If only I could read it all for the first time again! 💗 If you’re yet to get on the ✨Good Bad Magic✨ fan train yet, what are you waiting for? Jump on board!
Upside Down Magic is the sixth book in the Good Bad Magic series and I just loved it! It's the holiday season and Hope is busy trying to plan a Christmas event for the town when several paranormals' magic starts going awry. Hope's unwavering optimism is on the line as those closest to her are affected, but she's determined to figure out what's going on.
One thing that I really like about this series is that Hope isn't the strongest witch around, but she's perfectly fine with that and doesn't let that stop her. Her optimism is truly endearing and something I think we can all aspire to. This book and the entire series really celebrates the underdog, which I appreciate. I was a little sad because the author's note says this is the end for now for Hope, and while I'm very happy with where Hope, Ian, and the rest of the strays are at the end of the story, I just love this series so much, I don't want it to end. This is a fun, feel good, cozy mystery and I highly recommend the entire series!
love love love another cute story in the Good Bad Magic world. Hope is the eternal optimist and won't let anything or anyone get her down. She will work through hauntings, magic mishaps and curses to make sure she can stay in Olmeda and make the tea shop hers forever. In Upside Down Magic, peoples magic starts to go wrong. Is Hopes Tea shop the reason? She is determined to find out and fix the problem. But when things go from bad to worse, she has to let the Witch Council know. She only hopes it they won't take the tea from from her.
A cute, happy and witty read. I read this in one night and couldn't put it down. A definite read!
OMG! This was another absolutely fun book in this series! Things are going well, and Hope is now planning a Christmas event for the paranormal businesses in Olmeda. But of course, some of the supernatural's magic goes haywire and it couldn't have been a worse time. Lillian, the council witch she asked for information from previously, has come to town with an interest in her made-up case. Shifters are shifting and can't change back, mages are switching elements and it appears to be coming from the Tea Cauldron. Can Hope solve this issue before she loses the shop and her dreams? I absolutely adore Hope! She is such a ray of sunshine on a gray, wintery day (like today!). She refuses to let anything get her down and puts everyone else ahead of herself. But even with her sunny personality, she is learning to be a little lenient on her morals - but Grandma would still approve. And Ian, stoic bounty hunter Ian, is definitely getting a sunnier disposition. I think he has definitely moved into the book boyfriend list! I love the way all the supernaturals come together, mostly all willingly! (Christmas event blackmail may be involved! Lenient morals!) Even Bagley can be convinced to give out some advice. And I do love the banter between Hope and Bagley. I'm rooting for her to make her see the error of her dark magic ways. This was a fitting ending for this series and I know the author says that at the end, but maybe someday (fingers crossed) there could be more books since there are still stories that could be told!
This was a great ending to Hope's journey, she has worked hard to prove that she is the right witch to run the tea shop and her troubles continue in this book. When Olmeda's magic residents are affected by something effecting their magic Hope tries to solve the problem but this one is bigger than she can manage on her own, but the help that comes may cause more trouble than it solves! I love Hope and Ian's relationship, his love and affection for her is plain to see, and she adores him right back. Also enjoying the relationships that are developing-romantic and professional.
I have loved this series since the very beginning and although I am sad to see it come to an end, the author does a fab job with Hope’s conclusion! We get to see some old friends as magic starts to go wrong and Hope is determined to get to the bottom of what is going on. It’s a fun and entertaining read full of mystery and intrigue, magic and many different supernatural beings that come together. Fantastic characters, exciting and captivating storyline and a finale worthy of this wonderful series.
Lots of tension, solutions going wrong, people flocking together to work strong magic, and Hope comes to the rescue with a brilliant idea. Read the story to find out how. The characters are bright, passionate, and believable. The plot is easily followed and the premise is finding out how to reverse the spell causing the magic users to have the wrong magic or none at all. The attempts at this were less than spectacular till Hope figured out why. I most definitely recommend this book and the entire series.
Things get out of hand when the local paranormals start having issues. Brimstone is making ice, Shane cant shift, and a visiting witch has the wrong magic. Hope tries to fix it but calls in the big guns to help. Nothing seems to be working until the pieces start to fall into place and its up to Hope to make it right. When she puts together a group of low level paranormals, things look up. And just in time for Christmas!
It's rare for me to stick through a series past 4 or more books, because I get bored easily and want to move on. This is not one of those books. I really enjoyed the characters and am sad to see it end. Hope is a lovable character who sticks to her tenets and beliefs, even when that makes life harder, and I love that. I also love a main character that mirrors my stubborn streak. I'm sad to see the characters go, but I'm excited to what comes next from Isa!
Love this magic mystery series, sorry that this is Hope’s last story for now but look forward to more in the future. So many relationships just starting have to see where they go. As usual Hope is right in the centre of what is happening in her town. I did not solve the mystery till the end. Great world building and characters, paranormals of all types, mystery and romance and a couple of adorable dogs what more could you want.
Always entertaining. I love a feel good story. The crowd we have been introduced to over the previous five books all show up for this one. I think Hope's Pollyanna attitude is rubbing off on them. This comes to a good, logical conclusion, allowing us to say good by to Hope and hello to whomever comes along next from this author. I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love this book, I love Hope's endless optimism and the fact all her friends help her out and rally round when needed. She has a problem when people in her shop start getting ill and she has to work out why it happened and who dunnit. As ever, she does solve the mystery, there is no deaths, but it moves her story forward and of course the delicious Ian is by her side to help her. She unites her community and everyone wants in on her christmas event too, which turns out beautifully too.
I was so happy once I got the ARC of 'Upside Down Magic' to my mail. I couldn't wait to read more about Hope, Ian, Dru and the rest of the crazy crew.
In this book Hope needs to figure out who and why cursed the paranormals in Olmeda and why their magic is not working as intended. It's super important because it seems like Hope is the main reason why all of this is happening.
Hope is a great character, but sometimes I rolled my eyes so much, when she saw all the things, events in the most black color. She is panicking a lot, even if she has a good plan and knows what to do. It makes her a dynamic person to read, but I think it's time for her to put her brain together and grow up a little bit. Still my favorite character is Dru, even if she is sometimes really childish about her ex. She knows what she wants and she tries to achieve it. She is a good friend and she is honest, what Hope needs a lot when she starts to panicking.
Writing style is light and I run through the book really quickly. Perfect for after Christmas break. Isa perfectly fill the time between Halloween and Christmas with her story. Normally, it's a time of the year when we are between holidays and we are counting from Halloween to Thanksgiving and from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Hope can't say her waiting time was boring, that's for sure.
It's book 6 in the series I can't say more about relationships between our characters, because spoilers. I want to know what kind of paranormal is Sonia. She is the biggest mystery for me. She is of course supportive character in Hope's story, but it's one of those nice, small gifts, which Isa gave us to keep us even more intrigued.
This us a very enjoyable series. I love the mix of paranormal characters, Hope and her friends are a lot of fun, and the storylines in each book kept my attention so that I finished the books in one sitting. I like all the series by Isa Medina and am looking forward to more of her books.
I love this series, where the underdogs are valued and exalted, where affirmations are a magic of their own, and where hope is alive and Hope herself rules by kindness. Read the series and you too will fall in love. Enjoy!!!
What a great end of this series of books. The main characters remained themselves, however positive or grumpy they were . A thumbs up for the underdogs, they matter. A fun mystery solved at the end with friends coming together in the small town. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.
What a great ending to such a cozy, cute series. I loved Hope and her chaotic life, trying to balance running a successful witch tea shop and stopping dark magic in her town.
You just feel so much when you read this story. Hope just makes you want to see the positive in things as she is too. Yes it is a story but you can take the good and bring it to life. More Good Bad Magic stories are needed!
I read the entire series in a week and it was absolutely lovely. I wish I had learned the tiny krakens story and more about Grandma. Overall it was like spending time with good friends. Totally enjoyed the series
Thank you Kindle Unlimited for suggesting this author. A naive witch of limited powers but a happy and positive dispostion makes for a charming heroine. Well written and only once did I guess who dunit.
That was such a blast. I like her self talk and happy thoughts and enduring spirit. I love an under powered main character who still always saves the day
I really enjoyed the story. It was a great ending to the series. It would be fun if there were more books to continue with these characters. It was fun to read.
A fun end to a fun series! I really enjoy the light-hearted tone of these books, as well as the great characters. I wish we had learned more about Tiny Kraken, though!
Super enjoyable paranormal rom-com. She's like a Nancy Drew x Sabrina (the 90s version). Fun light read. 4.5 stars but this outdated app only allows full stars.
