I grew up the privileged princess of a journalism royal family. Then my father bargained away my freedom to a monster.
Einar Rothkilde is a brute and a bully. He’s also the disgraced prince of a hidden underworld that shouldn’t exist. When my father threatens to expose Einar’s secrets, the lycan prince turns the tables, promising to ruin my family for good unless my father meets his demands. And Einar demands me. To my horror, my father agrees, locking me into a contract written entirely on Einar’s terms—and with no expiration date.
Now I’m trapped on Einar’s sprawling estate where the walls whisper and Einar rules with an iron fist. My days are spent plotting escape and evading my captor, while my nights are haunted by silver eyes and a body that draws me in despite my resistance. As my defenses crumble, Einar shows me how sweet captivity can be.
Still, I’m a reporter to my core, raised to uncover the truth no matter how shocking or painful. And the facts are a human can’t love a lycan, and a pretty cage is still a prison.
But as I dig deeper into Einar’s secrets, I start to question everything I thought I knew. The lines between captor and protector blur, and I must decide if I’m willing to regain my freedom only to lose my heart.
Amy Pennza is a USA Today Bestselling Author of steamy fantasy romance. After becoming a lawyer because everyone insisted writing wasn’t a “real job,” she stubbornly wrote anyway—and is delighted to have proved them wrong. She’s grateful to spend her days crafting dirty, swoony books about magic, swords, and unforgettable characters. She lives in the Great Lakes region with her husband and five children.
After reading the first book, I was afraid that anything else in this series might be an exercise in masochism. While this one wasn’t great, it was a marked improvement from the first. (I suppose that that’s not saying much, given that it could hardly get worse.)
Anyway, there were several things that I did appreciate about this book. One, Harper actually got to have a personality as compared to Abby in the first one. I also really liked the misfit mystical creatures that lived in the maze and how they got along with Harper. The friendship between all these characters was cute and I appreciated having that and not just the romance between Harper and Einar.
I still wasn’t a fan of how quickly the romance developed. It was rushed and felt very awkward, especially with the whole centaurs scene. I needed more of a transition period in the enemies to lovers storyline.
As usual, Amy Pennza has written a book that will have you smiling, cringing, laughing, swooning and gripping the edge of your seat as she takes you on the wild ride that is Einar and Harper’s story. It definitely has a Beauty and the Beast kind of vibe but the inhabitants of Draithmere are way more interesting than candlesticks come to life! Harper comes to be a “guest” at Draithmere as a result of her father’s misstep with Einar and is anything but a willing participant in the contract between her father and Einar. But as time passes her curiosity and strength of will see her finding a path to making friends with the many inhabitants of the estate and becoming integral to Einar’s existence. Harper’s developing relationship with Einar can best be described as bumpy. The chemistry between these two is never in doubt and their heat is blistering when they finally succumb to their feelings for each other. The supporting characters in this story are wonderful and perfect in their imperfections. Their loyalty to Einar and Harper is the light that sees Einar and Harper through a very dark and dangerous time. Ultimately this is a story of chosen family, love, loyalty, forgiveness and new beginnings. I am really anxious to see is any of my favourites from this book will be given the chance to appear in subsequent stories. There's a lot of questionable morality going on here. Starting with the dad who sets the whole story in motion with his obsession with being a famous journalist. The whole mess is his fault from beginning to end. Then there's the arrogant prince who treats other people like property. I felt that the dad should have had more misery visited upon him for how badly he treated his daughter and I'm not totally sure the MMC groveled enough.
Otherwise, I think the story is solid, especially the part where the MFC figures out that reporting is not some elite occupation. People deserve privacy,
“Don’t you want her back at school, learning how to delve into people’s private lives without shame or remorse?”
It's crazy complicated - the tension between informing the public about hurtful things and people each getting to have their own secrets.
I really enjoyed the island of misfit toys trope. I struggled a bit with the common trope of him being 150 years old and her being 22. He's lived a lot of decades and still is an idiot about how he treats her. For example, not educating her about the maze but then calling her a fool for getting into trouble with the banshee and the centaurs. When things go wrong, who is the six times bigger fool?
If you've dabbled in Amy Pennza’s work, then you already know she has a knack for mixing fantasy and steamy romance. But with her “The Royal Lycans” series, she’s gone back to basics—none of that why-choose or MMF dynamics this time. Prisoner of the Lycan Prince (book #2 in the series) is a good ol' fashioned MF romance, but don't be fooled—it's still deliciously complicated.
We dive into the world of Einar Rothkilde, Lycan Prince and brother to the King, and Harper Ward, a human journalist who finds herself entangled in a mess thanks to her father’s antics. Classic tropes? You bet. We’ve got enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, and even a dash of Beauty and the Beast for that extra flair. But at its heart, this is a story about acceptance and how even the most rejected souls can find a place to belong in the right company.
The supporting cast? Absolute gold. The supernatural beings in the maze deserve their own spin-offs, trust me. And yes, there’s plenty of heat—this is Amy Pennza after all—but the plot will keep you hooked just as much as the sexy time.
If you’re craving a fun, action-packed, and slightly naughty escape into a magical world, Prisoner of the Lycan Prince is definitely worth your time. Highly recommend!
I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. This definitely gave me some Beauty and the Beast vibes- and as one of my favorite fairytales, I couldn't have been happier with the setting.
I loved both Harper and Einer. She was an intelligent heroine and didn't scare easily. I liked the dynamic between her and Einer. Though I couldn't fault her for being angry at being forced a prisoner- her freedom signed away by her father after he tried to blackmail Einer, who instead threatened to expose all the fabrications and lies her father had written in his career. She chose to sign her away indefinitely rather than have his misdeeds exposed. Einer was also intelligent and levelheaded. I liked the way their relationship developed and grew. I also liked the supporting characters and was quickly completely hooked to the story.
I may be more used to Amy Pennza's MMF romances and love them best, but this was just as great a read. 5 stars.
Book 2 in the Royal Lycans book was fantastic! This book focuses on Cyrus’s brother Einar, who had become a rogue wolf who lives at Draithmere, and Harper who is the daughter of a journalist who was caught falsifying truths. When her father catches Einar shifting into a wolf and killing another one, he tries to blackmail Einar, but Einar hasn’t lived for as long as he has without knowing a thing or two and takes Harper as a hostage to make sure her father deletes all the evidence.
While Harper is at Draithmere, she originally tries to escape but realizes that its impossible. But she does realize that there is more going on there than she thought and starts seeing Einar in a different light.
Einar realizes that she just might be his fated mate, but a foe takes her away for vengeance and Einar has to figure out a way to control his rogue wolf and save her.
I loved this story and cant wait to see what else is in store for this series.
A very different shifter novel and take on fated mates healing it all . Daughter of a reporter , called home from school a father who has had his time in the newspaper at the top , see a Lycan start to change and gets pictures plus fast forward see the same wolf fight to the death with another pack . Tries to blackmail the Lycan prince and he takes his daughter as collateral to get back all the pictures and video . Lots of unresolved romance and supernatural creatures that seek refuge at the prince house . We get the usual all out war , sex scence thrown in to keep building suspense - then like will he leave or not to save the girl . Best ending whole family reunited king , prince family after 90 yrs apart . But felt parts here and there drawn out hence 3 * but was good
Harper is taken as security that her father will hand over all the film of Einar. Harper was angry thather father had ordered her to come home but even more shocked at the state of him and her home. Confronting him in his office she finds the film he shows her impossible to believe as it shows a man becoming a wolf. Then the door is forced open and two men enter one she recognises from the film. He forces the father to sign acontract to hand all copies of the film over and then takes Harper with him as security that her father obeys.

Prisoner of the Lycan Prince is the second book in the Royal Lycans series but can easily be read as a standalone. Einar is fighting a losing battle against his attraction to his hostage Harper, whom he imprisons to force her father to give up his evidence of the supernatural world. Harper for her part, quickly discovers there is so much more to Einar and his estate and is torn about her newly developing feelings for the lycan prince. This is an entertaining quick read with good chemistry and interesting characters.

All Kinds Of Magic! Once Harper has been taken to Draithmere, the home of Einar, she meets with a kaleidoscope of supernaturals, each with his or her specialty, but all of them misfits of their own community. As is Einar himself. The story is full of humor, special moments en some thrilling action. Steamy love scenes. And friends that have your back when it is needed. At the end the book comes together with the first in this series, but is definitely readable as a standalone. Highly recommended.

A fun story with some good spice! Like the Beauty and the Beast scenario to the story; Harper’s father has discovered something he shouldn’t have, so Harper is taken as collateral by the lycan prince, Einar. With Einar, Harper discovers a lot of interesting things and meets some rather interesting individuals, and begins developing a deeper connection with Einar. Love shifters! Great to have some bits of danger as well, and of course, love the connection between Einar and Harper! Enjoyed the whole story!
"Every moment of passion I’d shared with Harper was a lie."
I have been waiting forever, ever since I read The Lycan King's Captive, for Amy to write another book in the series. I adored Cyrus and found the Lycans very intriguing. So I was thrilled when she announced Prisoner of the Lycan Prince.
While I didn't love Einar as much as Cyrus and the chemistry between Einar and Harper wasn't as intense as Cyrus and Abby, this book did have a more complete story and ending.
The best part of this book were all the fantastic characters that populated the story, especially Arlo. We also got to see lots more of this incredible world Amy has created. I could read a dozen more stories in this fascinating world and I hope we get more soon.
Einar is focused on protecting his secrets, and by extension, the supernatural world - whatever mean necessary. It’s these heavy handed measures that have him kidnapping Harper to prevent her journalist father’s story from coming out. I loved this story - I felt Harper and Einar could be real people, plus Arlo and the rest of the crew were amazing and intriguing. The conclusion was incredibly exciting, while the epilogue was perfect and sweet. A wonderfully fantastic read.
This was a slow burn second book. Einar was a prince. His older brother, Cyrus was the King of the lycans. He was stuck at his residence, Draithmere. He was put here as punishment from a killing a person. He was a rogue lycan, unable to control his beast. This story has lots of twists and turns, finding out he was video taped, but Harper on his map. College student Harper knew her father would do anything for a great story, but never like this. Einar and Harper eventually find common ground, and a HEA.
Oh man, I loved Prisoner of the Lycan Prince! totally ate it up! It had everything I want in a book. I loved the creatures from the maze and the bit of suspense. Our FMC, Harper, is a great character. Einar is so hot and whew, the spice is right 🥵 I hope we can have an Arlo book in the future!

Beauty and the Beast vibes with this one. Einar, the Lycan prince, with secrets all around while Harper, an inquisitive human, stuck on his estate against her will. The more questions she asks, the more she learns of Einar not being the cold and heartless man she believes him to be. Great story and characters. Fingers crossed that Arlo will be getting his own story in the future.

When Harper's father causes problems, Harper is taken as hostage. I like how the maze's inhabitants helped Einar and Harper realize their love and that they are fated mates. It was great how they all band together to save Harper and Arlo. I especially liked the message of that you don't have to be perfect to be accepted.
This was a great concept and executed fantastically. Loved the story line of this novel. Loved everything about Prince Einar. Loved that he helped all supernatural's that could not survive in their own packs. And these supernatural's were like a family to him. When I first started reading, I was going to give up after a couple of pages, as it was not feeling like a novel I would read, normally, but I always give a book at least the first chapter to find out if it is for me. I am so glad that I gave this book that long, as I feel that I would have missed out on such a great read. I look forward to reading more from Amy Pennza.

Magic and fairytale creatures abound in the second book in the Royal Lycan series. I love that Amy added more magical elements and lore surrounding the world in this book. In addition Harper and Einer’s story made me laugh and cry in turns. I loved the broken prince/captive maiden troupe in this book and the longing between the MCs even while they’re driving each other crazy. This is another captivating book from one of my favorite authors
This was a great read. It had everything required to make it fun, sweet, sexy, steamy and full of action. I liked the way Harper barrels into Einar’s life and nothing is the same again. Both of them were stubborn, cute, lonely and wanting change in their life. I liked the sparky dialogue and teasing scenes, however there was a serious undertone that led to some super suspenseful scenes. I enjoyed reading this book from start to finish.
Anther great book. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was highly intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. Einar’s and Harper their connection was so strong and the romance was spicy hot. This romance was forbidden with sexual tension and the chemistry between them sensations. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones
The idea of the maze was great and the various beings who lived there were diverse. The first half of the story was great with wonder, threat and action. Not as predictable as others in the genre. Riverden's character could have been developed more. One question: how did Harper's father get the initial footage if the magic prevented anyone getting into Draithmere and Einar couldn't get out?
I really wanted to get into this book but it felt disjointed and hurried. In fact, the character development was the weakest part. The voice and personality of the Lucan prince did such a drastic shift from formal and stoic , even old-fashioned, to informal and modern that he felt like two different characters entirely. I like beauty and the beast tropes but this one is way too fractured and therefore, sloppy. It’s unfortunate.
Amy Pennza is such a talented author. She immediately pulls you into the story. This one was no exception. Einar is a lycan prince who has taken Harper captive to keep his secrets safe. Harper and Einar’s attraction unfolds and secrets start to emerge. I love the maze and the other characters that live there. I read this story in one day! It was so great!
Excellent shifter romance and excellent continuation of "The Lycan King's Captive". Lots of action, an abduction, a lycan prince reluctant to expose the supernatural world and their secrets to his mate and groveling after realizing the truth. 4.5 🌟.

I loved this and could not put down. This is the second book and it deals with an unlikely couple. This was so full of passion twist and turns, danger , mystery, it kept me on my toes. Amy has done again and I can’t wait what else in the future she will have in store us.

This isn’t a bias review. I love Amy Pennza, I love shifter books and PNR, so this is a surprise that I really enjoyed this book. There is just something about the way she writes the characters I love and how she gets me so addicted to her story simply wonderful.

Prisoner of the Lucas Prince by Amy Pennza was a delightful surprise. My expectations were so far from reality. Einar and Harper's story is one filled with fantasy and vivid imagination. It's easy to picture each creature inhabiting Einar's maze. You won't want to miss this magical trip through Einar and Harper's madcap love story.
The second book focused a bit more on the story and worldbuilding than the first, which I really appreciate, but in the end, it was more or less butchered by the insta-love (there is little to no development between pure hatred and love between the main characters) and rushed ending. Once again, I think 100 pages extra would do this book good to kind of tie the story more together.
I sincerely hope Arlo gets his own book though, he was my favourite character ♥
