Royals & Rebels #2

Princess on the Run

Rate this book
Princess Louisa of Aachen-Düren knows that her brother isn’t dead. She knows it deep in her heart, no matter what the newspapers say—and she’s going to prove it. But when Nik isn’t where he should be, Isa has no choice but to go out and search for him. How hard could it be to travel from Oxford to Dover… on her own… with no money and no means of transportation because her purse and horse have both been stolen? She’s never been on her own, but she’s not going to let these obstacles stop her. When she’s offered a ride by a handsome nobleman, she makes up a fake name, certain her bodyguard will be sending men to find her.
Samuel, Lord Ranleigh, is off on his very last adventure before settling down and becoming respectable. He briefly stops in Oxford and discovers a clueless, beautiful foreign young woman trying to wheedle her way onto the mail coach. This might be the opportunity he needs to prove to his mother and the world he’s a responsible man. Ranleigh has no idea what he’s getting himself into when he offers the girl a ride.
Picking up strangers and stray animals is the least of his worries when men begin to follow them, trying to kidnap Isa. But when bullets begin to fly, he knows he must do everything within his power to protect this beautiful, if not entirely honest, young woman in his care.
This book is book 2 in a three book mystery. Each book has its own happily-ever-after, but the mystery is spread over all three books of the series.

Princess Louisa believes her brother isn't dead. Samuel doesn't know that Louisa is a princess.
This book ends on a cliffhanger. I don't like this fact.

A fun, entertaining read, This is a series that it best read in order as there cliff hangers at the end of the books. I really liked the pampered, spoilt Isa who matured throughout the book, I also really liked Sam who certainly had his hands full. I liked that the pair became friends & then realised that they’d fallen in love. A well written delightful book
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Princess Louisa (Isa) doesn't believe her brother is dead. Running away from her chaperone and protector, she soon loses her horse and her money. Samuel, the Marquess of Ranleigh, rescues Isa, but she hides her identity. On the journey to find her brother, she gains friends, friends she's never had before, except for her brother. It's not long after Isa's life is threatened. Is she wanted dead or alive? Can a Marquess marry a princess? What about the princess's imposter? Where is her brother? Kisses only. This a cliff hanger and the next book is not available in ebook. I found an expensive soft print online.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.

What happens when a royal Princess is put into the real world without help? Chaos , of course! Add a rogue bent on changing himself and you have a thrill ride mixed with intrigue, kisses, attempted murder and budding romances everywhere. There is a cliff hanger and #3 can’t come soon enough. I loved how the author showed the Princess’s inability to function and how the rogue puts her in her place. To see them both grow in the price was absolutely grand! I received the ARC copy for free and these are my own opinions

This is book two in a fun series. I received an ARC from the publisher, and after reading In Lieu of a Princess, I was excited to read the next one. The first book is told primarily from the POV of the imposter princess Louisa. All we know in that book is that the actual Princess Louisa ran away from her boarding school when she was told that her brother had died in a shipwreck headed back to their home country. Louisa “Isa” does not believe this for a moment and goes to find her brother. She knows she will be told she is crazy for not believing he is dead, as has been reported in the newspapers, so she leaves alone without telling anyone where she is going.

After being tricked and losing most of her money and her horse, Isa attempts to catch a mail carrier to get to Dover, but she doesn’t have enough money. Enter Sam, the Marquess of Ranleigh. Witnessing a woman who is clearly in distress, he jumps to the rescue and agrees to take her to Dover, even though he was headed in the opposite direction. Because he can sense she is a member of the gentry, even though she will only tell him her name is Isa Gunter, he worries about accompanying her without a chaperone. Luckily, they meet Mrs. Brompton, who is also on her way to Dover and she agrees to act in that capacity.

The journey to Dover (and Margate) takes Isa on a journey to self-growth. She begins the story as an impetuous, spoiled princess with callous disregard for servants and an air of entitlement. Because she will not/cannot tell anyone she is a princess, she is not treated as one. As a result, she is forced to act like a regular well-bred young woman, which is a challenge because she has never been instructed on how to do so. To be honest, she was told how but ignored all of those lessons because they didn’t interest her at the time. She learns to appreciate the service of others and to thank them for it, to consider the feelings of others, and as a result, she makes friends—the first true friends she has ever had.

Sam’s journey is not quite so impactful, although he does have his own issues. His father was an irresponsible gambler, and Sam hates being compared to him. He is left with an estate in need of funds due to his father’s actions and has sworn not to be like him in any way. He also believes love is an illusion and he enjoys his bachelorhood. Naturally, he falls in love with Isa. He also learns that he needn’t swear off gambling altogether, as long as he acts with moderation.

Along the way to Dover, they discover there are men after Isa, but nobody really knows why. They believe the men have been sent to retrieve her and bring her back to school, but when someone shoots at her and then others start appearing who are trying to kill her, things become much more serious. Once they have reached their destination, Sam discovers Isa is Princess Louisa of Aachen-Duren, and he is furious with her for lying to him. They discover there is another Louisa impersonating the princess and determine they must get back to London to set things straight, while still striving to avoid those looking to assassinate Isa.

One of my favorite things about this book was comparing it to In Lieu of Princess. Readers who read book one in this series will recall that Herr Mueller, Louisa’s bodyguard, has men all over England searching for her, not only to keep her safe but also to return her where she belongs. We also know that there were several attempts on the life of the counterfeit Princess Louisa. And we know many of the characteristics the fake princess had to learn to be able to accurately portray the real princess. Now, we see those traits in action, no acting necessary. Of course, the descriptors for the real princess in book one were from the POV of people who knew her so they were influenced by the perceptions of those people. In this book, we learn about the real Louisa and we can see that although the descriptions were correct, there is really so much more to her.

This is a clean story about two people who become friends and, through a series of challenges, realize they have fallen in love. I really enjoyed it and cannot wait to read book three.

Book 2 in this series Royals and Rebels didn't disappoint. This series probably should be read in order as each book contains part of the story. Just so you are not surprised each book so far has ended with a cliff hanger and actually the same cliff hanger but from a slightly different perspective. The first story was about a look alike temporary replacement for a missing princess. This second story is actually the story of the runaway missing princess.

Princess Louisa of Aachen-Düren is quite headstrong and has trouble making friends. She loves to ride her horse, hunt and shoot. Being sent away to an all girl finishing school has her trying to make friends. When one of the girls deliberately gives her a newspaper article telling of the death of Isa's brother Nik, she doesn't believe it is true. She runs away from the school to set out and find her brother but she has no skills to live in the real world by herself. After her horse and money are stolen she is offered a ride to Dover by a handsome nobleman who also takes along a retiring maid to act as her companion. Isa makes the decision to hide her true identity from both Lord Ranleigh and Mrs Brompton knowing that her guard will probably be sending someone to find her.

Samuel, Lord Ranleigh, has decided to take his last adventure before settling down to be part of Parliament and take on a wife. He doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps so needs to change the way he has been acting. On his way to accomplish his last dare, he finds a young woman trying to book passage on the mail coach. He can see she has no idea how to take care of herself and steps in to offer his help. This sets him off in a totally different direction and before long, there are dangerous men following them. They seem to want to kidnap or kill Isa. When she refuses to tell him the truth of who she is and why they are after her, he can do nothing but continue to protect her while trying to find her missing brother.

This is an adventure filled story with wonderful characters. They mystery of what happened to Nik is yet to be solved and it seems like their uncle may have something to do with it. I am really hoping that the uncle is not involved because I really got to like him in the prequel story.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

This is the 2nd of 3 installments of the Royals and Rebels Series by Ms. Meredith Bond. A delightful story of Lord Samuel Ranleigh and Princess Louisa of Aachen-Duren and their complicated efforts to find her missing brother Prince Nickolas. Nic is not only missing and presumed dead, but someone clearly tried to kill him! And to make matters worse, someone has made attempts on Louisa!
Ms. Bond has once again created interesting, complex and likeable characters in a historical setting. The dialog is well written and follows the time period. You find yourself rooting for the characters to make the correct choices and avoid the men hunting them. The key characters work to understand their flaws and try to improve. Samuel is trying to be better than his father who managed to gamble most of his money away while embarrassing the family! Louisa has never been concerned about others as she is the princess. Now she is learning to be grateful for the help of others as she hunts her brother. Insecurity and concerns on improving character seem to be universal concepts. Ms. Bond has skillfully created a story that blends likeable characters, a strong plot and the power of friends and family to make a success of life.
This is a clean romance with wonderful characters. I highly recommend this story. But a warning – at the end of the book we do meet up with Lucinda who is impersonating the princess but do not find Nic and still do not know who is making attempts on the royals!

This is Book 2 of The Royals & Rebels series. I was hooked on this series from the first book, and this latest installment also did not disappoint. Princess Louisa has never been on her own. But she has no choice, because she knows in her heart that her brother Nik is not dead and she sets out to find him and bring him home. However, luck doesn't seem to be on her side when all her money and her transportation get stolen. Samuel, Lord Ranleigh is on his last adventure before settling down from his roguish ways. On his journey he encounters Louisa and offers her assistance and she accepts but she keeps her real identity a secret. As they travel together in search of Nik, they have some adventures and excitement of their own, as well as danger and suspense that kept me turning the pages, anxious to see what happens next. Through the intrigue and drama, a sweet love begins to blossom between them.
This was well-written story that kept me captivated till the end. It is best to read the series in order, as the books end with a cliffhanger. Although the cliffhanger here ends at the same point as the last, only from a different viewpoint. A cleverly crafted story that I highly enjoyed!

This is so good, but I hate cliffhangers! In the first book we followed Lucinda’s experience as she was conjoled into pretending to be the missing Princess Louisa. This book tells us what was going on with Princess Louisa while she was considered missing. She meets Sam, the Marquess of Ranleigh, who offers her a ride to her desired destination. Mr. Thomas Davies is their driver and they pick up Mrs. Margaret Brompton on the way to act as chaperone. The four of them proceed to have an exciting journey full of close calls and mishaps. You will find gunshots, abduction attempts, physical altercations, a kamikaze cat and so much more. There is never a dull moment, and although romantic interests develop, they have been formed on lies and withheld information. Emotions run high in this fast-paced tale, and its ending lines up with that of the previous book. I anxiously await the next book in the series.

Princess Louisa runs away from boarding school to find her brother, certain that reports of his drowning death are mistaken. She soon realizes she's utterly unequipped to make her way in the world unassisted—she doesn't even know how money works. Fortunately, Lord Ranleigh, a handsome stranger, comes to her aid. He takes her toward her seaside destination, even hiring a lady's maid to accompany them. Isa doesn't dare reveal her true identity, nor why she's being pursued by the men hired to find her. But she's truly shocked when she discovers that someone is trying to kill her. Will she lose Raleigh's trust when he learns the truth?

This second installment in the Royals & Rebels series is a fun, light-hearted adventure romance. While the romance is resolved in this book, the mystery is not. The books in the series are best read in order.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

In the first book in this series, we found out the Princess Louisa has run away and Lucinda, who looks like her, is filling in. Isa does not believe her brother is dead and is off to find him. Along the way she meets Sam, Marquess of Ranleigh, Mrs. Margaret Brompton, and Thomas Davies, Sam’s coachman. The four of them head for Margate to find her brother. Their journey is definitely exciting. There are villains chasing Isa, attempted kidnapping, attempted murder, fights, and what could be called a guard cat. There are secrets, mostly Isa’s, mystery about the men chasing them, and a budding romance that may need some honesty. This is a fast-paced story that ends just where the first story did. This time Isa isn’t the only one hoping to stop the Investiture. Some runs in behind her yelling “Wait!”
Who could that be. I look forward to the next story, where will find out.

This is the second book in a three-book series. As a rule, I don’t like cliff hangers, but it is a good book and I look forward to finding out what happens in the end. While at school Isa learns her brother died at sea on his way home. She runs away from school to find her brother as in her heart she knows he isn’t dead. She runs into a snag at the very beginning but meets Sam, the Marquess of Ranleigh who will not leave her in the lurch. Along with Sam, they meet Mrs. Margaret Brompton who serves as her chaperone. Between Isa, Sam, Mrs. Brompton, and Sam’s coachman Mr. Davies, they seek to find Nik her brother but meet with all kinds of problems. There are those out to protect her, those to kill her but the problem is who is who. There is plenty of action with attempted kidnapping, murder, fights, and then there is Luna, the protector cat.

Princess on the run is the second book of this series's, by Meredith Bond

This story follows Princess Louisa of Aachen-Düren Isato who is know as Isa to those that know her.
The newspapers have reported that her brother has died ier brother, when  his ship sank , but Isa does not believe this is the case . She knows he has disappeared for some reason. Being impulsive she embarks on the journey aloneto find him. However, being a princess she is not very streetwise.and soon fines herself with no money and no horse.
This is where Lord Ranleigh happenes upon the princess, being a gentleman he offers to help her. The princess gives him a false name, which he knows is a lie.
We travel through the ups and downs of their journey.

I must say I can't wait for the next one that finishes the series.

All I can say is that you have to read the book! My gosh, never have I had so much fun reading the number of challenges that Isa, Sam and Mrs. Brompton has found themselves to be in. The excitement during these dire moments was fantastic. I believe that it made reading the book go even faster. I enjoyed all the fun with the characters, mainly with Isa. Isra’s character may be written in as a princess, but she certainly didn’t act as one. The mystery that Sam and Isa chased and ran from was very entertaining. These moments were a page turner indeed. I often found moments of the story were realistic and informative. The romance part was sweet and pure. I liked the fact that the writer kept this part clean allowing the readers to enjoy all what the book offered.

This is the second book in "The Royals & Rebels Series". I also read the first and plan to read the third.

Princess Louisa has been informed that her brother has died at sea. She does not believe the news stories and goes on a hunt for him. While searching for her brother, she disguises herself so people who are helping her do not know her true identity. This book has adventure, love, a small amount of mystery and excitement. I enjoyed it very much. If you like historical romance or romance in general, you will enjoy this book.

There is a cliffhanger to the third book, but you do not need to read the first book to get into this one.

Thank you to Meredith Bond, NetGalley and WOLF Publishing for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Isa is on the run and on the hunt to find her brother. A brother that the world believes is dead, however Isa does not and she will find a way to prove it. In her pursuit of the truth she encounters Sam, Lord Ranleigh and soon he finds himself embroiled in her quest to seek out the truth, only to discover murder and mayhem is not far behind. I enjoyed reading Isa and Sam's story which runs parallel to Lou's own story, it was a fascinating read to see what she had been.up to whilst Lou was convincing everyone that she was a Princess and winning them over. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This is a story of Isa, a princess hiding her true identity; a marquees, Sam, turning over a new leaf; and a recently retired lady’s maid traveling together in a coach for hundreds of miles to find Isa’s brother, Nik. They encounter major obstacles, including murderers, weather, and a helpful cat!

I am frustrated that Isa wouldn’t reveal her true identity and put her traveling companions in danger until finally she had no choice. I didn’t realize the story ends mid dramatic scene! You must read the next book for the storyline conclusion.

I knew Isa was spoiled from the last book, but she is also reckless racing out to find her brother and ends up in one bad situation after another. She was lucky Sam came along, rescued her, and agreed to take on her quest along with a spunky older woman who agrees to be her chaperon. They end up being chased and having to defend themselves several times. I loved the cat who adopted Isa and fought off a man who was trying to kidnap her. Isa is humbled in the book by her circumstances and ends up being a much better person. There is an open ending, but that just makes me want to read the next book in the series.

This was a fun cross genre read! It’s one part historical romance and one part adventure. When a princess goes looking for her lost brother she enlists the help of Marquess Sam. This was a great holiday read with a strong female lead and likeable side characters. The romance kind of takes a backseat but the journey itself is enjoyable. Just enough excitement to keep you reading but more swooning romance scenes would have made it better.
Book ends on a cliffhanger so be warned! I’m eager to read the next book.

Exciting Adventure!
In this part of the story we read about Princess Isa who is on the run because her life is in danger.
The very gallant and extremely helpful Samuel, Lord Ranleigh, decides to help her and soon he finds himself falling in love.
Interesting characters and an exciting adventure make this an entertaining story (which ends in a cliffhanger - this is not my favourite type of ending, but the story itself is good).

This is the second book in the sweet Royal Rebels series. I just loved book one and it's shaping up to be one of those book series that just gets better and better.

The storyline focuses on the real Princess and her journey to finding her brother. There is a lot more danger and excitement in this book because not only is she evading her bodyguards there is also someone else out to get her. It ends on a cliffhanger with a 'Oh my word' moment.

I can't wait to read the next book. Its the perfect, clean escape that keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next

Sam and Isa
This is a fairly long and complex story that is a cliffhanger but it is a very well written piece. I love the mix of characters. It is a love story but so much more. There is action, danger, and suspense with some unexpected twists just to keep the reader on their toes. I cannot wait to read the next book to see how everything ends. Lou finds a new purpose!

It's your job interview, but when you walk into the office in which you hope to be offered a teaching job, you are mistaken for a run away student. Apparently, you look exactly like the princess, except your eye color! Now instead of being asked to teach, you're being ask to pretend to be a princess, something that you're pretty sure could land you in prison...or worse!

The second in the series. This book follows the adventures of the missing princess. I loved the relationships (not just the romantic one) as well as the intrigue.

Each book in this series follows a different set of characters. The last book appears to bring them all together at a pivotal moment. I don’t normally enjoy cliffhangers but I am enjoying this unique way to tie books together.

Another cliffhanger that has me impatiently waiting for the next one in the series! This was a wonderful read but it did have a few spots where it lagged. Still, it is worth the read. Action packed adventure trip, murder attempts, mystery learning how the world works and falling in love. A fast paced packed novel that was so very hard to put this down. The only draw back is that while the romance is sorted the mystery is not and this book finishes on a cliff hanger which i'm not keen on. Horrible

Isa is a terrible person and that is the greatest thing making this a horrible person. She improves a very small amount, I still want to strangle her at the very unsatisfying ending. My best recommendation is to seek out another series. While the first book left one hopeful, this one leaves one enraged.

I was curious as to how Isa was going to be portrayed as in previous book, they didn't paint her in a good light. This was quite a slow burn and at some points it felt it dragged on. Glad Isa's character grew from a bratty princess with the help from Sam but I'm not sure if it was enough for me to cheer for her/them.

She is certain that the obituary is wrong. She would know if her brother was dead. So of course she runs away to find him. But being a princess she has never had to handle money or care for herself so the first day her horse is stolen, the innkeeper took her most valuable coins an she didn’t have enough left to buy a ticket for the mail coach. Our hero offers to take her on his phaeton. He even finds a companion to help her with propriety. Thus begins their adventure.
