Mary Rabin’s heart races as she returns to the quaint town of Habakkuk, Missouri, the place she was kidnapped from at the tender age of eight.
Decades later, the hope of reuniting with her estranged family fills her with exhilaration and joy. However, not everyone in this seemingly idyllic town is eager to welcome her back.
As she settles into her new life, Mary discovers that her neighbor, Valentina Kouris, harbors a dark secret. Valentina’s daughter, Sophia, a friend of Mary’s own twelve-year-old, is merely a pawn in Valentina’s sinister plot to destroy Mary’s family. Driven by a personal vendetta, Valentina uses her association with Garringer, a menacing cult leader with a hidden agenda that sends chills down Mary’s spine, to pull off her scheme.
In this gripping tale of suspense and family secrets, Mary must navigate the murky waters of betrayal and revenge while uncovering the truth about the past that continues to haunt her. This contemporary novel will keep you on the edge of your seat as Mary fights to protect her family from the darkness luring in the shadows of her hometown.

If you’re a fan of Francine Rivers, Karen Kingsbury, or Deborah Raney, you’ll love the characters in The Habakkuk Series!
This book is a page turner. Mary is back home in her home town and the drama does not stop. There are fights, gun shots, a fifty year old woman…..pregnant, and prayer. Yes the underlying theme always comes back to faith and trust in God.I love all the twists and turns and I don’t think I’ll ever whistle again!!! ( read the book)
Author Kara R. Hunt continues the heartwarming series Paper Dolls with the story of Mary. If you’ve not read the previous books, go grab them right now! You will not want to stop reading! While we follow the story of Mary, our heartstrings are pulled as she fights to fit into the town she so desperately loves, with her best friends surrounding her, all the while protecting her child and her family from the evil that lives just around the corner. Her faith is tested and her perseverance shows as she leans on Christ and fights to do the right thing. When her family is threatened, she shows strength and calm in the midst of chaos. Kara has a way with writing as if you are sitting right there with the characters, living their life right alongside them. It is a beautiful testimony when an author can write such a wonderful fiction story with Christ as the center and write it in such a way that it is as if it is happening right before your eyes.
The storyline is replete with unexpected developments that maintain reader engagement. It addresses complex issues such as jealousy, personal demons, spiritual warfare, the role of prayer warriors, along with discussions of betrayal and abandonment; yet it ultimately conveys a message of triumph. A key takeaway from this book is the importance of overcoming fear to make space for faith in one's life
Mary: Paper Dolls is the first book I have read written by Kara R. Hunt. I look forward to reading some more books. This book was intense. I definitely had to take a moment to process it at the end. There is a lot to unpack in this story. The main character Mary was kidnapped in the past, there is a local satanist/ cult ring, someone is out to get Mary's family. We see a lot of character development in Mary as she is still processing her past and dealing with protecting her own family. Kara R. Hunt did a great job intertwining faith throughout the book. *I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
