Serenity. Serenity Rose Johnson has only one hope, and that’s to find a pack that will treat her kindly, and maybe allow her to follow her dreams of being a fashion designer. She hasn't had it easy, but somehow, she's never given up that hope—not even after her dads sold her to omega traffickers to settle their debts.
Her foolish hope helps her to escape her abusers, but she finds herself alone on the side of a deserted road in the middle of winter, in the dead of night. Headlights are the last thing she sees before unconsciousness and certain death.
But when Serenity wakes up, she isn't dead, although she might just be in the mansion of the famous Pack Rhodes, four of the country's most eligible bachelors. Business mogul Sebastián Rivera St. James, rock star Malcolm Rivers, pro linebacker Tane Kekoa, and their pack leader, heartthrob actor Remy Rhodes just happen to be searching for a pack omega. As the handsome alphas nurse her back to health, Serenity can’t help but hope that she might be what they’re looking for.
Remy. Remy Rhodes has a plan and Serenity Rose Johnson isn't in it. His family—and the rest of the world—have high expectations for him and, as pack leader, it’s up to him to make sure that Pack Rhodes maintain their impeccable reputation. They have wealth, power, and fame. There’s only one thing missing, and they’ll finally have it all.
After years of hard work and preparation, they’re ready to complete their pack—they just have to find their perfect omega. Of course, Remy has carefully compiled a list of suitable women who would bring his pack even more prestige. He’s more than prepared to choose between five rich, beautiful omegas who belong in Pack Rhodes’s world.
So, when his friends stumble into the packhouse after a night of partying carrying an unconscious, unbonded omega, Remy is far from happy about it. He’s even less happy when he catches the potency of her scent and sees the way she affects his packmates…and Remy himself if he’s being honest. Before long, he has to admit that his pack is falling for the sassy little omega from the wrong side of the tracks.
Now, it’ll take all his careful control to keep their plans on track and keep their unexpected guest from upending their entire lives.
A.J. grew up voraciously reading her grandmother’s Harlequin romance novels alongside Madeline L’Engle and R.L. Stine. She has remained an avid reader, whose book choices are as eclectic as her personality. As an anxious, Black, chaotic bisexual, A.J. Shirley writes spicy fantasy romance that is unapologetically inclusive.
One of the MMCs ruined this book for me. Remy was AWFUL. I detested him, his attitude, his treatment of Serenity, his treatment of his pack, his snobbiness and casual cruelty. He never redeemed himself in my eyes and I couldn't understand how the FMC could fall in love with him, especially at the point of the plot she decided she loved him. He was a trash human and never groveled enough to make up for his behavior. Beyond that, I found the spicy scenes awkward and...disrespectful. it felt more like them using her for their pleasure than anything else, ESPECIALLY Remy. Him being into the domineering/daddy/punishment kink when he shouldn't have even felt entitled to lick her shoes set my teeth on edge. The MM action really came out of left field, and, again, in a way that was dismissive of her and her needs. The book did not flow. It had me in the first half and then just proceeded to continually annoy me.
Back to Remy...I would have been happier if the pack had ditched him, or if he had perished defending her from the bad guys.
Serenity is a young unbounded omega in the abusive hands of an alpha, Jacob. On day, she finally makes her escape—which is the days alphas from Pack Rhodes hit her with their car on their way back from a party.
Pack Rhodes—Remy (Leader), Sebastián, Tane, and Malcolm, an established wealthy pack, bring Serenity for her to heal. But as Remy keeps his hard-hearted resistance in the face of his pack mates and Serenity bonding, it’ll do him more harm than good ignoring his scent-match.
Like… I don’t know.
I think I stopped locked in when Sebastian commands that Serenity stay in the pack house to heal and wants to stay with her so she has a familiar face. And then Serenity wakes up and of course she’s more than happy to stay with alphas she doesn’t know in an unfamiliar house.
I guess I expected…more?
Like, all right, have Sebastian be eager for her to stay. But let’s give a little more about Serenity instead of she’s instantly okay escaping one entrapment and then staying in another. This just turned into another “well my biology wants us together for the plot”, and I was hoping for a little bit more than that.
I think this is where third-person limited worked against the story. I couldn’t really get an angle for why Serenity was so okay with this arrangement and didn’t want to leave. It just felt like someone was regaling me a story about someone else and leaving behind details that would’ve made actions more understandable.
It felt like the author had two different characters in mind: 1. An FMC who had been abused and traumatized and needed to go on a journey where love interests reignite the hope inside her. She needed to go to the omega academy, learn about her instincts, a wounded bird FMC, and eventually confront her shit family and Jacob in court. 2. An FMC who knew and already was comfortable with Pack Rhodes and was overly hopeful and optimistic in pursuing a relationship with them and had lived a pretty uneventful life.
There are two wolves.
So things got combined instead of separated. I think, had we been given more reasons why an abused Serenity would flip a switch and dismiss her trauma to go all chips in on Pack Rhodes, I’d see the pipeline. But I just keep thinking about how the Serenity in Chapter 1 is a character for a different story than the Serenity we see in the following chapters. The Chapter 19, 22, and epilogue stuff regarding Serenity and Jacob and her lowlife fathers was such a weird moment. Again, it just felt like “My friend told me this and they read about this story on on a gossip blog” when reading it rather than us being inside Serenity’s mind and seeing where A to B to C goes.
2.5⭐️ rounded up since I did enjoy Tane’s characterization of being a more quiet alpha and I think, if you ignored how out of synch Serenity’s history was, this could have been a very cozy sweet omegaverse.

I FINISHED THIS FOR YOU, AVERY. The first chapter or two were interesting, but then we ONCE AGAIN IN AN OV BOOK LOST THE CONFLICT. The only stakes were Remy whining that they couldn’t be with her for “reasons” which he pretty quickly gave up on, the last 100 pages were one ENORMOUS spice scene that was so dull and repetitive. There was just nothing and more nothing. Their main character experiences EXTREME TRAUMA and then basically forgets it immediately and has no adverse reactions to anything. Remy’s plot may have made sense if it took place in Regency Era England, but not this. AND I WOULDNT HAVE BOTHERED BUT I HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF NEVER FINISHING BOOKS SO THERE 🥳
One of the Alphas was a complete and utter dick for nearly all of the book. Even when he realized the error of his ways, his actions felt too extreme for forgiveness from this reader. Of course, the Omega forgives him easily. At least twice, the dick Alpha also referenced hooking up with some of his Beta booty calls to let off some frustration. That felt super icky.
The Omega's characterization felt inconsistent. For the weeks after she's rescued she doesn't experience any PTSD or trauma responses, but after they're bonded and the bad guys are punished she does? That didn't quite make sense to me.
There is MM sexual activity during her heat that felt very odd and out of left field. The two Alphas involved never said they had any physical or romantic feelings for each other so then suddenly reading "Will you bottom for me?" was weird and not hot. One of the Alphas did identify as pan, but it was never made clear, or was even insinuated, that that was part of their Pack dynamics. I like polyamory in omegaverse books but this was not the way to do it IMO.
Well, I finished it. It was so incredibly terrible that I couldn’t stop reading until it was over, like watching a fiery train crash happen right in front of my disbelieving eyes. Unfortunately, it also ended tragically when the likeable heroine ended up mated to a small petty narcissist instead of him ending up kicked out of the pack. I think my eyes need bleach, after that.
Very sweet OV story. I am so glad that this resolved before the eleventh hour. The confrontation with her captives seemed to resolve very fast, and I do wish that there was just a tad bit more suspense and tension there, but this was still a good story.
The execution is my only issue, and while I can laugh off a couple odd lines or so every few chapters, there was just parts I couldn’t wiggle away from. It’s been a while since I’ve seen “motherf*cker” used over three times in a single sentence but it’s never been outside of a text message lol. It’s just too much for me personally. Our MFL has a ton of spunk and sass, but for someone who just went through so much trauma, she’s surprisingly VERY open and trusting. The trauma and injuries and following actions and behaviors just don’t align quite right. Like her abuse was just a stepping stone rather than part of the actual story.
The Pack also has some twisted points— like you have a bunch of Alpha males who just found their scent matched mate and are chill to let their pack leader do some wildness instead of having a reasonable conversation? How’d you build an empire on acting like a fool? The maturity levels I felt from the men were dismal at random points, frustrating me lol.
I like the premise and hope the next book grows from this point.
Almost DNF’d so many times and just started skimming. The writing makes itself unbelievable and is sort of disjointed. Like when she is escaping and the author says basically “I don’t know how she did this impossible thing”. First of all that’s not really descriptive and second of all it makes the writing exist in this weird perspective where it’s sort of first person but sort of third person and it just does work. It feels undeveloped. Also every outfit described by the alleged fashion genius is hideous and makes it hard to put a time on this story. Is it 2008? 2024? 2048? It’s clear the author had a few scenes in mind and a general storyline but filling in the gaps between those and the writing style make this pretty bad. Also all the men are written the same. When you read multiple POV reverse harems you can often know which man the chapter is based on the style or their thoughts and the personalities here are too flat for that to be true.

This is the first in a series of interconnected standalone contemporary Omegaverse books. It was well written and interesting throughout the story.
Serenity escapes a bad situation in the first chapter and the book follows her search for a pack and her HEA following her escape. The Rhodes pack is full of quite interesting alphas. I loved them all, except maybe Remy.
Tane was my absolute favorite, a big gentle giant for Serenity that just needed to take care of her. The characters in the book were unique and entertaining. I love a lot of the side characters and am not so secretly hoping to see their return in future books. Especially Mallory, the younger sister of Remy.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing more Omegaverse books from this author.
This story has so much potential, but gets hung up on pacing. It spends more time on some minute details, but somehow the dramatic parts are glossed over. I’m pretty sure no one is going to be mad for only 10 minutes about being accused of orchestrating a huge scheme to get into a pack’s lives. What should and could be a great way to further the plot, turns into barely an afterthought. What you do get is a lot of detail that isn’t necessarily pertinent to the story.
With more editing and polishing this story could be so much more.
There were a lot of things I loved about this book and ONE thing I was SO frustrated about! Darn you Remy!! Such a dork. Anyhow...
I loved that Tane was a giant teddy bear and took the time to research how to properly wash and take care of Serenity's hair. I loved how, even though Remy was not being very nice and it still hurt, Serenity was still strong and stood her ground. I loved that she took no s**t from the catty women that showed up to the parties! Haha!
Outside of the fact that the forgiveness for Remy was based heavily on the fact that Serenity already has bonded with the pack this was a good solid OV. I would have liked a little less ambiguity in the characters but overall I’m so so happy to have come across another Black author writing OV with Black fmcs. I don’t feel much desire to immediately move to the next book but I’ll see who it’s about before I decide if it’s a must read or not.
Rags to riches takes the main stage in this why choose omegaverse where Serenity has been through the worst betrayals and treatment only to find her pack in her saviors Pack Rhodes. While I still maintain Remy could have done a LOT more groveling, I am a sucker for a big romantic gesture and happy ending.
I ended up skimming this book to get the general summary of how it ended. Decent plot, but I think it glossed over a lot of traumatic shit and had way too much info dumping.
Started out promising but the spelling mistakes and word choices got to me in the end, as well as the plot holes. I also wonder if the author had read any omegaverse fiction before writing it as the whole heat situation wasn’t right. Lastly, “a while later” is the last thing you want to read in a sex scene 😳
From the 1st chapter, when I felt the urgency from our FMC, Serenity, and watched her find hope among the darkness she was surrounded by, I just knew this book was gonna be really good 👀🫣🤯🥰 From beginning to end it was indeed just that & even better than I thought it’d be, but you’ll get no complaints from me 🙌🏻
Watching the 4 men of Pack Rhodes fall, one by one, for the sassy omega with a strong core of steel (even after all she’d been through) was entertaining on so many levels. It was humorous, exasperating, frustrating (ok, the last 2 are definitely because of Remy 👀 Yes sir, you know what you did 🙄😂), swoon worthy, romantic, and it had so many HOT AF moments that left me fanning myself faster than a southerner in the midst of a humid summer day 🥵🔥🤤😝😂 Be warned though, because while we have fated mates, and the guys fall rather quickly, that doesn’t mean this is a fast burn. It was actually more of a slow to medium burn, but it worked just like it should with the storyline. Don’t worry though, because I never felt like I was missing out thanks to all the chemistry between our characters & the teases of heat that we got 😈
There were definitely some darker elements, which included a touch of danger & suspense, as well as just enough drama & angst to keep us on the edge wondering how in the world we were supposed to get a HEA 🤔 For the most part though, the biggest obstacles & conflicts for our characters stemmed from their own emotional struggles, although Remy (the lead alpha of Pack Rhodes) definitely struggled more than anyone due to societal & family expectations. It truly felt like those elements were all in balance with each other to keep things moving at a steady pace so that boredom wasn’t an issue at any point. Of course, it helped to have an omega willing to fight for the pack she knew she was meant to be with, and 3 out of 4 of that pack willing to do the same for the omega who unexpectedly fell into their lives & turned them all upside down (for the better). Not to mention, how could you not be entertained while watching the last alpha fight the inevitable, as well as outside sources who wanted to get in the middle of the happiness of Serenity & her guys at any cost. With all of that within the pages, believe me, you will be thoroughly entertained & wishing there were more where that came from 😉😩
I’m so glad I took a chance on this series. This was my first book by A.J., and it certainly will not be my last. I’ll definitely be stalk…umm, I mean following her from now on 😉 and I’m so excited about the next 2 books in this series. The blurbs sound like pure enjoyment for this avid OV reader 🙌🏻❤️ I do hope we get a book for Lori too though because she was a force to be reckoned with, and I would love to see the pack that falls for her whirlwind of a personality 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Top Favorite Quote ✨”…she supposed love didn’t have to make sense. It just was, whether you liked it or not, no matter if you weren’t ready for it or if you’d made other plans.”
SYNOPSIS: The FC, Serenity, was sold by her fathers to cover their gambling debts to an omega trafficking ring who then sold her to a sadistic alpha. Serenity manages to escape the prison that she has been held in and is found by Pack Rivera. A wealthy and elite pack. 3 of the alphas immediately recognise Serenity as their scent matches and but their pack leader, Remy resists as he has a vision of the pack’s omega being someone from their world rather than a homeschooled victim of abuse. Pack Rivera are looking for an omega for their pack which involves formal parties and vetting of contenders. The pack agree to add Serenity to the list. The story covers how each of the pack grow to accept Serenity and Remy overcomes his prejudices to accept her as their scent matches.
Heat Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆🍆 There’s a relatively high level of scenes (group and 1on1) with limited kink. They are not too many to take over the book and are hot whilst fairly standard in approach.
Overall this is well written and enjoyable. However there is limited action (save a bit at the start and the end) and no angst. There is very little evolution of the individual relationships or back story which makes the book overall, superficial. Whilst each MC is individual and distinct you don’t get to hear much about them as people or their history except for Remy where there is a bit more backstory. The FC is likeable but seems to quickly overcome the years of abuse and what she went through when trafficked whilst getting into relationships with the MCs. In fact, the story of trafficking is clearly just a plot mechanism and the author just uses it as and when she feels she wants to add a bit of drama. There’s no direct description of what the FC went through it is all dealt with in passing, as something that has already happened and at a high level. It’s annoying when author’s choose plot tropes just to short cut drama but don’t fully commit. It trivialises the real issues that they pull into their stories.
The climax is laughable with nothing happening then suddenly the villain appears (imagine old films with the villain rubbing their hands together wearing a cape!) and is quickly dealt with. It’s a bit farcical.
Overall this is an OK read but superficial popcorn with slightly cardboard characters.
This book hit all the boxes for me with an omegaverse! I have a soft spot for this genre, and love finding new authors who are writing in this universe. A.J. Shirley did not disappoint!
Oh my lord, the angst got me right in the bones. I was feeling it in my soul (top notch writing from A.J.) and it made my heart ache. I absolutely loved the character development and how the story focused on how Serenity was bringing out the best/hidden parts of each member of the pack. I loved the multi-cultural representation, the bonding, the different wants/needs, how the pack cared for Serenity in their own way, the sass (some of June's lines take the cake), the funny parts, and of course the spice (some unexpected MM is always appreciated in those spicy scenes!).
This book had everything I was looking for and more! You know a book is good when you can't put it down and you feel the writing in your soul. Props to A.J. for her fantastic writing style and immersive story - this book is also written in Multi-POV third person; and I've struggled with third person in the past and A.J. made it seem so much more flawless than other books.
I would rate this one 4.5 stars (but I always round up), just because I think the epilogue was a little rushed and I wish there had been a bit more tension/resolution at the end with Remy's family given how that was such a huge part of the plot. I think I also just wanted a bit more even around the characters jobs (since their status was essential to the plot), Serenity's dads, and even just how Jacob was handled.
Overall, I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next two installments in the series! This is another amazing omegaverse that I'm adding to my re-read shelf.
I received an eARC of this book, but reviews are entirely my own.
🩷 Knotty Omegas Series: Book 1 🩷 Contemporary Romance 🩷 Omegaverse 🩷 Why-Choose 🩷 Omega on the Run 🩷 Famous/Wealthy Pack
Okay!! 👀 AJ Shirley hooked me with this series. It started off with a bit of darkness and then bombarded me with all the sweet, spicy Omegaverse fluffiness. Like a sour candy that gives you a bit of harshness so that you can better appreciate the sweet 🥰
Serenity is an Omega who was sold off to a horrible Alpha to pay off her fathers’ debts. She escapes her captor, runs through the forest while malnourished (with no real clothes or shoes) in freezing temperatures… and is hit by a car. (Okay, that was the dark bit 😁) The car belongs to the Rhodes Pack, a wealthy, famous pack of Alpha bachelors, who just so happen to be looking for an Omega.
I absolutely adored this pack. They’re so different but balance each other perfectly. I loved that this is a multi-cultural pack and they love each other because of their differences and not in spite of them. I love how Serenity helps make the pack stronger and how the guys loved doting on her.
I listened to the audiobook and am so glad I did. Full disclosure, I bought the audio because I’m on a James Cassidy binge right now, but I’ve been introduced to four great, new-to-me narrators, soooo… justified! 😆 I’m already buying the rest of the series because the narrators stayed on, and they’re all so good together.
TLDR: Cozy, steamy why-choose Omegaverse with just the right tinge of darkness. Great cast of narrators.
This was a good, sweet Omegaverse. Everyone has a personality, though there are two many side characters. We didn’t need a bitchy sister and two bitchy rivals and a bitchy dad, or two sweet sisters plus a sweet mother plus a sweet friend, plus a sassy PA, plus a sassy servant. There just isn’t enough room to distinguish all the side characters, and they should have been edited down and combined into a couple of more memorable side characters. I wanted more time with the pack and less time with bland side characters.
I really dislike when an author gives a main character a really traumatic backstory but then doesn’t write any trauma in. This book has basically zero angst, even though its base is a human trafficking story. Make the backstory less traumatic if you don’t want to write a traumatized character. The story would have worked fine if the FMC had escaped her prison after a couple of days instead of three months, or had escaped her initial kidnapping. But if you tell me she endured three months of abuse, torture and neglect, I expect a little more emotional depth.
Knot Their Style is an intriguing Omega verse story centered around Serenity Rose Johnson. After being kept in confinement by a cruel pack, she escapes into the woods, only to be struck by Pack Rhodes's car. As they help her recover, the members of the pack, Sebastián Rivera St. James, Malcolm Rivers, and Tane Kekoa, grow protective of her and start to form a bond with her. However, their pack leader, Remy Rhodes, is not ready to let go of his control over the situation and has his own plan in mind for dealing with the Omega.
The story overall was enjoyable and flowed well, but my main issue was with Remy. I found him to be overly cold towards Serenity, especially when I felt that his harshness was unnecessary. Even when he started to "warm up" to her, it didn’t quite feel believable to me. I felt like he should have done more to atone for his earlier behavior, especially considering how Serenity begins to find her own strength. The transition from tension to romance felt a bit too fast. It would have been nice to see the men court her more gradually, without her being in a constant state of being "nursed back to health." I would have preferred to see her on dates with the men and getting to know them individually and together.
Serenity Rose Johnson has been sold by her fathers to a cruel Alpha. She makes her escape only to end up getting hit by a car. The Rhodes Pack brings her home to care for her and discover she's more than just a runaway Omega: she's their scent match. Serenity lives with them while she heals in body and in her soul, finding she is falling for the pack too. Problem is Remy, the leader of the pack, has a different sort of Omega in mind for his high profile pack. Will they send Serenity on her way once she's well or will they find that she is the right Omega for them?
This is a contemporary reverse harem Omegaverse romance with steamy scenes. Serenity comes from an abusive home and escapes an even worse Alpha. She has great strength, and I really love her sense of style. Each of the Alphas are hot in their own way with my two favorites being Malcolm and Tane. I never warmed up to Remy though. It's a fast and fun OV read.
you know those story phone apps? I feel like this is a story you could find on one of them. It's not the best written sorry, but it's addicting enough that it keeps you reading. That kind of vibe.
Our FMC was... interesting. She starts out with trauma and then we literally don't bring it up again until the end. You would think because of what happens to her, she'd be a liiiiittle more adverse to the men, but nah. Practically throws herself at them. The men also started to blur into one, lmao. It's told in multiple POV but their personalities don't really tend to differ the further you get in. Besides Remy, who's just a grumpy bastard to be a grumpy bastard and not in a fun, lovable way. He could have groveled more tbh
Was very excited to read an omv featuring a Black lead tho. There's a scene where one of the alphas learns how to take care of her hair and I clutched my heart
I downloaded this book on the stuff your Ereader omegaverse day and I am SO GLAD I DID! This book was so good! I had such a good time reading it! I loved everything about this book. I loved the story on it´s own, it was funny, spicy, had a great resolution to all the crappy things that happened, and well written. The way the author made each chapter feel like a first pov when they´re all written in 3rd was truly great. I absolutely loved the way the relationships developed with each character and within the pack, it felt true to each character and not just the author forcing them together. I absolutely LOVED the way the FMC was written! Even though she went through some rough times and had trauma, she didn’t become a wilting flower because of it, she was still sassy, strong, and a badass. I cannot wait to read more of this series!!
I loved so many things about this book but ONE (*cough* REMY) thing that made me want to break something.
Things I loved: Sebastian refusing any omega but Serenity. Malcolm walking in open minded and becoming obsessed with Serenity. Tane loving Serenity gently and giving her, her confidence back. He was my favorite! Such a gentle giant. Serenity not taking sh*t from Remy's dad, Jeremy, and all the catty women who showed up to the parties.
Things I didn't love: Remy
Okay hear me out. Did you he have some good qualities? Barely
I think the author needed to make him grovel and have some more character development cause he was not it but I refuse to rate this book lower because I loved the other characters and it (he) was my only problem.
Anyways I still really enjoyed the book and I will be continuing the series. I just hope there isn't another Remy.
cute, wish there was more character growth but definitely sweet
Serenity was abused by her parents when she presented as an omega and sold off to someone who starved, assaulted and made her do questionable things while he waited for her heat to come. In a desperate attempt at getting free she was able to run away and was hit with a pack who ended up being a scent match.
While this story was sweet I wanted to see some development of Serenity and Remy’s characters. Serenity was abused and forced to do things from an alpha’s bark, I wanted to see her growth from that but it was basically night and day. Same with Remy, he just miraculously had an aha moment and that was it.
