★★★★★ “This is a sizzling hot book. The characters are great, the plot races and the writing is great. Humour, magic, crossbows, ferrets, mysterious men – this book has it all. I can’t wait for the rest of the books in this series.” - Amazon reviewer
★★★★★ "The main character, Jax, is like if Gin Blanco (of Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassins series) and Harry Dresden (of Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files series) had a baby. That is high praise cuz I love Gin and Harry dearly. The HighFire Crown built a world of magic, mythology and mayhem. I am super excited for the next books in the series!” - Jenny B.
★★★★★ “Witty, gripping, and leaves you wanting the next book. I found myself laughing often and unable to put it down for long.” - Amazon reviewer

The story is just rocking along! I woke up at 5am this morning and stayed in bed until I had finished it. A seemingly bad guy is revealed - say it isn't so! I have to read the last book to find out!
So Jax saves the day - sorta - and after a case of convenient book-dropping, is off to save the day once again. Only this time it's less about the life of her obsessive not-yet boyfriend and more about saving the world from vampires. To do that, she needs to find the artifacts of doom. Which she then does something stupid with. Welp, even she says she's TSTL...
Is it possible to both enjoy and not enjoy a story? Maybe it's the made-for-TV episodic nature of the series and how long it feels like we're taking to get to the point. I guess I liked it bringing more of the threads together, but still so many vague things in the world building that don't seem to have been answered. Also characters getting chucked by the wayside (poor Bron) or still undeveloped (Darick is tall, muscular, has... a voice? Lysander has cheekbones. Tilexion is Mr That's-So-Unfair! Anything deeper than that hasn't been explained yet). Points go to cop-buddy friendship with Morgan though, and the return of a rather interesting orc.
The cliffhangers though. Glad to be reading this as a box set binge, as without recaps I'd be lost. Though why Jax monologues about events from earlier books as if you haven't read them at all is weird - you can't read this series out of order or skip one without being totally confused...
Well Things are not going well in the realm, between the Silvanos, Hammerskins and the council being after Jax and causing death and destruction all over things are bleak. We end on a cliff hanger with Jax in Darrick’s panic room with Morgan as they realize it is not a panic room but a prison. Has Derick been the bad guy all along? Guess we will find out in the last book in the series.
I love this series! Book #5 sees Jax in so much trouble, we can only wonder where it's all going to end. Nothing is as it seems and who and what is...? No spoilers.
Well-written and fast-paced with a great sense of place - albeit a dark one.
The thread of humour is cleverly done despite the terrible times.
The Chaos Jar picks up right where the previous book ended. Jax is always finding herself in trouble but usually manages to dig herself out. This book was full of suspense and surprises, especially that cliffhanger. I definitely can’t wait to see what happens next!
Wow! Non-stop action as Jax jumps from one impossible situation to another and it’s hard tell if she’s in the frying pan or the fire. Can’t wait to see how it all wraps up.
This book was definitely better than the last. The action in this book was good. However the ending was predictable. I do want to see where this leads Jax in her final chapter.
