I find that reliable information of living Orphic traditions is hard to find. Heck, even reliable information on the Orphic traditions of antiquity. But, friends, Orphism is alive and well, and it's incredibly adaptable to a modern world. In addition, I might even argue that we need Orphism now more than ever. Rainbird presents a lovely little book here, that is a wonderful blending of ancient with the new, a living tradition, a dynamic tradition. I really adored the photographs - such images can be SO personal, but their inclusion really showed a level of authenticity one doesn't usually see with books like this. Though a mystery tradition, and one of Experience, there are ways to share the Secrets and Mysteries, while also encouraging one's own practice, and Rainbird does an excellent job at balancing these (seeming) contradictions. This book is a labor of love, and a wonderful and heartfelt way to show devotion to one's Blessed Spirits.

As someone who considers themselves a Hellenic Polytheist and has been aware of Orphism since choosing this path, it was a delight to learn so much about it and read more on how prayer and rituals are given to the divine in Orphism. The hymns and poems were absolutely beautiful and you can feel the love the author has for the respective deities that the poems are written for. The research into the history of Orphism shown throughout the book is fascinating and inspiring enough to want to learn more and do my own research into the history and ways that Orphism was and is practiced.
