Great book! The homie Dwong did an incredible job compiling, commentating, and writing this work! Would absolutely recommend to any beginner on the filioque controversy between Eastern and Western Christianity!
Positives about the book: - If you want to understand the Catholic side of the Filioque controversy this is a good book to read. - The book is a good source on the Church Fathers' writings on Trinitarian theology; you can find a 'boat-load' of resources from the Church Fathers (and other saints) within this book. - From what I can tell, the quotations from the Fathers (and others) seem to never be taken out of context. Duong appears to always give the larger context that the quotes are taken from.
Negatives: - I highly doubt this book would be convincing to an Orthodox Christian. Not enough to cause someone to reject Orthodox Christianity and become either Catholic or Protestant. - To not get lost in the Filioque controversy, you should have some understanding of Catholic Trinitarian Theology before you start this book. This should not be your first foray into this debate. (To his credit, Brian Duong mentions this in the introduction, and he gives a list of introductory books to read before reading this one). - The style of the book is somewhat 'dry' reading. The book can get tedious at times; this is especially the case in chapter 3 - the chapter where Duong examines the Church Fathers' writings, which is the largest section.
