When a marriage of convenience becomes inconveniently complicated...
Mercy Caldwell, the vicar’s eldest daughter, has watched her younger sisters march down the aisle while she remains resolutely on the shelf. When a chance at matrimony arrives mere hours after her youngest sister’s engagement, Mercy seizes the opportunity—and the man she’s secretly admired for years.
Colin Birchall’s grand estate is crumbling, and his aunt’s generous inheritance comes with one he must be married by Twelfth Night. In Mercy, he finds the perfect candidate to meet his aunt’s exacting standards. It seems an ideal arrangement—until they’re forced to actually live together.
From differing views on marriage to clashing Christmas traditions, Mercy and Colin discover that convenience and compatibility are two very different things. But when Colin’s aunt arrives unannounced demanding proof of their love, they must convince her—and perhaps themselves—that their hastily forged union is more than just a festive facade.
Can Mercy and Colin turn their paper marriage into a love match before Twelfth Night? Or will their convenient arrangement crumble faster than Colin’s ancestral home?
Book three in the Regency Christmas Brides series,Yuletide Bride is a heartwarming holiday romance that proves love often arrives in the most unexpected packages—no bow required.

I love marriage of convenience stories. And this one is a good one. I loved both Colin and Mercy! My favorite scene was when Edith and Mercy baked the shortbread.
I loved this book. I loved how fast pace it was and that it was just the right length to convey a full story and make for a quick read during a busy season. I haven’t read a regency in a minute and this reminded me of why I love them.
The holiday charm was in full swing and I love all of the historical aspects of those moments. And y’all know I’m a sucker for marriage of convenience so I knew I had to pick this one up. I looooved Mercy and Colin. They had a lot of differences to work through and I appreciated them learning how to communicate and be friends as that turned into love.
I appreciated that the aunt was eccentric but not overly dramatic. She provided the little spark for Colin and Mercy that really got the romance swinging and I loved all of the little tender moments and the slow burn on the kissing scenes brought the tension. You won’t regret picking this one up.
A cute marriage of convenience Christmas romance with minimal focus on consummation and more focus on building their relationship. A sweet simple read with a few repetitive phrases and some solid side characters. 3.9 ⭐️ rounded up
This story just so happened to feature my favorite trope: marriage of convenience, and it did not disappoint!
What to expect: Arranged Marriage Regency romance Christmas romance Forced proximity Fake relationship Sweet kisses And lots of RIDDLES ***I love the last riddle the best.
Mercy seems to be destined to be a spinster and the topic of the town gossip as once again her younger sister finds her match, while she is left with no prospects. That is until a small incident has her running into Colin. She's always had a crush on him. But similar to her, he never seemed to be looking for love. She's busy helping her family, he's busy renovating his family home. But when Colin is offered a large inheritance that requires marriage, both their problems can be mended. She can finally move from the family home. He can finally have the funds to repair his estate. The problem is they are very different! They have known each other since childhood, but never as more than friends, so this arrangement seems challenging. But this isn't like all other marriage of convenience arrangements. In order for Colin to get his money that's been willed to him, they show they truly love each other. But is that possible? Or can they fake it and still recieve the inheritance? You can only fake the feelings for so long before they risk becoming all too real!
I honestly read this whole story in one sitting. Once I sat down to read it, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. This is my second book in the Regency Christmas Romance series and I have loved them all so far.
Thank you Aunt Edith for forcing the cousins into marriage, it's been VERY entertaining, lol.
I recieved a complimentary copy of this story, this review reflects my opinion of the story.
Teaser quotes.... "He had seemed overly concerned with the state of her gown and the behavior she might potentially exhibit. Both of those things raked at her. She wondered briefly if it would have been better to remain the town spinster and accept condolences for the next few months— or years, depending on how long her sisters chose to parade their husbands and babies about town— than to live in a house with a man who was not attracted to her and cared more for how she appeared than how she felt."
“I think we can show Lady Edith that we care for one another and the truth will speak for itself. I care for you, Mercy. Is that feeling not mutual?” “Of course it is,” she breathed.
Mercy has liked Colin from a distance for years. As the oldest of several sisters, she has been left on the sidelines wishing for love as she has watched her younger sisters all find love, get married and leave.
When Colins is suddenly in need of a wife, he suggests a marriage of convenience to Mercy. With no better options, she accepts, with the hope they he will someday be interested in her as more than a partner.
If you love marriage of convenience, set during the Christmas season, this one is for you! I loved watching Mercy find her place in Colin’s home and world. Likewise, I loved watching Colin come to appreciate Mercy and the ways she is different than what he expected.
Another great Kasey Stockton book that drew me in and left me smiling.
Oh my heart! I couldn't stop smiling while reading this delightfully charming Christmas book! I need to read them all so I can see what this nosy and wonderful Aunt Edith has in store for all of her nieces and nephews. She had me giggling over some of her antics, but I sure loved her kind heart and the care she has for her family!
My heart ached for Mercy during some scenes because she has truly loved Colin for years and he hasn't been able to recognize that. As she joins in this marriage with high hopes, she'll have to be patient for Colin to stop thinking with his head and let his heart take the lead. Because Mercy isn't the only one with tender feelings for the other. *Happy Sigh*
I loved the chemistry and flirting and banter between these two characters. They were sweet and delightful. And yes, even spunky! I know when I pick up a book written by Kasey Stockton, I'm going to be fully immersed in the story and drawn in by the characters', EVERY TIME!!! Don't miss this delightful new book and series. I've only read this one but you can read them in any order and they're all sure to be a hit!
Content: Clean. Some kisses but nothing further.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
This was my first time reading one of Kasey’s regency books (although I adore her rom-coms!), and Colin & Mercy made it a delight!
Their marriage of convenience doesn’t focus on the physical side of the relationship (it’s only barely hinted at a few times) but rather forging an emotional connection. And it might be the most realistic marriage of convenience I’ve ever read because Colin & Mercy both have unvoiced expectations that clash. It’s real life stuff for you.
Aunt Edith making her appearance forever makes me laugh—the things this woman puts her niece and nephew through for three sake of love and good intentions. 😂
I forgot to write a review for this book so don’t remember I clearly, but I know I loved it. It’s a marriage of convenience. Mercy wants to get married before all er younger sisters are and Colin needs a wife to claim an inheritance. Colin needs a little help letting Mercy be herself rather than being like his mother. It’s a sweet Christmas story that I thoroughly enjoyed!
Title: Yuletide Bride Author: Kasey Stockton Narrated by: Vicki-Jo Eva Publisher: Golden Owl Press Length: Approximately 6 hours and 2 minutes Source: Audiobook Purchased from Audible
What's your favorite reading spot? I either read most often in bed with a physical book or Kindle or on the road with an audiobook.
Mercy Caldwell is the eldest daughter of the vicar, and unmarried with two married younger sisters. With her youngest sister ready to announce her engagement, Mercy says yes to a surprise engagement with Colin Birchall. She has had a crush on him for years, but he spends all his time trying to save his crumbing estate. His dying great aunt sends him a message that if he marries a woman that meets the items on her list, he will receive 20,000 pounds. This will save his estate. Mercy meets the list requirements and Colin asks her to marry him. Will the two find love?
My thoughts on this novel: • Yuletide Bride is part of four book Regency Brides series. I hope to read the rest of this delightful series on audiobook next Christmas.
• I love the marriage of convenience and friends to lover’s tropes. This novel had a great slow build romance between Mercy and Colin.
• I liked that Colin notices how other women talk down to Mercy and he doesn’t like it. Mercy learns to stand up for herself and has Colin’s support.
• I loved when Colin’s great aunt, Lady Edith, comes to visit and bonds with Mercy while making shortbread. Lady Edith is funny and tells it the way it is.
• I loved the characters of Colin and Mercy. Colin likes to make lists and get things done. Mercy also likes to get things done and to help others out. There was a lot of growth between the two characters as they learned about each other and how to get along.
• This novel is a clean read.
• There was a great epilogue and perfect ending to this book.
• Vicki-Jo Eva was a great audiobook narrator.
Overall, Yuletide Bride by Kasey Stockton was a charming Christmas Regency romance.
What a lovely Christmas romance! Ms. Stockton has such wonderful historical romances and this novella was so sweet. I adored Mercy! She was so relatable and I really felt for her. She had watched her younger sisters get married and faced the pity of those around her. Miles’s unexpected offer provided the life she thought had passed her by. It was so sweet to see her get to know Miles in a new light, even when it brought on clashes. They had many differences and key among them were their expectations. She wanted to be useful and help Miles. I felt for Miles! He was doing his best with his home and his responsibilities. He felt the weight of the crumbling estate and his hoped for solution had more unexpected consequences than he was ready for. He could be very particular about how he thought things should be and it brought tension between him and Mercy. They needed to learn how to work together and to let go of some of their expectations. I loved the small town aspect of the story and Mile’s aunt! She was hilarious and really cared about her family. Both Miles and Mercy had sweet families, even if they did not completely understand them. They did their best to support them. I also really enjoyed the Christmas season the book is set in, it really brings in the holiday spirit! This is a sweet holiday historical romance with only kissing.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
I’m still trying to wrap my mind around Mercy being considered a spinster at the grand old age of 27 plus thought of as being almost out of childbearing age. So glad most of us have changed that way of thinking. One might be excused for thinking that because they’ve known each other for years, Colin and Mercy might have an easier time settling into marriage. We would have been wrong. This is a delightful story of miscommunication and misguided expectations. I’m sorry but Colin would have driven me around the bend with his straightening, adjusting and time issues. I completely enjoyed this story.
A beautiful, satisfying story of love from a marriage of convenience through appreciation to joy to deep love. I loved Colin’s aunt Edith and how she put this whole thing together in order to provide for her nephew, not just the funds he needed to restore his crumbling home, but even more the love he needed to overcome his loneliness and hermit tendencies.
I did not expect anything less from Kasey, than almost perfection. The characters were wonderful and lovable, and I loved that Mercy and Colin had to learn a few things before their marriage became wholesome and beautiful. And the name Noel is adorable.
This was such a sweet story. A list making, strictly speaking gentleman is given a nudge by his Great Aunt to marry. He finds his bride in a vicars daughter who has been looked over for her sisters. She is beautiful, kind, and generous. Everything that his Aunt wants in a wife for him. But ultimately, someone he could grow to love.
The story was too repetitive for my liking! It felt like it dragged for no reason. Some scenes were not relevant to the story at all. Lots of misconceptions that could’ve have been solved had they actually talked.
This is such a fun multi-author series and I have enjoyed reading three of the four books so far. There are four cousins who are asked to show up at a Solicitor's officer. They have no idea why they are there and are surprised when they find out that their Aunt Edith is dying and has a letter for each one of them. All of their letters require them to fulfill her instructions by Twelfth Night which is just a short time away. If the instructions are fulfilled they will each receive an inheritance.
All of them thought their Aunt Edith was a little eccentric, but she had a very happy marriage which she wanted each one of her relatives to experience for themself. So bribing each one individually with exactly what they needed or desired is how she set them up to fall in love.
This is Colin Birchall's story and his Aunt has required that he find a wife and fall in love by Twelfth Night. She will give him a large amount of money which will help Colin fix up his estate which is falling apart. She gives him a list of things he should look for in his chosen wife. So Colin being a very organized man immediately starts working on a list of the requirements and the young ladies at home who would meet them.
Mercy Caldwell, the vicar’s eldest daughter, has seen love pass her by and she is discouraged as she watches each of her younger sisters find a husband. When her youngest sister is engaged, Mercy knows she will receive the pity of the people in the town again. When Colin's carriage almost runs Mercy off the road, he stops to help her. Suddenly Colin realizes that Mercy fits all of the things on his list and knowing he has such a short time, he asks her to marry him. Mercy has always admired Colin and knowing this may be her one chance at marriage agrees.
As Mercy and Colin start their lives together they will have to learn how to live together compatibly. They come from very different backgrounds and Colin wants Mercy to act like a titled woman of leisure while she is used to serving others as the daughter of the Vicar. Most of the rest of the story is watching this couple grow in their relationship to one another.
As Aunt Edith plans on visiting to make sure that Colin has fulfilled the requirements to receive the money, will she find the couple has found true love?
I received a coy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Colin is desperate to save his failing estate when he learns his aunt will leave him a sizeable inheritance...if he falls in love and marries a woman his aunt approves of before Twelfth Night. When he encounters Mercy and realizes she fits all of his aunt's requirements, it seems fate solved the problem for him.
Mercy has long admired Colin from afar and when he proposes, she happily accepts. But the newly married couple realizes that a happy marriage takes patience and work. When they are forced to pretend to be in love to appease Colin's aunt they discover their feelings go beyond what their marriage of convenience and have to decide if they are willing to fight for their happily ever after.
What you'll love: Regency era dual pov marriage of convenience secret crush fake relationship Christmas charm bullet pudding shortbread baking Aunt Edith the riddles slow burn newlywed trials the first kiss cute epilogue!
Marriage of convenience romances set in the Regency era are one of my most favorite things and thanks to Aunt Edith's meddling, I was able to read another one by one of my favorite authors and it was so incredibly sweet!
Mercy and Colin are such a relatable couple! They start their marriage with different expectations and it causes some awkward moments and misunderstandings, but I loved their journey of learning to communicate and to trust and eventually, to love. They helped compliment each other and see the beauty in compromise. And oh, that ending left me sighing with happiness!!
And my review would not be complete with Aunt Edith. She may be scheming and meddling but you cannot deny she is quite adept at matchmaking! She is spunky and sassy and stubborn and I loved every bit of her character.
This is part of a connected series but is a standalone, though fans of historical romance are going to want to add the entire series to their holiday reading list this year!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
This is a great addition to a wonderful series. Each book in the series is about a different cousin who has been offered an inheritance with stipulations. This story is about Colin Burchall. His father passed away after basically leaving the family in ruin, it has been Collins drive to get his estate profitable and repair the rundown Manor. His Aunt Edith told him he would inherit 20,000 pounds if he married by 12th night. Another stipulation Is he must married for love. While he wants to say no, he is in desperate need for the funds to restore his manor. So he begins making a list of eligible young ladies in the town. Mercy Caldwell is the oldest daughter of the local Vicar. She just learned that the last and youngest of her sisters is engaged, leaving her basically a spinster and living with her parents. Mercy has always had a soft spot in her heart for Colin Burchall. When out of the blue, after she is drenched in mud from his passing carriage. he stops and proposes that they marry. Knowing this is a marriage of convenience, she doesn’t have to think twice, she can always hope he will grow to love her. This is a charming and witty story about learning to love the one you’re with. I was intrigued in the contrite times, and basked in the sweet tender moments. They were such opposites in many ways, but definitely brought out the best in each other. And Aunt Edith is delightful. It is a lovely holiday, clean Regency romance.
TLDR: This is a MUST READ Christmas, regency romance!!
Colin: 'His estate was falling to ruin. His money was gone. His servants were abandoning him. In the midst of all that, he had to travel through frigid weather to London to attend summoning by his eccentric great aunt. None of his week had gone according to plan.'
Mercy: 'Had the universe decided to play a cruel trick on her? Grace had received a proposal, and all Mercy got was a spray of mud from the most handsome man in Millcombe.'
I'm a long-time fan of Kasey Stockton books and these two characters are some of my all0time favorite that she has ever come up with.
I loved (and related to) Colin's need for lists and order...I also loved Mercy's kindness and innate instincts to make the world around her a better place. Together this is one entertaining marriage of convenience romance!! It was fun to see their worlds collide and figure out how to coexist with one another without becoming someone they weren't, while also becoming a better version of themselves.
This book was highly entertaining, completely enjoyable and it will be fining a spot on my favorites shelf!
This book is available TODAY!!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content/Trigger: off-page mention of loss of parent, gossip, romance-kisses only.
Colin must be married to receive a much-needed inheritance from his aunt, but she has stipulated that the girl must be charitable and kind and make him laugh. Also, he must be in love, or at least have the future possibility of falling in love with his wife. And this all has to happen before twelfth night.
On the way home from this auspicious meeting, his carriage splashes Mercy, one of the vicars’ daughters, soaking her. As he walks her home, he realizes that she fits every requirement on his aunt’s list and proposes. They’ve known each other since they were small children playing together and so he knows her well.
Mercy is feeling the pain of watching yet another younger sister get engaged, while she is ‘left on the shelf’. Colin’s sudden proposal is very welcome, especially since she’s always secretly crushed on him.
Then our story really begins. It’s a sweet story of a newlywed couple making adjustments to expectations of what their rules should be within a marriage, not consummating the marriage yet, and finding a growing attraction to one another physically, but also admiring one another’s character traits.
The marriage of convenience trope is one of my favorites and this one is just so realistic and just so tender.
This story seems like it was built by looking at a trope menu: Pick two tropes from column A and two from column B.
The first trope to be chosen is the "I will marry the first eligible woman I can find" one. Colin Birchall, the hero, also falls into the "I inherited when my father died, but he wasted all our money and our estate is falling apart" category.
Colin is in a quandary because he stumbles into the "I must marry in less than two months to be given all the money I need by my elderly relative" snare.
Once they are married, Colin and Mercy, the vicar's daughter, never say a loving word or make a move because they are trapped in the "I love her but she doesn't love me/I love him but he doesn't love me" trope.
The final standard plot solution did not quite fit into the usual structure. Mercy is hurt and Colin realizes he loves her; she realizes she was wrong to disobey her husband.
There are details to flesh out the cast. For instance, the vicar is a jokester, an uncommon vicar trait in HRs.
The story is clean and wholesome and had no surprises. Many readers will enjoy the book. I'd like a little more to raise it above prosaic.
This book is a lovely, quick read with some of my favorite tropes. Friends to lovers and marriage of convenience. And a shout out to dual POV and meddling family member. (Aunt Edith!!) Plus I will read any book of Kasey Stockton’s.
There was so many things to love in this story. Mercy and Colin have known each other since they were young. I love how their friendship/acquaintance was already established. The “re-meet cute” in the story was funny.
Mercy is a doll, a spinster who is the oldest sister. As she watches her younger sisters marry and puts up with town gossip, she keeps her head held high. Mercy is so kind and puts up with a lot. Her wit and humor was my favorite thing about her. Colin is needing to save his estate. When Aunt Edith offers an inheritance, he quickly realizes what needs to be done.
I love these types of books where the characters come together and compromise and find love. Mercy and Colin’s journey is one I won’t soon forget. And the riddles were my favorite!
This book is part of a connected series, but can be read as a stand-alone.
I received a copy from the author. All views are my own.
A clean story. Number 3 in this series. I thought the premise of the story interesting. I liked Mercy’s character although she was a bit quick agreeing to marry. Yes, she had always liked and wanted Colin, but not having talked in some time he splashes her with his carriage and then offers marriage which she accepts. I think she was too sensible and practical to agree immediately. As for Colin I did not like his character. I understand he welcomed order and had lists etc (ADHD?) but he was very self centred I think. He apparently had no idea what the lady of the house did. Even though his mother behaved as she did I think as a gentleman he would have known the lady became mistress of the house and would have responsibility for ‘ordering’ how the house performed and would be involved in hiring new maids etc. He didn’t even think to give her a tour of the property and just expected her to embroider all day. That grated with me. He did not come over as a nice person, and certainly had not been mixing in local society. It just squeezed 4 stars as it is readable
“Any man who will always give you the last bit of pie is the best sort.”
Colin and Mercy have such a fun marriage of convenience. They’ve known each other forever and an inheritance ultimatum from a great-aunt, a mud splattering event, and a desperate desire to marry before all the younger sisters, spurs this couple to rush into the “I do’s” and it couldn’t be more fun as they each navigate their ways to their happily ever afters.
The ins and outs of meshing two similar, yet vastly different, lives together isn’t easy and I love the way Kasey Stockton blends these two. The give and take, push and pull is both highly entertaining and endearingly heartwarming. Watching the layers peel away, revealing two vulnerable humans beguiled me. Colin is very handsome and meticulous but meshed perfectly with Mercy’s kind, giving, and serving nature.
This is a series that has my heart and I loved every page of this one.
Content: mild romance
*I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given*
This was such a sweet read. My library had the audio so I was able to get this story in!
This read really made me think of how it would have been back then. Women had to fear spinsterhood and just plan on arranged marriages. It’s was just the way it was and so for Mercy to accept Collin’s marriage proposal so quickly wasn’t surprising. It helped that she has always liked him and hoped he would ask her.
Collin is a bit prideful and so he takes a lot on himself. His Estate is falling apart and the money he has carefully pinched for years is all but gone. So when his dying aunt offers him a generous inheritance with the stipulation that he marries someone that meets all the qualities on her list by twelfth night he doesn’t hesitate.
Sounds like I just gave the whole story to you, but the beauty of this read is all that comes after. Miscommunications, differing opinions, and both caring for the other. I loved the magic of Christmas and how they navigated hurt feelings and decided to make things work. This was a quick and lively read!
