You'll have a front row seat at the party, listening in to the early small talk—where light and fun ideas are discussed (“Did you know astronauts have Velcro on the inside of their helmets to scratch their noses?”)—to the end of the night, when conversations get deeper. (“Did the popularization of drinking coffee lead to modern democracies?”)
Packed with over 150 fun facts spanning the topics of ancient civilizations, animal behavior, natural science, outer space, human accomplishments, pop culture, and more, How to Sound Smart at Parties ensures you’ll always have something clever to contribute to the conversation.
Michael McBride was born in Colorado and still resides in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. He hates the snow, but loves the Avalanche. He works with medical radiation, yet somehow managed to produce five children, none of whom, miraculously, have tails, third eyes, or other random mutations. He writes fiction that runs the gamut from thriller to horror to science fiction...and loves every minute of it.
Great little book about an array of topics. I love random trivia, but I’m not one of those you will ever see on Jeopardy, so perfect for people like me. Would have liked a little more literary trivia, as a follower of Michael McBride, I wish his commentary was more included and less as one-liner quips. I would definitely recommend to friends and scholars in the making alike, though. Interesting and fresh take on delivering the info.
I’m a big fan of fun fact books and thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. I’m not entirely sure that it was what I expected based on the title, but overall not disappointed.
