Darius Delacruz is on a mission: To get his family to embrace their Filipino culture. He walks around wearing a tribal loincloth and encourages his family to speak their native language, Tagalog. Darius's family, of course, thinks he's crazy. His fast-talking brother, Davis, is more into rap music and trying to dunk on a "ten-foot NBA regulation basketball rim," despite being 5-foot-5. Their mall-rat sister, Marivic, is into her looks and her boyfriend, and works all summer to save up for a certain surgical procedure that will shock the entire family!
This is the full screenplay of THE FLIP SIDE, the first feature film by a Filipino American to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It also contains director Rod Pulido's festival diary and a foreword by comedian Rex Navarette. Filled with sharp dialogue and unexpected twists, it takes a funny look at identity, family, and sibling rivalry from a fresh and totally new perspective.
Hi, I'm Rod! I write Filipino and queer characters with extraordinary talents, geeky interests, and sometimes snarky mouths. I believe in kindness and never eating the last lumpia. People say I'm addicted to ube, but that's not accurate, and frankly, I'm offended by the accusation. I'm obsessed with ube, not addicted. *cough* Anyhoo, I hope you pick up my debut YA, CHASING PACQUIAO, coming out on May 2, 2023. You can follow me on Instagram and Twitter @rodapulido. Salamat!
