In a society where non-conformance is considered subversive and deviant, and all psychic ability is heavily regulated, Hauke de Grijs hides from the government and the shadowy Ecclesiae on a haunted houseboat in Amsterdam. His Talent allows him to travel between the Quick and the Veil, the living world and the realm of ghosts. More comfortable among the spirits than he is with the living, he has earned the nickname “Wandelaar van de Duisternis”, “Walker in the Darkness”.
Together with the young ghost Sanne, only recently deceased and still learning how to live in the afterlife and use her own Talent, he protects the dead against threats from the living, the living against the extremism and intolerance of the shadowy Ecclesiae and their supporters, and the innocent against anyone (dead or alive) that would harm them.
But even Hauke’s abilities will be tested to their limits when he’s asked to rescue a living family trapped beyond the Veil, in the dark and dangerous Lands of the Dead, where even phantoms fear to tread.
