A Leeward Shore continues the sweeping saga of Jack Horner with the same blend of grit, honor, and heart that defines the best of nautical fiction. Cal Clement captures the peril and poetry of the sea while grounding his story in the turbulent birth of a nation.

Set against the tightening British blockade and the uncertainty of revolution, the novel charts Jack’s transformation from sailor to leader his courage tested by battle, loss, and loyalty. Clement’s command of maritime detail gives each storm and skirmish a tactile realism, while his deep empathy for his characters lends the story a timeless resonance.

What distinguishes A Leeward Shore is its balance of scale: the roar of cannon fire and crashing waves set against moments of quiet reflection, where Jack wrestles with duty, identity, and the meaning of freedom. Beneath the adventure lies a powerful meditation on growth the boy who left Boston returns not just as a seasoned sailor, but as a man shaped by both the sea and the ideals of liberty.

Richly written and historically immersive, A Leeward Shore stands as both a thrilling sea adventure and a moving portrait of resilience during America’s fight for independence.

Worthy of your time and more

Cal Clement’s series was spellbinding and exciting with practically no pause in the intrigue or action by the sometimes unfortunate landsman, come sailor Jack Horner. Cal writes as if he had been born on the sea, his work stacks up and possibly surpasses, novels describing the travails of Aubrey, Hornblower and more.

If seagoing adventures strike your fancy, don’t miss “An American Sea Adventure.

A great story of life on the seas during America’s early years.

The author has written the most adventurous and intriguing story of the life and adventures of a young boy who is not only able to survive but to grow into a strong man and as well as a seasoned able bodied seaman. Very enjoyable reading for those who like excitement and adventure.

Excellent depiction of the late 1700's Naval affairs.

The story of a boy becoming a sailor , including his gaining renown as a leader and warrior. The colorful characters are well defined and the adventures are very exciting. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
