I never understood what people meant when they called someone a Golden Retriever—until I met Everett Daley.
My new roommate and I couldn’t be more different. I’m a quiet introvert, and he’s an outgoing fitness influencer with millions of followers, who lives his life in the spotlight.
Even though we have nothing in common, there’s still an undeniable attraction between us. We both have our reasons for avoiding relationships though, and even if we didn’t, there’s no way we’d ever fit together.
Maybe what we need is to surrender to temptation and have a fling—one that comes with an expiration date, since he’s just here for a couple of months while his new home is being renovated. We can just have fun, enjoy each other, and then walk away… right?
Or are we about to get so much more than either of us bargained for?
Surrender is a grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract gay romance set in the world of Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever Series. It can be read as a stand-alone.
Alexa Land never disappoints me. She consistently writes cozy, cute, sweet romances with humor. I love the fact that 'Surrender' features two older men, I love that we get to revisit with past beloved characters and meet new characters, and I love that we (almost) always get the setup for the next book. And up next it looks like Embry is going to get fake married?! I can't wait!
I’ve read all of this author’s books (aside from the one MMM book) and I will say her books are usually a hit or miss for me. There’s some I love and then there’s some I could have done without. This probably lays somewhere in the middle.
I have been waiting for Tracy’s book for such a long time. We met him in another series about 15 books back so it’s been years and he’s just now getting his book. It didn’t really live up to what I wanted it to be. He was super intriguing and I feel like we didn’t get much from him here. It’s been so long since his ex bfs book so I can’t even remember what he did to his ex to make him think so bad about himself. I feel like this should have been included in here so we could get more context.
Also Tracy had so many self worth issues that were never expanded on. His relationship with his father was never wrapped up, it was introduced and then there was no closure. I feel like a lot of the book was focused on Ever and his career.
This book was so short I would have liked them to express their feelings earlier on. It wasn’t until a lot later that they got together and then the book just went so fast after that. But I did end up liking both the characters.
For as far as SAFETY goes this had no cheating or OM drama. These two first meet on a hookup app and their hookup ends up being a series of unfortunate events that stopped the hook up before it really got started. They don’t see each other again for 8 months until they become roommates. In that 8 months Tracy says he’s hooked up a few times. We don’t know about Ever but I’m assuming he did as well because he came off as a little bit of a manwhore. There’s also no third act break up and it’s a HFN where they live together.
I really enjoyed this story. I was not sure at first if I would because Ever seemed to be shallow and obsessed with social media but soon discovered that he was a really sweet and kind man who didn't have friends and with his past he was protecting his heart. Tracy was wonderful and I really identified with his introverted ways and loved how he was working at the center while working on his degree to become a counselor. They were very different people who both were hurt by their pasts. Ever was working on his dream gym center(not something I would ever go to but enjoyed reading about the project)and Tracy with his wonderful friends. I loved that Nana was included and that Tracy's fun friends at the pink Victorian house were a hoot. And who could forget about Pete? What a character. Looking forward to the next book.
I was so happy Tracy was finally getting his book, it was a bit heartbreaking and I wanted to hug him so many times. I’m so happy he got to meet Ever a second time after that first accidental disaster . I loved Tracy since I first read his name, I still love him and I love Ever, Phil too of course. Ever understood Tracy and helped him out and got him to open up then to a friendship then friends with benefits then boyfriends to more and he finally got his happy he do deserved because he’s so hard on himself when he shouldn’t be. I shed a few tears but happy ones at the endI. Great book, I loved it and can’t wait for the next book! I loved reading more on Vee and hoping he’ll have a book after Embry’s. ;)
Love Alexa Land. She is one of my favorite authors and this story of Tracy and Ever did not disappoint. What can I say, sometimes an introvert needs an extrovert to come out of his comfort zone. Add a cat to the mix and you have a wonderful story!
A cute story. It isn’t too deep but I think that is just the authors style. The nerves from the character Tracy were a lot more intense than I was expecting and it really worked for the story.
Really enjoyed this. Only problem is that it's been too long since I binged the whole series that I've forgotten some of the other characters a little. I know I should know who Tracey is from older books, but I have only the vaguest hint of memory. Still a great read, though.
Alexa Land is one of my favorite authors. The romances are always engaging and the characters are entertaining and vulnerable. It's a full package read. Surrender is just as good as the ones before.
