Hundreds of years ago, the mysteriously powerful Elumen people were exterminated from the continent of Pathanasia. But recent attacks on villages have stirred rumors about the long-lost civilization and struck fear in the hearts of many, including Princess Beatrice "Bea" Vasson. For as long as she could remember, she had been focused on circumventing the law barring her ascension to the throne without a husband who would take all her power and rule in her place. But when a painful loss triggers her unique magical gifts, she realizes marriage is not her only enemy. As Bea searches for the truth about the recent attacks and her connection to them, she must choose between the solitary ruling power she once longed for and the frustratingly charming prince who may be the key to harnessing her greater power and defeating the impending darkness.

The Sword of Numin by Kat Marie, with editing by Jessica McKelden and illustrations by Katarina Prenda, is an expansive fantasy novel that blends political intrigue, magic, and personal transformation within a richly imagined world.
Set on the continent of Pathanasia, the story begins with the lingering mystery of the Elumen, a powerful civilization believed to have been wiped out centuries earlier. Their disappearance has long been treated as ancient history, but new and unsettling attacks on nearby villages spark rumors that the Elumen may not be entirely gone.
At the center of the story is Princess Beatrice “Bea” Vasson, a determined young royal whose ambitions have always centered on claiming her rightful place on the throne. However, the laws of her kingdom dictate that she cannot rule independently she must first marry a man who would assume the true authority of the crown. For Bea, the idea of surrendering power to a husband represents a frustrating barrier to the future she envisions.
Her world shifts dramatically when a personal tragedy awakens magical abilities she never realized she possessed. As Bea begins to uncover the nature of her powers, she also finds herself entangled in the mystery surrounding the Elumen and the recent attacks threatening her kingdom.
The novel balances its larger political and magical conflicts with Bea’s personal journey. She must confront difficult choices about power, responsibility, and trust, especially when a charming prince enters the picture someone who may either complicate her ambitions or help her unlock the potential needed to face the looming darkness.
