Art is lovely and story is cute but I was really left wishing for something to befall the petulant jerk of a king for a nice moral lesson. Plus, what happens to all the rabbits after they march?? They have to keep marching? For the jerk king to prove his court is great??!

A charming re-telling of a French folk tale, told from the perspective of a rabbit. A young man attempts to find a way to impress the king so that he'll give the boy steady work. His singing is no good, his fiddle playing causes animals to scold him and he lacks the coordination for juggling.
But he can make a whistle like no other... it causes all the rabbits in the forest to follow him. All except the rabbit who is telling the tale, leading to an unsightly, uneven number of bunnies. Will the narrator let go of his pride to help the young man?

While not my favorite Adrienne Adams-illustrated book, the artwork is lovely.
