The first installment of an epic fantasy for fans of The Young Elites...
Diana can't remember her life before her imprisonment in Isla de Los Dioses. All she knows is that she left a world behind to protect the people she loved. Now she needs to learn how to survive in the world of the Fallen - people with magical gifts and descendants of the angels. But learning how to survive with a sword is not as easy as it looks, especially when you are still holding on to being saved by the man of your dreams. Nathaniel, Prince of Ignotum
Enthralled the moment he has her in his arms, he wants to save her from the islands’ wicked King and offer her mercy - something Nathaniel has forgotten to do in years. Unfortunately, he is bound by oath to his King and cannot act irrationally and start a war amongst the two kingdoms. Despite leaving her behind, he cannot stop thinking about her, dreaming about her, and he comes to realize that their first meeting might not have been their first. Which can only mean one thing, his memories have been taken from him too.
Tied together by fate, they come face to face to witness an execution where Nathaniel realizes that he must act fast if he wants to save the woman of his dreams. As Nathaniel and Diana become closer, they begin to regain some of their lost memories. Diana of her loved ones, and Nathaniel of the horrible truth about the part he played in leading Diana into the King’s hands. Forced to choose between Nathaniel - her soul - and her family - her heart - Diana must decide which is more important to protect.
*NOTE this book is a slow burn romance so while there are no steamy scenes in Book 1, there is some mature situations that are more suitable for upper YA/NA readers.
I liked this book, but I was also very confused whilst reading it. I really wanted to understand the plot and enjoy it but I couldn't. I had to check several times that I was reading the first book in the series because: [1] the story does not start from the beginning, [2] the plot is not necessarily in chronological order, [3] there is so much going on but also a lot is missing from the story.
From what I understand, you're not supposed to get the story immediately. I think it's supposed to be like a puzzle where the story doesn't make sense at first until you read at least several chapters. But tbh the story does not make sense to me even after reading it from beginning to end. It starts off with 2 characters that seem to have their memories erased. The FMC, Diana is kidnapped to a kingdom by it's King, Damien (who honestly seemed more like the MMC at first than the actual MMC). The MMC is Nathaniel, who doesn't realise he also had his memories erased. Nate and Diana constantly meet each other in their dreams and I think they fall in love from these meetings, but their dreams keep getting erased. They are supposed to have this big connection, but other than the fact that they keep dreaming about each other, I don't see or understand this deep connection. I was honestly not interested in their story I was a lot more interested in Damien's obsession with Diana.
I think book 2 will be a lot more interesting, at least I hope it is because I was interested in reading this series after seeing posts about the plot of book 2. I really hope book 2 puts everything together and I also hope we see more of Diana and Damien interacting despite the fact that he is not the MMC.
WOW. This book was a ride. I am absolutely obsessed and so invested in the characters and the storyline. To keep this spoiler free, I won’t drop names—but f%^k that guy (if you know, you know). This book deserves FARRRR more attention and love. Will absolutely be reading the second one and shouting this recommendation from the ROOFTOPS!
The book seems to need an additional round of editing. I found some spelling mistakes throughout the book which ruined the immersion.
Probably a personal preference but I did not enjoy the instances of Spanish in the book followed by an english variation of the same text. It did not seem like a character who spoke fluently would be translating in her head so to keep with the plot I would have liked it to be either left in Spanish or fully changed to english.
Overall the story itself was good but I cannot rate highly because of the text quality itself.
This is a must read, I was hooked from the start, I loved the pace of it. Can’t wait to start the next one. I found the author of Tik Tok and I was sold when I read the summary and saw the art!
