Shadows of Love is a gripping murder mystery that seamlessly weaves together passion, betrayal, and relentless suspense, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.
Isabelle and Raphael experience secrets between them. They share darkness, fears and betrayal. Isabelle is a strong female that makes this book a real page turner. Great book.
Set amongst the beautiful village of Portofino, Isabelle seeks to escape the past. Having lost her parents, this time away is to discover her own independence. With a fresh start, in a fresh land, Isabelle quickly becomes enamored, falling for the sea, the culture, and a boy. Despite having been warned against men she might meet; she quickly falls for a rich playboy. Yet, as their romance heats up, he’s suddenly found dead, in a manner she refuses to accept.
Convinced there’s foul play afoot, Isabelle is determined to find the real killer, uncover the answers behind her lover’s death, and reveal the truth. The theme of shadows plagues Isabelle throughout this read. From someone hiding just inside the shadows to the shadow within us all, the mystery that surrounds this read is both intriguing and at times terrifying. Set in a foreign land, with a shadow ever lurking, “Shadows of Love” offers a chilling psychological thrill ride.
Showing readers everything that lies beneath the surface as light begins to seep in, “Shadows of Love” is full of strange messages, stranger men, and friends that aren’t always as they seem. Isabella must sort through it all to uncover the truth behind the shadows. Author Daniel Dean creates an intricate twist of psychological thrills and introspective awareness, as readers delight in the paths we wind down to expose the truth in Isabelle’s past.
Dean does a fantastic job of reeling us back to reality and furtively reminding us that things aren’t always what they seem. As characters reconcile, come to terms with events, or seemingly close a chapter, we are once again reminded not to get too comfortable, as even sugar looks like salt.
From death and deceit comes a truly satisfying read as our past always lurk just around the corner. There’s nowhere to hide, and no one is safe. “Shadows of Love” showcases Dean’s ability to wind the picturesque with the psychological, and the light with the dark, as Isabelle fears for her safety and all those she loves.
And it’s not as far fetched as it may seem because something similar happened to me when I lost all memory of my sister in 1954. (no spoilers except for that). It’s as confusing and hair-raising a story as the author could’ve wished.
I do have to say that it’s a book that needs some work in terms of quotation marks turning up in the wrong place, paragraphs missing sometimes, sentences missing sometimes. I think a good editor would help to fix all that.
Hardlove - A classic romantic foray into the life of Isabelle vacationing in the Italian coastal setting of Portofino, where the sheltered young woman attempts to shed her conservative approaches to finding love, only to be surprised and alarmed by possible dangers lurking around. The setting is inviting, the characters are well-developed, and the intrigue and mystery are kept frontal. Strong and mushy, it is positioned for die-hard romanticists.
Gripping drama that takes the reader from the turquoise waters of Italy to dark barns and even darker journeys into the minds of the main characters. A page-turner, this novel kept my interest throughout and provided a not-too-predictable ending. Good read.
I started to read this book, but found confusing. I has to reread passages to know who was speaking, scenes seemed to mesh together. I was ready to give up. Then I read reader reviews. They said to keep reading. The book has a decent plot.
