descriptionIt is no secret that K Webster is one of my all-time favorite authors, and I especially love when she dips her toe into the "taboo", or in this case plunges her whole body into it. I LOVED this book SO much. You'd never guess this was done by two different authors. It was seamlessly written and executed. Yes, the subject is highly taboo, and people will probably lose their sh!t (lol), but putting that aside, this was an incredibly sweet romance about two people who find their soulmate. Who am I to pass judgment on them?

description
So onto to the deets...as I mentioned, this was phenomenally well written. In a lot of coauthored books it is easy to tell what author wrote what part of the book (or character), but I dare you to try to guess in this one. I have read nothing by Danielle James before, but I am well acquainted with K, and I have no idea who wrote what. (lol) It was a fairly quick read as well. Clocking in at around two hours of reading time. It was told in a dual POV format. I didn't find it particularly angsty, and as I mentioned, the taboo issue aside, it was really an insta-love sweet type of story. There was no OW or OM drama. Hero wasn't a manwhore (21 years old). Heroine was a virgin (18, almost 19 years old), so at least she was young enough to make it believable. This was also a fairly slow burn in terms of sex, but when we do get to the sex scenes, they were smokin' hot.

description
Both the main characters were extremely likable. Mars was sweet. Sexy. Working hard to get his life back on track. Sage was equally sweet. Wore her heart on her sleeve. I loved the growth she showed during the book, and how she stood up for Mars. There were a few interesting secondary characters, but by far my favorite was Charles (Sage's Dad). The world needs more people like him. Last, it was all wrapped up in a beautiful ending, and I appreciate that these authors didn't gloss over the reality of two half siblings

I have little else left to say. I loved every page. Every chapter. Every sentence. Every word. I sincerely hope these two authors pair up again soon. I will be at the front of the line waiting to get my hands on an early copy!

I have always been a sucker for love stories about young lovers from different worlds coming together against all odds. When a couple has to make sacrifices and fight for one another, it's guaranteed to make me root harder for their relationship. Throw in an extreme taboo element on top of that, and I'm even more intrigued.

After I learned that one of my favorite authors on the planet-along with another taboo queen- collaborated on such a book, I was sold!

giphy (5)

The beginning of Like Dragonflies was exactly what I hoped it would be. The authors slowly painted us a picture of the lives of our hero, Mars, and heroine, Sage . We see that they both have some pretty hefty emotional baggage despite growing up in two completely different families, classes, and towns.

Once Mars and Sage meet, they can't stop thinking about each other. It's as if they finally found someone who understands them in a way no one else ever has. Mars asks Sage out on a date shortly after their first encounter, and in no time, they are inseparable.

tumblr_nr199jV7yW1td6160o1_500

When Sage's mother finds out Mars is the one dating her daughter, she drops a bomb on them that neither saw coming....a statement that would change their lives forever. The love they have for one another is strong, but is it strong enough to survive something as gut wrenching and twisted as this?

Before I give you my opinion on the story, I want to say that K Webster and Danielle James make a phenomenal team. Their writing is absolutely seamless, and if I didn't know this book was written by two authors, I never would have been able to tell! That's really saying something coming from me too, because K Webster is my most read author to date. I know her writing style very well, and I'm impressed by how perfectly their writing blended together.

ser-2

Like Dragonflies is the kind of story that makes you think about what if's you might never consider otherwise. It puts you in the shoes of two people that love one another whole heartedly, and let's you watch as their whole world comes crashing down.

In the end, should they have walked away from each other? I would say yes, as I'm sure most people would, but thinking about how unfair, shocking, and devastating it would be is just fucking sad. I heard of a similiar story in the news once, and I thought about how cruel fate can be sometimes. I can't even imagine the horror or pain those people must have went through after discovering something like that.

ser-3

Maybe I'm a masochist, but I wanted to feel that more here. I wanted to see more angst and unbearable suffering, because I believe that's what it would have been like in real life. Society as a whole would never accept their relationship, and the consequences of continuing it would have been difficult to deal with to say the least.

That's why this is fantasy though, right?! Things don't have to be completely realistic. The improbable is possible, and the doomed couple gets a chance at a beautiful life.

rjr

Mars and Sage's story ends on a sweet note with a happily ever after. Just to be clear, I still enjoyed it despite wanting the fucked up heartbreaking ending. Lol I read the whole book straight through from start to finish, and I liked both of the main characters. If you are at all curious about this one, you should definitely give it a try!

Like Dragonflies is a sweet, unconventional romance I recommend to all fans of taboo romance.

Together, we hover above the nothingness of the world. Like dragonflies. This space away from our world is the space where we belong. Together.

Mars McKinney and Sage Emerson come from two different worlds. Mars grew up in a trailer park in Duncan with his alcoholic and abusive father. Sage comes from a very wealthy family from the affluent town called Ashton Hills. It would seem as though they have nothing in common but actually they were like two lost pieces of a puzzle that fit perfectly together. Both have parental figures who have made their lives miserable and they are both two very beautiful souls with artistic gifts. For nearly twenty years Mars and Sage have never crossed paths until they both end up attending the same college, and Mars gets a job as a barista at Sage’s favorite coffee house.

Their first encounter is sweet and what you would label a “meet cute”. Mars and Sage are undeniably drawn to each other and they set off on a sweet and innocent romance. For once in both of their lives, they’ve found someone who brings pure happiness and light into their world. But then weeks into their relationship Sage's mom tries to come between them. As soon as she finds out who Sage is dating she forbids her from seeing Mars, and when Sage refuses and is caught with Mars again, her mother reveals the heartbreaking truth, that Sage and Mars are half brother and sister.

The truth of their shared bloodline nearly destroys them both. Mars and Sage are overcome with despair and grief. How can something that felt so right turn out to be so incredibly wrong? How will they be able to ultimately accept their new circumstances?

I really loved how this plot was written. This was far better than the previous taboo story K. Webster wrote with a similar theme. Mars and Sage’s love story started off innocent. There was nothing wrong with their intentions.

Heroine: 4

POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Sage Emerson had everything she ever wanted, but not what she needed. Her home was a gilded cage she desperately sought to be free of. When an old routine suddenly became something exciting, it gave her hope for a new beginning.

Mars McKinney was ready to turn on a new leaf. Growing up in a poor and abusive household, he ended up being sucked into a life or crime. Fortunately, his latest experience prompted him to fight for his future, but meeting Sage could either help him or ruin him.

I’m not the kind of person who would shy away from a certain type of taboo book. So when I found out about this one, I was excited to read it.

The only person I’ve ever loved is being pried from my grasp, and I can’t seem to stop it from happening.

Mars and Sage grew up a world apart but they shared the need to be free of expectations. I liked how they found and soothed each other’s soul.

The book delivered on the taboo aspect even though it’s less taboo than I initially thought. The sex scenes were hot but I prefer if it’s more erotic considering the nature of the book and it not being on a mainstream platform.

Together, we hover above the nothingness of the world. Like dragonflies. This space away from our world is the space where we belong. Together.

I thought the story had good potential in the first half of the book which brought in some emotions. Their plight and needs were understandable. But then I felt like the book had multiple personalities because the second half just didn’t fit. Everything became too light and easy that I felt it cheapened what happened earlier. The ending was also rushed and some issues were not fully addressed.

Like Dragonflies is a story of seeking freedom in love and life. It would appeal to readers looking for low angst, semi-sweet taboo romance.

Note:
I wish the blurb wasn’t so telling to help keep the intrigue.

I don’t know why it took me this long to read this book. not that I’m afraid of reading taboo stories, nope, on the contrary, I love them but maybe because it didn't have the required dose of angst that I’d like. It had all the potential to be an angsty read. Yes, it was low on angst but not toward the MCs’ relationship. And still, it didn’t prevent me from enjoying the story. Told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s a standalone novel. overall, I had a good time reading this and hope you enjoy it as well!

Another awesome book by K. Webster and even though I’ve never read coauthor Danielle James they made a good team.

This story was a sweet and emotional story more than I thought it would be. When I read the blurb I couldn’t help and think about Hale I thought maybe it would go in the same direction, but even though they’re both taboos this one was a more emotional version, which was good!

I was expecting more angst though since it’s taboo but it doesn’t mean the MC didn’t have to fight to be together. I don’t know I guess it took me by surprise the lightness of the subject matter. Regardless I still enjoyed it. Loved both Sage and Mars. Their relationship was so sweet the way they got each other was beautiful especially since they both were miss understood and that epilogue jeeze 1,2,3 cute cute cute! You’ll get what I mean if you read it. Lol! ♥️

GENRE: Forbidden Romance/ Taboo
NARRATION: Dual POV

MY REVIEW

Sage and Mars come from opposite worlds - Sage's is full of expectations and privilege, Mars's is full of abuse and crime. Drawn together by an innocent and pure love they were able to find a common ground (apart from their dad he he) a certain peace if you'd call it within each other

It is devastating that they finally found that someone who brings them happiness and light, to have it tarnished by secrets, lies and the unfortunate blood ties that connect them.

description

I really felt for Mars and Sage as they met and fell in love before they knew they shared the same father, so you really feel their turmoil and share their pain as it all unfolds.

I am a big K Webster fan and lover of her Taboo stories but for me this one fell a little short.

I found myself bored and was skipping over pages at times. It just wasn't flowing fast enough for me but overall I still enjoyed the story though it just lacked the punch I was looking for.

Seriously how beautiful are the teasers and cover design?- I just love them all!!

Danielle James is a new author for me and I would be interested to read some of her other works.Overall I give Like Dragonflies 3 Blushing Stars.

Sage Emerson was raised in a privileged home, but she eschewed the snobby ways of her upbringing and just wanted to be herself. Shunned by her peers, Sage mostly finds solace by being alone and painting until a flirty barista captures her attention.

“We’re not pathetic,” she says primly. “We’re tough to put up with their shit. Survivors.”

Mars McKinney has known loss and pain since he can remember. As a teen, Mars got into trouble as a means of escape, but he learned his lesson and is now attending college so he can move out of his father’s trailer. Upon meeting a certain quiet beauty, his life begins to change.

“With you, I want to give you so much more than I am. I want to be the best person I can be.”

As Sage and Mars share an immediate connection, they are able to relate to each other’s creative side and also the loneliness both feel. With such intense emotions, their relationship moves quickly and they cannot wait to experience each other as much as possible. What occurs is unexpected in that Sage and Mars are innocent until they aren’t. Believing their love is unique and not wrong, they continue on a path.

“Nothing about this is lovely or simple. It’s rushed and wrong and out of control. The moment will slip past us if we don’t take it now.”

In starting this book, I was well aware of the taboo theme, but the blurb does a disservice by revealing too much which eliminates much of the angst. The first half of the story was rooted in solid character development and I sympathized with Sage and Mars on multiple levels. However, the second half was odd in how others either embraced or disapproved their choices. The tone became more sweet and convenient rather than being steeped in struggle.

Like Dragonflies is a taboo romance that explores the limits of what society deems acceptable. This book will appeal to those who want to test the waters into this theme.

I went thinking this was another Hale, but it just fell flat. No emotions…just meh!
I just did not care about these two, feel or believe their “love” enough for me to be rooting for their incestuous relationship.

I'll keep this short and sweet, I expected to get more scandalized by this book than I actually turned out to be. Now then, I don't know if I'm just desensitized to that shit, but "oh you're siblings? I don't care! Go ahead and have a nice fuck.", was not the reaction I wanted to have.

I mean Hale was more shocking. Hell I think the most taboo book by Kristi so far for me has been The Wild , even if the ending was a little disappointing.

So even after all that warning.. I'm just not scandalized.

It's a pretty straight forward rich girl meets and falls in insta-love with the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks kind of story. And since the twist was already given away in the blurb, there isn't much holding this story together.

Nonetheless, it did not get on my nerves as much as Webster's latest books have been getting lately. So, I consider that a win in my book.

Mars and Sage have a forbidden love story but even more than that they have a beautiful, emotional story that I enjoyed so much!

This is the tale of the rich girl and the trailer park boy falling in love. Sage is a bit awkward, lonely and feels misunderstood. Her relationship with her mother is toxic and she never seems to measure up to her mother's expectations. Mars is the new barista at her college coffee shop, and when he asks her on a date, she is a bit surprised. Sage has some insecurity struggles, no doubt because of her mother. Mars makes her feel special though. He just gets her in a way no else can. They are both artists and they forge a special relationship of love and trust.

Of course we know what happens from the blurb. Secrets come out, these two find out they are half siblings and it's just absolutely devastating. My heart hurt for them. They were so in love and it all seemed so unfair. Mars knows he needs to stay away because let's face it. Attraction is attraction and he knows it's wrong to be with Sage. They are both so broken without each other though and convince themselves they can be just friends.
Maybe friends don't hold hands like this. But we're Mars and Sage. More than friends. Less than lovers. The something in between.

Welp! I'll let you figure out what happens next. I promise there is a HEA. This is a forbidden, unconventional love story with chracters who will not disgust you. Rather you will share their passion, feel their pain and revel in their love.

Like Dragonflies is a taboo romance and blurs the lines or "right" and "wrong". The two main characters of the story are half siblings but don't realize this until AFTER they begin to fall in love. If this isn't your cup of tea, skip it. I just wanted readers to know what they are getting into before purchasing a copy (you cannot buy on amazon and instead can purchase from Eden books). I personally enjoyed the book and can handle books like this but not all readers can. So you have been warned!

First and foremost, this book does not have the kind of drama that would normally come with this type of relationship. It seemed to be almost too easy between Mars and Sage especially when her mom found out they were seeing each other. I think this was the only part of the novel that had me scratching my head. Everyone was so accepting! However, I don't care for a ton of drama in my books. I like things that are fairly easy- I can do without the angst and have no problems. So the fact that this book was nearly drama free worked for me.

Mars and Sage, from the beginning, clearly belong together- regardless of the fact that they are related. You can FEEL it through the pages and are definitely rooting for them. K. Webster has always made dirty things feel pretty and that is no different with the love she develops between Mars and Sage. I think readers are going to love these two despite the circumstances that are really uncontrollable.

With all that said, I won't give you a play by play of the plot because I think readers need to feel it for themselves to understand their love. But I will say that I do recommend it for those who can read books that blur lines and take on forbidden and taboo themes. K. Webster is perfection at these kind of books!

**If I could give this novel every star in the sky, it still wouldn’t be enough.**

Like Dragonflies by Author K. Webster and Danielle James is a taboo novel.

“When you’re surrounded by flowers, they lose their prettiness.  Even flowers wish they could be dragonflies. And dragonflies wish they could be with flowers.”

Days after initially reading this novel, and I still sit in awe. This is the most seamless writing I have seen in forbidden romance from an author duo. It was literally like one infinite stream of thought from the same mind. Flawless.

“Her heart is broken, like mine.  Her soul is shattered, like mine.  Her existence is empty, like mine.”

Like Dragonflies lit my heart up like an explosion of TNT in a firework’s factory. I devoured every word, marinated on each paragraph, and became consumed with every page. I have found many books I love, but I haven’t felt this strong of an attachment to a novel in quite a while. The longer I read, the more enamored and totally captivated I was by this story. It literally overtook my entire person with waves of excitement and anticipation.

“Fire seems to burn wild between us. An unstoppable inferno. I want to go slow with her.  Learn every part of her bit by bit.  And at the same time, I want to consume her in one instant.”

Mars was the PERFECT male specimen. Bad boy, deep mind, sculpted body. Holy hotcakes! I fell. HARD! Fading, melting, puddle. His words turned my heart to mush! Sage was absolutely the sun that lighted his world. She was so kind and tender with him.

“She feels like something I’m not allowed to touch, but I touch anyway. She tastes like sin and freedom wrapped in a wicked package.  She sounds like a song only we know the words to.”

The taboo aspect of this novel drove it hard and fast, going from adored and innocent to mad passion and insatiable desire. It was a beautiful, all-consuming love. I hated the struggles that Mars and Sage faced in their battle to be together. But I LOVED the result of these trials. A more solid and substantial relationship that was untouchable.

“Love for us was instantaneous. A supernova explosion the moment our eyes collided.  The second our souls found each other, it’s like we locked into place.  She is this and I am that.  Together, we are everything in between.”

Like Dragonflies is, without a doubt, one of my favorite novels of this year. It is a must read, especially for those who crave the forbidden.

5 "𝙎𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨" 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨

I have been in and out of the hospital these past few days due to health issues. . . while lying in my hospital bed I read a book. A book that will forever hold a special place in my heart. That is Like Dragonflies by K. Webster & Danielle James. First and foremost I will say this book is not for everyone . . . it's forbidden . . . Taboo . . . but it was a love story in the rawest form. If I could pick one word to describe this book, it would be . . . Enthralled.

Like Dragonflies was a heartrending forbidden love story that was utterly captivating and simply unforgettable. Mars & Sage's story was a sweet, heart wrenching romance that will fracture your little heart to pieces.

"I like dragonflies. Flowers are stuck rooted to one spot. Dragonflies get to see it all."

Mars was the perfect misunderstood bad boy.
He made my heart pitter-patter out of my chest. He sure knows how to make the ladies swoon. Sage was the light to his darkness. . . and she lite up his world. Sage was so sweet with Mars, they both knew that their love was wrong. . . but that didn't stop them.

"If I touch it, though it'll fall and break.
That's what I do. Break things."

The all consuming love these two had for one another filled with such passion . . . the strong will they both shared battling to be together. When I reached the end I couldn't be more happier. They get their happily ever after they deserved.

Definitely one of my favorites of this year!
Like Dragonflies was an absolute gem to read, that will leave you a satisfied mess.

K. Webster, Danielle James

•Mars and Sage•

One of the best taboo storyline that I have read so far this year! The anomalous plot device drives the narrative to greatness.

Like Dragonflies was flawlessly and beautifully written. It's an alternating POV between main characters. Dialogues that will punch you in the gut. I just love the whole notion arc from the beginning till the end. The ambiance is atmospheric at most.

The book depiction is outstanding! It only proves that love is the most potent entity in the universe, whether it's wrong and heretical doesn't matter as long as you have each other.

You and Me against the world.

I couldn’t put this baby down.

It’s true once I started, there was no stopping because from the first words I was all in. This one gave me everything my forbidden/taboo loving heart could ever want or need: sweet, swoon worthy moments, heartbreaking moments and even a few wanting to gut a few people with a spoon moments, that left me wanting more when there were no more words to be read.

I adored Mars and Sage. Mars has been beaten by the short end of the stick for his entire life and yet he’s somehow survived it all with his heart still in tact and is simply a really good and really sweet person . He wants a better life and is determined to get it, even it means dealing with all crap he doesn’t deserve. Sage is so much more than she appears to be. Yes, her life hasn’t been difficult, at least on the outside, but on the inside she’s stuck and doesn’t know how to break free without adding more drama to her life. What I loved about Sage is that even though she is stuck, she is still very much her own person and doesn’t want to be like “everyone else” and rebels in her own way.

Mars and Sage’s journey was all kinds of sweet. It really was. From the moment they collided, there was that spark between them and I loved watching them get to know each other and realize that they simply made each other happy by being exactly who they were without pretense or expectation. Of course, there had to be a huge sinkhole in their road, but I really liked how it was handled and how they got the HEA they deserved.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was engaging and seamlessly done, I have never read anything by Ms. James, but am a huge #fangirl of Ms. Webster and I couldn’t tell you who wrote what, that is how in sync they are and I’m really looking forward to seeing what else they come up with. All of the characters were well written and helped to bring this story alive. As for the forbidden aspect, I thought they did a great job with it, nothing is over the top and nothing was pushed to the side, it was simple and I enjoyed watching it all play out.

She is this and I am that.

Sage Emerson lives in the affluent town of Ashton Hills, meaning a very wealthy family and has nothing to want for.
Mars McKinney lives in a trailer park in rundown Duncan with his alcoholic and extremely abusive father.

While it seems that these two have nothing in common, in reality they were two halves of a magnet that flawlessly fits.

Mars & Sage meet at her favourite coffee place where he is a barista. Their meeting is really sweet with Mars being the flirtatious hot barista and Sage her usual stumble self.

These two lost, broken and reclusive souls who were living a lonely life, going through the motions of a daily struggle.
Sage obliterate herself just to please a controlling mother, who was more interested with her social life and did not care about her daughter’s happiness. Meanwhile Mars, also attending college, is juggling multiple jobs trying hard to get out of the life he was stuck in.

The two strike up an unlikely friendship, evolving into a passionate relationship Love for us was instantaneous. A supernova explosion the moment our eyes collided. The second our souls found each other, it's like we locked into place.

When horrible secrets are exposed, Mars and Sage are unable to shut down their feelings and longing for each other.

Thera are some remarkable side characters but Sage's dad & Mars's aunt are two worth mentioning.

The collaboration of these authors is one that is smooth and harmonious, were words kept floating without a hitch, giving away where one or the other were at the helm. This is just another amazing read involving one of my absolute favourite writers. I love reading K. Webster's books but when she ventures into this kind of taboo it is always a must read for me. Her similar taboo works are:

Unfortunately I didn’t like this book. Maybe it’s because I was expecting another book like Hale. Sage and Mars don’t like their lives and they fall in love with the first person that tells them they don’t have to change who they are. There wasn’t much else to their relationship. My biggest problem was sage was a “pick me” girl. I don’t wear make up I have a simple wardrobe and I’m not very social but I don’t think this makes me better than other girls that are like that. Just because a girl dresses nice or wears a lot of makeup doesn’t mean she’s a bad person. Sage is “different” she’s shy and awkward but in an adorable way she’s not different like Haley who’s also anti social but not in a cute way. Sage is “quirky” she’s just soooo unique. Authors need to find a new way to make their characters unique instead of comparing them to other girls. Overall I just didn’t care about the relationship it happened so fast and they fell in love simply because they didn’t judge each other that’s it I really didn’t see any other connection well except the whole siblings thing. Everyone was ok with it and it’s not mentioned in the beginning it didn’t really seem so taboo. They never really faced any real obstacles because of it everything was resolved too quickly.

Sage Emerson comes from a world full of country clubs, designer clothing and fake people who will stab you in the back the minute you turn around. Her mother stifles her freedom and makes her follow her strict rules of her society world. Mars McKinney lives with an alcoholic and abusive father on the wrong side of the tracks. He’s been in jail, used drugs and drives a truck on the verge of breaking down. Their worlds shouldn’t mix…until they do. Each are trying to escape the world they live in to finally live for themselves. When these two souls collide, they find a kindred spirit and more…an attraction they cannot deny. Life should be perfect and peaceful…until they discover they share the same father.

“A supernova explosion the moment our eyes collided. The second our souls found each other, it’s like we locked into place. She is this and I am that. Together, we are everything in between.”

Beautifully told. Two souls come together despite all odds against them to find their little bit of happiness. I loved this story so much and it captivated me page after page. Sage was bullied by her mother and you couldn’t help but be caught up in her getting her say. Mars was a victim of his father’s blaming him for losing the woman he loved. These two just deserved some true love in their lives. There is just so much sweetness in their relationship. Keep bringing us these forbidden love stories.

If you have an addiction to forbidden and taboo love stories, you won’t want to miss this latest one from K Webster & Danielle James. It is such perfection and full of that angst that you crave.
