Red Rabbit #2

Darling Wildfire

Rate this book
This story is about Theron North.
Or as you know him: Kraven

Who am I if not a hunter?

I don’t want to think about what I’ll do after this. I’ve spent the last decade wreaking havoc around the world in preparation—destroying, building and killing—a lot of killing. For most people that would be the part that would get to them, but not me. At what point do you start considering yourself the reaper? At what point do you give in to the god complex of holding a life in your hands? Sometimes literally—I’ve held a bleeding heart, still beating, after I’ve torn it from my enemies chest.

At what point do you consider yourself evil?

Those are the questions your humanity is supposed to answer, but unfortunately that was stripped from me long ago.

What happens to a man when that’s gone? I’m afraid I’ll know the answer when all of this is over. That’s what they don’t tell you—no matter how deep into the shadows you go, the fear of losing yourself follows.

Even the dead and the dying fear the darkness.

Who am I if not a hunter?

Maybe I’ll live long enough to find out.

But first…

One last hunt.

One last dangerous game.

Darling Wildfire is Book 2 in the Red Rabbit Series.
It contains sensitive content. Please review TWs via the website before proceeding. It is dark. It is sad. It has extremely disturbing themes.

While this is partially a romance—there is a happy ending—and while there are plenty of steamy, spicy scenes, this book is not your classic dark romance novel. Also, while we all love Kaelin and Graham—and they are definitely important to Kraven—in the grand scale of Kraven’s life, he has not known them for very long. Please keep this in mind. Overall, I recommend going into this story with an open mind because Kraven is not always who he seems to be.

If you are searching for answers after reading Red Rabbit, and went feral for Kraven---this book is probably for you.

I enjoyed Kraven's back story.
I knew I liked him in the first book for a reason.
However, this book didn't make me lose sleep.
I stayed for the Atlas and Nyx parts. They deserve the stars!

Devyn Rivers second book is even better than the first! This story tells Kraven’s story, and buckle up because it is a wild ride! What I especially like about this book is the dialogue and descriptive writing, which Rivers continues to hone. Kraven is such a complicated character, and whether you love him or hate him you will definitely understand him better after reading Darling Wildfire!

Not gonna lie I needed to process this one. It’s over 500 pages of enthralling story with multiple POVs, it follows on nicely from Red Rabbit (though I did read that back in Feb 24) I still remembered that storyline 😬

This book pulls you in from the start, telling us their story starting in the present before it throws us back to the guys stories in the past before the warren. It encapsulates into each of their lives, what they went through, how they combatted their darkness (in more ways than one). It’s deep, it’s dark, there’s despair and disillusionment, at times you feel they are lost to the game and you just want to jump in the book and help 🫣 There are twists and intrigue along the way, some of what we read in Red Rabbit is answered, though I still feel some questions weren’t but in another vain do I need them to be 🤣

All in all, this is a fantastic read. I will state though there is v!0lence, bl00d, g0re, SA, torture, psychological manipulation, mutilations, so please read the trigger warnings.

6 ⭐️ hands down one of the best books to ever grace my eyeballs. A MASTERPIECE. Why aren’t more people talking about this are you joking me???

It’s Red Rabbit (book 1) meets live action COD. Insane. The research alone that must have gone into this, no, that I KNOW went into this is commendable 👏🏼

I read the pages at the end where the author talks about the factual aspects of this book and my mind was honestly blown into tiny little pieces 🤯

Take a bow sis 🙇🏼‍♀️

Honey, anything you write I WILL READ IT
Whew, okay. Darling Wildfire is easily going to be my top read of 2024. Red Rabbit snatched me up and I love love love how she writes and word builds. The scenery, emotions, the plot. Idk how to explain it, but it's CINEMATIC. Now, obviously, lots of trigger warnings ⚠️ I personally do not have any so overall despite the -bad- I LOVED this damn book. And I immediately wanted Kraven's story because I just knew I wasn't crazy for wanting him to destroy me 🫠 I only had to wait a couple weeks so that was nice. I immediately was locked in. Surprised. Like how did you think of this??? And the way she introduced every single man and made it all click over decades of time was outstanding. Nothing was rushed whatsoever!!!! The bonds made sense, the love-loyalty and brotherhood wasn't over the top or unrealistic. I'm not even into action and I was locked IN to the games and weaponry. I also forgot these are older men 🤭 Atlas & Nyx have my whole fucking heart and after waiting SO SO SO long for them to *kiss* was so refreshing because you follow along the hardships. Everything about this series is just outstanding. I can't even explain it unless you've read em too and can agree!!! I know people just wanted a throuple sequel, not me. I love that for them but that's not this kind of series.
Well done, ma'am. Well f*ckin done 👏🏻

I struggled to get into this book to begin with but after about 100 pages I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I felt so many different emotions throughout, diving into Kraven's past, this book really was unlike anything I've read before, it was dark, harrowing, emotional and packed with action and romance.

The writing was amazing how the Devyn has portrayed how the characters were feeling and you could resonate and understand decisions and choices they made, leaving you questioning your morals. Another amazing book.

LOVED. More than loved. Couldn’t put it down. The exploration of trauma and revenge and acceptance and love was so delicious. I’ll never get over this series. Queen Rivers deserves so much more praise and recognition for this absolute MASTERPIECE.

Wow. I have so many thoughts after finishing this book. It’s easily moving into my top-tier dark romance list. This story is pitch-black—twisted, violent, full of pain and rage. But understanding Theron’s past is the only way to understand why he is the way he is. You’re either going to hate him for what he’s done, or you’re going to love him despite it—and because of everything he endured.

He’s complex, morally black, and without a moral compass. Yet at his core, he’s loyal, protective, and full of love for the few people who make it into his inner circle. He shows that love in the only ways he knows how. The writing itself was so vivid it played like a movie in my head, keeping me tense and on edge the entire time.

I also loved the addition of more side characters and the unexpected relationship that bloomed between two of them—it became one of my favorite parts of the story. I’m excited to see what’s next, and this author is quickly becoming someone I’ll continue to watch and devour more books from. Please make sure to check your TWs. This books deals with very dark and heavy issues!

I will be sending Devyn my therapy bills because, wow. I was crushed, and then revived, and crushed, and revived again. And I will think about this book just as much as I’ve thought about Red Rabbit. Kraven is such a multilayered character, whose tragic backstory was beautifully written and helps to understand why he did the things he did.

4 stars! I have to say I enjoyed the ride! Its a walk down memory lane for Theron, Nyx and Atlas and how they became the men they were today. It was fucked up in a different way than Red Rabbit and did tie up a lot of loose ends from the previous book. I'd also consider this probably on the higher end of dark romance / pitch black depending on which section of the book.

I really did liked getting to know Theron, and how tragic his back story was, it did really hurt seeing who he was and who he'd become. Without spoiling anything these moments kind of broke me. I also enjoyed reading about all the military / tac stuff like it was an action movie, well done! And maybe I'm just really fucked up, but some of the torture scenes were kinda hot ngl even though it involved the villain lol. (We hate him tho, DIE! but my enemies to lovers brain kinda went haywire for a few seconds) I also really liked Nyx and Atlas, they made the story a lot more enjoyable and added that romance aspect to the story, or else it'd be a bit too long and boring to see the book to be 70-80% flash backs. I enjoyed how we got to know the other team members a bit better, which I knew were getting books because I mean? Hot ex military men? Please give me more why choose though! Hopefully even RH. This book def ended sort of on a cliffhanger plot wise, setting it up for future couples and series.

What I wish were a bit different was for the end to not be as rushed. I wish we got to see the aftermath of it all more, how every body were after they got their revenge. Also I guess I wished Nyx and Atlas would kinda join the harem bc the potential and energy is there lol. I wished for more scenes with Theron & Kaelin and Graham, groups scenes lol. And a part of me I guess wanted more emotional impact, since its alluded to countless times that someone would die in the process, no one really did and so the ending was a bit anti-climatic. Not that I was complaining Atlas, Nyx, West, and Knight were alive but I guess I was expecting it to break me more.

Nonetheless, I gobbled up this book in like two reading days and cannot wait for more books in the series! Would love to read more about this large group of like 10-15 characters and see old characters again! The found family is strong with this one.

Now, I didn’t LOVE the first book. The writing was mediocre at best, the tenses used were incorrect at times and thus distracting, and the excessive explicit rape wasn’t for me whatsoever. But I was intrigued enough to pick up book two.

And let me just say, having 90% of a second book in a series take place only in the past was an… Odd choice, to say the least. And mind you, the author also chose to do this after the main throuple had already been formed and established in the first book. Not having two thirds of that throuple be in said 90% of book two was also a weird choice. I just don’t understand the reason the author went this route? This could have been SO condensed into a novella if she REALLY needed to share Theron’s entire life story after the fact.

Instead, this book was exhaustingly repetitive. It was so monotonous and information heavy that I found myself skimming a lot of it as the pages went on and nothing new really ever seemed to happen. For dealing with such dark themes, I actually can’t believe I was this bored reading it. 🙈🙃

Also, Nyx and Atlas having so much focus was strange. Why not just do a book solely for them? Why include their POV’s and their love story in a book that’s advertised to be a sequel for Theron/Graham and Kaelin? It just didn’t make sense and I wasn’t invested in them because I just wanted to get back to the main story, which never seemed to happen either.

In all, I feel mentally burned out after this one. 😃 Do not recommend.

I haven’t rated a lot of books as 6 star reads but this is definitely one of them I can’t rate this as anything but a 6 start read I was hooked and captivated from the beginning I had just finished reading red rabbit and a friend told I needed to read this immediately and I’m so glad I did. There was soo much to this and I’m glad we got kravens story and what his backstory had consisted of before meeting kaelin and graham. It was an emotional roller coaster ride my feelings were all over the place for the characters in this book the devastation the kraven and Nyx and atlas all went through the loses and the torture the physical and mental it was all just one right after another I started this story an literally couldn’t put it down I loved getting to meet Nyx and atlas it was fun meeting those 2. I enjoyed seeing their relationship be built through captivity to after they escaped also seeing the relationship shit between kraven and Nyx and atlas be built they all took each other in and stood by each other. I love all the characters that we met it all comes down to one big family that was built they are all there for each other ready to back one another I truly can’t anything bad I enjoyed everything about this book.

what a story, what a read

All I can really say is… wow, Devyn Rivers writes beautifully.

She takes vicious torture and beatings, but writes it so elegantly that while you’re cringing in despair for the character, you can’t stop reading because you’re so absorbed into the text.

I loved the grit of Red Rabbit, and my love for this author’s writing has continued with Darling Wildfire.

While I loved seeing the relationship between our main 3 characters from the first book, I loved finding out more about the other characters… and how could you not fall in love with Atlas and Nyx. The blossoming of their relationship was the perfect balance for the turmoil that was occurring around them.

I can’t wait to read more!

Wow, I haven't read something that dark and good in.....ever. This series has caught my attention. I want more of Kraven, Nyx, Atlas and Kaelin and the author promised more. And I think Kaelin is likely my favorite heroine. She is really badass, but in a real way. She has suffered great trauma, but she came out stronger than before through hard work and determination. Yet her PTSD was still present as she continues to deal with it. I've never been in the military but I love the military brotherhood and comradere. FINALLY hearing what happened to Kraven and the boys in the hands of Vetticus' sick games was heartbreaking. I thought I loved Red Rabbit, but I think DW even more. Unfortunately this series is not for everyone, as it has triggers abound but there is a clear warning before diving in. But much like a slasher horror movie, this is bloody and sickening but very well written. So unless you are squeamish, I'd highly recommend this series. Can't believe this is a debut series. Jaw drop.

My god this was fucking brilliant. Yeah I got distracted a lot throughout and it didn't keep me reeled in however that story... My god... The twists and turns, the heart break, the yearning 😭. My god... Oh and the little bit at the end with it going into how Devlyn did the research and the historical myth with the Nazis. Like that was pure 😚👌🏼. I've not seen a book yet where they literally go into how they have researched for their book, to the point of even working out how much gold weighs to figure how many Helli trips it is, its fucking brilliant. So worth the read and would definitely recommend to everyone. Please check triggers cause there are some heavily graphic scenes in this. This was so close to being the 1st book I cried to 😂

seriously wish l'd picked up this book sooner 🥹 I loved Red Rabbit, but this one was somehow even better 🩷

Definitely one of my top reads of the year! It was so gripping I literally couldn't put it down👏

After Red Rabbit, I just knew there was so much more to Theron's story... and wow 💔🤯
I was NOT ready.
And don't even get me started on Nyx and Atlas 🤤
I'm usually not the biggest fan of MM romances, but these two completely stole my heart ❤️
As much as this book focused on Kraven and his past, I loved how deeply we got to see Nyx and Atlas's relationship develop, ✨their love was beautiful, raw, and unforgettable🥹
Devyn Rivers has officially changed my mind about
MM book trope forever 🌈
And those plot twists🤯
I did not see them coming!!!! Also the ending - omfg
I'm absolutely desperate to get my hands on the next book because I NEED to know what happens next 🩷

I was honestly surprised there was another book after Red Rabbit, that story was executed perfectly and wrapped up so well! When I saw Kraven was getting his own book, I was intrigued and ready to dive into his backstory, but wow… this dragged on far more than it needed to. I love detail, don’t get me wrong, but this went overboard to the point where it felt like I couldn’t even use my own imagination because everything was described too much. The multiple POVs were also exhausting, and I found myself rushing through just to get it over with. The story easily could’ve been told in half the length without losing anything important.

The wait for Theron’s book was well worth the bated breath.

Red Rabbit was perfection. There’s something so beautiful about a book that is as dark, morally ambiguous as it is delicious. It’s easy to hate Theron, but it’s so hard not to fall in love with the adoration, pride, and obsession to own, and share Kaelin.

In his spotlight, we travel back in time. I usually hate dual timelines, but it was absolutely imperative to be fully cognizant of NorTacs origins. I thought we had traveled down the darkest roads in Red Rabbit…woah. Rivers said, hold my beer.

The theme of “shattering beautifully” remains true for Darling Wildfire. No spoilers in this review though. Keep an open mind, a wandering moral compass handy, and go in blind. ***a check of triggers of course, mental health is number one.***

I shattered so beautifully myself. And I’ll unravel until the next one. 6 fucking stars.

Another 5 star read by Devyn Rivers! I felt so many emotions going through T’s story and absolutely fell in love with him along with Nyx, Atlas and all the other men in the group. I could feel the closeness and love. I’m sad I finished it so fast but I couldn’t put it down. Well done Devyn! I can’t wait for more!

wow. fucking phenomenal. PLEASE check your TW’s though!!! this is probably the darkest book i’ve ever read…there were moments I genuinely had to breathe and just cry through the page, but holy shit was that book all consuming. I literally couldn’t stop thinking about it or put it down. What a great storyline and much needed to truly understand Kraven. I genuinely didn’t know what to expect but it exceeded my expectations. I already cannot wait for the next. i’m so invested 🖤

Just wow.
Riveting.
What a way to start 2025.
Theron, and all that he owns. All that he claims. The relationships, the storyline, the way it was all tied together and how much more we got to know each of the characters. I was enthralled with Red Rabbit. This book was even better than the first.

Nyx, Atlas, Emerson, Deathwing.

I don’t even know where to start. I loved Red Rabbit. I LOVE Darling Wildfire. I was so on the fence on how to feel about Kraven in Red Rabbit. He did so many questionable things I couldn’t figure out how anyone would like him.

I’m obsessed. His story was nothing short of amazing and provided an entirely new perspective of him. I also loved Nyx and Atlas and I’m so excited for their novella to come out.

Devyn is an amazing author and I can’t wait to read what she puts out next 🖤

This started off OK. Then we were taken back to when North was taken. Then we got hundreds of pages of the same shit rehashed over and over again. At 50% I was losing the will to live as I still had 5hrs of book to read. At 60% my eyes glazed over and at 70% I really didn't care about any of the characters. If this hadn't of been a challenge book I would have dnf'd it.

I'll definitely think twice about reading any more of this author's work.
