It's hard to say how I feel about this book. The first three chapters very nearly convinced me to stop reading it entirely. It's written entirely in first person, a style I dislike unless it's handled extraordinarily well, and full of cliches ("My heart hammers in my throat", "My mind reels", etc.). The heroine walks in on her boyfriend having sex with another girl and has a fit. Only her fit involves throwing people around and setting things on fire. With her mind. And almost as soon as that's done, a mysterious woman pops up out of nowhere and offers to take our heroine away from everything to a special school. I felt like an afterschool special, yelling in my head, "Don't trust her! She's a stranger!"
But the book gets much better from there. The school is real and not a trick, and she does learn magic there. There's also a lot of other people there, some of whom are complete jerks. And of course she falls for one of the complete jerks, as her choice of previous boyfriend demonstrates her affinity for them.
The book breaks off just as things are getting really interesting, which is a shame, as I was just starting to like it, despite its obvious flaws.

Iris Archer discovers she's a witch. She's is taken away to school where she meets Luke. She also meets other witches and learns who she can trust and who is not worth it. I love the twists in this book. The world that is being built around the witches is very fun and interesting for me. What else could the author have planed for Iris and Luke in the next book? * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

I didn’t remember that this was only a chapter in the series until I was at the end, and I have to say that the author did a great job of making me excited to find out what happens next. Just as the story was starting to get good, it was over. Of course, as a reader that was annoying because I want to find out what happens, but for the sake of getting me to return for the next bit of the series, it was excellent. For having her entire life thrown into an even larger tailspin, Iris seemed to handle everything well. Instead of being afraid of or horrified by her magic like many protagonists that are initially unaware of their abilities, Iris liked it so much that she became prematurely overconfident. That was a breath of fresh air to read, as was her being taken down a peg and shown that she still has a lot to learn. The fact that Iris is able to acknowledge her mistakes and learn from them also speaks volumes, so I get to see her grow in the little bit of the story that we were given so far. She didn’t seem to be a weeping willow, too fragile for her overall importance, and I appreciated that. On the flip side, she also wasn’t too arrogant to miss the lessons being taught to her and I think Astrid’s machinations, while shady no doubt, helped humble her a bit or she probably would have grown unintentionally arrogant in time. I say unintentionally because she wasn’t arrogant in the manner of looking down on the other students and their abilities, but more so in the way that she felt nothing was too difficult for her to do. Being sabotaged caused her to doubt herself, which helped her to look at the error of her ways and I hope she keeps that sense of humility about her in the next chapter. I figured the minute that Luke was described that he’d be a thorn in Iris’ side in many ways, but I liked that we were able to see underneath his gruff persona and a few of the reasons why he is the way he is. I think it fleshed his character out a bit and made me curious to hear more about his backstory.
Surprisingly for me, I didn’t really find anything that I really disliked about the story. I think the main characters were explored well enough in this introduction that I could get a good sense of who they are, but not enough to where I’m no longer curious about them. I would like to see even more character development and growth in the next installment. There are throwaway characters, who further the plot but don’t detract attention from the main story, and of course there’s the main story itself, which seems to be teeming with potential directions. I’m left with so many questions that I hope will be explored in the next chapter of this series, which I can’t wait to read. The only thing I can suggest is font consistency. I am guessing that the font between conversation and narration are supposed to differ, but they overlap in portions and aren’t consistent in others, so if I had to name a point of improvement that would probably be it. Everything was descriptive enough for me to picture it without being too wordy (except Iris's appearance...I didn't get a good idea of how she looks), I didn’t see any glaring grammatical errors, and the story was well-developed as an introduction to this story and its characters.

I seem to be getting into a few serials now. I really like them. Anyway, Impossible Magic by Abigail Boyd is a paranormal New Adult romance serial. I have just finished the first episode and I really like it.
Like most serials, the book is a quick one. Hey, it’s supposed to be and I like that. Impossible Magic is about a twenty something year old named Iris Archer. On New Year’s Eve she finds out she’s a witch. It doesn’t take long for Iris to be found by other witches and sent to a college for witches. Not much is told about the witch life, but apparently witches don’t grow into their power until around the end of puberty. Hence, the twenty somethings and some older teens in the school. It seems that most of the witches knew about their magic well before Iris which gives a mystery to who she is hereditary wise.
This episode is basically setting up the characters and place, but doesn’t skimp on hinting at more to come. I’m finding myself wondering who was Iris’ parents and why did she not know about being a witch. What’s up with the headmistress? Anyways, the romance factor in it would seem quick, but the first episode is in a month or two time span. There is a steamy part that made me excited for more to come.
So far, I’m not too sure on how I feel about the characters. However, that’s the great thing about serials: the readers have to read each episode before really grasping the characters. All in all, it’s looking exciting and I think I’m really going to like this serial.

In receiving this book in exchange for honest review, I can personally say that I enjoyed reading it. The story entails a young, naive woman (Iris Archer) whose life seems to be going nowhere and future is looking bleak. After a betrayal, emotions are running high, magic awakens, choices are made, and a new outlook in ones future is looking up. Iris encounters a cold and arrogant (Luke) who is not only her warden but also but also teaches on how to resurrect the dead. Sparks fly and a forbidden relationship looms in their wake.
For the first book of its series, the characters are a little weak. They need to have more of a back-story told to build up their roles. I cannot really see where the plot is going; only that magic will play out in some form and a hidden (mystery) hopefully, will be unlocked. The ending also leaves us with a little cliffhanger that will have us (gasp) "don't stop there!" But overall a good read for the first of its series and something to look forward to in the next book.

have followed Abbey Boyd since she had poor Ariel and Henry running all over Hell, MI trying to figure out what was going on. In Impossible Magic, we get to see more grown up characters,and I have to say, I really like it.
Iris Archer discovers she's a witch when faced with a a very stressful situation. She's whisked away to school where she meets Luke, Ice King warden who is assigned to be like her guard. She also meets other witches, and has to figure out who to trust. I love the slow building of character relationships, and twists you might not see coming. I also enjoy the world that is being built around the witches, and how they go about coming into their powers. I'm anxious for Part 2 because I want to see what lies in store for Iris and Luke!

This spicy novel’s main character is Iris, a witch who has just awakened to her witchy abilities. She is whisked off to attend Juniper Hall, a college for witches, located somewhere in the Cascades. She encounters difficulties with classmates as the new girl, meets someone to fall for and has adventures aplenty in what I have since learned is just the first chapter of a book. The chapter left me wanting to read more. I felt it had a bit of the Harry Potter series feel but for a more young adult audience.

I really enjoyed this: witchcraft, cheating boyfriend, backstabbing friends and a budding romance. I can't wait to read the next edition.
