A "Conduct Unbecoming" Sequel

Ensign Aiden Lange is taking a hike and it s not for the pleasure of seeing Okinawa s Hiji Falls. It s in the hope that claiming he took a fall on the rocks will cover up the fact he was beaten up in a gay bar. Not a place a Naval Academy grad wants to get caught if he s serious about his career.

At the end of the trail, a surprise comes with the scenery. A gorgeous young guy in swim trunks.

Connor didn t come up to the falls to find a man, but he s instantly intrigued by the ensign with the bandaged eyebrow. A hike turns into dinner, and before he knows it, he s up to his heart in love with the gentle, infinitely patient Aiden.

It s a small world, though, and an even smaller island. It s only a matter of time before they re caught by a man who s more than just Connor s overprotective father. He s also Aiden s high-ranking boss. Someone with the power to force Aiden to choose Connor, or his naval career.

Contains two adorable guys who don t give a damn that the deck s stacked against them, plenty of sex on the beach, and the hottest application of sunscreen you ve ever read. "

L.A. Witt and her husband have been exiled from Spain and sent to live in Maine because rhymes are fun. She now divides her time between writing, assuring people she is aware that Maine is cold, wondering where to put her next tattoo, and trying to reason with a surly Maine coon. Rumor has it her arch nemesis, Lauren Gallagher, is also somewhere in the wilds of New England, which is why L.A. is also spending a portion of her time training a team of spec ops lobsters.

Authors Ann Gallagher and Lori A. I can't respect these guys...

When Connor's dad simply orders them to stop seeing each other and to threaten Aidan's navy career, they just accept that he can. They still see each other behind his back, but they don't tell him off like someone should. Why doesn't anyone confront Connor's dad about this??

Why on earth do they accept that this guy has this kind of power? The asshole gives no reason why they can't see each other and simply does this because he can. And by going along with it they simply say, hey, you can totally abuse your power like this.

Come on guys, report him or something. You can't let him bully you like that...

After a frightening attack in a gay bar Aiden takes the advice a friend who is also a military policeman about how to explain his facial injuries so that awkward questions won't be asked about him being in a gay bar. He wasn't taking any chances even if the military wasn't asking as many of those questions as they had in the past. Aiden takes his friend's advice to say he fell on rocks while hiking at Haji Falls. To make his story somewhat true, he goes to the falls where he encounters Connor, another American.

From Conner's haircut, Aiden knew that he diffidently wasn't military. It’s just a chance encounter, but one that throws them both into a tailspin with the amount of chemistry flowing between them...but neither one was sure that the other was gay. It was fun to watch these two trying to figure that out and the questions that bringing it up produced. Both of them were adults... Aiden was 24 and, in the Navy, while Connor was 20 and in college getting a degree with 2 years yet to go. Of the two of them, Aiden was the experienced one, while Connor had never, until now, met anyone he wanted to be with, which made their encounter, all the more special. Aiden knew that he had to move slow, and Connor was okay with that.

There was so much mutual satisfaction with them just talking and being with one another. They were happy...then Aiden learns that Connor’s father is one of his commanding officers that he reports to daily. In spite of how much he loves Conner, Aiden finally bends under Conner's father telling him that their relationship could/would end his military career...Aiden believes him and that causes him to make the biggest mistake of his life. I knew what the solution to their problem would be and luckily... so did Aiden...eventually. Be prepared for your heart to twist into knocks while you wait for Aiden to see what that solution was.

It's a well-done story about young love that is so powerful it will take your breath away... but will make you truly believe that many times first love can be forever love. Once again, Greg Boudreaux did a magnificent job giving the characters voice and so many emotions.

I was excited about this one. I literally went from closing book one to opening book two. I couldn't finish my very short review fast enough for Conduct Unbecoming. I wanted more of that. Sadly, I didn't get it.
Trying to place my finger on what was missing wasn't particularly easy. I've concluded it wasn't one big thing, it was lots of little things.

First, new players come out, but they play the same game. Exactly the same game. Possibly down to the same dialogue at times. Second, though they were hot together, I wasn't hot for them. Connor can't even buy a beer in the states. I don't mind watching younger men fall in love, but the erotic level was still pretty damn high and it wasn't the same for me. Third, the emotional connection was weaker. Honestly, everything seemed diluted.

A close call at the bar leaves Aiden rattled and shaken. Following the advise of MA-I Randall, he goes for a hike to provide an alibi and an excuse for his busted up face. Fresh wounds and raw nerves can't stop his attraction to a stranger at the falls. Instant spark. Conner is young, gorgeous, and his for the taking. Virgin alert. Their romance was tender, rapid, and off-limits.

I was surprised with the time line. I had automatically assumed it would pick up where Shane and Eric left off. Nope, it ran parallel to their story.

Truthfully, I'd hope for more Shane and Eric. Shane peeks in a bit, but Eric is elusive. The sweet morsel of a cameo in the epilogue is amazing. But alas, it's still a morsel.
The main secondary character in book one Marie, Eric's daughter, kicked ass. This time we have General Bradshaw heading up second string, and well, he didn't kick the same ass. I didn't really like him.

My feet were still planted firmed in Japan. I had seen the beauty of the island, tasted the food, and felt the salty breeze. This time around we have one gorgeous hike in the beginning and a pizza. Okay okay, it was more than that. But that's what it felt like. Most likely due to the length, for it was nearly half the length as the first, but details were trimmed and thinned significantly. If I hadn't immediately followed it's predecessor, I would have lost those tangible details.

A couple of other moments left me frowning and after all the smiling I did in book one I was....disappointed.

What can I say?.....It was good, but it wasn't great. Which is a first for me when it comes to Witt.

Re-read of "Conduct Unbecoming" did nothing good for my enjoyment of this.

Because all the parts that are not concerning the love story this is a carbon copy of the first part.
The same sights, the same activities, the same food, the same restaurants, snorkeling, sex on the beach, hiking, castles etc.

I really got after the firsts part that the author knows a lot about Okiniawa. Now I have the impression, that she didn't know enough to fill two books.

Even the comments of characters are more or less identical (how Americans don't go out of their bases, how Okinawa is the size of a potato chip crumb etc etc.). Even the plot twist after two thirds is the same.

But my biggest problem: The rest of the book was not good. Simply not good. We have two very young guys who instantly fall for each other, because they are both gorgeous, gay and horny.

The most unoriginal and boring "love" story unfolds, where the Dad of guy 1 forbids guy 2 to tab that. Unfortunately Dad is guy 2's bosses bosses boss. And so guy 1 (who is non-descript except for his virginity - a big pet peeve of mine...) and guy 2 date secretely.

Because guy 2 really isn't so invested in his career - why not risk everything for a guy you saw twice and is really really hot??? Right...insert plot twist and teenage angst.

The writing is sometimes strangely clumsy - e.g. I think guy 2's awkward and painful first time anal sex gets mentioned like 5 times. And the sappy sappy ending was just aweful.

So this was nearly a DNF for me, because I was so not interested to learn how this plays out. I was not invested in the main characters, they were simply to non-descript. I ambled through with some skimming. I am officially disappointed.

While the first book of this series read something like a love letter to Okinawa, this one was much more balanced between the setting, the military job and the relationships. I loved it's gay An Officer & A Gentleman feel...and while I preferred the MC's age bracket in the first one (being older & more mature) there was a sweet, sexy, romantic and hopeful vibe to Aiden & Connor's story that just won me over completely.

3.5 stars I enjoyed this, but not as much as I enjoyed the first book, Conduct Unbecoming. Maybe I should have waited a little between the two books, because I noticed a lot of similarities in the beats of the two stories. The romance felt more rushed in this too. Still worth readingn but I recommend not reading them back to back. Greg Boudreaux's narration was excellent as always.

Audiobook review

We met Aiden briefly in Conduct Unbecoming, when he’d been roughed up by a hook-up gone wrong. At the suggestion from the cop that took his statement Aiden hiked up to the Hiji Falls to post some pictures and use it as an excuse for the bruises come Monday, after all, the hills up there are very steep and telling everyone that he’d taken a tumble was far preferable than the truth. On this hike he met Connor, a mesmerizing young man. They had an instant attraction to each other and they started dating. Their happiness didn’t last long as they were discovered by Conner's dad - the general, one of Conner’s superiors. The general forbids their romance and orders them apart, unless Aiden wants to be transferred off the island. However Aiden and Conner can’t and won’t stay apart, so instead they started to sneak around.

Again, there is a strong presence of the military in this book. Not so much the daily duties and obligations, but more in the sense of restrictions and how it impacted the lives on those stationed at Okinawa. Who they could interact with, or rather not interact with. I don’t only mean in a romantic sense, but also genuine friendships that are apparently not allowed outside one’s own rank. As for Connor and Aiden, I really don’t see why it was such a big deal as it was, I mean Conner wasn’t the one in the military, rather his dad was. I know that we don’t live in a perfect world, and many aren’t free to love whomever they want, it just hits me sometimes, the unfairness of it all.

Anyway, Aiden and Conner had to sneak around. Hide from everyone. They were caught by Conner’s father, so there was some back and forth – should we or shouldn’t we, is it really worth it and so on. Some of that I could get behind, it fit, but after a while it got a bit repetitive and where I just wanted to tell them to make up their minds already and stick with it, preferably talking it out and deciding together would also be a good idea. Then there was the ending that was a bit abrupt, in a way. I mean after all this back and forth, everyone makes a 180 and suddenly everything is alright and will work out.

In the review for the previous book I said that I was surprised at Greg Boudreaux’s narration, that the voices weren’t distinct. In this book I didn’t have that problem, it was easy to follow along and the voices were easy to separate. Boudreaux is also a master of adding feelings to his narration, making you feel what the characters feel and adding that extra level of connection between the listener and the story unfolding.

A copy of this book was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review

3,5 Sterne mit Tendenz zu vier, deshalb aufgerundet.

Darum geht's:

A review by The Blogger Girls.

What a solid, sweet romance this story was! Just as much so as the first installment, Conduct Unbecoming, which was Shane and Eric’s story. They make appearances here, but this book is about Aidan and Conner.

Aidan is Ensign Lange, low man on the totem pole and new to the base. He meets Conner while out hiking one of the island’s many trails, and they really hit it off. There is immediate attraction, but they start out just really enjoying each other’s company. Not long after they take things a bit further, it is revealed that Conner is the son of Aidan’s superior.

Going against the Major’s threats to each of them, they continue meeting up to enjoy each other and see where things go. This was my favorite part of the story. Conner is a virgin, has never dated or had any relationships. So, they take things very slowly, just allowing themselves to explore each other at a comfortable pace. When they finally go all the way (not until around 60% into the story), Aidan goes above and beyond to make the experience amazing and memorable. Everything from their kisses to the full-blown sex is hot stuff.

Much of this story is about their exploration and growing love, the rest is about them trying to be discreet and fly under the Major’s radar. Both of these got a little tiny bit tiresome, but that is my only complaint with this story. The military titles and descriptions that were a little too much in the previous book were not present, and thus, not issue for me this time around.

The writing is well done and everything I’ve come to expect from Ms. Witt. I highly recommend either or both of these stories for those looking for a great romantic steamy read. Each can easily be read on their own, but they definitely go well together.

Wow, a two star from me for an LA Witt book? Say it ain't so! Witt has long been one of my very favorite authors, but this is a very rare miss for me.

It all just felt so repetitive, in two ways. The first, it was VERY similar to the first book in the series. Two guys, hiding that they are seeing each other, at least one's career at risk. Lots of touring the island of Okinawa, the castles, the scenery, the beaches. And in the second way, it seemed like the guys repeated a lot of the same conversations. Are you ok, are you sure, my first time was painful, all that got repeated more than once.

And when you get right down to it, I just didn't get how Aiden could put his career at risk over a guy he'd seen TWICE. They meet once, sight see a bit, spend a day together, a tiny bit of sexy times happen, and then they get caught. I could see if they'd spent weeks getting to know each other, but in the beginning, it just didn't seem worth it, to me. Yes, they were sweet, and yes, some of the sex was hot, but I juts wasn't feeling it this time.

After not falling in love with book one in this series, either, I'm thinking that this series is just not for me. If there's another in this series, I might have to give it a pass, unless it takes place in a whole different place.

Love this one, too, though not quite as much as I liked the first in the series. Connor and Aiden are adorable and sweet, and while they lack the maturity and ferocity of Eric and Shane, their tale is no less moving.

Just as good as book one

This one is a little bit sweeter than book one given the age of the two MCs but it still works perfectly and I absolutely believed in birth their romance and in their relationship lasting a lifetime.

I love LA's military set stories, she gives just enough jargon and explanation of the minutiae without turning into a dry information exchange.

In these two characters she gives us the opposite of book one. Aiden is at the start of his Navy career and fraternising with the son of a senior officer could screw him over. But Connor is worth risking the General's wrath and their relationship is so sweetly developed.

I loved that the General wasn't a cartoon Gillian, he wasn't a villain at all, just a concerned dad and a worried commanding officer.

It was also great to catch up with Shane and Eric as these books overlapped timeline wise but with a bigger jump to the epilogue for this one.

The book covers have also been a big hit, gorgeous hints at what lies within.

This is a great romance that deals nicely with an age difference between the heroes, the conflicts of careers, and taking a chance on first love.

I love all the time that Connor and Aiden spend together. I love dating in a book but especially a romance with two heroes.

A well paced and real sexy sweet romance.

“Doesn’t seem like you let anything stop you from living dangerously.”
“Okay, no, I don’t.”
— Aiden Lange & Conner Bradshaw

As odd as if may seem to write, General Misconduct feels much softer than Conduct Unbecoming. Both are good books, they are clearly connected, contain military regulations a the restrictions places on soldiers and their families but they will suit different readers. Aiden and Conner are almost the exact opposite of Shane and Eric. Both in character and in the plot. CU goes hot and heavy fast starts with a steamy one night stand and moves on from that. GM is a slower burn, they still meet in the first chapter but sex is barely on the radar (at least at first) its more romance than that. It's a decent play on age stereotypes to a degree. I am sorry for comparing them so blatantly in the review but reading so close together and with so much crossover in the stories it is a choice I'm making.

Aiden and Conner are so sweet. Aiden is a young Ensign, the command antiterrorism officer for Okinawa and the new guy to the island. While we have little to do with anyone in his life I have total respect for his family, his father figured he was gay before Aiden did. He made sure Aiden was trained in self-defence. Aiden is young, in control and ambitious. His being attacked by Glenn (which blessed by we don't have to see) shakes him. His love interest is Conner. Conner is something. A twentyish, gay, army brat whose forbidden from dating men under his father's command (ie anyone on the island), he's a bit lonely and likes to live dangerously. Conner has had a bit of life his b***h of a mother tried to send him to conversion therapy after finding out her was gay (I have no tolerance for conversion therapy, it has no place in the world).  His ban on dating doesn't stop him trying to date but his fathers' name scares men off. Conner and Aiden meet at the top of Hiji Falls and hit it off right away, most of their story is them sneaking around, beaches have huge symbolism for them. The intimacy between the characters builds well, slowly which suits their characters and traits but it was a little off-putting when various things happened. I did at one point find myself asking is gas-lighting someone for their own good okay?

As much as Conduct Unbecoming as series is a romantic series it is a series about familial relationships. The closest thing this General Misconduct has to a villain is Connor's father, General Bradshaw. In all fairness, he's a bit of a prick. He's the right sort of villain for this series, he's not supposed to be likeable but when you stop and think you can see why he is doing what he is. At least to a degree. I'm not saying he's not risking his relationship with his son but he definitely feels like he's putting his career first. It's not a great look.

Trust Eric and Shane to get married during the damned monsoon. — Aiden Lange

Alright some things I need to say. I read Conduct Unbecoming the day before I read General Misconduct, that means I picked up some slight issues in this book that you wouldn't if you weren't reading them that close together. There are some slight continuity errors. As expected GM starts at about the 50% mark of CU with the conversation between Eric and Aiden in the emergency room. But we do get to see a conversation between Shane and Aiden that wasn't in CU, one that aligns Shane as an ally and part protector for Aiden but he knows Aiden's secrets. The problem is that according to the timeline of CU he shouldn't, it's before he has the relevant conversation with Eric. (Oh gosh in that conversation Shane sounds like Eric though, so much compassion and care). Is it a small thing? Yes, but it irked me. There was a timeline issue overall too maybe but both timelines are a little bit fuzzy. The whole of GM takes place before the end of CU as far as I can tell. Though the ending includes both couples.

All up can see this being unmemorable. I like the characters but it has a strange sort of contrast to its predecessor. It is a wonderful companion to Conduct Unbecoming using the characters well, not just as cameos and completing both stories satisfactorily.

In the name of rank and strategy, I’d given up the love of my life.
It was that fucking simple.
— Aiden Lange

My stupid context notes for this book

• I had to look up Diego Garcia. Jesus... it is a tiny atoll in the Indian Ocean not far south of Mauritius (on the global scale at least). It's a British Territory but hosts both US and UK military bases. Look threatening to post someone there is a choice threat.
• General misconduct is not a military charge as far as I can find. But damn if what General Bradshaw doesn't feel like Conduct Unbecoming a Gentleman, or at least as Shane so rightly puts it an abuse of power.
• Shi Shi dogs are also known as Shisa. They are (massive shock to no one) part of Okinawan mythology, but originated and are still prevalent in China. Shisa are always in pairs, with the left shisa traditionally having a closed mouth, the right one an open mouth. The open mouth shisa traditionally wards off evil spirits, and the closed mouth shisa keeps good spirits in.

I have to say that L.A. Witt really is my go-to for military romances. I love the way she brings all the little things to life. And, well, these relationships are really fun to read about. I haven't read the first book in this series yet, but I didn't have any problem reading this one w/o it. There were a few moments w/ characters from the first book, but they didn't feature too heavily in this one.

I liked how easy it was to read this. There wasn't as much angst over the the whole "dating your commander's son" thing as I thought there would be, and i like how this story between these guys played out. I had a lot of fun reading this, and I really should go back and read the first one at some point.

This was a very sweet story. Some of the events in this book take place in parallel with Conduct Unbecoming, beginning with Aiden's visit to the emergency room after his altercation with a rather bad mannered marine. Aiden and Connor are very much adorable together. They both seem so young, though. Especially Connor. Not immature, just young. I loved watching their story unfold. Though I think I liked the first book better, I do think this was an excellent follow up and a very enjoyable read.

This was sweet and simple. The little bit of angst in this story is slightly manufactured give the story a little tension, but over all it was a lovely little story. I do enjoy L.A. Witt's writing style. There wasn't a lot to this story other than two guys meeting and falling in love, but hey it was happy.

Aiden and Connor were cute together. I liked how innocent and young their relationship felt. Neither of them are very old, both still in their early twenties and I appreciated that this story didn't strive to make them feel older. Aiden's military background gave him a little more gravitas as an adult but he was still young and in love.

I do enjoy the background of Okinawa in these stories. It's a nice little element in this story.

Recensione di Pri – Cattiva Condotta di L.A.

'General Misconduct' is book two in L.A. Witt's series 'Conduct Unbecoming'. I really loved the first book which did an amazing job of introducing me to Okinawa and the military men who live there. Eric and Shane's story was great and I was very pleasantly surprised to see the author take the ending to a place I wasn't expecting. The author had introduced both Aiden and Connor in the previous book so I was looking forward to their story.

Aiden is a recent graduate of the academy and an ensign in the Navy. His job as the command antiterrorism officer deals with paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork, and he regularly deals with colonels, generals, and admirals. Of course, even with the new policies within the military, Aiden isn't jumping at announcing he's gay. Shane and Eric know his secret and he knows theirs, but only because Eric was the military cop called to the base ER when Aiden got into a fight outside a gay club. Needless to say, these guys all want their secrets kept. Meeting Connor might just turn out to be the best thing that's happened to Aiden in a long time. Or, not.

Connor is a military brat. But, on this base, he's not just any military guy’s kid. Oh, no. He's the general's son. Who also happens to be Aiden's boss. Could it get any worse? Well, yes, actually, it does. The general follows Connor when he meets Aiden at his apartment and catches them together. Now, Connor is twenty, so that isn't an issue, but there are a whole lot of other problems at hand. Dear old Dad makes it very plain, as in he orders Aiden to stay away from his son, and then he tells Connor that as long as he's living under his roof as his dependent, Connor is forbidden from dating anyone on base. Since Connor is going to college using his dad's GI Bill and that price is to live at home, what is Connor to do? Even worse, the general threatens Aiden's career by letting him know that if he doesn't stay away from his son, he'll have Aiden transferred to some god-awful location and his career will end up in the toilet.

This was a really good addition to the series. It was lovely watching Aiden and Connor really get to know each other, without sex as a motive, while still trying to be discreet and hide it from the general. I was impressed at the relationship these two young men developed and was rooting for them the whole way. They ran into some snags which I expected, but overall I loved their happy ending and my glimpse at Shane and Eric's very happy ending. Good job, Lori!

✔ Letto!
Ma no  Aiden.
Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
